Personal Nutrition Analysis Essay
Proper nutrition is important in maintaining a long and healthy life. Most Americans are rushed due to their busy work schedules, and do not take the time to plan their diets properly. Like me, most Americans are unaware of the importance of eating a healthy diet and consume too many foods without the proper nutrients. Throughout my life I have been fortunate. I have not had any major health problems, and have been able to consume most foods without having to worry about gaining weight. These last two years, however, I started to gain weight and have become concerned with my diet. Changing my poor eating habits has been difficult for me, however, having this assignment has taught me that it is not as difficult as I previously

Food Intake 3 Days
During my three day food intake I discovered that I only consumed 88 grams of protein. In these three meals I spent almost 40 dollars and I was short almost 100 grams of protein required for my weight. Four slices of pizza, and two double cheeseburgers produced the most protein. Oatmeal, beer, and coffee only counted for less than 10 grams. All six items consumed over the 3 day stretch accounted for carbohydrates. The items ranged from 10g to 100g of carbs. The only item with enough lipids was the McDonald’s oatmeal. The rest of the meals were relatively low. I need to make better planning to include more lipids into my health plan.
Nutrition And Its Effects On Health
Just as nutrition can have drastic effects on one’s physical health, nutrition can affect one’s mental health as well. The most common mental disorders that are prevalent in numerous countries are depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). The dietary pattern of the general population in many countries reflect that they are often deficient in many nutrients, especially essential vitamins, minerals, and omega-3 fatty acids. Deficiency in these vitamins can lead to depression.

Personal Statement : Nutrition And Nutrition
Many Americans today do not track their calories or pay attention to what they are eating. As they fail to do so, they also fail to analyze what nutrients, food groups, and physically activity they receive adequately and which they lack. As I have tracked foods and beverages that I have consumed, I have been able to collect data about which food groups/nutrients I consume adequately, where the majority of my calories come from, and how my physical activity compares to that recommended.

American Diet Research Paper
Johnny Bowden explains that the American diet does not supply the essential vitamins and minerals necessary for good health (Bowden). Bowden is known to be an expert on weight loss and health. “Vitamin and minerals are essential to life, you can believe it or not, but your body will not function properly without them” (Bowden). If so, is it possible that a healthy diet and certain foods can fight diseases? Eating vitamins, minerals, and nutrition may help fight off certain diseases.
Most people know that good nutrition is important for good health. But not many people realize the importance a healthy diet can have on their health and their children’s health for years to come. A good diet helps children grow, develop, and do well in school. It also helps young and older adults to work productively and feel their best. Without a proper diet or a serious lack of nutrition a person is making his or her self susceptible to all sorts of diseases. All people, young and old, need to have a healthy and nutritional diet if they want to avoid the many diseases caused by poor nutrition.

Proper nutrition is one of the most essential elements to being healthy and living a long life. People deal with food every day, and food has been a part of life since the beginning of civilization. What we eat becomes our diet, and our diet plays a major role in deciding how healthy we are and how well our body functions. Nutrition Reflection Paper
In the past few weeks, I have attempted to exercise at least 5 times a week, challenge myself by eating more fruits and veggies, drinking more water, eating more superfoods, and getting at least 8 hours of sleep at night. I also worked on overall improving my own wellness with more meditation, winding down at night before sleeping, and dumping the processed, unhealthy foods. At the beginning, I thought this would be simple, but as days passed, I soon realized how unhealthy my usual lifestyle is and how much better I was feeling focusing more on my health. From running a mile around the neighborhood to sleeping more at night, I saw an improvement physically and mentally.
Nutrition Report Essay
We are required to obtain certain amount of nutrients from food. Food can simply divide into 2 groups, macro-nutrients and micro-nutrients composition. Both of the groups mentioned do affect the metabolism rate. According to Hulbert and Else, dietary fatty acid will affect the metabolism rate and some of the polyunsaturated fatty acid will increase the metabolism rate (1999). Meanwhile, different kinds of animals have their own unique requirement for macro-nutrients, such as proteins, carbohydrates and fat. Moreover, most of the food intake is driven by achieving the required protein intake. Animals on a low protein diet will over eat carbohydrates and fat until the protein requirement has been satisfied. If this case

Essay On Nutrition Problems
People and Nutrition Problems Healthy foods seem to be very far away from us that we rather get a pizza or hamburger for our meal. One of the biggest problems in our society is that not everybody invests the necessary time on cooking and preparing the right healthy meal that they are about to consume. Accessing healthy foods is difficult while there are many fast food restaurants all around our city which tend to have cheaper prices and they are easier to consume as well. In the other hand there is an importance of acknowledging which type of foods are the right foods for our bodies. However, there might be people with economic problems creating a barrier on accessing healthy foods or getting to know more about the healthy foods actions…
Reflective Essay On Food Log
From a young age, my parents have always enforced the idea of eating healthy constantly badgering me to eat my vegetables or have a piece of protein with my meals. Although I might not have understood why their reprimanding was important, over the course of these last few weeks in biology I have come to realize that having a sound diet in many ways encompasses what it means to be healthy and live life to its fullest. By actively moderating, recording, and learning about what I have been eating I can now clearly understand that my parents were right to encourage healthy eating in my home. My parent, specifically my mother, was always the one who cooked and influenced my healthy eating at a young age. When looking at my food logs for this…

I realized that I eat an extensive amount of meat and that affected the category of saturated fat in the report. I fell into the category of under in the Dietary Fiber part; therefore, I plan to substitute some of the saturated fat for dietary fiber in order to get equilibrium between those two categories. I learned that I need to get some food rich in calcium, potassium and magnesium. After some research, I discovered that I can obtain that drinking more milk and eating more fish. I discovered that I consumed fish not in a regular basis; therefore, I am planning to introduce that food into my diet. Moreover, I reaffirmed that I am in a good standing in many categories such as the total fat, sodium, copper and potassium. I discovered also that I am in a good standing in the amount of calories which I consume in a daily basis. I want to lose weight; therefore I want always to be less than 2000 calories. I reached an average of 1762 calories in three days; therefore, I have been accomplishing my goal. Furthermore, I was surprised of the amount of empty calories that I consumed. Even though I consumed a good amount of calories per day, I consumed approximately 340 empty calories per day. I am planning to lower the amount of empty calories which I consume in the

Nutritionism is an ideology that believes that the nutrients in foods are the key to understanding them. Nutritionism believers are so focused on the nutrients that food contains that they forget about all other aspects of food. The problem is that consumers rely on packaging to tell them what nutrients a food provides, since nutrients cannot be obviously seen, and they rely on science to tell us what nutrients are good and which are “evil”.
The late Nineteenth Century saw increased industrial growth in the United States. One of the major developments that led to the increased industrial growth was the expansion of the railroad. The railroad provided infrastructure that made it cheap to transport goods from one place to another. Investors could now build industries in different parts of the country and transport products fast and to a wide network of consumers. Another resource that fostered industrial growth was the influx of immigrants into the United States. During this time, many foreigners were able to come into the country and provide cheap labor for building industries thus reducing the cost of industrialization. In addition, the country was in need of vigorous development to cater for the needs of the growing population at that time.

The question comes up again; “How is your diet?” Jessica revisited her diet analysis from the first week of class. She noticed that some things have changed and some things, unfortunately, have not changed. She knew that some things would not change because of the hectic and busy semester and summer she had ahead of her but the things that did change surprised her. This class did some good for her, but she still needs some work on her diet and nutrition.
In Defense Of Food Essay
Nutritionism and Today’s Diet Nutritionism is the ideology that the nutritional value of a food is the sum of all its individual nutrients, vitamins, and other components. In the book, “In Defense of Food” by Michael Pollan, he critiques scientists and government recommendations about their nutritional advice. Pollan presents a strong case pointing out the many flaws and problems that have risen over the years of following scientific studies and government related warnings on the proper amount of nutrients needed for a healthy diet. Pollan’s main point is introducing science into our food system has had more of a negative impact than a positive one, we should go back to eating more of a traditional diet. I believe food science has given us

Saturated fats were the only excess that was recorded so I chose two of the main problem areas that I had prior to my program. My sodium and sugar intakes were excessively high and were consumed by fast food dinners more than four times a week, sweet tea and soft drinks. The best way to combat these excesses is to modify my meals and pay more attention to what I put into my body. To lower my sodium levels, I modified meals at home by using more low-sodium or sodium free ingredients as well as exchanging fast food stops for prepping dinners for the week on Sunday nights. My sugar intake was due mainly to my ‘need’ for large sweet teas and candy that I always seemed to have in my purse. I am still able to have my tea but it is only sweetened with Stevia and there is no longer candy in my purse aside from sugar free gum. My saturated fat intake was barely above the target amount but by cutting out the butter on baked potatoes and switching to fat-free dairy products will allow me to lower the

Babies should then continue to breastfeed for a year, or however long the mother or baby desire. Most people do not understand the importance of breastfeeding mainly because they are unaware of the benefits of breast milk. Research shows a significant correlation between breastfeeding and intelligence, such as a higher IQ. Researchers are not sure whether breastfeeding causes a higher intelligence or if it is just an association.

Nutrition and Food Intake
Since we have been learning about nutrition in class, our task was to record a food log. Nutrition requires a well-balanced diet containing nutrient and vitamins like amino acids and fatty acids. Over the past seven days I have been recording and have been looking very carefully at my intake of nutrients, minerals, vitamins, and fats. In our task, the objective was to record the basic foods we ate during the period of seven, but it did not require recording every single detail or our intake of food. Doing this food log was a pain and it was disturbing because I never wrote about what I ate like breakfast, lunch, dinner, or additional meals. I found this food log useful because it helped me learn what I can change in my intake of foods to make my diet healthy and to see what about my diet is affecting me from being healthy because I could affect me in the future.
My Personal Behavior Change
One of the reason’s why I felt my nutrition needed to changes is because nutrition is a huge part of a healthy lifestyle, the way that we eat and what foods we consume can have a huge impact on our everyday lives. Nutrition plays a huge role in multiple facets of a person’s life energy, health, skin, weight, confidence, and more making having a good control on your eating habits extremely important. How we eat over the years and what foods we routinely choose to eat can eventually have a lasting effect on use and what we consider to be most appealing and appetizing at any given moment. Having these craving and routine habits makes eating, diet, and nutrition both a behavior and a lifestyle choice that can be changed over time with help from the theories learned in this class.

Reflection On Food Intake
I recorded my food intake for two seperate days during the week. I kept track of my food intake for Wednesday the 21st of March along with that Saturday, the 24th of March. There were a couple differences when comparing the two days after recording them and looking at my Meal Summary. I ate a variety of foods both days when looking through my Meal Summary. I ate plenty of protein and grains during those two days along with fruits. When looking at both Wednesday and Saturday I noticed that I ate more on a weekday rather than on a weekend day. I came to the conclusion that it is because I am much more busy during the week verse the weekend.

Sci 241 Final Project
Throughout the course of the last nine weeks, my eyes have been opened to an entirely new world full of nutritional and exercising information. It is rough being a thirty-three year old husband and father, with an eye on trying to remain on this planet for as long as humanly possible. As parents, we all have goals we want to achieve. The usual suspects include seeing your children graduate high school and then college, walking your daughter down the aisle of her wedding, and being able to retire and continue to live a healthy and happy life. What I have come to realize through this nutritional and exercising information is that in order to accomplish this goal, there are certain aspects of my life that I need to change. I am not a particularly healthy eater. I do not exercise regularly. I mostly do what I can with the time I have available. I suspect this problem plagues many men across this country and around the world. In my state, the obesity rate is close to 30% and it continues to trend upward (Centers for Disease Control, 2011). Without a drastic change in lifestyle, I am simply adding to the statistics. The knowledge I have gained in this course has led me to believe that this is simply unacceptable. Something has to change, and I have a plan to make that happen.…

There are many benefits of good nutrition. ”Medical Online” states “besides helping you maintain a healthy weight, good nutrition is essential for the body and all its system to function optimally for a lifetime.” A healthy diet promotes good sleep, gives the body what it needs to stay healthy, and provides energy. According to “Mealtime Memo” Good nutrition means getting the calories that we need for energy and the nutrients we need for proper growth. I’m learning that variety, balance, and moderation are the key to healthy nutrition. As I am learning what I should and should not eat I will like you to invite you to take a look at my food intake. This essay will converse about my intake of protein, carbohydrates, lipids, macronutrients intake ranges, fiber intake ranges, and dietary modifications based on three full days of my food intake. After recording my dietary intake for three days through the Wiley iProfile and reviewing the reports, I have found that this provides a better scope of my eating habits and the nutritional value in each thing I eat.…

Reflections on Nutrition
Throughout the class I have learned many things about nutrition that I did not know about my own health. The assignments on the diet analysis, obesity, and healthy eating plan helped me learn the most about my nutrition and what I can do to improve it. The assignment that I enjoyed the most was the three-day diet analysis for both week one and week six. These assignments helped me see what I was consuming too much of and what I was not consuming enough of. I found out that I was consuming too much of the mineral sodium, which in my family leads to high blood pressure. I also found out that I am not consuming near enough fruits and vegetables. Both weeks I was hardly eating any fruit at all. Since I have been consuming more fruits and vegetables I find that I am less hungry throughout the day. The discussion question topic that interested me the most was the second discussion question in week six about obesity. We had to visit the American Obesity Awareness website and answer the question of what we learned about obesity from that site that we did not know before. I was completely unaware that obesity can cause cancer. I was amazed at that fact. I was also amazed of the fact that 200 million Americans are either considered obese or overweight, that is a lot of people. The assignment that affected me the most in terms of overall health and nutrition was the healthy eating plan assignment from week one. This assignment helped me see what foods I was missing from my diet and what I needed to take out of my diet. I started consuming more fruits and vegetables and less grains. I will take this information with me and work on my weight loss goals. I also learned a little about exercise too. But the most important to me right now is working on my eating habits. I do not want to become obese like my parents are, so I will work at losing the weight that I need...
...Reflections on Nutrition YOUR NAME INSTITUTION Reflections on Nutrition This class helped me realize that one of the major keys to health and happiness is healthy nutrition and exercise. All assignments played an important role in convincing me to start implementing a balanced nutritional plan in order to maintain a healthy weight. Starting with the first assignment “Healthy Eating Plan”, I learned that appropriate nutrition not only guides me to a learned dedication, but it also leads to a lifetime practice on the way to a healthy extensive life. After submitting the assignment I was aware that proper nutrition can be achieved only through consuming all necessary nutrients in different amounts and that some nutrients are more important than others. For example, protein broken down to amino acids serves as unifying enzymes, antibodies, vitamins, and hormones; carbohydrates including fiber is the energy supplier to the body which in turn spreads it to the brain, central nervous system, and red blood cells; fibers’ function is to prevent diseases such as coronary heart disease and diabetes; fats also supply energy and increase the body absorbance of vitamins. The recommendations gathered from MyFoodPyramid has been a guide in balancing my individual nutritional needs with physical activity and allowed developing a plan that maintains a healthy weight and prevents disease appearing. The assignment on......

...Title: Reflections on Nutrition Course: SCI/241 Date: 4/3/12 Instructor: Kantrell Brown Before I took this class I slept, eat, and drank because I was tired, hungry, or thirsty. My stomach was rumbling, I was bored, sad, happy, or just because ice cream and donuts looked and tasted good. I never really gave much thought into why my body needs food. I now realize that the food we eat provides the energy our bodies need to function. Like gas in one’s car or recharging our cell phones our bodies need to be fed energy to maintain our activities every day. It is our little helpers of vitamins and minerals that provide the adequate balance that keeps or bodies healthy. Every assignment that we had to do was a new learning experience. I like every assignment because it taught me something that I never thought about, especially the digestive system. This makes me realize how intricate our bodies are, and the transformation that happen when we open our mouth. It taught me how food and liquid are absorbed by the entire body and how this complex system is the secret to our health. Understanding how miraculous our bodies really work helped me understand why it is important to eating right. The one assignment that affected me the most was the dehydration one. I am not much of a drinker, and I usually do not drink unless I am thirsty...

Reflections on Nutrition Sci 241 Week9
...Reflections on Nutrition SCI/241 4/4/2011 Summer Groff Week 9 Checkpoint Reflecting on what I have studied so far on nutrition, using my assignments completed up until this point is that I have come to the knowledge of how the human body works from the moment food enters the mouth through digestion and coming out as waste. I have also obtained knowledge about how the body changes through aging, and how diet and exercise can actually help the body’s digestion and growth process. I have learned through doing research throughout my course on nutrition, which has helped me gained understanding on what to do to stay healthy as I age. The assignment that I enjoyed throughout this class is the three day activity analysis. After completing the analysis I became aware of what I was eating and made me aware that food is the body’s main source of fuel, which means that nutrients in food gives the body cells energy to function. I am now cautious and made changes of what I eat. Making healthy decisions and adding daily exercise to my life style has improved my health. Another assignment I enjoyed was week 5 on dehydration. I learned much about the importance of water and how the body needs water to function adequately. Water washes away and cleanse out toxins, it also assists the cell functioning, and is the primary aid of the ear, nose and throat functioning. Water also bathes the cells in the body and serves as a lubricant; it cleanses both external and internal......

...Elizabeth Johnson CH 203 Essentials of Organic and Biochemistry Nutritional and Exercise Portfolio October 30, 2015 Section 1. Introduction Nutrition and exercise is very important in everyone’s everyday life. Nutrition and exercise have an impact on a persons overall health. It is important to watch calorie intake as well as the expenditure. Other variables such as age, gender, and genetics have a major role in ones health as well. Part A. Family History On my mothers side there is history of diabetes, and my great grandpa just died recently from it. He did not address his medical problems right away and did not take care of it when it was in full effect. So this being in my family background has an affect on me for sure. My grandmother on my mother’s side has been a smoker for around thirty years now. She hasn’t had any major medical issues because of it. She is a farmer so she is always keeping busy and staying active with driving the tractors and keeping up with the animals. She has always cooked healthy meals, but likes to snack. My uncle on my mother’s side is very healthy and active. He goes to a cross fit gym everyday and runs marathons often. He doesn’t like to say he diets, because it is a way of living. My mother has also been a smoker for as long as I can remember. For most of my life I lived with my mom, and we did a lot of eating out. She never encouraged me to eat healthy or keep active in school sports. My grandmother on my father’s......

...Capstone: reflections on Nutrition Michelle A. Lilley SCI/241 May 25, 2011 Mike Esposito Capstone: reflections on Nutrition This class has been very enlightening for me and I have truly enjoyed it, but I think that the assignment I liked most was the human digestion system in week two. This was very interesting to me to see exactly how this process works and all the different areas that we have that work as one for the digestion process to occur. I did try a new diet plan that USDA Food Guide Pyramid suggested and ate more different kinds of foods that were recommended out of my normal routine. I felt that it just was not for me. Although I did start eating more dark green vegetables and other types of vegetables that I normally would not eat because of the type of diet lifestyle I was on, and I feel it has made me feel better about myself that I am getting the nutrients that I need to be healthy. I started this in the week one assignment: Fundamentals of health and diet. This lesson also taught me the importance that introducing the different kinds of vegetables and foods to my diet was more healthful to me. I also learned this in week five: The impact of water, Vitamins and Minerals. I feel this week was the most useful to me and helped me understand the importance of water in our diets and the importance of vitamins and minerals to keep us healthy. Overall I truly enjoyed everything I learned in this class and hope to use all the tools for the......

...Checkpoint: Reflections on Nutrition As I reflect on what I have learned about science nutrition, using the assignments that I have completed up to this point as a reference I would say that now I understand how the body transforms everything from cheeseburgers to vegetables into energy that we can use and need to operate daily functions of the body. I have also learned how changes such as aging, illnesses, and exercise can affect the body’s digestion process and growth process. The chapter in the textbook has introduced me to the latest research and the benefits and possible dangers of antioxidants. The assignment: Healthy Eating Plan Comparison and the assignment: Three Day Activity Analysis has influenced me to become more aware than ever that food is my body's main fuel source. Which means the nutrients in food gives my body's cells the energy and other substances it needs to operate that is why I need to be very mindful as to what I put in my body. I understand the digestion process and why it such a vital part the body. The digestion process breaks down the nutrients into the simplest forms so the body can metabolize the necessary vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, sugars. I think without digestion the body could not use the food in the form it is ingested. I am now very conscious of the common digestive problems and ways to alleviate them. If I had to choose one assignment that I enjoyed the most it would be the Checkpoint: Nutrition Needs......

Community Health Nursing Reflection
...Community Health Nursing Reflection NUR/405 August 7, 2012 Community Health Nursing Reflection According to Phyllis Meadows (2009), “Community health nurses are valued for their adaptability and willingness to provide care in many settings, including community health clinics, churches, homeless shelters, and schools,” (p. 19). Community health nurses aim to improve health outcomes and improve the infrastructure used to monitor and manage disease within the community. Healthy People 2020 has established benchmarks and monitored progress over time to improve health outcomes. Each community has unique needs and the role of the community health nurse is to work with and provide comprehensive care to patients within the community. This reflection addresses the role of the community health nurse with the participating family and their community in Spring Mills, Pennsylvania. Community health nurses working in the Spring Mills, PA are faced with numerous challenges in this small rural community. Construction and manufacturing account for 42% of the industry of Spring Mills. With these professions comes increased risk of work related injuries and illnesses. Educational services account for only 3% of the industry, wholesale and retail trade account for 10%, accommodation and food services 15%, and 30% account for a combination of professional, scientific, and technical services. Community health nurses play a role in ensuring safety in the workplace by creating and......

...health and nutrition problems. By law, manufacturers must abide by the standard code terms of what is put on their food label. By this, a food label must have no false claims or information, be in English and legible and easy to see. Also must contain a barcode, name of food, list of ingredients in descending order of weight, net weight, any additives in the food, country of origin, use of imported ingredients, name and address of manufacturer, date marking and nutrition panel if any claims are made. New guidelines for food packaging should insist that products containing GMO’s be labeled as such, and that all chemical additives be listed according to their exact name, not under the umbrella of “natural and artificial flavors.” Genetically engineered plants, and corn in particular, have demonstrated an ability to reduce biodiversity by contaminating nearby non-GMO fields and breeding in GM suicide genes. Although not perfect, this mutual coercion would prevent the few (shareholders of food companies) from taking advantage. Many of us are unaware of how we are treating nature by purchasing the food that we buy. When a shopper goes to purchase eggs, for instance, there are conventional varieties, vegetarian-fed, free-range, cage-free, organic, biodynamic, and humane certified. Most people who can afford to do so, want to purchase the best quality eggs but are confounded by the differences between these many labels. Perhaps our factory farms are a reflection of our......

Why Is Childhood Obesity Important To Me
...As plenty of us know, times have changed drastically. From the clothes, music, food, even the way we now parent children. We have learned that our behaviors, and likes and dislikes affect the way we parent our children. A major change that has occurred over time is child obesity, but not for the better. Have you ever sat back, took a good look around and realized how childhood obesity is becoming widely acceptable? Perhaps parents do not have the skills to implement positive change. In this case, the increase of childhood obesity is a blaring reflection of poor nutrition, lack of parenting, and changes in social skills. Being healthy begins with great nutrition. However, many children are running to fast food and junk rather than the healthier alternative, a home cooked meal or a healthy snack like fruits or vegetables. Most of the food that kids are eating are full of carbs, fats, and sugar. Nutrition plays a vital role to ensure that we get the proper...

...Community Health Nursing Reflection NUR/405 Cynthia Januale Community Health Nursing Reflection This assignment was very interesting and unique compared to other assignments that I have had in the past. Visiting and studying the community that I chose gave me quite the insight on various issues that, had it not been for this assignment, I may not have picked up on before. “In any setting, the role of public health nurses focuses on the prevention of illness, injury or disability, the promotion of health, and maintenance of the health of population” (The Role Of Public Health Nurses, 2012, para. 2). In the community I chose to survey, as with any community, the role of community nursing focuses on the items listed above and in addition, I believe that because of the lower to middle income level of this community, focus should also be on better health care accessibility to the residents. Community Nursing Diagnosis’ and Interventions Three possible community nursing diagnoses for the community that I observed were as follows. Risk for accidents related to the poor vision by oncoming traffic as evidenced by the multiple cars lining the streets. Children and others are walking to and from the store and through the neighborhood to the park where they play and oncoming traffic may have difficulty seeing pedestrians because of the amount of cars parked on the side of the road. Possible interventions for this problem include wearing reflective clothing so that......

...Jake Thurston Jordan Dolson EDPS Reflection I thought it was very interesting when Katie came and talked to us last week. It was sort of a change of pace for us as everything we had talked about had been geared towards careers and majors. But her talking about nutrition and the need to stay healthy was, in my opinion, just as important as all of the other stuff we have talked about. When you are healthy and feeling good, it makes everything in your life better including your job. When she told us how our plates should be arranged and how much of each food group we should have on the plate was very interesting. I didn’t realize that you would need to eat that much fruit and vegetables compared to the other groups. I thought it would be about a fourth together, but it was actually closer to half the plate of vegetables and fruit. Another cool thing she talked about was how to eat healthy in the dining courts. That is a very big issue because it is buffet style and when you see that fresh tray of cookies coming out it can be very tempting to eat about five of them. The step where she said you should rethink your drink was pretty good, because since I’ve been here I haven’t drunk any pop or carbonated drinks, pretty much only water, and I can definitely tell a difference. I feel so much better and not as lethargic as I used to. The last topic she hit on might be one of the biggest factors for the dreaded freshman fifteen, the mini fridge. She said that it should be...

Community Health Reflection
...Community Health Nursing Reflection Veronica Hubbard NUR/405 June 25, 2012 Cindy Januale Community Health Nursing Reflection Community health nursing is a specialty field of nursing which care is provided to people in the community setting. A community health nurse can provide care to children and the adult population. As a result of the economic depression, more people in the community are becoming jobless, homeless, low-income, and uninsured. So the need for community health nurses has drastically increased. The child community health nurses’ role is concentrating on health promotion and prevention strategies. According to Contemporary Nurse Journal (2011), “the role is broaden to include multifaceted case management, home visiting, outreach programs, early identification and primary intervention of clients with psychosocial and mental health issues, group facilitation, the traditional one to one client contact and multidisciplinary team function (p. 72). The role for a community nurse in the adult setting is to prevent health problems in at risk individuals, promote disease prevention strategies, to provide care and available resources to needy individuals and families in the community. According to Stanhope and Lancaster (2012), “community health nursing practice is the synthesis of nursing theory and public health theory applied to promoting, preserving, and maintaining the health of populations through the delivery of personal health care services to......

Evidence Based Practice
...encompass decision making within nursing practice. Cullum et al (2007) identifies four requirements:-Clinical experience, valid researched evidence, available resources and lastly but no less important the patient preferences and experiences. The area of clinical practice to be studied is within a community district nursing team consisting of 7 qualified nurses and 3 health care assistants. The location is situated within a seaside town with a large population of over 65 year olds. Through clinical experience, the author has found a flaw in quality of care when nursing staff are using the overview assessment document which has been adapted from the single assessment process produced by the Department of Health (DOH, 2002). When assessing nutrition there is a series of six questions and an asterisk to consider the “Malnutrition Universal Screening Tool” (MUST, 2003) however experience in practice would suggest the tool (MUST, 2003) isn't used and a local unknown screening tool is used on some rare occasions. The author feels management of these vulnerable patients is lacking and in order to improve patient care a clarification of guidance and service change maybe required. Exploring Cullum's (2007) theory of decision making, the author needs to justify the service change with valid researched evidence. As a nurse in practice it can be...

Nutrition Reflection Paper Example
Eating usually occurs when we are hungry but other factors influence how we actually eat. The environment and culture that we are exposed to plays a significant role in shaping our eating.1 This influence has impacted me since I love American soul food which is often cooked in my family. I grew up in a culture where soul food was a staple, and hence I inadvertently picked up the habits around. There are also those foods that I grew up eating since I was young. I often indulge in consuming comfort foods, especially when I want a quick fix to satisfy my cravings for something sweet. Comfort foods are things that people usually eat to feel better.2 The comfort foods recipes are primarily influenced by what I ate growing up at home, which shows that cultural influences live with us for a long time. I often eat things like apple pie, pancakes, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, grits, chocolate chip cookies, and ice cream among others. Most of these indulgent snacks and meals are full of sugar and unsaturated fats which are vital contributors to cases of obesity.2 However, I am not overweight despite my indulgence in all these sweet nostalgic recipes.

I am conscious of the advantages of proper nutrition, and hence I strive to eat what is best for my body. I love eating salads since they have numerous health benefits to the body such as folic acid, fiber, and vitamin C.1 I believe that healthy eating is the best way to stay clear of lifestyle diseases like high blood pressure in the future. Salads consist primarily of fruits and vegetables which are nutrient-dense foods.1 My salad eating habit has developed due to my mother's influence and also because of the conscious need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. My eating habits also include some unhealthy indulgences like sweets. I eat too many sweets, and I know it cannot be good for my health due to the high sugar content. However, I can help myself since I formed the habit since I was a young child.
My current eating habits are a reflection of how I grew up and my current surroundings. My parents have naturally had a significant influence on my food choices since I have grown accustomed to dishes that were prepared at home. Growing around soul food enthusiasts created the urge that I always have for this particular meal. I also tend to eat comfort foods when I feel nostalgic since they give me a feeling of the good old days at home. I enjoy salads because the media today is always portraying the dangers of the unhealthy foods we eat.1 Many nutritionists recommend vegetables for their nutritional value.
I see many connections between my food preferences and my past influences. I love eating Caribbean food due to my Caribbean heritage. The meals that were always cooked as I grew up in this culture are still some of my favorites to date. My love for salads is also due to my mother's insistence since I was little. She always insisted that we eat a salad every day for healthy bodies.
My past will have a significant influence on the people I work with because I have had diverse experiences. The fact that I enjoy what I eat based on my past preferences, environment, culture, and experience means that I understand the importance of these factors in determining the food choices people make. This knowledge will shape my public perception since everyone has different backgrounds and hence different tastes as well.

Reflection on Nutrition
Reflections on Nutrition Overall I have enjoyed every aspect of this class. However, I must say that I enjoyed the healthy eating plan assignment. This assignment gave me an overview of my eating habits as a whole. Having to put everything on paper enabled me to acknowledge a change was needed and where the change was needed. Prior to composing a healthy eating plan, I was never equipped with the knowledge to know there were nutrients missing from my daily diet. This particular assignment showed me that I wasn’t absorbing enough fiber daily and that I needed to consume more whole grains, fruits and green vegetables.
I’ve also learned that a combination of good nutrition and regular exercise together will assist me in maintaining good health. I also understand the importance of eating a well balanced meal to ensure the recommended amount of daily nutrients is being met. I can’t pinpoint any one particular assignment that has affected my life in terms of overall health and nutrition habits because they all have affected my overall health in a positive way. I now make a conscious effort to watch my fat and calorie intake.
The readings have helped to better understand how the body digests foods and the impact a poor diet can have on the body. This class has also enlightened me on impact of what I eat today and how it will affect my body tomorrow. Since starting this class I have lost 35lbs and have seen a significant decrease in my sugar levels and have more energy than ever. To ensure I live a healthier life and rid myself of having to take medication for my type-2 diabetes and hyper tension, it is mandatory I continue the path of eating healthy and exercising on a regular

Reflection On Nutrition Assessment
Nutrition assessment is a process of collecting, integrating ad analyzing nutrition related data including food-drug interactions, cultural, religious and ethnic food preferences, age related nutrition issues and the need for diet counselling. Nutritional status is the condition of the heath of a person which is influenced by the intake ad utilization of nutrients. We can either have a normal nutritional status or a bad nutritional status known as malnutrition. If our body is taking food nutrients in the right amount to meet the body need, then it is considered as a good nutritional status. But on the other hand if the nutrients been provided for the body are not adequate or not properly utilized by the body then there will be an imbalance …show more content…
From my observation I have come to understand that if proper nutritional assessment is done there are so many nutritional imbalance that would have been avoided. During nutritional assessment I have to notice that it is an avenue for health educating people about balance diet. Some months back I saw a small girl of about 6years old who looked like a 12year old child. She was very obese. I was as surprised as to how her parents allowed her to become this obese. I chatted with the parents and asked the girl what she have been eating, she answered that she takes more of ice cream, cake and Indomie. The mother testified that she doesn't eat well and only eat those three things the girl mentioned well. It was obvious to me that they do not understand the harm they were causing to her. She is an only child and they felt they were granting her desires. By height and weight she is far beyond her age mate’s ad by her BMI she is obese. I was able to quickly tell them the implications of the type of food they were giving to her ad the consequences in the future. I told them that they have to change her nutrition ad help her to reduce weight and eat balance diet. I only silently prayed that they understood and implement the

Nutritional Science 203 Assignment 2 1. Choose a micronutrient or a macro-mineral that you would like to learn more about and why (2 points). The macro-mineral that I am interested in learning about is calcium because the body does not produce calcium, so we have to obtain it from food sources. However, being lactose intolerant makes me vulnerable to have lower calcium intake than the average recommended, which is why I compensate that by taking calcium supplements.
Review Of In Defense Of Food By Michael Pollen
He gives an explanation of nutritionism is “decidedly unscientific things” (19) and studying nutrients is “the only thing [nutritional scientists] can do” (62). He explains in detail that the nutrient content of the food depends on the different soil. Different food has so many nutrition, each food has many functions to aid to build the human body stronger. The author reminds us that in nutrition science, much is still a theory and most encouragements need to improve. Also, nutrition science has usually put more of its energies into the idea that the problems it studies are the result of too much of a bad thing instead of too little of a good
