Why We Should Respect Our Teachers (Essay Sample)

Why we should respect our teachers.

Teaching is considered as a noble profession, with teachers granted the privilege of respect within the society. In several societies, the teacher is allowed a place of respect just like an individual’s mother or father. In other words, teachers are upheld as men and women of wisdom and infinite knowledge, hence deserving respect. However, the democratization of education has opened up opportunities for different students from different castes, creeds, class, and places of birth, an aspect that has seen the need for more teachers and schools. In as much as teachers remain in authority in molding students, there is a need to place them on top of the social pyramid with due respect as the makers of character in students.

Secondly, teachers uphold students with much care and sincerity as they would do their children. According to several communities, teachers are perceived as the greatest of all parents since they spend much of their time with their subjects compared to their parents. In this case, it is evident to consider that the parents are solely responsible for the birth of their children while the teachers take part in shaping their character in a bid to make their futures bright, an aspect that denotes the need to respect out teachers. Given this, we should never ignore or neglect our teachers, but always ensure that we grant them the respect and love they require.

On the other hand, parents are given the responsibility of showing love and quality care to their children. However, it is upon the teachers to shape the characters and behaviors of children to enable them to share their love with the world and the things they relate with in life. Teachers, in this case, ensure that their students understand the significance of education in their lives through their continuous efforts. Teachers additionally act as sources of inspiration for the students, thus nurturing success and the capacity to understand life. The teachers, therefore, motivate their students through the use of examples of great personalities globally with the intention of making their lives a success.  In this regard, they ensure that their students are stronger and prepared to withstand all the barriers in life. Through their immense knowledge and wisdom, the teachers nourish the lives of their students to ensure they turn out responsible in life, thus denoting the need to grant them respect in the community.

Teachers additionally play significant roles towards the education and the shaping of their students’ lives. This is evident in the fact that teachers are vision bearers, knowledge holders, and experience givers in life. The teaching profession, therefore, accords the teachers great responsibility that shapes the students tomorrow, thus establishing the need to respect the teachers since this impacts the growth, well-being, and development of their subjects. In as much as there are times when our teachers are bound to make a fool out of us by embarrassing and humiliating us in a classroom, considered as the cruelest punishment, we should never retaliate badly. Given this, we need to ensure that as students we are in a position to abide by all the rules of the school, an aspect that cultivates respect between the students and the teachers. Additionally, we need to make teachers our best friends and not enemies, a perception that has been established by students, thus negating the perception of respecting teachers. In this regard, it is vital to attest to the fact that all the great minds that exist in the world today have passed through the hands of teachers, thus positing the need to respect our teachers.

Response From Sheldon L. Eakins, Ph.D.

Sheldon L. Eakins, Ph.D., is the director of the Leading Equity Center and host of the Leading Equity Podcast. With over 11 years in education, he has served as a teacher, principal, and director of special education. Dr. Eakins has a passion for helping educators accomplish equitable practices in their schools:

What You Can Do with Just Five Minutes

Classroom management can be a struggle for teachers. Not just for new teachers, but veteran teachers may also face challenges with managing their classrooms as well. One major portion of managing a classroom is student discipline. When I talk to teachers about their classroom management, the conversation of dealing with student behavior typically comes up.

The reality is students respect teachers who they feel respect them. The more students respect you and believe that you have their best interest at heart, the easier it is to facilitate a culturally sustaining learning environment.

I have had conversations with teachers who are frustrated that their students do not respect them. They start with blaming students with comments like, “Kids these days are so disrespectful” or “My students come to class just to play and need to learn how to listen to instructions.” My question is always, “What have you done to earn your students’ trust and respect?”

If we haven’t done the work to build relationships with our students, we might find it difficult to manage our class.

Building relationships with students takes time. One way to develop relationships with students is by finding time within the classroom to make personal connections with them. I know that this is easier said than done in many cases as the minutes in a class period are so crucial in the learning process. I’m going to provide you with four ways you can use five minutes of class time to help you get to know your students.

Incorporate circles in your classroom—This activity may be a little hard to do within five minutes; however, it is a great way to develop a community within your classroom. It is something that I do at my school and it has really helped with community building in our resource room.

Schedule time for one-on-one engagement—As you begin to get to know your students, you will learn their normal behavior, and if something seems a little off, use those five minutes to see if they will open up to you by letting them know that you care. Then you can offer things like, “Let’s talk more during lunch or after school.” Gestures like these help to develop relationships.

Find out what makes your students unique—You will quickly learn that your classroom is filled with various personalities all meshed into one class. Learning about the different personalities represented in your room will help you gain a better understanding of how students will interact with each other. Understanding personalities will help you when planning group assignments, de-escalating conflicts, and helping students with personal challenges.

  • Make time to show students that you care about what is happening in their lives—I really want to highlight that this doesn’t pertain to just students who appear to be having a bad day. I am also talking about students who appear to be having a good day and those in between.

Don’t give up on any of your students. Get to know them as human beings, as individuals and not just another student. You might find yourself intrigued with all the amazing thoughts and talents that your students have. You may also notice a change in your classroom atmosphere as less instances of student behavior occurs.

Response From Jenny Edwards

Jenny Edwards teaches doctoral students in the School of Educational Leadership and Change at Fielding Graduate University in Santa Barbara, Calif. Edwards is the author of Time to Teach: How do I get organized and work smarter? (ASCD), Inviting Students to Learn: 100 Tips for Talking Effectively with Your Students (ASCD), and Research on Habits of Mind (2014, Institute for Habits of Mind International):

My best tips for managing the classroom come from Michael Grinder (2019). He developed nonverbal methods for managing the classroom. Some of his techniques appear below.

Grinder (2019) recommends that teachers stand in the same place in the classroom, preferably in the front of the room, to get students’ attention. Students will know that when we are there, we will be asking for their attention. They will tend to get quiet as we are moving into place and they are anticipating that we will be calling them together. Grinder recommends asking for their attention when their voices are going down so that they will be more likely to turn and look at us.

As the students’ voices go down, we can raise our hand (B. Garmston, personal communication, June 5, 1997). They know this is the signal for them to also raise their hand, complete their sentence (not their paragraph), and turn toward the teacher. According to Garmston, it is a respectful way to ask for attention.

Grinder (2019) also talks about modulating students’ metabolism. When we are excitable and talking in a loud voice, our students will do the same. According to Grinder, we are raising their metabolism. On the other hand, when we slow our voice down and talk quietly, we can lower their metabolism. I learned this lesson when I was supervising an intern who was teaching 3rd grade. She moved around the room slowly and spoke in a quiet voice. I tend to move more quickly, so I started moving slowly and speaking softly when I entered her room. The change was almost magical.

Grinder (2019) identified two types of voices: the approachable voice and the credible voice. When we use the credible voice, our chin goes up and down, and our palms tend to be up. We bob our head. This is the friendly voice. Teachers of younger students will naturally use more approachable voices than teachers of older students.

When we use the credible voice, the chin stays flat and goes down at the end of what we are saying, and palms are facing down (Grinder, 2019). This is the voice of authority, and our students know we mean what we say. They also know we know what we are talking about.

According to Grinder (personal communication, Sept. 8, 1995), it is important for us to be breathing when we use these voices. If we are upset or holding our breath, the approachable voice can come across as whining. We can come across as being angry when we use the credible if we are holding our breath.

If we can get our students’ attention by using the approachable voice, it is great (Grinder, 2019). We may be able to get their attention with an approachable voice in the morning, while we may need to use the credible voice later in the day. The day before a holiday, we definitely need to use a credible voice.

Grinder (2019) recommended that teachers “go visual.” This means that when we give instructions, we always have them written so that if students have questions, they can look at the board, on the PowerPoint, on the chart paper, or on a piece of paper we give them. He recommended that teachers look at the visual while giving instructions so that students will look there, as well. When a student has a question about the assignment, we can point to the written instructions and look at it. This also helps students to become more independent.

Response From April Croy

April Croy is a lifelong lover of reading and literacy. Formerly a high school English and special education teacher, district K-8 literacy director, and curriculum writer for various publishers, April now works as an editor at Scholastic, creating professional learning content to help support teachers on their own journeys of literacy instruction:

Each classroom has its own identity and culture, one that is developed throughout the year by the teacher and students. These are a few ways to help create an environment where all learners can thrive.

Be clear and consistent

Our brains can only process a certain amount of new content at any one time. During class, we want our students focusing as much on learning new content as possible. We want the flow and function of the classroom to become “muscle memory,” so that students don’t even need to think about what is expected of them and how to behave. To accomplish this, we must set clear expectations so that the rules and procedures fade into the background and become a routine part of engaging in learning.

General best practice recommends three to six classroom rules or procedures, framed in positive language (e.g., “Treat our room with respect” rather than “Don’t be disruptive”). Students should have these rules and procedures available to them visibly at all times. They should also know that your procedures will be implemented all day, every day. Spending time at the beginning of the year teaching, modeling, and practicing examples and nonexamples will help set and maintain behavioral habits throughout the year.

Make every minute matter

A healthy learning environment is often a busy, bustling place, with students moving from one activity to the next. Each time there is a transition between activities, students need to be ready to transition so that they can move from one activity to the next in under a minute. It can be done! Start the school year by practicing transition routines, such as moving from one location to the next in the classroom, handing in papers, or getting materials. Make it a game for students to see how quickly they can complete the transition. Have a visible timer and set the goal for a one-minute (or 30-second!) transition. Some educators find it helpful to use energetic music to get the students moving with efficiency. Flight of the Bumblebee is a popular choice.

Praise the positive

When students are given a task to accomplish, rather than calling out students who are not following procedures, flip your focus and instead verbally recognize students who are correctly following instructions. “I like the way Zane is getting out his book without talking,” or “Shanice is doing an excellent job putting away her writing materials” accomplishes two goals at once: It gives praise to students who are following instructions AND it is a small verbal cue for others to follow suit.

Use nonverbal communication (silent signals)

Teachers are fantastic at multitasking! We have to keep our eye on 25 or more wiggly students at any given time, while still keeping our feet moving in teaching our lessons. To increase the efficiency of your multitasking, incorporate the use of nonverbal communication, both from you and from your students. For students who are struggling to follow instructions, sometimes merely standing next to them or placing a hand on their desk is enough to redirect behavior. A quick nod or shake of the head accompanied by direct eye contact with the student is another way to communicate quickly and effectively. You and your students can also create a system of nonverbal hand signals--asking to go to the bathroom, for a pencil, a tissue, or even signals to thank or show gratitude.

Check for understanding

After giving a set of instructions, it’s a good idea to check to ensure that students correctly heard and understood what is expected. Begin your instructions by letting students know you’re about to explain a process, then will have them repeat it back to you. Share the steps of your process, then call on a student to repeat the expectations and instructions. Ask others in the class to agree or add to what they heard. If students can’t correctly repeat what’s expected of them, it’s time to go back and explain in a different way.

Structure classroom discussions

A trusting, respectful classroom is a two-way street. Set aside time at the end of a week, or twice a month, to gather feedback from students. What’s working for them in the classroom? What areas could be improved? Allow students to self-reflect and evaluate where they can strengthen their participation, then talk about what structures and procedures will best support that effort. For classrooms new to this experience, you may wish to have students complete an independent survey first, to build a sense of safety and security that their answers will be respected and appreciated.

Response From Lori Jackson

Lori Jackson is an educational psychologist who has been working with students and their families for more than 15 years. She is co-founder of The Connections Model , an SEL-focused education technology company whose KidConnect app and curriculum teach kids the fundamentals of emotional regulation, the necessary foundation for all learning. Lori believes that all children have the capacity to succeed in school and the right to a quality education:

A recent Primary Source (2012) survey indicated that 62 percent of teachers said behaviors are interfering with their ability to teach. Wow! That number clearly shows that we are in need of new ways to help support student engagement and overall behavior. When we hear “classroom management,” we often think the educators are the managers. Teachers and related service providers find new techniques and ideas to help kids stay on task. This often involves whole-class behavior-modification programs and different reinforcers to support positive behaviors. For some students, this may mean individualized behavior plans and programs which need to be managed throughout the day. As we know, these often get stale so a great deal of time is given to changing and updating our various modification programs so kids don’t get bored with them. But is this really the best way?

We like to look at the whole concept of classroom behavior from a slightly different vantage point. To do this, we need to change the way we look at behavior in our students. Let’s make the students the classroom managers and teach them how to manage their own behaviors. Here is a three-step plan to student-driven classroom management.

―Teach students about their emotions. When you can’t identify, understand, or manage your own emotions, you are unable to manage your behavior. We make the assumption that students know their emotions. Many don’t or have a limited understanding of them. Explicitly teaching different emotions and giving them context helps kids not only understand how they feel but why.

―Once kids have identified how they feel, they are able to look at how that emotion connects to how they behave. Emotions aren’t always connected to negative behaviors. A student who is excited and unable to focus on a math worksheet can be helped to understand that the feeling of emotion is driving the off-task behavior.

  • Teach Strategies (replacement behaviors) to Manage Emotions ―Once students understand the connection between emotions and behaviors, we can begin to teach them to use different behaviors to manage the emotions that they feel. An anxious student can be taught to get a drink of water instead of wandering around the classroom or climbing under their desk. A frustrated student can be taught to do three jumping jacks when faced with a difficult math problem instead of crumpling her paper and refusing to work.

Using this process, we aren’t teaching kids to manage their behaviors―we are teaching them how to regulate their emotions. In turn, we are giving them the tools to manage themselves in the classroom. That’s classroom management for real. What? You’re suggesting this will take too much time to teach and there is so much else on the plate of our teachers that this isn’t possible? With these strategies, it can be done efficiently, and its importance is undeniable: 62 percent of teachers are saying that behavior is interfering with their ability to teach.

We are already spending time managing behavior, and it isn’t really helping with classroom management. There is a positive impact on everyone w hen we help kids to help themselves . Student-led classroom management takes the same amount of time as a whole-class-management system initially, and then actually takes less time as students learn to manage themselves. It’s time to put the keys to management in the hands of our students.

Response From Shauna Tominey & Megan McClelland

Shauna Tominey, Ph.D, is an assistant professor of practice and parenting education specialist at Oregon State University. She is the principal investigator for the Oregon Parenting Education Collaborative , an initiative to provide high-quality parenting education to families. Previously, Shauna served as the director of early-childhood programming and teacher education at the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence.

Megan McClelland, Ph.D., is the Katherine E. Smith Professor of Healthy Children and Families at Oregon State University (OSU) where she serves as endowed director at the Hallie E. Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families. Her research focuses on optimizing children’s development, especially as it relates to children’s self-regulation, early learning, and school success.

Megan and Shauna are co-authors of Stop, Think, Act: Integrating Self-Regulation in the Early Childhood Classroom available from Routledge and Amazon :

When we think about classroom-management tips, we often think about the role of transitions. Most teachers name transitions as the most challenging part of the day. There are countless transitions across a typical school day, particularly in the early grades, and smoothly navigating transitions is an essential part of effective classroom management.

Teachers and children both play a role in classroom management. Effective teachers help children regulate their behavior by preparing children for transitions and orienting them to where they are going (“Remember when we talked about ...? We’re going to do an activity about... next.”).

For children, an important developmental task is practicing self-regulation so they can effectively manage their emotions and behaviors. Children with strong self-regulation are more successful in school compared with peers who struggle with these skills. Strong self-regulation relates to positive outcomes like better academic achievement, college completion, and stable employment.

There are many ways that educators help children practice these skills while also helping their classrooms run more smoothly. Here are a few of our favorite classroom-management strategies:

Children thrive on routine, and having a consistent pattern from one day to the next helps children know what is coming, supporting their ability to self-regulate. As you plan your schedule, carefully choose activities that match children’s energy levels at different times of day.

Post your classroom schedule where children can see it (include pictures for younger children). Refer to the schedule regularly. In addition, use oral and visual cues to let children know that a transition is coming and explain what is coming next. Dim the lights and turn on soft music before a quiet activity. Turn up the lights and get children moving before outdoor time to help them use their energy outdoors.

Be sure to explain to children what to do (not just what not to do) so that they learn the rules of the classroom and why these rules are important. Place pictures and descriptions around the classroom to help children self-regulate and to remind them of classroom rules and guidelines. Make sure children can reach supplies that they need and keep supplies that they should not have out of reach (e.g., teacher scissors).

Traditional classroom games, such as the Freeze Game (dancing when music plays and freezing when it stops), can be made more complex with a simple twist—dance quickly to fast music, slowly to slow music, and then try doing the opposite! Teach children songs or games that they can sing and play while transitioning or waiting.

Children and adults alike have different emotions throughout the day. These feelings can help children feel safe, supported, and ready to learn or make it hard to focus. Check in with your class as well as with individual children. Ask children how they are feeling, help them name their emotions, and brainstorm strategies to manage different feelings (e.g., “What could you do to help a friend who is feeling sad?”).

Self-regulation is a set of skills that needs to be practiced. If children have a breakdown in self-regulation, talk about it outside of emotionally charged moments (e.g., “It seems like you had a hard time when we had to put materials away. What could we do differently next time that would be helpful?”). Foster supportive relationships by helping children view one another as learners (e.g., “I didn’t like that he pushed you, either. It’s not OK to do that. He is still learning, just like we all are.”).

  • Model your own self-regulation skills. Look for ways that you can model self-regulation throughout the day. As you do, explain what you are doing and why (e.g., “I’m going to stand in line just like you and wait for a turn to wash my hands.”).

These classroom-management strategies can be embedded into any classroom setting to support better classroom management and ultimately strengthen children’s self-regulation.

Response From Keisha Rembert

Keisha Rembert is an 8th grade English and U.S. history teacher at Clifford Crone Middle School in Naperville, Ill. Keisha feeds her love of learning by continually refining her craft and has been the recipient of several grants affording her the opportunity to take courses at some of the world’s most renowned universities. She has recently been named Illinois’ History Teacher of the Year for 2019:

I remember being told that I should not smile the first two weeks of school or the students would eat me alive or something. That’s not who I am. I am relational by nature and I love to laugh and smile. I find students respond more to my smile and laughter than any stern look. I try to praise in public and offer constructive feedback in private. It has worked well for me. Students need and deserve respect, and often once given they reciprocate.

Why We Should Respect Teachers And Why We Must Be Mindfully Careful About What Comes Next For Educators And Education

In Early Childhood Education by mjaudseo March 9, 2021

“Why We Should Respect Teachers and Why We Must Be Mindfully Careful About What Comes Next for Educators and Education”

If the COVID-19 pause has changed anything for the good- I think that many, if not most parents, have gained a newfound respect for teachers as a result of the distance learning that prompted “homeschooling” over the past 7 weeks. Prior to this global crisis, teachers were not generally accepted by society and some parents as professionals working hard each and every day with their students- our children.

Once maligned by far too many people for working “short” days and having summers off, parents now have come to find that teachers work as long and as hard outside of the classroom in preparation, as they do inside the classroom with the variety of learning styles, personalities, needs and differing motivations that children bring into the learning environment each day.

I come from a family full of teachers and educators. My mom was a teacher, I have a daughter and a son who are both Special Education teachers, numerous aunts, sisters-in-law, nieces, and many friends are teachers. Much of my professional life has been spent working with teachers- supporting them and providing training and consultation to them. So it is no wonder that during this week especially- I am profoundly proud and thankful for teachers in my life. Most of us can remember at least one teacher who had a profound effect on our life at some point in our development- someone who had a positive impact on us and made us the person we are today. I call these teachers from our past, “Instruments of Inspiration.”

Yet prior to the COVID interruption teachers in America in too many cases were made to feel belittled, and under-appreciated. In many ways teachers have been vilified- the profession disparaged. This trend in thinking over the past couple of decades has prompted a very real teacher shortage in America- a shortage likely to grow worse over the next decade.

Because of this negative messaging about teachers and the teaching profession, college students are significantly less likely than their parents to see teaching as a viable way to become agents of social change. Of all age groups, voters 18-29 are the most pessimistic about the teaching profession. Only 24 percent are “very likely” to encourage a friend or family member to become a K-12 teacher today.

I recently read an essay on the teaching profession where the researchers were asking people to name another profession which they felt had a comparable status to teaching. In the West, teachers were overwhelmingly thought of in the same status bracket as librarians or social workers. Compare that to China, where teachers were considered to have an equal status to that of doctors.

There is a definitive societal lack of respect for teachers in the West. The media is a huge source of fueling the demise of the teaching profession. When teachers get a mention in the media, they have often been blamed for a vast array of society’s ills: from the loss of manners, to the decline in academic performance, to the shortage of viably trained professionals and vocational workers. My feeling is that this attitude towards teachers is not just morally wrong, it’s sabotaging the education system. If we constantly attack teachers, we will miss out on generations of talented graduates who will not want to join a profession that is constantly derided. The talent pool will be shallow moving ahead in this complex world.

If our culture so richly rewards celebrities, actors, and sports stars, heaping praise and riches on them, why should not outstanding teachers be equally celebrated? The moniker “hero” is thrown around so haphazardly today that we often fail to see the true heroes standing right amongst us- and every teacher that I know has worn that proverbial hero’s cape more than once in some child’s life.

Teachers wear so many hats today in the classroom- they are educator, nurse, counselor, protector, facilitator, monitor…sometimes they provide the only love, structure and encouragement that a child gets. Teachers work countless hours and have sleepless nights with concerns about their student-children that they hold close in their hearts. They are as proud as a child’s parent when celebrating accomplishments and as devastated as a parent when a child is hurt in any way.

If you are still wondering why we should respect teachers- it is because they hold the future in their hands. There was a teacher behind every great inventor, every great philosopher, and every great idea in history. Fierce independent minds – from Nelson Mandela to Steve Jobs – have paid tribute to the influence of a teacher during their early years. Countless future leaders and society contributors will one day credit their teachers as well. If it’s your love of reading, your interest in space, your love of thought and debate- I know that there was a teacher in your past that sparked your interests and fed your self-worth to help make you the adult you are today.

As I look ahead to fiendishly complex challenges of the modern age – from climate change to frenetic technological change to global conflict- and now to the task of re-creating a post COVID world – I know it will require better ideas, and better teachers- now more than ever. Teachers need our respect and they need it every single day. This current generation is in a better place than most of us to reclaim the teaching profession…and they have a chance to remind us what once made teaching beautiful in a million different ways. We have to model that kind of respect for teaching in order for younger students to commit to the profession.

But with my measured optimism, I wrestle with fears that all levels of government will look to recover from the COVID-19 devastation on the backs of schools and teachers. I fear huge funding cuts requiring larger class sizes; I see the number of teachers presently in schools being downsized to save money; I have lived through prior economic downfalls where the first things cut are Kindergarten, sports, music, arts, languages, libraries, before and after school programs and services for children with special needs- all the very things that our children need and deserve.

The COVID pause also showed us the ugly reality that there is little or no equity in the field of education presently. If we choose to repair our economy on the backs of schools, teachers, and our children- this disparity of access to an equal education will simply grow larger- and that in my mind is completely unacceptable. We must demand of our elected officials that schools be fully funded. Our teaching professionals must be given the latitude to come back with ideas from the lessons learned during distance learning to a New Improved Normal for ALL children.

I grow deeply suspicious of governors and other elected officials, not for their call for change, but for implying that classroom instruction may no longer be relevant as a result of our diving into the deep end of distance learning and seeing that it may have select positive benefits for some children. Lessons of how technology can benefit children are wonderful insights, but any educator knows that the magic of learning happens in the face to face connection made between teachers and their students.

I would hope that a lesson learned during this pause is that we need to put more emphasis on educating the “whole child” and let our teachers ply their trade in new re-imagined ways with the support necessary to meet the needs and demands of today’s students. The classroom and the school culture, and the dynamic impact that has on a child’s learning and development cannot be replaced and mimicked in a virtual learning environment! It definitely cannot be substituted in a distance learning platform for children marginalized in any way or for students with special needs. If we return to the old normal or to a diminished emphasis and gutting of education, then the coronavirus taught us nothing about the education process and what is good for our children and our future.I can guarantee you that inequity in education will likely grow wider- and we must shout out loudly as our children’s advocates that it is simply unacceptable!!

We need to respect the teaching profession and teachers because teachers are the architects of the future. I have always believed that every child has two homes- the one they are born into, their biological home and the one they spend 5 ½ hours a day in- their school home. I take great solace in knowing that if for some reason a child’s biological home should fail her in any way- then Thank God that they have their school home providing them the structure, nurturing, learning, acceptance and love that all children deserve as a basic human right as they develop and grow.

Today more than at any other time in our history we must form a coalition of loud voices lead by teachers and including parents, advocates, researchers, academics and government officials to figure out a New Improved Normal for ALL children to return to!

Thank you to the teachers in my life when I was a student- Thank you to the teachers among my family and friends- Thank you to teachers and classroom staff everywhere.

A most respectful THANK YOU during Teacher Appreciation Week [and every day] to our BHSC teachers, teacher assistants, aides, classroom therapists and building principals/leadership. I want you to know that you are appreciated every day of the year. Your personal impact on the children in your learning environments is immeasurable. Trust me on this…I know that teachers do not work for prestige or income – Teachers work hard and teach for the outcome…They work for “their” children’s success and the future. It takes a big heart to help shape little minds…and our classroom staff does it best!

THANKS and Stay Safe, Joe Cozzo

respect for teacher essay

essay respect of teacher

Respect American Teachers

Reflect on the respect that teachers have in American society. In your opinion, do teachers enjoy respect? How may Confucius react to the status and prestige of American teachers? To be a teacher in America is not seen as a competitive career as becoming an attorney or a doctor. Neither does it pay well. In many instances is best to move into management if you want a lucrative career. Superintendents earn higher salaries than teachers. In countries like China, teachers are highly regarded professionals

Disrespectful Behavior In School

feelings of others. Disrespect towards teachers specifically, can present as disruptive and confrontational behavior (McNeely, 2017). For example, a student displaying disrespectful behavior may say that they do not care about the lesson, or say that their teacher is stupid. Students may exhibit disrespectful behaviors for several reasons. One of these reasons being that they lack an understanding of respect and have limited experiences with receiving or showing respect (Borba, 2017). It is important to

Respect's Role In A Functional Classroom

For a functional classroom, respect must play a large role. While there are many aspects of respect, three major roles needed are respect of students, respect of teachers, and respect of property. First, in a functional classroom there must be a respect of the students from the teacher. As according to Dr. Seuss, “A person’s a person no matter how small.” By respecting their students, a teacher is more likely to have a positive response in their classroom environment, leading to less classroom issues

Elementary Standards Of Respect Essay

the most important tasks that teachers have as educators is to teach students about the importance of respect. For elementary students, respect can be defined as how a student treats another student or how one feels about another student. It is imperative for students to know that they can have respect for each other, as well as for themselves. Teaching respect at such a young age can be as simple as the teacher modeling what respect is and why it is important to respect one another. By the time students

Nine Characteristics Of Creating An Environment Of Mutual Respect

mutual respect. No matter the age of the student, they know if the teacher respects them or not. If a teacher does not respect the students as individuals and respect their thoughts, opinions, and beliefs, the student will in turn not respect the teacher. As a result there will be little to no learning occurring in this teacher's class. The other characteristic that is important to me is about maintaining professionalism at all times. Teachers are examples

Introduction The cultural environment of a school can speak louder than any words. The culture of the school is the life force that keeps the school moving forward and in the right direction. Fostering a Positive Learning Environment:

Respect between students and teachers creates a positive learning environment. Mentors and Role Models:

Teachers often transcend their roles as mere educators; they become mentors and role models. When students honor and appreciate their educators, they are more likely to actively engage in the educational process. The joy of discovery and the pursuit of knowledge become intrinsic motivations, leading to a more profound and lasting impact on the students’ educational journey.

Building a Foundation for a Respectful Society:

Respect for teachers lays the foundation for a respectful and harmonious society. As students learn to value and honor their educators, they internalize the importance of respect in all interpersonal relationships. This core value extends beyond the classroom, shaping individuals who contribute positively to their communities and workplaces, fostering a culture of mutual understanding and cooperation.

Conclusion:

In the intricate tapestry of education, respect for teachers is a golden thread that binds the learning community together. By recognizing the pivotal role teachers play, students not only enhance their educational experiences but also contribute to the creation of a respectful and enlightened society. As we navigate the realms of knowledge, let us continue to honor the guiding lights of our educational journeys, for in doing so, we forge a path towards a brighter and more harmonious future.

Introduction:

Teachers are the ones who play a very vital role in shaping our future. From the Pre-Kinder Garden to your Post-Doctoral fellowships, they teach, impart knowledge, share ethical values, and imbibe morality, thereby shaping our personality as a strong one.

My Teacher:

Throughout our lives, we will be having many kith and kins who will hold a special place in our hearts. For me, one such person is my teacher. All of us, for sure, will definitely agree to the fact that the kinship between us and our kinder garden teachers could not be well-defined. I like my nursery teacher, so much. There is something very magical about her. Maybe, she was the first teacher in my life or maybe, she was very sweet in talking to all of us, I am unable to portray why she is always my favourite. I relied on her blindly.

Unforgettable Memories:

I have some cherished memories with my teacher. Whenever I think of those memories, it makes me blissful. On the last day of my nursery school, I started crying at the very thought of leaving her and having a new teacher. I had fallen sick due to crying for hours together. I skipped my food. My parents were not able to do anything. They called for her to make me feel better. My teacher travelled a few miles across the city and reached the hospital. She, then, said that she would never forget any of her students and asked me to write to her. I started writing to her every week from then on and she replied to every letter of mine. Till date, I look at my teacher as my second mother and she guides me in all my difficult situations.

Conclusion:

Having a good teacher who can share an amalgamated relationship with the students is a boon. A good teacher should be a good mentor, a philosopher, a guide, a friend and above all a surrogate parent to the children. I am lucky that I had gotten one in my lifetime.

My favorite subject is English and my most favorite teacher is Chitra Ma’am. She teaches us English. She likes me a lot and appreciates my hard work. She joined our school one year ago. Before that, I was not so good at English. But after attending her classes, we have all become much better at this subject.

I like her for many reasons. First of all, she teaches the lessons in a very interesting way. Even when we have doubts or questions, she never gets upset with us. Her best quality is her loving nature. She would come to school daily without missing a day.

Her dressing sense is nice. She wears simple salwar suits. She always speaks to her students softly and respectfully. I eagerly wait for her class and do my English homework on time. Chitra Ma’am puts a lot of effort in explaining every chapter.

There are many activities given at the end of every lesson and she makes us participate in all of them. Not only that, but she also encourages us to take part in drama and poem competitions. Since her first day, she made a rule for us.

All of us has to speak in English during the English period. Every student tries to talk in English even if the sentence sounds improper. She has taught us to never laugh at each other’s mistakes. This has improved our spoken English in a great way. Now, we are able to talk in English with more confidence.

Another great quality of hers is that she treats every child equally. After explaining the lesson to us, she asks each one of us different questions about the chapter. Sometimes, we also love to talk about our personal lives, like what do we like about our lives, how our parents work hard for us, and things like that.

When we get confused or need an emotional support, she is the best person to talk to. Her advice and suggestions are always positive. Last month, on teacher’s day, all the students wished her and brought presents for her. We also sang a song to her.

I made a beautiful greeting card for her and a red rose with it. She accepted it with a smile and thanked us for everything. I feel grateful to have such a gentle and great teacher in my life who supports me in every way.

In school, you tend to interact with a lot of people who can either impact your life positively or negatively. A teacher is one neutral person who will manage to strike a balance between the positive and the negative. Teachers have a huge responsibility that we students may not understand. All in all our teachers try their best to provide an education, guidance and discipline despite the challenges we might impose on them. The life of a student is entirely dependent on a teacher because most of their time is spent in school rather than with parents that is why teachers play a major role in shaping the lives of young children through school.

Who Is my favourite Teacher?

I have several teachers now that I am in high school but there is only one whom I can relate to as “the teacher” because of the impact he has made in my life. The teacher is male, of Indian origin and has a funny accent when he speaks. He is married and has three children. Actually, one of his children is my age and I know him through tennis practice because he comes to train with us sometimes. I like him because his sense of humor gives a good learning experience for the students. He is a math teacher and he is very good at what he does. Students tend to make fun of him because of his accent but he make fun of it himself, which gets even funnier. This teacher has been a great mentor to me and other student ever since we joined high school. I met him on a personal level one day after class when I needed clarification on a topic I had not quite understood. The teacher was kind to me and guided me through it. Since then, he took his own initiative to do follow-ups on me and I became really good in math due to his efforts.

Coincidentally, he also coaches my tennis team and we meet out on the field. We have won several awards as a tennis team under him. I feel connected to the teacher through his mentorship and he has become like a school parent to me because whenever I have an issue, he is free to help me out.

How the teacher has impacted my life in school .

Mentorship goes along way depending on the approach used. When I first joined high school, I did not have much confidence in myself. This teacher mentored me and made me believe in myself. The good thing is the attention he gives t is students because most of the times, he follows up on the performances and ensures that he does everything he can to help students improve academically. He has also been a role model to me through his way of doing things. He is dedicated to his work and he is an achiever. Through following his footsteps, I have been able to dedicate myself into studies and sports, which has helped me to achieve my goals.

In conclusion, good teachers are hard to find but when you find one, make the most out of them.

The word “teacher” depicts a person that teaches. English dictionary defines teacher as “a person who teaches, especially one employed in a school”. A more recent definition of teacher in the linguistics field is “a tutor that interacts with the learners in order to facilitate good learning”.

Types of Teachers

Old method teachers: the teachers found under this method adopt the rigid mode of impartation of knowledge. They control the class the way a king would rule over his subjects. Old method teachers are less concerned about the welfare of their learners, they are syllabus-oriented.

New method teachers: the tutors under this model are student-oriented. They are more concerned about their learners and their various levels of understanding. They accept and promote contributions in class unlike the old method teachers. New method teachers encourage the inquisitiveness of their students.

Attributes of a Teacher:

A standard teacher has all or most of the various characters imbedded in them:

  • Compassionate
  • Open-minded
  • A good counselor
  • Friendly and most importantly
  • Approachable.

Attributes of My Favorite Teacher:

Personally, I see my teacher as a mini-god because he leaves his mark on me. He influences my life in ways that enables me affect changes wherever I find myself.

He is a perfect example of the new model teachers. Basically, he is student-oriented. In the classroom, he employs the Eclectic mode of teaching (this is the combination of all the modes of teaching “discussion mode, play way mode, role play mode, question mode” so as to facilitate standard learning).

He comes into the classroom; starts the lecture with a recap of what was discussed in the previous class, gives room for the students to ask questions that arose from the last class, answers them and then starts a new topic.

To start a new topic, he starts with a mind-capturing introduction that attracts the attention of all students. Once he is through with introducing the topic, he gauges our reaction in order for him to know if his students are on the same page with him or left behind.

Then, he moves on to the discussion mode of teaching, whereby he throws questions to his students and accommodates both relevant and irrelevant answers, at the end of this model, he sieves through the answers provided, pick the relevant ones and add his own iota to it, he also always applaud the courage of all who answers his questions.

He moves either into the role play method or the play way method, here he selects students to either act out the lessons from the day’s topic or summarizes what he has taught for the day. The use of this particular mode enlightens the students more on the topic being discussed.

Finally, he moves over to the questions and revision mode, where he personally go through all he has taught over the course of the period. During this mode, he entertains questions from students on their personal areas of difficulties. Occasionally, he gives assignments to back up his teachings.

During his teachings, he pays close attention to the expression, mood, sitting posture and carriage of his students. This tells him when his students are lost, sad, worried, hungry, sick, away in dream land or simply tired.

Once he is done processing the information gotten from our faces, he either finds a way of brightening the mood of his students, bringing them back from the dream world, or ending his class without breaking his stride or alerting the whole population of students to what is currently going on.

It is only normal for a human being to reflect his mood whenever he is talking or interacting, but my teacher hardly ever allow his bad, horrible moods interfere with his teachings.

Outside the classroom, my teacher is approachable, fatherly, and jovial. He entertains all and no one is excluded from his open arms, smiles and affections.

He is a good counselor who is always ready to help me out of my tight corners. He gives twenty first century advises in a fatherly way.

Although, due to my teachers lenient ways with students, some students tend to be lazy, disrespectful, stubborn or rude. He has a way of being firm, maintaining class control while teaching.

In conclusion, my teacher has all the attributes and more of a new method teachers. He is capable of combining all modes of teaching, he is compassionate, passionate, and friendly. From my interactions with him, I can confidently say that he is one of the best teachers around.

A teacher plays a very important life in shaping your life as well as career. A good teacher is a blessing for the students in their early years and helps them understand the world; learn moral values along with education. My Teachers, My Role Models

During my formative years, I have come across many teachers who have influenced my life for the better. Having being studies in a convent school, I got to face a much-disciplined environment during my school years. The teachers, although were very polite in their behaviour, at the same time ensuring that we all followed a disciplined life. We were taught how to inculcate these values in our daily life so as to be better human beings when we grow up and face the world. Although all the teachers were good, there is one teacher whose teachings I just cannot forget. She is Ms Kirti Bhushan. Her teachings have been so powerful and impactful that I can still feel them during my day to day decisions even today.

My Best Teacher

Ms Kirti was my class educator as well and took participation in the daily activities with us as well. She was a strict instructor anyway extremely amusing and mind in nature. At the same time, she was extremely restrained and dependable. She did her work perfectly with the class at a perfect time without getting late. I liked her, particularly as she attempted simple approaches to show us beneficial things. We made the most of her class. She taught us English subject as well. She even made us giggle by telling heaps of jokes in the middle of when she taught. She likewise managed us exceptionally well amid any school or between school rivalry of the move, sports, scholastic, and so on. She instructed us to share things in class among our associates, for example, lunch or other required things.

Her Background

She was from Varanasi and completed her initial studies there itself. She took her higher education degrees from the Banaras Hindu University. She was extremely friendly and kind in nature. She realized well about how to deal with little youngsters in the class. Her one of a kind style of educating is perhaps what I mostly recall her for. I even meet her at times at whatever point I have to explain some intense inquiries of my day to day issues, she advises me so easily and comfortably. She looks extremely savvy with shimmer eyes and fair hair.

Her Smiling Attitude

She generally smiled when she entered the classroom and first got some information about our prosperity. She additionally helped us in the games at whatever point our games instructor was missing. She had a smiling face even during the strict environment during the examination times. She constantly rebuffed to the students who were with fragmented home works. She was acclaimed for making loads of fun amid the class time and ensure there was a positive ambience all around.

She was an instructor with great aptitudes of educating, well-disposed nature, great comical inclination, understanding and nice. I am proud to be one of her favourite students, as she always said good things about me to other teachers. At times she gave us chocolates on doing great in the class tests and exams. Why Respecting Students Is Essential for Teacher Effectiveness

Respecting students is essential for boosting teacher effectiveness. It seems today that the media jumps at every opportunity to showcase an educator who has made a poor decision in judgment. One of the most prevalent issues highlighted is that of a teacher continuously berating or disrespecting a student or group of students. This type of behavior is unacceptable. All educators expect their students to be respectful to them, but some fail to realize that this is a two-way street. All educators should show their students respect at all times including tense moments of conflict.

Conduct a search on Google or YouTube for “teacher abuse” and the number of examples you will find of such unprofessional conduct is embarrassing to the profession. Educators should be adult enough, professional enough, and smart enough not to conduct themselves in this manner. In an age where every student has a cell phone , it only takes one time to find yourself on YouTube, embarrassed, and out of a job. Teachers must think before they react and choose their words carefully.

How to Build Strong, Trusting Student-Teacher Relationships

Sometimes we forget where many of these students come from and the situations that they deal with on a daily basis. School should be a safe haven and kids should trust all of their administrators, teachers, and staff members. Every kid is different and these differences should be embraced. If all kids were the same our jobs would be boring. It is important to realize that there are tremendous differences between each individual student and with each individual class. A 3rd grader cannot handle what a 6th grader can handle and so on.

Try to have patience and understanding when dealing with a student. Before you say anything, take a deep breath, think about your response, and choose your words carefully. Your tone matters as much as what you say.

We expect our students to be respectful to us and we should, in turn, be respectful to them at all times. This isn’t always easy, but you must always handle interactions with students in a positive manner. You should never berate or embarrass a student. It is best to address them separately from the class. The key is to talk to them, not down to them.

Kids are going to make mistakes. It would be ignorant to think that they won’t. You are setting yourself and them up for failure if you do. There is a difference between having high expectations and having unrealistic expectations. Preconceived notions can and will destroy a relationship with a student. Everyone deserves a second chance. Allow someone this chance and you will find that they will surprise you more often than not.

Educators should always strive to build positive, trusting relationships with their students . Some of these relationships take time to build and others are relatively easy. Respect is always the key. A teacher becomes so much more effective when they can earn a classes respect.

Reasons Why Teachers Lose the Respect of Their Students

There are several things that a teacher can do to lose their students’ respect. Doing any of these things can lead you on a path towards disaster. It is best to avoid the following practices:

  • Never treat students differently based on personal interests.
  • Do not create rules that can be perceived as unfair.
  • Never misuse your authority.
  • Do not ignore a student.
  • Never avoid smiling and being friendly with your students.
  • Do not yell or scream.
  • Do not have a negative attitude on a consistent basis.
  • Do not be afraid to apologize or admit when you make a mistake.
  • Never become friends with students when they are in your class.
  • Never give control over to your students.
  • Do not be hypocritical.
  • Do not say anything that you would not want to be recorded and played back.
  • Do not humiliate or berate students in an attempt to get them to behave.
  • Never use sarcasm.
  • Do not use profanity.
  • Do not violate a student’s personal space.
  • Do not gossip , discuss, or complain about other teachers in front of your students.
  • Never issue vindictive or counterproductive threats.
  • Do not hold things against a student that is beyond their control.

How Teacher Can Earn Their Students' Respect

There are several things that a teacher can do to earn their students’ respect. Doing these things will lead you on a path toward mutual respect and it will maximize a teacher’s overall effectiveness. It is best to engage in the following practices:

  • Have a Positive Attitude: An educator who has a positive attitude toward their students and their job will be more effective. All of us have bad days, but we should still strive to remain positive even on our worst days.
  • Be Consistent: Students must know what your expectations are on a daily basis. Be inconsistent will lose their respect and attention faster than just about anything.
  • Be Fair: Treat every student the same when dealing with the same situation. Giving out a different set of consequences for the same actions will undermine your authority.
  • Have a Sense of Humor: Having a sense of humor can be disarming. Students will naturally look forward to coming to your class and learning if they know that you aren’t uptight and rigid.
  • Be Flexible: Teachers that aren’t flexible are setting themselves and their students up for failure. Things happen in life that is beyond anyone’s control. Be sensitive to every situation and be willing to adapt and veer from your scheduled plans when necessary.

Why To Respect Our Teachers?

Why-Respect-Teachers

Firstly, Why should we respect our teachers? I would like to quote – “IF YOU CAN READ THIS, THANK YOUR TEACHER”.

There is an old saying, KI MAIN BHAGWAAN SE PEHLE  APNE TEACHER KO PRANAAM KARUNGA, KYUNKI USI NE MUJHE BHAGWAAN KE BAARE MEIN BATAYA HAI.

Who is a teacher?

A Teacher is a person who teaches, especially in a school. A teacher is called by different names more popularly as Guru, Madam, Sir. Especially, a teacher is a mentor , guide who teaches us, educate us and provide us with knowledge. The teacher makes all the efforts to educate us and provide knowledge to us.

Not to mention, a teacher is our second parent . The teacher nurtures in the same way our parents do. Only a teacher can love and care like a parent. He/She raises the children like their own and goes the extra mile to educate us. They are the providers of knowledge to us.

The word teacher is very synonymous with everyone’s lives. We all have been taught by teachers. We all value our teachers and know their importance in our lives. Does everyone agree with this statement?

The reason we are today, what all we have gained in the passing years, all the knowledge, values, teachings have been propagated by our teachers. They taught us not only how to read and write, but also to be able to distinguish between right and wrong. Further, they taught us the way of life, the path to follow and how to succeed in our lives.

The teachings of a teacher are valuable and are nourished although our lives.

It remains with us forever and become lessons to apply. The great saints and people were teachers, be it Lord Mahavira or Lord Buddha. They all taught and preached good values that have become principles of our lives.

We do follow them. Shri Krishna acted as a teacher to Arjun and gives him gyaan that made him succeed in the battle of Mahabharata. That is the impact of a teacher in our lives.

What makes a teacher a good teacher?

It takes a lot of effort, patience to teach. Not every teacher is a great teacher, Only a few are. Have you wondered what makes a teacher a good teacher? Every teacher teaches, educates and imparts knowledge. Yes, every teacher teaches us, but a good teacher makes you understand, makes you a skilled person and not just knowledgeable.

Indeed, a good teacher sees the potential in you and tries to refine it and make you shine like a bright star.  It is not easy to be a teacher and it is not at all easy to be a good teacher. Every one of us has our own set of good and favorite teachers, what makes them so special to you is not just their teachings, but their qualities, their uniqueness that captured your hearts.

A teacher tries to mold you into a better person. It shapes your career, thinking, life everything. Remember the first day of school?

Those apprehensions, fear of parting ways from our parents, crying for not going to school. But soon those four walls and a huge building become our second home.

The reason it becomes so lovable to all is because of the presence of the teacher. A Teacher likes a figure who accepted us and welcomed us with both the arms, who made us feel comfortable like our own home, loved and cared for us like our parents. Soon Teachers turn into friends that are precious to us.

I can never thank enough to all my teachers for their constant support and guidance. What I am today is because of the teachings of my teacher. I can write a thesis on their importance in our lives.

This is the reason, they earn our respect.

The reasons why to respect teachers

1. they are elder to us.

Firstly, our teachers are elder to us. They are like our parents. We must respect them as we do for our parents.

2. They educate us

Secondly, the teacher educates us, provide knowledge to us as no one else does. They taught us how to read and write.

3. They guide you

Thirdly, teachers are also mentors, who always guide what is right and wrong. They are the best guide for our lives.

4. They love and Care for you

Fourthly, Teachers love and care for us like our parents. There love is unconditional and cannot be reciprocated.

5. They always think good for you

Lastly, After your parents, Your teachers are the one who always thinks good for you, they always want their students to be happy and successful.

Short Paragraph on Respect for Teachers

essay respect of teacher

Here is your short paragraph on Respect for Teachers !

We must respect our teachers. Teachers play a vital role in our lives as students. After our parents it’s our teachers who shape our lives by educating us and inculcating good moral values in us.

Teachers are agents of change. They counsel their students and help them to choose their careers that best suit their interest.

Teachers can make a good difference among successful students & unsuccessful one; among those who loves to read & write & one who doesn’t.

ADVERTISEMENTS:

A good teacher can convert a dull student into a brilliant one. Its teachers who are given credit by the parents when their children passes exam with distinction marks. In spite of such a meaningful role of teachers, some students insult them, curse them, throw tantrums or even attack them when they punishes them for wrong doings.

Now day’s students fail to understand the importance of a teacher. Teachers are like parents and must be given the same respect as we give to our parents. Instead students give them all kinds of names to humiliate them. Teachers are not given the respect that they deserve in our society. A teacher is solely responsible if a child and scores good percentage in school.

Students must understand that if they teachers punish them it’s for their own personal growth not the teacher’s growth. Stop treating your teachers as your enemies. You must learn to respect your teachers & make them your friends.

Ways to show respect towards your teachers:

I. Pay attention towards what is taught in the class room.

II. Don’t talk with your partners in between the lectures.

III. Don’t talk in between while the teacher is talking to you or anybody else in the class room.

IV. Do your homework regularly on time.

V. Be punctual to attend the lectures.

VI. Don’t sleep in the class room.

VII. Don’t talk bad things behind the back of your teacher.

VIII. Follow the instructions carefully and attentively.

IX. Help your teachers when asked or needed.

X. Work diligently.

XI. Cooperate with your teachers.

XII. Accept challenges willingly.

XIII. Perform well in exam and make your teachers proud because teachers work hard to teach you.

XIV. Pass a smile and greet your teachers well while they enters the class room as it can really make them feel good to see their student smiling & not unhappy to see them inside the class room.

At situations even parents tend to bash teachers when they child fail to secure good scores in exams instead of praising them. They think that teachers don’t work hard to reach their standards. They must understand that it’s really challenging for teachers to reach each and every child.

It takes a lot of efforts to prepare lessons, check home works, conduct extra sessions and correct exam papers. Teachers always try their best to produce happy, intelligent and healthy human beings.

The Importance Of Respect For Students

essay respect of teacher

Show More I believe that a teacher needs to have respect for his/her students in order to earn respect back from them. Growing up, we are all told the same thing, we have to respect our teachers. Even if you do not like them they are the adult and youth are obligated to respect someone that is older, and has power. This entry level respect only goes so far. If students only have respect for a title, then the teacher has not created a successful learning environment. When I was in high school student, school came extremely easy to me. To fill a spot in my schedule, I was placed into a peer mentoring program. This meant I would be placed in either an eighth, or ninth grade class, and be a teacher’s aide for a block. Since the program was for upperclassmen, and I was a sophomore I was thrown into a lower level class; with the “bad kids.” …show more content… My senior year of high school I was part of an internship program, and was placed in a 5th grade math class. If those little demons smell blood, they will eat you alive. My advisor let me do a lot with the kids the kids, and I was scared at first. The students could tell and they walked all over me. My advisor pulled me aside, and said I needed to be confident when teaching the students. If you show you are in charge they will listen. As time went on I got more comfortable in the classroom, and more engaged with the students. The students were excited for math class, because Mr. Nick was their teacher. If you have respect for yourself, and your abilities as a teacher, the easier it is to connect with students, and it makes it easier to get students to connect with the subject. Having basic respect for people is the key to everything. If you can have respect for students, no matter what their history, makes it easier to connect with students. For a teacher to be able to do their job the best they can, they need to have respect for students, and

Themes In The Other Wes Moore

Respect as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary is stated as “a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something, elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements.” Respect is something you cannot teach through words, it is something you earn. After reading Wes Moore’s The Other Wes Moore I believe that success or failure in life is not a result of where you grow up, the education you receive or even the genes you are born with. Success in life comes from instilling virtuous qualities from those you respect and exemplifying them in your own life.…

Mathew Miller Teachers

In the article, “A New Deal for Teachers,“ by Mathew Miller, he argues that low income families with students from fourth grade through eighth grade show significantly lower tests scores compared to students from high income areas. This problem Miller addresses, is that there are not enough good teachers in poor cities, and not enough teachers willing to continue their jobs as teachers. Another argument Miller indicates is that having a good quality teacher makes a huge difference in the child’s education and overall development. Miller says that teachers, who do not care about their students and their performance, result in students doing poorly in class academics. One way to resolve these problems is to raise the wages for the teachers, but base salary upon performance and educational background.…

Liberty High School: Personal Narrative Analysis

A new journey in my life began on August 13th, 2014 as my school principal cut the red ribbon celebrating the opening of a brand new high school. Little did I know, it would become a journey of growth and unique experiences unlike any before it, further refining and adding to my inner sculpture of identity and talent. I was going to Liberty High School, therefore it was necessary that I adapt--quickly, yet strategically. Throughout my life, I had never imagined that my high school experience would reach and exceed my expectations in the way that it did. I had the unique opportunity most people don’t get in life: to be part of a grassroots movement in establishing a culture that would enrich future students with tradition and values for many years to come.…

Dorothy Roberts Reflection

Over this semester I think one of the most eye opening things we talked about was how women were uneducated but were the primary educators. This is crazy for me to think about, because they were expected to teach the children about everything that was going on. This also shows how much education has evolved since then. I think that it is our responsibility as teachers to the students to teach them about the issues, this can mean using other sources besides the textbook to teach the students. There are certain chunks of our history as a country that is left out in many textbooks, they try to make it seem like they are less terrible that how they really are.…
