This time, in the winters, our small family planned for a holiday in the hills of Darjeeling. My little sister and I study in grades 8 and 4, respectively, my father is a deputy manager in his reputed company, and my mother is a working lady and also a housewife. We started our journey on the 1st of December, 2019. On the way, we played a variety of games. The view over the hills was quite pleasant to watch. When we were on the top of the summits, we looked down at our town, which seemed like a toy town; how small that was from the top! 

We clicked pretty snaps of the places, clicked pictures of us, of the local residents there, after which we went to a famous restaurant to eat our afternoon meal. We had the most delightful dumplings and noodles, which were cooked and served to us when still on steam. 

As dusk dawned on us, the jungles over the hills seemed to tell us another story of spirits and supernaturals. My sister and I were quite fantasized about this view. We preferred to keep our eyes shut till we reached our destination. It was half-past 8 when we reached the hotel where we would spend the night. The hotel staff was kind people who welcomed us with great warmth. We freshened up and went downstairs to watch their cultural program. The tribes danced to the music of one of their traditional songs, which was quite amazing for us to watch. After this, dinner was served. The dinner was quite rich and they served us in a sophisticated manner. After the tiring day, we decided to call it off and went to sleep.

The next day, we went hiking in the mountains. When we reached the peak of the mountains, it was a very delightful view. We decided to camp for the rest of the day there in the hills. The scenario and being on the lap of nature were quite peaceful and serene.   

After the trip, we came down to our town and normalized our lives. 

This trip had ushered a sense of great peace and calmness in my mind, which was to be instilled. The memories of the trip were to remain fresh in my mind like the fresh droplets on the leaves.

I also went to the supermarket near my old house. I loved seeing all the different foods. I was really happy to find my favourite cheese and chocolate biscuits but they were a bit more expensive than I remember!

We did some touristy things too. We walked up beautiful Petrin Hill and around the castle. The views of the city are amazing up there. We walked across the historic Charles Bridge. My friend's flat is very near the TV Tower so we saw the famous baby statues climbing up it. Those things haven't changed, of course.

I remember last year when I went with friend to the beach in summer. My Lastsummer holidays was 2days and 3 nights trip to Ngwe Saung Beach in Myanamr . Ngwe Saung, is a beach resort located 48 km west of Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. In 2014, the town of Ngwesaung had 10,732 people.The beach is 5hours drive with no traffic away from the principal city of Yangon. Ngwe Saung is well know for An unspoilt 15 kilometres stretch of silvery sand and modern amenities have made Ngwe Saung a popular destination for less budget conscious tourists from Lower Myanmar. I booked for our stay at a hotel near the beach, name was "Grand Paradise Hotel ". My friend and i prepared everything we needed on our trip as light food and soft drinks to have on the way to the hotel. And also we prepared necessary clothing for the sea, sun cream and some essential medicines. After 5hours of driving we arrived the hotel at 12PM afternoon and went to our rooms to rest change clothes and take all what we need to go to the beach. This Hotel is near the beach,all services was good and room are cleaned, wide and nice. We put our bags on the table and went to swim in the sea and then went out for lunch that my friend ordered from a fish restaurant . The Crab ,Lobster and fish was fresh and tasty and we enjoyed our meal very much. After lunch we sat under the canopy enjoying the sea view, refreshing breaths ,listening to music and playing fun games. OH really nice Ngwe Saung beach Myanamr.

My last holiday was far away in time in different reasons. We were at black sea coast on September so there where not so much other people. We was drinking a wine that was cheap there and going some excursions

My last holiday. Last summer, in particular on the last weekend of June, I decided to visit Granada, an amazing city in Spain. I visited Granada for the second time with my family, my wife, and two daughters. I was so happy because I visited Granada sights, especially Alhambra Palace, and Civilization Museum. We arrived at the hotel by bus at 11 a.m. The hotel was wonderful and clean, and the food they offer was delicious. My family really liked the traditional typical dishes of Granada, in particular the dish named Baella. During the holiday, I met some of my Spanish colleagues and they invited us to visit their house which is located in a nice village in the city suburb. Really, I liked this place for the large landscape, calmness, and the kind people who live in. On the fifth day of our holiday, we walked around the city and saw the old city which has been built above the mountain. So, you can see the whole city from above it. Despite the enjoyment that we have got, the negative thing about that holiday was that we spent so much money and also many friends need to buy some things from there, so I bought some souvenirs and I hope that I can keep one for myself to remind of that divine place. By and large, this holiday was great and unforgettable thanks to my Spanish friend, Gaspar, who provided me with a Guidebook which makes my trip easy and coy.

My last holiday was four days on São Miguel dos Milagres with my family. We stay on the beach house of my grandpa. There is a pool, and four rooms in that. There we go to the beach, to some interesting restaurants, to a beach clube and to an ice cream shop. I love that travel and i'd love go back to São Miguel dos Milagres.

On the first weekend in March, we took an amazing trip to Barcelona. We went by train from Atocha station and the journey lasted two and a half hours.

When we arrived at the historic Barcelona Sants station, we took the metro to Plaza de Tetuan, which is where we had the apartment. We left our baggage and went to visit the city centre, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, La Boqueria Market, Paseo de Gracia, etc. On Sunday, we saw the beautiful Sagrada Familia which is my favourite landmark. Later, we went to the incredible Nou Camp stadium to see the Barça game against Valencia. After the game we visited the official store and did some shopping but everything was very expensive. On Monday, before returning to Madrid we went back to the Nou Camp to take a guided tour of the trophy room, changing rooms, benches, and the VIP box.

At the end, we went to the apartment to take the suitcases and so, we took the metro to the Sants station where we boarded the high speed train back to Madrid.

I go to Thailand for a camping holiday, It was fun I go caving on the first day, I see many bets are sleeping on top of the cave.(no time to finish)

Before 5 years, my sister and I went in a Euro trip. It was our first international trip together and we're beyond happy that it went well.

I planned the whole trip and to be honest I was quite nervous and anxious that something might go wrong. We visited 3 countries and 8 cities which were in our bucket list. Every place we visited has its own uniqueness; however, some cities just captivated our hearts, especially Paris, the city of light and love :).

Because we are food lovers, we tried to try as many dishes as we can. Some dishes touch our hearts before getting into our tummies, and croissant is my only example :D. I hope to visit more countries in the future with my sister and to make more memories together.

A place I have visited long before My last holiday was five days. I went with my cousin to Cappadocia in Turkey. We stayed at a cave hotel in Gorme village and it was amazing. We had a beautiful view over the all the caves. We did some touristy things too. In the first days we flown with balloon and we could see Cappadocia city. In the second days we went to the Open Museum so we could go inside the caves and to see how people lives at that time. Last days we walked about thirteen kilometers around the city and we visited the oldest castles in Cappadocia. We choose a different local restaurant every day. The food was delicious and cheap. I would like to go there again because that is a lot of things I want to see, and I recommend other people to go and see the magic city.

My last holiday was a five-day trip to Tbilisi the capital of Georgia. It was my first real holiday for last several years, usually I continue to work in my trips, but in this time I decided to not.

I went to this trip with my wife. We went by train. There was my first visit of Tbilisi but my wife was there a year before. So she knew all interesting places and sightseeings and showed me the city.

As it was my only holiday for the long time I don’t want to have a tight schedule and preferred spend it in chill way. I woke up without alarm had a breakfast slowly and then we decided where to go and what to do today.

We have visited some famous places as monument Mother of Georgia placed at the top of the mountain, some historical churches. We used old funicular to reach the top of another mountain with the amusement park. We walk a lot every day and explore almost every part of the city.

I really love restaurants in Tbilisi. We tried Italian, Japan, French and Georgian cosine. The food in Georgia is cheap and amazing!

It were five amazing days. I felt myself so relaxed and ready for new challenges at my job.

I’m Estranged From My Best Friend but Still Invited to Her Family Holidays. Help!

A reader feels conflicted about attending celebrations as a friend of the family when the woman who was her original connection won’t be there. Should she bow out?

My friend and I have been BFFs for over 40 years — since sixth grade. I spend most holidays with her family. I love being with them! The problem: Our friendship has taken a bad turn, and I’m sure that I’m the reason she’s been skipping family holidays lately. After her divorce, she jumped into internet dating. She seems to relish the trolling and catfishing online. She swears off the apps, then tells me about another terrible experience a month later. Finally, I noted that the apps seem to be an endless, negative cycle in her life. She lashed out at me for not being supportive. So, I told her to drive someone else crazy with her love life. That was two years ago, and we haven’t spoken since. I suggested to her family they tell her I won’t be coming to holidays anymore, so they can all be together again. But her family wants me there. Thoughts?

It’s pretty natural to see ourselves at the center of conflicts — even when we’re only ancillary players. (We experience the world through our own eyes, after all.) So, while I agree that your estrangement from your friend is a serious problem, it may not be her only one. If it were, you probably would have been disinvited from her family holidays by now.

I suspect your friend is having a rough time generally — not just with you. Her divorce seems to have thrown her for a loop. (Also pretty natural.) And though your assessment of her dating life may have been accurate, telling her you didn’t want to hear about it anymore — in effect, that she should solve her problems on her own — was not a super supportive move from a BFF, even though her reporting was probably really frustrating.

I would reach out to her again. Tell her you love her and miss her and want to help her if you can. This doesn’t mean signing up for litanies about her love life or telling her what to do, either. But it may involve asking her what she’s getting from the apps — other than short-term stimulation. By helping her to focus on what she really wants, as well as the obstacles in her way, she may find a more productive path — or at least return to family holidays.

Holding Your Peace About a Two-Piece

My son’s girlfriend, whom we like, has accompanied us on winter beach vacations. We’ve been going to the same small resort for years. The last few times we went, she wore a thong bathing suit that showed — well — everything. She doesn’t just wear it in the water, either. She wears it while walking and playing games without any cover-up. Whether I should be or not, I am embarrassed by this. We’re going again soon. I don’t want to shame her, but may I ask my son to suggest she wear a less revealing bathing suit?

I don’t want to shame you any more than you want to shame your son’s girlfriend. But another adult’s choice of bathing suit is none of your business. And I can’t think of a worse move for your relationship with this girlfriend than by triangulating it: sending (disapproving) messages to her through your son. Try to let this trifling issue go.

A Statute of Limitations on Chipping In

My friend celebrated a milestone birthday by inviting 20 guests to a private cooking class. There was no mention of cost on the invitation. We had a great time! But a number of us were surprised to receive an email from the guest of honor’s husband after the party, saying that in light of questions he received about costs, we could each pitch in $100 if we wanted to. The two other guests I’ve spoken to find this tacky and insulting: They would not have gone if they had known there would be a hefty price tag, and they should have been told beforehand. Are we obligated to pay?

Of course you’re not obligated to pay! Entry fees for parties (or any event) should be disclosed in advance. Still, I have a small bone to pick with you over your use of friends for cover — (potentially) ascribing your views to other people rather than just speaking your mind.

What other people think about the husband’s email has no bearing on your behavior. If a request seems off base, use your good judgment and behave accordingly. No need to crowdsource your disapproval — or, in this case, even respond to the email. The party’s over!

You safeguard your child’s health and well-being, which is your primary responsibility as a parent. Exactly How To Deal With Challenging Family Members Over The Holiday

Holiday finances, shopping , meal planning, and managing the motherlode of it all are stressful. Those are all outside forces, though. What if your greatest source of stress during the holiday season is sitting next to you at the dinner table? We’re talking about those challenging family members. The ones who nitpick everything, critique your turkey, hold opposite political views, and have you biting your tongue in front of your kids.

“There are multiple challenges that families may face when gathering for the holidays,” Leanna Stockard, LMFT , LifeStance Health tells LittleThings. “Holidays are often the time when family members from out of town, or family that does not often see each other, finally get together again. When this occurs, families can be faced with all of the different dynamics between family members, whether this has to do with clashing personality types, a difference of opinion on certain topics, or criticisms of where they are in life. These dynamics can be between parents and children, siblings, and even with extended families.”

It's one thing if you have issues with one of your family members, because you can somewhat control the situation. But when your sister’s boyfriend starts arguing politics with your husband, it’s a whole other headache.

“Family members outside of the issues can feel the tension between the other family members and may feel like they need to intervene, either by trying to take sides, trying to mediate the situation, or even trying to actively keep the family members with issues away from each other the whole night,” says Stockard. “Furthermore, if the issues between certain family members are unknown amongst the whole family, discussions of the tension and/or the issues may happen secretly, setting the whole mood of the holiday around the issues and the family members they surround.”

Setting practical boundaries may help.

“It is important to mention that boundaries are OK to set, especially amongst family,” says Stockard. “There are different types of boundaries we can set such as emotional, physical, and verbal. Some examples of boundaries to set are keeping yourself accountable for a time limit of how long you will be attending the gathering, not engaging with family members that you do not like, or even refusing to discuss any hot-button issues.”

Stockard adds, “These boundaries can be set preemptively by telling family members that this is what you are hoping for, and if these boundaries are crossed, you will be leaving; or, they can be set in the moment by saying, ‘I’m not comfortable talking with you about this, please do not bring it up again.’”

It might be hard to tell a family member “no” but Stockard encourages it.

“If you face discomfort outright saying ‘no’ to a family member, there are other ways to phrase it,” says Stockard. “For instance, if someone has asked you to do something, you could say, ‘I’m not comfortable doing that,’ or ‘I would rather do something else.’”

Event hosts may have added pressure when it comes to planning the initial guest list.

“If you are hosting the event and there are certain family members you do not want to invite, it can be helpful to talk with family members who you are close to and utilize them as a confidant or a sounding board to figure out the best way to address the lack of an invite,” says Stockard. “If you do not have someone within your family, you can also talk about this with friends and/or your therapist to gain their perspective and knowledge about the situation.”

It’s better to be proactive, rather than reactive, according to Stockard.

“If you ultimately decide that you do not want to address the issue with these family members, then that is your choice,” says Stockard. “It could face some consequences, including them showing up unannounced, assuming they were invited, or potential questions from other family members as to why they are not there. If you do decide that you want to address it with the family members, I recommend doing it prior to sending out the invitations to the social engagement and not right before the party. This could cause additional issues amongst the family or between you and this family member.”

Having a plan of action to address potential arguments can help.

“You can create this plan of action either on your own or with close family members you trust,” says Stockard. “If and when the arguing occurs, I recommend reminding the arguing family members that this is not an appropriate time to address a disagreement and see if it can wait until later. It is important to be respectful of the rest of the family, and if the conversation needs to happen at that exact moment, I recommend asking the arguing parties to take it to another room, away from the family gathering.”

If kids are present, it’s extra incentive to pour water on the fire. “You can say, ‘Please don’t argue around the kids.’”

Keeping calm amid any chaos is essential to keeping the peace.

“If you face difficulty remaining calm during a family conflict, I recommend taking time and space to yourself before, during, and after a family function, as this can help you feel grounded and at ease going into a family gathering that may result in conflict,” says Stockard. “If you are a part of the conflict, try to engage in the same process of taking time to yourself, and add in deep breathing during the conflict, trying to remind yourself not to get worked up. If you are struggling to remain calm, tell the other person that you need some space, and separate yourself away from them. In the meantime, listen to calming music, watch a funny TV episode, or talk to a close confidant.”

If there is a rift in your family, don’t put the weight of repairing it on your shoulders — unless you were part of the drama.

“If you played a major part in the fallout, acknowledge your accountability and responsibility to the rift, and see if the other parties are open to communicating about it,” says Stockard. “It’s important to remember that it takes two (or more) to communicate. With any conflict, cut yourself some slack, and if the other family members involved are not willing to have conversations, then express that you can respect their decision and are willing to discuss the conflict when they are ready. This also goes for you — if they are wanting to resolve the conflict right away, but you feel that you may not be ready to repair the relationship just yet, that is also OK.”

If you weren’t involved, feel free to set boundaries.

“Ask yourself how much responsibility you want to take in repairing it,” says Stockard. “I recommend taking time to determine if you actually want to get involved, as opposed to feeling like you have to get involved.”

If a holiday gathering marked on your calendar is causing you serious anxiety and stress as the date approaches, there is one surefire way to avoid conflict: Don’t go.

“Remember that you do not need to always attend your family’s holiday gatherings,” says Stockard.

Dear Prudence,

I don’t know if I should get the family together for the holidays this year. It’s just me, my brother, and my sister. We’re estranged from our parents, who were abusive addicts. My sister has no car and lives closer to my brother, so we always come to my brother’s for the holidays. Because of busy/conflicting schedules, financial issues, and living far apart, we rarely see each other outside of the holidays, but text often. I’m the oldest and often stepped in where our parents weren’t. This has continued into adult life in some ways. I coordinate the few times we see each other every year and provide financial help when I can, mostly to my sister.

Last year, we showed up at my brother’s house for Thanksgiving, and he had just been in a fight with his partner and the house was a mess. My wife, sister, and I tidied before guests arrived, and his partner took the hint and helped with this. After dinner, mostly cooked by my wife and me, my brother went to play videogames, leaving us and his partner to make awkward small talk with his in-laws and guests. My sister spent most of the time on her phone. I thought it was a one-off, but Christmas was more of the same, and I feel bad putting the expectation of gifts on them when I know what their finances are like. It was stressful and depressing.

Neither of them has mentioned getting together for the holidays yet, so I don’t know if I should bother at this point. It feels like I’m forcing everyone to do something they don’t really want to do. They’re both very conflict averse so if I asked them directly, I would never get an honest answer. At the same time, we are all we have left and maybe it will be different this year?

It’s worth pushing through the lack of enthusiasm, and even some awkwardness, to maintain a connection with your siblings. After all, there’s no animosity here—just three people with significant shared trauma (and probably a sprinkle of the personality differences and varied preferences that make holidays tricky for all families). It sounds like you have what it takes, emotionally and financially, to take the lead here—to play the role of cruise director and offer a little extra enthusiasm to make up for what your brother and sister may be lacking. That’s great. Every family needs someone who is willing to fill the gaps left by other people’s challenges or shortcomings, whether that means bringing enough positive energy to make up for those who lack it, or by shouldering the planning burden.

But your connection with your loved ones doesn’t have to take place over a traditional meal, with a traditional gift exchange. You sound like great candidates for an unconventional holiday routine that works better for everyone. It doesn’t even have to take place on any special day. Why don’t you send a text or email to your brother and sister and throw out some ideas? “Hi you two, just thinking about the upcoming holiday. We would love to come out to wherever is most convenient and I was thinking that instead of a regular holiday meal we could do something different: 1) Have a Hallmark movie or Star Wars marathon 2) Have a competition to see who can make the best mac and cheese 3) All go together to volunteer at a soup kitchen 4) Attend an Adult Children of Alcoholics meeting followed by a funny movie. Let me know if any of these things or a combination of them appeal to you at all. I can cover all the costs. I know we all have a lot going on and with a family like ours, holidays can be tough, so I would really love to create a new tradition that helps keep us close but isn’t stressful for anyone. The last few years were really difficult. I got COVID early on and suffered from long-COVID for almost a year. During that time, I reassessed my priorities and decided I wanted to take 12-18 months to travel the world. I started saving up and finally hit my minimum goal a couple weeks ago. I had always planned to start traveling no more than a couple of months after I reached my money goals. I had always wanted to travel around New England during autumn, so now’s the time.

The only problem is that during the spring I met a guy. We definitely hit it off, but I was busy working and not very social, so nothing really came of it until about three months ago. I expected it would be a fling. It’s gotten more serious. I’ve never really wanted to get married, but I see a future with him. I love him in a way that I didn’t realize was possible. He, however, cannot travel with me. He has not been saving like I have and even if he did have the funds, he’s a teacher and can’t travel for most of the year. Neither of us want to have a long-distance relationship at this stage.

I’m feeling very torn. I’m worried that the best possible future I could have is with him. A part of me is also worried that denying myself my travel dream will cause me to have some kind of a mid-life crisis. I don’t want to wait until retirement to do my dream trips and most of the trips I want to take wouldn’t be possible with time off I would get at a regular job. I know this guy could still be there when I get back, but he also could not be, and I’m worried he might even resent me for leaving him, not for anything he’s done, but just because that’s how people are sometimes. How do I go about making this decision?

Go on the trip! Keep in touch during your travels. You don’t have to be in a long-distance relationship to do that. If this kind of adventure is really your dream—and it sounds like it is—a wonderful test of whether he is the right partner for you will be whether he encourages you to go live it. There’s also a decent chance that you’ll meet yet another person who you can see yourself married to in an apple orchard or something.
