Essay on Freedom Fighters of India - 100, 200, 500 Words

India saw some brave and audacious freedom fighters who fought relentlessly to free their country from the British rule. India's freedom was largely attributed to the contributions of its heroes, Bhagat Singh, Mahatma Gandhi, Rani Laxmi Bai, Subhash Chandra Bose, to name some of them. Every freedom fighter contributed something unique to make India a lovely country to live in. Here are a few sample essays on ‘Indian Freedom Fighters’.

Essay on Freedom Fighters of India - 100, 200, 500 Words

100 Words Essay On Freedom Fighters

India attained independence on August 15, 1947, as a result of the valiant freedom struggle led by its great warriors. Our freedom fighters contributed to fighting a number of conflicts, movements, battles, and upheavals.

Significant contributions have been made by outstanding liberation fighters like Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr Lal Bahadur Shastri, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, and Mahatma Gandhi.

Freedom fighters not only battled to protect their country, but also for everyone who suffered in silence and lost their family, freedom, or even the right to live independently. The people of the country have a great deal of respect for the freedom fighters.

200 Words Essay On Freedom Fighters

India owes its freedom to its valiant freedom fighters. They are the reason why we can take the privilege of celebrating an Independence Day. They were revolutionaries, and some of them employed non-violence as a tool to combat the British. Because of the effort made by our freedom fighters to achieve independence, India finally attained independence on August 15, 1947.

My Favourite Freedom Fighters

Mahatma Gandhi, popularly known as the 'Father of the Nation', is someone I adore dearly and is one of my favourite freedom fighters. He chose the path of non-violence and achieved liberation using just the truth and peace, not any weapons.

Another great freedom fighter was Rani Lakshmi Bai, a strong woman who had a lot to teach by example. Despite facing so many challenges, she battled for the nation. The mother never abandoned her nation for the sake of her kid; rather, she took him to the front lines of the war against injustice.

After a century of revolution, bloodshed, and wars, we were able to take back our freedom from the British. We live in a democratic, independent country because of these outstanding leaders. Numerous freedom fighters struggled to defend the people from British injustice, exploitation, and cruelty. It was their sheer love and dedication for the country and its people that they took India back from the British.

500 Words Essay on Freedom Fighters

Freedom fighters are individuals who dedicate their lives to fighting for the freedom of their people. They are willing to put their own lives on the line in order to bring about change and to stand up for what is right.

Learnings From Freedom Fighters

One of the most important lessons that can be learned from freedom fighters is the importance of standing up for what you believe in. Freedom fighters are not afraid to speak out against injustice and oppression, even when it means putting themselves in harm's way. They show us that it is possible to make a difference in the world, even when the odds are against us.

Another important lesson is the power of perseverance. Freedom fighters are often fighting against powerful and entrenched systems of oppression, and they know that the road to freedom is long and difficult. But they do not give up. They continue to fight, even when the going gets tough, because they know that their cause is just and that freedom is worth fighting for.

Freedom fighters also teach us the importance of empathy and compassion. They understand the suffering of others and they are willing to put themselves in harm's way in order to alleviate that suffering. They show us that it is possible to be selfless and to work for the greater good, even in the face of adversity.

Lastly, freedom fighters remind us of the power of unity. They know that they cannot fight for freedom alone. They rely on the support and solidarity of others in order to achieve their goals. They remind us that when we come together and stand united, we are stronger and more effective in fighting for what is right.

My Experience

I was working as a journalist in a war-torn country when I met a freedom fighter named Ahmed. He was a young man who had dedicated his life to fighting for the freedom of his people. I was immediately drawn to his passion and conviction.

I spent time with Ahmed and his group, learning about their cause and the harsh realities of the war they were fighting. I saw firsthand the atrocities committed by the ruling regime, and the bravery and sacrifice of those who fought against it.

Through Ahmed, I came to understand the true meaning of freedom and the importance of standing up for what is right, even in the face of overwhelming odds. His courage and selflessness inspired me to become more involved in the fight for freedom and to use my platform as a journalist to raise awareness about the struggle.

Meeting Ahmed changed my life in many ways. It opened my eyes to the suffering of others and taught me the power of empathy and compassion. It also made me realise the importance of taking action to make a difference in the world. I will always be grateful for the time I spent with Ahmed and his group, and I will continue to fight for freedom in their honour.

The Unsung Heroes Stories of India Amrit Mahotsav

Unsung Heroes of India’s freedom struggle

Introduction.

In today's fast-moving world and tough competitive day-to-day life, the youth hardly find time for remembrance of our rich heritage and past. This becomes most crucial whilst the nation celebrates Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (commemoration of 75 years of Indian Independence). The fight against colonial rule in India constitutes a unique narrative, one which is not marred by violence. Rather a narrative that is full of variegated stories of valor, bravery, Satyagraha, dedication, and sacrifice across the length and breadth of the subcontinent. These stories compose the rich Indian cultural heritage and traditions. Thus, the unsung heroes need not necessarily define the lesser-known freedom fighters. They may, at times, be the leaders whose ideals delineate the Indian value system.

The Section on Unsung Heroes is an attempt to recall and remember forgotten heroes of our freedom struggle, many of whom might be renowned yet unknown to the new generation. The aim of recreating and bringing forth stories, which lay as faded memories of the past, shall serve as a medium of inspiration and encouragement for the coming generations. India 2.0 is not just about fuelling the spirit of India in any one particular paradigm of growth. It encompasses all spheres of life, most of all by enriching our hearts and souls. The spirit of India is incomplete whilst we take our unsung heroes along this journey of growth and development. Their ethos and principles ought to be recalled and respected.

Unsung Heroes: 10 lesser-known Indian freedom fighters

Times Now Digital

There are so many freedom fighters of India who contributed to the independence movement but their names faded into the darkness.

freedom fighters of india

New Delhi:  This August 15, India will celebrate 74 years of independence from the British Raj and also remember the 200-year old struggle for freedom of our countrymen. The most famous freedom fighters are undoubtedly Mahatama Gandhi, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Mangal Pandey and so on, but there are also others who contributed to the independence movement but their names faded into the darkness.

There were many freedom fighters who looked into the eye of the tyrannical British rulers and dared to raise slogans of an independent India. Some are celebrated all across the world among the Indian community while there are others whose names despite being worthy of all the glory that there is, remain anonymous to the masses today.

Here is the list of 10 lesser-known freedom fighters of India:

Aruna Asaf Ali

At the age of 33, Ali gained prominence among Indian masses and infamy in the British Raj camp after she hoisted the Indian National Congress flag at the Gowalia Tank Maidan in Bombay during Quit India Movement in 1942.

An arrest warrant was issued in her name but she went underground to evade arrest and started an underground movement. Her property was seized and sold. The British government announced then a reward of 5,000 rupees for her capture.

Following India's Independence, she remained active in politics and social work but never received recognition.

Matangini Hazra

Hazra is another freedom fighter who never received her fair share of fame despite sacrificing her life for the country's freedom. She was part of the Quit India Movement and Non-Cooperation Movement.

During a procession against the British, she was shot thrice but that did not deter her from marching with the tricolour in her hands. She also kept shouting 'Vande Mataram' till she breathed her last.

Bhikaji Cama

People may have heard her name on roads and buildings, but very few know who she was and what she did for India.

Cama was not only a part of India's independence movement but also an iconoclast who stood for gender equality during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

She donated most of her personal belongings to an orphanage for girls. She also unfurled the Indian flag at the International Socialist Conference at Stuttgart in Germany, 1907.

Kanaiyalal Maneklal Munshi

Mushi was also known as Kulpati among peers for his active participation in India's freedom movement. He was a big proponent of the Quit India Movement.

He was arrested by the British regime a number of times for his involvement in freedom-related activities. He was also the founder of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

Peer Ali Khan

The most famous hero of the 1857 mutiny was Mangal Pandey, however, only a handful have heard of Peer Ali Khan. He was one of the initial rebels of India and among the 14 people who were hanged for their role in the mutiny.

Even still, his work inspired many who followed. But generations later, his name just faded away.

Lakshmi Sahgal

Captain Lakshmi was an officer in the Indian Army who also served in World War II. She also served time as a prisoner in Burma, now Myanmar.

When Sahgal heard that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was building an army of women soldiers, she enlisted herself. She was directed by the high command to form a female regiment called 'Rani of Jhansi regiment, where she was appointed as a Captain.

Velu Nachiyar

Even before the Sepoy mutiny of 1857, Velu Nachiyar was the first Indian queen to wage a war against the British Raj. The former princess of Ramanathapuram opposed British rule and gave the rulers a good run for their money.

Khudiram Bose

Some might have heard his name as he was one of the youngest revolutionaries of India and is often discussed in history books. His contribution to the freedom struggle is also a significant one as he was just 18 years old when the British hanged him for his activities against the Raj.

Kushal Konwar

The President of Sarupathar Congress Committee was an Indian Tai-Ahom freedom fighter from Assam. He is the only martyr who was hanged in the last phase of the Quit India Movement of 1942-43.

Benoy-Badal-Dinesh

Benoy Basu, Badal Gupta and Dinesh Gupta were 22, 18 and 19 years old respectively when they wore European outfits and entered the Writer's Building. Their target was then Inspector General of Police, Colonel NS Simpson.

They succeeded in killing him but were outnumbered by the security personnel. Benoy took a cyanide pill while the other two shot themselves to avoid capture.

Rani Lakshmi Bai Essay

Essay on Rani Lakshmi Bai

Rani Lakshmi Bai was an unforgettable warrior in the history of India. She is famous as the Rani of Jhansi or as the renowned Queen of Jhansi. Varanasi is the place she belongs to, popularly called Kashi. It was 1857 when the queen showed her heroism and valour, rising with a rebellion against Britishers. This battle was known as the very first war for Independence. Rani Lakshmi Bai died like a hero at the young age of 29 and was amongst the most contributing characters.

Formally known as Manikarnika Tambe, Rani Lakhsmi Bai was the brave daughter of Bhagirathi Tambe and Moropant Tambe. She took birth in 1828, Nov 19th, at Kashi. Rani Lakshmi Bai was a Brahmin girl and got her nickname "Manu" when her father moved to Bithoor, a district in Uttar Pradesh. After her mother's death, they moved as Moropant Tambe (Rani Lakshmi Bai's father) worked as an advisor in the court of Peshwa Baji Rao, general and statesman of the Maratha Empire.

From her childhood days, Manikarnika got all the teaching in martial arts, fencing, horse riding, and shooting. She used to have a good time playing with Rao Sahib, Nana Sahib, Tantia Tope, and other boys who came to Peshwa's court. Rani Lakshmi Bai had a couple of mares as she was good at horse riding. The two mares were named Sarangi and Pavan.

At the age of fourteen, Manu married Maharaja Gangadhar Rao Newalkar. It was 1842, and he was the emperor of Jhansi. Just after marriage, Queen Jhansi got the name of Lakshmi Bai, as she was Laxmi, the Goddess of money in the Hindu religion. As per Marathas’ customs and tradition, Bai is known as one honorable title to represent the Maharani or Queen. She gave birth to a son in the year 1851, whose name was Damodar

Rao. Unfortunately, the child died within four months of his birth because of chronic illness.

The British Government took an opportunity over the Maharaja's death, which caused the loss of bloodline heir, and considered occupying Jhansi. Following the incidents, the British East India Company introduced the rule of Doctrine of Lapse. They pointed out that if any princely state comes under any indirect or direct rule of the Company, and the ruler of the state dies without a male legal heir, that is when the East India Company has the right to annex the state. Manikarnika was displeased by this unfairness, and she pleaded in London Court. Quite naturally, since it was the rule already imposed, all her attempts proved futile.

After the petitions went unaccepted by the British Government or the East India Company, war broke out in 1857. It is popularly known as the Mutiny of 1857. The revolt started at Meerut on 10th May. The revolt's original date was set on 31st May 1857, but people were already emotionally charged, restive, and impatient against the Britishers' exploitations. Hence, they started the revolution way before.

The Queen of Jhansi fought with impeccable valour and courage. She single-handedly fought with the British army till one of the English horsemen struck her on the rear head, and another severely wounded her breast. Despite being heavily injured, she continued the fight bravely and killed the horsemen. She fell from the horse and collapsed on the ground. Rani Laksmi Bai will always be remembered amongst the bravest fighters in Indian history.

Rani Lakshmi Bai, the Rani of Jhansi, was the first woman warrior in Indian history to be this brave and powerful. She gave her life in the struggle for Swaraj and the liberation of India from British domination. Rani Lakshmi Bai is a shining example of patriotism and pride in one's country. For many individuals, she is an inspiration and a source of admiration. Her name will forever be imprinted in golden letters in India's history and in the hearts of all Indians.
