മദര്‍ തെരേസ, കാരുണ്യത്തിന്റെ തിരുവസ്ത്രം

കെ.കെ.അബ്ദുസ്സലാം, 26 august 2020, 08:09 am ist, യൂഗോസ്ലാവിയന്‍ മിഷനറി സംഘത്തിനൊപ്പം 1924 ല്‍ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ബംഗാളില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ച ഫാദര്‍ ജാംബ്രന്റെ അനുഭവസാക്ഷ്യ വിവരണം തെരേസയുടെ ഉള്ളുലച്ചു. ഇല്ലായ്മയുടെ ഇരുള്‍ കയത്തില്‍ തീരമണയാതെ കേഴുന്ന പരസഹസ്രങ്ങളുടെ ജീവിതം നിലവിളിയായി തനിക്കു ചുറ്റും മുഴങ്ങുന്നതായി അവര്‍ക്കു തോന്നി..

1910 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 26: ഒരു മാലാഖയുടെ പിറന്നാളാണ്. സാമ്രാജ്യങ്ങളും കോളണികളുമായി, സുല്‍ത്താന്മാരും ചക്രവര്‍ത്തിമാരും സ്വയം അവരോധിത ഖലീഫമാരും ഭൂമിയെ പങ്കിട്ടെടുത്തിരുന്ന കാലത്തായിരുന്നു ആ വിശുദ്ധ ജനനം.

നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളോളം ഓട്ടോമന്‍ ഖലീഫയുടെ ഭരണത്തിന്‍ കീഴിലായിരുന്ന ബഹുമത രാജ്യമായ അല്‍ബേനിയയിലെ, സ്‌കോപ്‌ജെ എന്ന ചെറുപട്ടണത്തില്‍, നിര്‍മ്മാണ പ്രവൃത്തികളുടെ കരാറുകാരന്‍ നിക്കോളാസ് ബൊജെക്‌സിയുടെയും വെനീസുകാരി ഡ്രാഫിലെ ബെര്‍ണായിയുടെയും മൂന്നാമത്തെ കുഞ്ഞായിട്ടായിരുന്നു തിരുപ്പിറവി. ആ കുഞ്ഞുമാലാഖയെ മാതാപിതാക്കള്‍ 'മേരി തെരേസ ബോജെക്‌സി' എന്നു പേര്‍ വിളിച്ചു; ലോകം പിന്നീട് മദര്‍ തെരേസ എന്നും.

സാമാന്യം ധനികരായിരുന്നു ബോജെക്‌സി കുടുംബം. ഒരു ചേട്ടനും ചേച്ചിയും തെരേസക്ക് കൂടപ്പിറപ്പുകള്‍. മക്കളുടെ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തില്‍ ഏറെ ശ്രദ്ധയുള്ളവരായിരുന്നു അച്ഛനും അമ്മയും. തെരേസ ചെറുപ്പം മുതല്‍ മതവിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തില്‍ താല്‍പര്യം കാണിച്ചപ്പോള്‍ അതു നല്‍കുന്നതില്‍ സ്‌നേഹ നിധിയായ അമ്മ പ്രത്യേകം ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു. ഉദാരമതിയും തികഞ്ഞ മതവിശ്വാസിയും ദൈവഭക്തയും ദാനശീലയുമായ ഡ്രാഫിലെ ബെര്‍ണായി, കൊച്ചു തെരേസയ്ക്ക് ഒരു മാതൃകാമാതാവായി. തന്നെ പ്രാപ്തയായൊരു ജീവകാരുണ്യ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകയാക്കിയെടുക്കുന്നതില്‍ അമ്മയുടെ ദീന ദയാലുത്വവും ഉപദേശങ്ങളും ഏറെ സ്വാധീനിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടെന്നവര്‍ പറയാറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.

ഫാദര്‍ സെലസ്‌തേ വാന്‍എക്‌സം, മദര്‍ തെരേസയുടെ മത വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിന്ന് മേല്‍നോട്ടം വഹിച്ച പുരോഹിതന്റെ പേരാണ്. സമാധാനത്തിന്റെയും കാരുണ്യത്തിന്റെയും വെള്ളരിപ്രാവായ കൊച്ചു തെരേസയുടെ ഏറെയൊന്നും അറിയപ്പെടാത്ത ബാല്യ-കൗമാര ജീവിതം അനാവൃതമാകുന്നത് 1979ല്‍ നോബല്‍ സമ്മാന സ്വീകാര വേദിയിലാണ്. മദര്‍ തെരേസയുടെ ജ്യേഷ്ഠ സഹോദരന്‍ ലാസര്‍ ആ പുണ്യജീവിതത്തിന്റെ ബാല്യകാല ചിത്രങ്ങള്‍ അന്നാണ് ലോകത്തിന് മുന്നില്‍ വെളിപ്പെടുത്തിയത്.

ഭക്ഷണപദാര്‍ത്ഥങ്ങളെന്നല്ല, മറ്റേത് ഉപയോഗവസ്തുക്കളും പാഴാക്കുന്നത് മദറിന് ഇഷ്ടമായിരുന്നില്ല. കുഞ്ഞുകുട്ടിയായിരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ തന്നെ ഈ ശീലം തന്നില്‍ ഊട്ടിയത് അമ്മയാണെന്ന് അവര്‍ ഓര്‍മിക്കാറുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. അച്ഛന്‍ നിക്കോളാസ് ബോജെക്‌സി കാലത്തിനൊപ്പം യാത്രയാവുമ്പോള്‍, കൊച്ചു മേരി തെരേസയ്ക്ക് ഏഴുവയസ്സു മാത്രമേ പ്രായമായിരുന്നുള്ളൂ. അച്ഛന്റെ ബിസിനസ്സ് പങ്കാളി കള്ളക്കളികളിലൂടെ ബിസിനസ്സ് സ്വന്തമാക്കിയപ്പോള്‍, ധനികനായ അച്ഛന്റെ മക്കള്‍ ദാരിദ്ര്യത്തിന്റെ വേദനയും ഭയാനകതയുമറിഞ്ഞു. ദുര്‍വിധിയുടെ ഭീകരമുഖത്ത് പതറാതെ അമ്മ ഡ്രാഫിലെ ബെര്‍ണായി, മക്കളുടെ ഭാവി കരുപ്പിടിപ്പിക്കാനുള്ള ചുമതല സ്വയമേറ്റു. തന്റെ ജീവിത പങ്കാളിയുടെ പാതയില്‍ തന്നെ ചെറിയൊരു ബിസിനസ്സുമായി അവര്‍ അതിജീവനത്തിന് വഴി കണ്ടെത്തി. മക്കള്‍ക്ക് മുന്തിയ വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം നല്‍കി. ആശങ്കയുടെ ഈ ഘട്ടത്തിലാണ് മേരി തെരേസ ചര്‍ച്ചുമായി കൂടുതലടുക്കുന്നത്. പള്ളിയിലെ പുസ്തകശാല അവരുടെ ഏറ്റവും പ്രിയപ്പെട്ട ഇടമായി.

കൗമാരത്തിലേക്ക് ചുവടുവെയ്ക്കും മുന്നേ കന്യാസ്ത്രീയാകണമെന്ന് ബാലികാ മനസ്സില്‍ തളിരിട്ട മോഹം അമ്മയോട് പ്രകടിപ്പിച്ചെങ്കിലും കൊച്ചു കുട്ടിയുടെ വിഭ്രമങ്ങളായി മാത്രമേ അമ്മ ആ താല്‍പര്യത്തെ പരിഗണിച്ചുള്ളൂ. നിഷേധിക്കപ്പെട്ട ആഗ്രഹം പക്ഷെ, കൂടുതല്‍ കരുത്തോടെ മനസ്സില്‍ വളര്‍ന്നു. ചര്‍ച്ചുമായുള്ള ബന്ധം കൂടുതല്‍ ദൃഢമായി. സ്‌കൂള്‍ സമയം കഴിഞ്ഞുള്ള മുഴുവന്‍ നേരവും തെരേസ പള്ളിയുമായി ബന്ധപ്പെട്ടു പ്രവൃത്തിച്ചു; ഇത് അമ്മയ്ക്കും താല്‍പര്യമായിരുന്നു.

1925, തെരേസയ്ക്ക് അന്ന് 15 വയസ്സ്. ആ വര്‍ഷം ചര്‍ച്ചില്‍ പാസ്റ്ററായി വന്ന ഫാദര്‍ ജാംബ്രന്‍ കോവിക് സ്ഥാപിച്ച 'സോളിഡാരിറ്റി സൊസൈറ്റി' ശാഖയുടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം തെരേസയെ ആകര്‍ഷിച്ചു. സൊസൈറ്റിയുടെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളില്‍ അവരും ഭാഗവാക്കായി. തെരേസയുടെ പിന്നീടുള്ള ജീവിതവഴിയില്‍ സോളിഡാരിറ്റി നിര്‍ണായക സ്വാധീനം ചെലുത്തി. മിഷനറി പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളെയും ത്യാഗസമ്പന്നമായ കന്യാസ്ത്രീ ജീവിതത്തെയും കുറിച്ച് ഈ സൊസൈറ്റിയിലൂടെയാണ് അവര്‍ കൂടതല്‍ അടുത്തറിയുന്നത്.

യൂഗോസ്ലാവിയന്‍ മിഷനറി സംഘത്തിനൊപ്പം 1924 ല്‍ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ ബംഗാളില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ച ഫാദര്‍ ജാംബ്രന്റെ അനുഭവസാക്ഷ്യ വിവരണം തെരേസയുടെ ഉള്ളുലച്ചു. ഇല്ലായ്മയുടെ ഇരുള്‍ കയത്തില്‍ തീരമണയാതെ കേഴുന്ന പരസഹസ്രങ്ങളുടെ ജീവിതം നിലവിളിയായി തനിക്കു ചുറ്റും മുഴങ്ങുന്നതായി അവര്‍ക്കു തോന്നി. അനാഥരും അഗതികളുമായ ബംഗാളി ബാല്യങ്ങളുടെ കഥ കേട്ട് അവരുടെ നെഞ്ചില്‍ ഉറവയെടുത്ത കാരുണ്യത്തിന്റെ മഹാപ്രവാഹം കണ്ണീരായി പുറത്തേക്ക് ചാലിട്ടു. ബംഗാളില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുന്ന ഐറിഷ് മിഷനറി സംഘത്തിലെ കന്യാസ്ത്രീകള്‍ പ്രഥമവും പ്രധാനവുമായ പരിഗണന നല്‍കുന്നത് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിന്നാണെന്നു കൂടി അറിഞ്ഞതോടെ തെരേസ കൂടുതല്‍ പ്രചോദിതയായി.

1928, തെരേസയ്ക്ക് പ്രായം 18. ശബളിമയാര്‍ന്ന സ്വപ്നങ്ങള്‍ പൂക്കുന്ന തീക്ഷ്ണ കൗമാരത്തിന്റെ വസന്തകാലം. കൗമാര കുതൂഹുലങ്ങളുടെ വര്‍ണക്കാഴ്ചകള്‍ക്കും അപ്പുറത്തേക്കായിരുന്നു തെരേസയുടെ മനസ്സ് സഞ്ചരിച്ചത്. ആത്മീയതയില്‍ നിന്നുയിരുകൊണ്ട കരുണയായിരുന്നല്ലോ ആ കൗമാരക്കാരിയെ നയിച്ചതും പ്രലോഭിപ്പിച്ചതും. അന്നൊരു രാവില്‍, 'വീടുവിട്ടു പോവുക, കന്യാസ്ത്രീ ജീവിതത്തിലേക്ക്,' എന്ന അശരീരി കേട്ടതായി അവര്‍ പറയുന്നു. കാലത്തു തന്നെ ഫാദര്‍ ജംബ്രാനെ ചെന്നുകണ്ടു താന്‍ കേട്ട അശരീരിയെക്കുറിച്ചു പറഞ്ഞു. 'തന്റെ തുടര്‍ ജീവിതം ദൈവ വഴിയിലാവണം. എന്നെ പോകാനനുവദിക്കണം' കൗമാരക്കാരി തെരേസ അമ്മയോടഭ്യര്‍ത്ഥിച്ചു. ഏറെ ആനന്ദദായകമായിരുന്നു അമ്മയുടെ മറുപടി, 'ദൈവത്തിന്റെ കരങ്ങളില്‍ കരം കോര്‍ത്ത് നീ മുന്നോട്ടു പോവുക, ദൈവത്തോടൊപ്പം.' ലോക ചരിത്രത്തില്‍ ഒരു പുതിയ അധ്യായമാണ് തന്റെ ഈ വാക്കുകളിലൂടെ വിരചിതമാവുന്നതെന്ന് ആ അമ്മ അപ്പോള്‍ നിനച്ചിട്ടുണ്ടായിരിക്കില്ല.

ആശയ പ്രകടനത്തിനും ശാസ്ത്രീയ കാര്യങ്ങളെ പ്രതിപാദിക്കാനു മുള്ള എല്ലാ ഗുണവിശേഷങ്ങളുമുള്ള നാം എത്ര ഭാഷകൾ കൈവശ മാക്കിയാലും മാതൃഭാഷയിലൂടെ മാത്രമേ സ്വന്തം ഹൃദയവികാരങ്ങൾ ശക്തമായും വ്യക്തമായും മറ്റുള്ളവരെ ധരിപ്പിക്കാൻ കഴിയൂ. വിശ്വസാഹിത്യങ്ങളും ശാസ്ത്രീയ കാര്യങ്ങളും നമ്മിൽ വേരുറക്കുന്നത് മാതൃഭാഷയിലൂടെയാണ്. അതുകൊണ്ടാണ് “ഏതൊരു വേദവുമേതൊരു ശാസ്ത്രവുമേതൊരു കാവ്യവുമേതൊരാൾക്കും ഹൃത്തിൽ പതിയേണമെങ്കിൽ സ്വഭാഷതൻ വക്തത്തിൽ നിന്നു താൻ കേൾക്ക വേണം” എന്ന് മഹാകവി വള്ളത്തോൾ പാടിയത്.

വീടും നാടും അന്യമായി കാണുന്ന ഇളം തലമുറയുടെ മാതൃഭാഷാ വൈമുഖ്യം നാം ശ്രദ്ധിക്കാതിരുന്നിട്ട് കാര്യമില്ല. ” ജനിക്കും മുമ്പൻ മകനിംഗ്ലീഷ് പഠിക്കണമതിനാൽ ഭാര്യതൻ പേറങ്ങിഴുണ്ടിൽ തന്നെയാക്കിനേൻ എന്ന കുഞ്ഞുണ്ണി മാഷിന്റെ പരിഹാസം കേരളീയരുടെ പൊങ്ങച്ച ത്തെയും മിഥ്യബോധത്തെയുമാണ് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നത്. തന്നോടു തന്നെയുള്ള ഈ യുദ്ധം മലയാളികളുടെ ശാപമാണ്. മാതൃ ഭാഷാവ ബോധം ജനകീയതയുടെ സിരാ രക്തം ആണെന്ന കാര്യം ഇനിയും മറന്നാൽ നമ്മുടെ ഭാവി പുകയാൽ മൂടിപ്പോകും എന്നതിൽ സംശയം വേണ്ട. ഈ അവസരത്തിൽ “എന്നുടെ ഭാഷ താനെൻ തറവാട്ടമ്മ അന്യയാം ഭാഷ വിരുന്നുകാരി” എന്ന കവി വാക്യം മറക്കാതിരിക്കുക.
