Essay on Fashion

500+ words essay on fashion.

Fashion is one of the most talked-about industries in today’s world. Fashion can be defined as anything that becomes admirable among the masses. It is a popular aesthetic expression. Fashion is related to clothing, hairstyle, makeup, accessories, footwear and lifestyle. People want to distinguish their personalities from others with their style quotient. Like every new year, fashion also comes and goes. The latest fashion will be more fashionable and colourful than last year.

New trends in fashion influence people of all ages. There is a tremendous amount of competition between the industry and consumers. Different cultures and nationalities have different styles of fashion. Due to this reason, it is always fascinating to travel to various parts of the world to observe how people dress in those countries. Now, clothes have become one of the main reasons to express themselves instead of merely covering their body.

Different people need different styles and designs for their uniqueness and personality before wearing that specific fashion design. This essay will talk more about fashion history, importance and trends.

History of Fashion

Fashion is all about the history of people. For thousands of years, people have loved fashionable clothing. Clothes, from the early days of Egypt, have become our expression. We can see fashion worn in various civilisations throughout history, documents, drawings, and other archaeological findings. Eastern neighbours influenced clothes of different styles worn by the Greeks. Both males and females used to wear thick woollen long dresses.

During ancient times, Egyptians used to wear light cotton clothing, and Egyptian women wore long, ready-made clothes. Later on, the Romans dominated the most significant example of fashion and style.

When people started migrating to Europe, accordingly, the style changed. To keep themselves warm, women used to wear warm clothes and men plain and armour clothes.

Since there were not enough raw materials to produce new clothes for people who migrated to America in that era, dresses were ordered and sent to the oceans by ships to cope with the demand. Suits with leggings were men’s attire, and women wore long clothes and hats on their heads. Over time, the form of the dresses transferred from voluminous dresses into soft, frequent, high-waisted skirts.

Women’s skirts were shorter and thinner at the beginning of the century. Trousers of men slowly went from ankle to knee-length. During the World Wars, women’s style transformed into shorter skirts below the knee.

The ‘80s brought significant trends related to fashion and hairstyles for both genders. The transitional fashion period is from the sixties and seventies. During this time, women wearing trousers became acceptable.

From the 20th century to the 21st century, fashion change continued, and still today, it is evolving.

Fashion Trend

When we talk about influencing fashion, political influencers play a vital role. There are a lot of instances where politicians become fashion symbols, like Princess Diana and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. Political revolutions also left a significant impact on fashion trends.

Technology is another significant factor that influences fashion. The fashion industry saw rapid growth in technology such as 3D printing technology, wearable technology, etc. The Internet also affects fashion trends.

People are influenced by their favourite stars, influencers, etc. The strongest influencers in the field of fashion are social media influencers. Young stars try to emulate the fashion styles of their loved celebrities. For example, hoodies came into fashion due to rap musicians. Television and movie stars also influence fashion trends.

It’s entirely up to you to be fashionable; it shouldn’t be forceful, and it is your own decision what you want to follow. Our fashion sense also reflects our culture. It makes our life colourful and adds variety to life, providing an opportunity to try out something new. Though this time of the 21st century in India, most people are influenced by the style of fashion, they have not forgotten our traditions and culture, which are the priority and symbol of our country.

Introduction

Fashion is a non-verbal way of communication that conveys a lot about the person’s personality, background and style. Earlier it was exclusively the world of the affluent, celebrities and royalty. However, fashion is now within the reach of the common man, especially the youth. Besides, dress fashion is an evolution of ideas, which begins as a fad, but in course of time gets accepted in society as a style, which could be in attire, behaviour or lifestyle. Fashion is mostly associated with glamour. It makes people feel confident and bold. People can express themselves openly. Today fashion is not limited to western countries; now, every country has come out with their fashion sense, not only the clothing but the accent of that country, the living style.

Vedantu experts have crafted an essay on fashion that covers its significance and how it reflects in your personality. This essay has promoted the thought perfectly that fashion is also about carrying yourself in society without having an attractive or trendy attire.  It is about being comfortable with yourself and not being a doppelganger of another person.

Why is Fashion Important?

Fashion is important because it reflects the culture of a country. It makes our life colourful and changes our life with time. In a way it also adds variety to life, providing an opportunity in trying out something new. Fashion is not only limited to clothing or makeup but in a much broader sense includes accessories like shoes, perfume, hairstyle, mannerism, etiquette and attitude towards life. Fashion is not restricted to self-expression only but also a means of self-empowerment and confidence. It encompasses the total spectrum of human activity, which relates to a specific period. It is an outlook of life.

Fashion is how you carry yourself in society without wearing anything trendy. It is how you attempt to make yourself look flawless even without any make-up. It helps you in revealing your true identity.

Evolution of Fashion

The world of fashion is always evolving.  It is amazing to see how the different events in history have influenced and changed the way people dressed and looked throughout time. Thus long dresses, veiled headgear that was trends of the Victorian era, have been replaced with micro and mini dresses and the jeans culture associated with the modern era.

From the 1920s to the 1990s fashion just not changed in clothing but also in accessories, footwear and hairstyles. The trends of wearing hats, carrying purses, shoes and men wearing long ties and bows have been continuously changing with periods, occasions and culture.

Hairstyles also have been changing throughout time. Short boyish haircuts were popular during the 1920s to 1940s. Wigs were more popular in the 1960s and thereafter hairstyles kept changing from short to bob cut then to mid-back cut and now maintaining long hair.

Fashion Industry

As fashion evolved, the industry was formulated to manage the process for the consumers. The fashion world has given shape to a new industry, the ‘Fashion Industry’.

The fashion industry was created to design, manufacture and market clothes, footwear and accessories. Before creating the apparel industry, people made clothes for themselves. The mass production of clothing began in the mid-nineties when some creators began to make garments that did not require any fitting session with the tailors. The fashion industry in its true sense was established in the twentieth century when the neighbourhood tailors decided to become the manufacturing business.

Fashion impacting the Youth

The positive side of fashion is it enhances your life. It not only allows you to dress fashionably but also allows being independent in thinking and maintaining self-esteem. At the same time, fashion is negatively impacting the youth. It has taken up the life of the youth so much that the youngsters are highly obsessed with creating style statements at an age where they need to focus on their studies and other important aspects of life. The fashion trend has become a cult with today’s generation. They blindly try to imitate the models and celebrities without understanding the true essence of fashion.

The Evolution of Modern Fashion

The evolution of modern fashion is marked by a shift from conformity to individuality. In the early 20th century, fashion was largely dictated by social class and occasion. Today, however, fashion is more about personal style and comfort. The advent of fast fashion, while controversial, has democratized style, making it accessible to people of all socio-economic backgrounds.

Global Influences and Cultural Fusion

Modern fashion is a melting pot of global influences. Designers are increasingly drawing inspiration from different cultures, leading to a fusion of styles. English Essay on “Changing Fashion” English Essay-Paragraph-Speech for Class 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 CBSE Students and competitive Examination.

Changing Fashion Formula

In an effort to define fashion, Henry Fielding. a famous British Playwright once said, “Fashion is the science of appearance and it inspires one with the desire to seem, rather than be.” He couldn’t have put it better. Fashion is really all about showcasing oneself as one would like to be perceived by others. Changing fashion was initially restricted to the West but today it is practiced with much gusto the world over, especially among urban populations. The history of change in fashion can be traced back to the early eighth century in Spain. Ziryab, a famous musician and stylist migrant from Baghdad, sowed the first seed of fashion in Europe. He created a sophisticated clothing line based on seasonal and daily timings. Clothes for winter were made of warm cotton or wool and were in dark colours so they could retain heat; while clothes for summer were made of light fabrics like flax and cotton in colours that reflected light. Ziryab was probably one of the first to suggest different clothing for mornings, afternoons and evenings.

Fashion keeps changing all the time. Following fashion trends is really tedious for the common man who spends all his waking hours labouring to put food on his plate and to have a roof over his head. Following fashion can help improve one’s appearance and also boost one’s self-confidence. While the right outfit could minimize your flaws and highlight your positive features, it can also affect the way you are perceived by others. The constant change in fashion is probably one of the many negative aspects of capitalism because it urges people to buy things unnecessarily and persuades them to buy recklessly. Changing fashion is probably fueled by the fact that consumers see the constant change as a means to satisfy their desire to experience something new and different. Shoppers get trapped in the vicious circle of constantly replenishing their wardrobes. After all, the retail segment stands to gain only if it is able to keep churning out new styles. The rate at which clothes get outdated is directly proportional to the money the fashion house makes. The unsuspecting and naive consumer gets lured into buying clothes just to keep up-to-date.

Fashion for most people is about using clothes and accessories to either highlight or hide something about themselves. Fashion is also about making statements. It serves as an extension of one’s personality. You can be identified by the clothes you choose to wear. What you wear could convey a liberal lifestyle, a personal cause, a political view or even a rejection of society. Outrageous as these styles may seem, there is usually a relatively high level of compliance within the group. Many times those who do not subscribe to a group’s ideals are attracted to the style. There is something positive about changing fashion comfort. Changing fashion has meant that lots of money is dedicated to fabric research. Clothes that are wrinkle free, water resistant are just a few of the things that changing fashion has made possible. Garments made from fabrics that allow for sweat to dry faster, fabrics that don’t stick to ones body, fabrics that stretch; have revolutionized sport. Warm clothes in winter when the temperatures outside are freezing is one of the many gifts of changing fashion. Change in fashion styles has allowed for leggings to be worn in winter and shorts to be worn in summer.

The changing formula has also meant that we can walk better, run better, dance better and swim better too, thanks to clothes that are tailor-made to specifications. Changing fashion is about wearing something new to boost your self-confidence, about wearing something in style to be able to conform to your surroundings, it is about comfort or making a statement, but sometimes it is just about spending away the millions you have stashed away.

Fashion is anything that becomes a rage among the masses. We see different fashion trends pouring in and taking the market by storm. Clothing is especially one such arena that sees changing fashion trends that are followed by vast number of people.

People these days love to dress up well in order to look presentable in the society. To keep up with the changing times, people upgrade their style according to the latest trend in the market.

Women are particularly inclined towards following the fashion and thus keep a tab on the latest trends. A few years back long kurtis were in fashion. Essay on Fashion for Children and Students

December 22, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Fashion is a way of styling in terms of clothes, lifestyle, culture etc. In our everyday life, we get influenced by the fashion statement of actors and actresses. There has been a huge paradigm shift right from the 80’s up to the 21 st century. It symbolizes cultural and social changes that take place over a period of time.

Fashion is what one thinks and wears in confidence. Many fashion lovers have their fashion sense and thus bring variety in the industry reflecting contemporary innovative tags.

Table of Contents

Changing Trends

Among children, the term fashion simply means differing ways of dressing, hairstyles, footwear, nail art etc but the term fashion goes beyond clothing. It can literally mean changing trends in a society, like increase in the percentage of working women over the past century, women handling business.

Women have gone one step beyond men in terms of fashion. Earlier, Indian tradition stressed on wearing saris, bhurka, suit-salwar etc. But now women have the right to wear whatever they feel like. Trousers, pants, shirts are commonly worn by Indian ladies worldwide.

Top Magazines

New perceptions are inculcated with the help of fashion magazines. It is a conglomeration of varying fashion statements all over the world. There are many fashion magazines like ‘The Elle’, Cosmopolitan, Nylon, Allure, Vogue, Dazed, Seventeen, Harpers Bazaar.

Self-styling

Fashion is something that can be followed informally, unless you want to pursue it as a career. It builds onto one’s personality. It reflects one’s own way of thinking and reflection of oneself. It can be a source of infotainment, where one can learn about the changing history of trends over the past few years as well as utilize it for self dressing and fun activities. It can also be a source of experimentation. One can always experiment with new styling and clothing on themselves, friends and family.

There are many educational institutions that promote and support the ideals of fashion industry and encourage all those who wish to pursue fashion as a serious career by providing formal degrees and internship opportunities with famous and renowned stylists. Some of the top institutes are NIFT ( National Institute of Fashion Technology ), Pearl academy, SID (Symbiosis institute of Design) etc.

Boys also have their own ideas of being fashionable. They wear loose Tee-shirts, tight pants, Justin Beiber hair style, long pointed shoes. On the other hand, girls wear off-shoulder dresses, pants, long skirts, graphic printed Tee-shirts etc. They try to mimic their favourite TV stars, because apparently what’s shown on the screen has to be cool. But in reality, it’s not the case.

The affluent want to stand different. All the celebrities that want to adopt the latest trend for the simple reason that they belong to that kind of suitable ethos and so it reflects in their next coming generations too. But a lay person cannot afford such luxuries.

A short heighted girl will always put an effort of wearing heels; on the other hand a tall statured girl will avoid doing so. Everybody wants to look fashionable and stylish, but it should not be at the cost of one’s comfort. The young generation should not waste their valuable time, energy and resources on such activities and focus on something that helps them become a better person.

A 1920s Fashion History Lesson: Flappers, the Bob, and More Trends That Made the Roaring Twenties Roar

By Lilah Ramzi

How did 1920s fashion help to make the Roaring Twenties roar? Bernice had bobbed her hair; French tennis star Suzanne Lenglen was fueling the sportif craze; the taste for all things Art Deco carried over into fashion; and Chanel had slipped women into something more comfortable—the Little Black Dress . The LBD was deemed such a closet mainstay that Vogue drew a comparison to Ford’s revolutionary Model T of 1908. In an article in our October 1, 1926 issue entitled “The Debut of the Winter Mode,” Vogue captioned a sketch of a black, long-sleeved frock that fell just below the knees: “The Chanel ‘Ford’—the frock that the world will wear is model 817 of black crepe de chine.”

On our covers, we celebrated the decade with illustrations from the likes of Georges Lepape, Benito, and William Bolin. A harmony of linear elements that appear plucked from the sketches of the forthcoming Chrysler Building, these illustrations helped feed the Art Deco frenzy. Fashion-wise, women were dressed in cloche hats, tubular silhouettes with drop waists, and handkerchief hemlines boldly skimming shins—which were on show for the very first time.

A breakdown of all these 1920s fashion trends and more, below.

Women’s Trends of the 1920s

The tomboy look.

While the archetypical woman of the 1920s wasn’t yet ready for a full-on menswear-inspired moment (that would take a few decades—about five, for Saint Laurent’s Le Smoking ), she was here for the “La Garçonne” look—which was boyish, not manish. A play on words with the feminine article for the French “man” La Garçonne-style aimed to unsculpt the female body, with silhouettes that draped over her curves—no pinching or hugging. The look also called for a shorter hemline, which had previously been permissible only for young girls who could not yet embrace their femininity via fashion.

The house of Premet championed this aesthetic. In a February 1924 feature entitled “Interview with Couturiers,” Premet’s Charlotte Révyl remarked on the gendered balancing act of the La Garçonne look: “Nowadays, with cut hair, tiny hats pulled down over the eyes, bateau necks or other little collars, long sleeves, and boyish figures, we have absolutely nothing feminine left, unless we see the pretty slender ankles."

Even before F. Scott Fitzgerald cemented the bob as the ’do of the decade in his much-read short story “Bernice Bobs Her Hair,” published in May 1920 in The Saturday Evening Post , the bold were test-driving the cutting -edge look. In 1915, dancer Irene Castle, who purportedly cut her hair for ease following a surgery, kept her ear-length hair in place on a headband across her forehead; it was such a distinctive look that it came to be known as the “Castle band.” Other memorable bobs belong to the vampy silent film star Louise Brookes, whose angular jet-black bob stole hearts in 1928’s Howard Hawks film A Girl in Every Port, and Josephine Baker, who slicked hers down with sculpted locks into Kiss curls.

The look wasn’t just for vixens of the screen and stage; it was a well-adopted style that went mainstream. By February of 1926, Vogue reported: “In a week of nights spent at smart restaurants in Paris or New York, one might never see a single distinguished head in the Lady Godiva tradition. The bob rules.”

Skirt Hemlines Rose

Nary a knee was on show during this era (it’s a common misconception that flappers wore dresses above the knee) though the daring flapper might have flashed them whilst seated! Hemline historians cite 1926 as the peak of this trend, with dresses and skirt hemlines rising; at first, skimming the ankles, then up the mid-shin, then just below the knee. All the while, flesh-colored stockings sheathed the leg.

Flapper Style

Think of the descriptor of flapper as being synonymous with trendy. The flapper look was the prevailing trend, and flappers were those girls who dressed the part. But it’s a term with a bit of a backstory—some thought the term referred to youths who opted to unbuckle their galoshes, letting them flap with each step. Others trace flapper back to a Victorian term used to describe (clutch your pearls!) young prostitutes. It took some consideration to rebrand flapper. In 1917 Vogue titled an article “The Term ‘Flapper’ Carries No Stigma.” By 1920, Frances Marion released the film The Flapper, starring Olive Thomas and the rest was history. Every girl wanted to be a flapper.

The fashionable lady of the 1920s wouldn’t step outside without her hat. Come nightfall, however, she’d leave it behind. Following the craze for oversized pancake hats in the 1900s, the 10s and 20s saw a gradual shrinking of ladies’ hats into the coche style. Popularized by milliner Caroline Reboux in 1908, the hat style gets its name after the French word for “bell.” It was also the perfect pairing for the bob—a helmet-like hat for a helmet-like haircut.

The Little Black Dress

Slick and sumptuously understated, Chanel’s 1926 little black dress in a crepe de chine was entirely modern. The look embraced black as a fashion color after a long and sorrowful history as the hue to mourn in. Plus, the LBD's unfussiness was a striking departure from previous modes. Fabric-wise, the silhouette Chanel put forth could be constructed in a variety of textiles, encouraging a democratization of couture look as it was very re-creatable. The look was such a mainstay; the little black dress was appropriate for day and eveningwear; jersey by day, chiffon by night—chic all day long!

The Robe de Style

Lesser celebrated, though no less prevalent, was another novel silhouette of the era dubbed the Robe de Style . In sync with the era, this silhouette showcased a bit of leg, but unlike the tubular look, there was a bit of body. The dress typically featured a gathered and expansive skirt but with zero waist on show. It reads as diaphanous, floaty, and highly feminine. French couturier Jeanne Lanvin is most associated with the Robe de Style, but she was one of many designers who offered a girlish alternative to the boyish La Garçonne look. In a 1923 feature on French actress and fashion darling Regina Camier, Vogue cites how “Aided and abetted by Lanvin…Camier made many converts to the Robe de Style.”

Men’s Trends of the 1920s

If, during this decade, Paris gave the final word in womenswear, London set the tone for men—particularly a certain gentleman by the name of Edward VIII , then Prince of Wales. Suits went down from three to two pieces, and pinstripes were a popular choice, as were tweeds and flannels; anything that evoked Savile Row tailoring and English country living, as epitomized by the Prince. Two pant trends uphold this tweedy aesthetic: the Oxford Bags (a wide-leg pant said to be inspired by those worn by rowers at Oxford) and the plus-fours (worn for golf). On their heads? A Magritte-style bowler hat.

In the Culture

The Harlem Renaissance lit up the world and gave it something to listen to, with jazz musicians and bandleaders like Duke Ellington setting the soundtrack for the decade. A 1923 Broadway show, “Runnin’ Wild,” gave the world the jazzy dance ‘The Charleston,’ and over in Paris, at the Folies Bergère, Josephine Baker was holding court. Speaking of courts, in the world of tennis, French sensation Suzanne Lenglen teamed up with couturier Lucien Lelong to serve some major fashion looks that carried over into ready-to-wear.

After a few weeks tooling around, I came up with a list of the best classes you can take on the platform right now. It's a list of ten Masterclasses that I think showcase the best of the platform, ten reasons for you to shell out ten measly dollars a month. I'll probably be updating this list as I try more classes, but for now, these are the ten best Masterclasses to get you started.

I really believe in growing your own food, more than anything else on Earth, actually. It gives you a sense of independence that's rare in the modern world, and luckily for this article, it's something that can be taught pretty easily in a video format.

Ron Finley is a food-security activist who got his start growing gardens on unused plots of land in L.A. So there's really no excuse for you to say you don't have the space to grow any of your own food.

Another thing I'm passionate about, and something that really works with the Masterclass format, is cooking. There's a big Masterclass culinary section , and I'd advise working through every single series.

For the purpose of this story, though, I'll talk about this class from Mashama Bailey, the culinary mind behind the Grey in Savannah, Georgia, coincidentally one of my favorite restaurants on Earth. She teaches you the classics of Southern cuisine, and she dives deep on dishes that are often overlooked in the mainstream food industry. The class finishes with learning to cook a gumbo, and ... well, it's better than my mom's.

Speaking of learning to cook, you should always seek to branch out beyond recipes. When my mom taught me to cook—all those Southern recipes that Mashama Bailey is better at—there were rarely recipes involved. Cooking is an art, a feeling—not a science.

That's what Roy Choi gets at here. Throughout this class (one of my favorites) Choi shows you how to cook specific recipes but dives into what you're actually doing and how to make it your own. He empowers you to get in the kitchen and have fun.

This is why I love Masterclass. You can pay one little subscription and learn all kinds of shit. When else am I going to get a professionally taught class on making my own floral arrangements?

This is a tight class; no time is wasted. Maurice Harris, who owns Bloom & Plume , has an incredible client list—Louis Vuitton, the Row, and Goop, to name a few. The class runs you through five floral arrangements, but by the end of it, you're empowered enough to strike out on your own.

In this class, you'll learn how to "Define Your Core Values" and "Own Your Team Culture" while "Leading with Emotion." What does any of that mean, concretely? I'm not sure. But if any of you are fans of The Bear , you'll remember how Sydney (Ayo Edebiri) is always talking about Coach K's book Leading with the Heart . Think of this as the video format of that book. Learn how to be a great leader, boss, and recruiter.

Of all the people on the Masterclass platform, I'd trust Kris Jenner the most—1 billion percent. Maybe you think you can learn personal branding on your own, but I'd treat Kris's videos like gospel. I'm not sure if there's a more shrewd business mind on Earth. She's masterminded America's royal family, and that's more valuable than whatever Mark Cuban is going to teach you.

Speaking of! Mark Cuban's got a class where he teaches you business, general business. Will it make you a billionaire? Probably not. But it's rare that you get actionable advice like this from a real business mind.

Instead of being self-help-y about his own story, Cuban gives advice in this Masterclass that's actually quite actionable. It goes through a lot of his business mindset. So if you want professional development, it's either this Masterclass or you can spend ten years trying to get on Shark Tank and hopefully walk away with Mark as a mentor. The Masterclass is a better bet.

This is another more conceptual type of class. Am I going to learn how to be a fashion designer from this five-hour course? Nope. I came out of it still not knowing how to sew. But! It's a seriously fun watch. Less actionable advice and more a digital mentorship from one of the best to ever do it.

This class didn't make me better at math, and that's a compliment. Instead of teaching you college-level mathematics (impossible with the Masterclass format), Terence Tao teaches you mathematical thinking.

Think of it as a class to teach you to problem-solve in a new way. Instead of thinking with Mark Cuban's business mind or Marc Jacobs's designer mind, you get a peek into Tao's mathematical approach to problem-solving. At the end of the day, a lot of other stuff (especially business) comes down to mathematical models ... which are kind of like games.

The pandemic did a number on y'all, relationally. I'm in a long-term romantic relationship and plenty of other, longer-term, non-romantic relationships. (Sorry, not to flex.) I have no issues with self-awareness, empathy, or conflict resolution. (I'm flexing again.) Some of you, though, could stand to learn a thing or two.

Jokes aside, think of Esther Perel's class as therapy lite. Improve your work life, romantic life, and interpersonal life with direct help from a renowned psychotherapist.

Essay on “Changing Fashions” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

Changing Fashions

Essay No. 01

Change is the law of nature. Seasons change frequently. There is broad daylight day and then comes the dark night. The same is with the nature of human beings. Change in the dress- style has not been seen only with the seasons but with places, communities, occasions, and times. The rich wear to show off and the poor to cover their bodies. Change in the style of dress and ornaments, shoes and caps has been everywhere, with people of every time and caps has been everywhere,  with people of every time and country. the women have been much eager and particular to have a change in their dress and ornaments to show off. With the fast pace of development and affluence, the taste for fashion has increased tremendously in modern times. Fashion is a big industry now. Men and women of high taste have taken it as a profession. They are the experts to guide you on which dress would suit you on what occasion. They change the trends of fashion. Such people are much sought after these days by the actors and actresses in movies and television serials. Gone are the days when people would go to tailors and get their clothes stitched by them. Now everything is ready-made according to all your choice and size. There is a swift race after the western fashion in dress. The cable and television culture of the present day has given rise to this rising trend of fashion.

Changing Fashion

Essay No. 02

Fashion is constantly changing. They never remain the same. Much money is spent by people to buy things that are of the latest fashion. People follow fashion because they like a novelty. The same old things do not please them. They like to be fashionably dressed so that people might notice them. The same old fashions come back as new fashions after a number of years. For example, it was the fashion for men in the 16th and 17th centuries to have long hair. Today the same fashion of long hair for men has come back. In the 19th century, the age of Queen Victoria, men used to keep side locks. Modern young men to keep long sideburns. They wore tight trousers then which are once more commonly seen today. Western fashions are becoming more and more popular with our young people. Girls are seen in miniskirts and maxis, in embroidered jeans and trousers. Boys and girls tend to dress alike as they do in foreign countries. Boys have begun to wear all kinds of bright and colourful clothes as they did in the days of Queen Elizabeth I. Even in the matter of shoe fashions keep on revolving from pointed to square and round toe type of shoes and, back again in a cyclic form. A man should not be the slave of fashion but his master. People should adjust fashion to suit them instead of blindly following any kind of fashion. They should try to follow fashion and yet be decently dressed. There is no sense in sacrificing one character for the sake of fashion.
