Importance of Physical Fitness Essay

People all over the world are becoming fitness conscious as they have realized that it is the most important and have shifted their priorities from everything else to keep them fit and fine as healthy with wealth. Regular exercise has several benefits it helps the body to get into the desired shape and develops resistance power from gaining additional and excessive weight. It helps a person safe from diseases such as obesity, blood pressure, heart diseases, and high cholesterol. Furthermore, an activity also helps in reducing depression and insomnia by enhancing sleeping routines. Also, such activity is known to produce positive vibes inside a person which in turn increases the person’s confidence. (Hardcastle, 2006)

Fitness training fine-tunes the muscles using and burning calories in the body which also increases the metabolic rate in the body. While an inactive person will have his or her body losing its muscles decreasing the metabolism of the body, resulting in concentration of calories and formation of fat and the person gains weight. Exercises like walking, jogging, running, swimming, doing push-ups and pull-ups, running up a flight of stairs, doing crunches, cycling, etc. not only helps a person maintain an outer strong and toned look but it also help the organs like heart, lungs, liver and other to function properly while giving mental peace. (Hasselfors, Hans, n.d.)

For the community, there can be several initiatives taken to help people exercise regularly and maintain a healthy diet. Being a nutritionist advisor, I can guide people on what types of food are healthy and which types of foods should be avoided. As a social welfare worker, I can organize marathons for social causes where people can participate in the form of marathon exercises and also serve a more worldly cause. By adopting an educationist’s role, I can educate the positive aspects of personal fitness and make people aware of the negatives of not exercising. Also, I can start dancing lessons for young boys and girls where from an early stage not only children learn to dance but also learn to exercise. Furthermore, I can become a sport’s proponent where teaching people to play sports will also help them increase their activity and become fit. (Personal Health Zone, 2009)

The most common type of exercise is walking or running. From a casual stroll to a paced walk every day works the muscles relentlessly. Yet another popular exercise common amongst the younger people is playing sports since most sports involve running and stretching out the body muscles. Aerobics or even dancing is a type of exercise that is fun yet physically strengthening. Although swimming might fall under the banner of sports, most people swim to relax in the water and have a good time, and can exercise their body at the same time. For the more body-conscious people, bodybuilding is a set of exercises that strengthens the muscles by picking weights and putting regular pressure. Carrying excessive loads from to and fro also is a form of exercise. Furthermore, in a computer-related work environment, where repetitive strain injury (RSI) is quite common, people should take regular breaks and stretch out their muscles. People recommend the use of machines available in gymnasiums to flex their muscles. Yet another method of exercising is cycling either on a bicycle or a gymnasium machine. (ADAM, 2004)

Active people tend to outlive those who are inactive. In case of being physically inactive for a long time and then taking drastic measures to lose weight to achieve a good result is not an efficient way, as it will not have a lifelong effect on the body. It is rather recommended to consult the physician and go slowly and step-wise. Alongside maintaining a healthy lifestyle by eating healthy food, avoiding junk and fast food, and exercising regularly mainly in the early morning and late evening as these are the effective times for exercising.

The Fitness Trainer Course

The two types of training I am going to discuss today are aerobic, and anaerobic.  It is important to know the difference between these two types of training. The first type is aerobic which ‘occurs with the use of oxygen, or requiring oxygen’ (Hatfield, 2018, p.

fitness trainer essay

Proficient in: Anaerobic Respiration

“ Amazing as always, gave her a week to finish a big assignment and came through way ahead of time. ”

108). The second one is anaerobic which is the opposite of aerobic and it ‘occurs without the use of oxygen’ (Hatfield, 2018, p. 109).  When you are performing an exercise it is either aerobic, or anaerobic training your body is experiencing.

Your cardiovascular system is at work during aerobic exercises as this typically involves exercises on a ‘treadmill, stepper, or a bike’ (Hatfield, 2018, p. 108).

When you are at a steady pace the slow twitch muscle fibers in the body come into play during the aerobic exercises. This is a contrast to the response to anaerobic training as this type of training ‘greatly increases the body’s functional capacity for development of explosive strength and maximization of short-term energy systems’ (Hatfield, 2018, p. 109). This is when the fast twitch muscle fibers come into play. The heart rate during these two types of training have similarities as they both average for a ‘conditioned person of 60 bpm or less’ (Hatfield, 2018, p. 49). If you fall into the deconditioned category with no exercise you ‘may have a resting heart rate of about 80 bpm or more’ (Hatfield, 2018, p. 49).

The adaptations the body undergoes over time for aerobic training include an ‘increase in the size and number of mitochondria and greater myoglobin content, the aerobic capacity of the muscle tissue is then enhanced’ (Hatfield, 2018, p. 108). So when this occurs the muscles fibers are able to ‘boost the fat burning capabilities’ (Hatfield, 2018, p. 108). When you look at the adaptations of anaerobic exercises you can see how the fast-twitch muscle fibers begin to grow in their size and ‘an increased tolerance to higher levels of blood lactate, increase in enzymes of glucose breakdown and an increase in muscle resting levels of ATP, CP, creatine, and glycogen content’ (Hatfield, 2018, p. 109).

As a future personal trainer it will be important to have an understanding of aerobic, and anaerobic training for my clients. I will help educate them on the differences and utilize the formula that is presented on page 49 of the text between a conditioned person, and a deconditioned person. This helped me get a more accurate idea of where I was when I started my training years ago as it made me see the extra work my heart was beating as a deconditioned person. I will help my clients see that the two types of training go more hand and hand as you can incorporate exercises that fulfill both types and get the results you desire. I will explain the health benefits of how your cardiovascular system is strengthened with these training types.

Aerobic exercises can help ‘relieve stress, lower the risk of heart disease, slow the aging process, improve the quality of sleep, and improve mental sharpness’ (Hatfield, 2018, p. 304). I will also educate my clients on the effects of overtraining and how you must listen to your body when you are exercising. My trainer I had would make me stop even when I wanted to keep on going as she felt that I was pushing myself way too hard during anaerobic strength training. I was pushing a sled with a lot of weight on it, and my foot slipped at one point. I wanted to keep going, but my trainer could see that I was exhausted and I wasn’t listening to my body. So it is important to listen to your trainer as we are the ones who are supposed to look for signs like this to help keep our clients accountable as well. I found it was so easy to focus while in the training zone that I would ignore the fatigue I was feeling.

Fitness Training Essay

Most fitness and training facilities now have stability balls, foam rolls, balance boards and other fun toys as part of their conditioning equipment. These are part of a new trend in the strength and conditioning field called functional training. Definition Functional training is the action of training function, a general term that meaning role or duty. Functional training is the science of training the body to meet the specific demands of life and sports. It is based on 1) the principle of specificity and 2) muscle function.

The principle of specificity also known as SAID (Specific Adaptations to Imposed Demands) means that the body responds and adapts specifically to the type and amount of physical demands under which it is placed. In other words, you only improve what youve specifically trained. Since muscle form dictates the role and function of each muscle, muscle needs to be trained the way it is designed to function. Origin Functional training is nothing new and comes primarily from the rehabilitation field. For many decades, therapists have been experimenting with ways of helping their patients regain function.

Their goal is to retrain muscles to work properly using special exercises. In their quest to help their patients to become more functional, they have a developed functional training approach. Traditional vs. Functional Traditional strength training usually consists of trying to develop strength and build muscle through isolating specific muscle groups. This type of training could be called dysfunctional training and only develop segmental strength. Traditional strength training is adequate for building muscle but it does not train the body to meet the specific demands of life and sports.

It does not reproduce real life conditions and only serves to create non-functional strength. Peter Twist, Vancouver Canucks Strength and Conditioning Coach, explains: Typical strength training attempts to develop the body through a piecemeal approach, isolating specific muscle groups. Worse yet, this is often done with the body unloaded, sitting stationary on a machine while moving one isolated body part through a controlled range of motion, usually in a strict linear, straight ahead motion.

Traditional strength training train isolated muscle function while functional training train the body to work as a unit. The central nervous system is programmed to make the body function as a unit, not to work in terms of isolated muscle function. Functional training is functional since it trains the body the way it has been designed to function. Benefits of Functional Training This type of training has many benefits but the most important one being that it creates a healthy, well-conditioned body.

Some of the major benefits are: to develop kinesthetic awareness and body control to improve Posture to improve muscle balance to decrease incidence of injury to improve athletic performance to have a positive effect on spinal health to enhance movement efficiency to give a more narrow-waist look (as a result of an improved posture) to improve both dynamic and static balance Functional training offers more benefits overall than traditional strength training. A combination of both is still possible if you are looking for the benefits of functional training while looking to specifically develop muscles.

As a rule of thumb, always perform functional training first when your nervous system is still fresh. Functional Exercises Highly functional exercises need to facilitate as much multi-joint involvement as possible to create muscular and joint interdependency ; it also need to challenge the body with proprioceptively enriched exercises in an unstable environment that excite and develop the nervous system says Mark Cibrario, Owner of a personal training studio and expert in functional training.

In each movement, various muscles are involved and they all play a different role. The central nervous system, responsible for muscle activation, is programmed for integrated kinetic chain movement which involves the agonist (prime mover), antagonist (opposite to prime mover), synergists (assist prime mover), stabilizers (which stabilize joints while prime movers and synergists perform movement), and neutralizers (which counteract unwanted action of others muscles), all these together work to reproduce an efficient movements.

The body is not designed for isolated muscle function. Each movement requires an integration of various muscles. It has been shown that the body responds better to training in an unstable environment which challenge the nervous system. This is the reason why functional training uses so many tools to create instability. To train function, an exercise must engage the superficial core muscles to help produce force, reduce force, or dynamically stabilize the spine, along with the deep inner unit musculature to provide segmental stability and stiffness to the spine.

To be functional, an upper body exercise must also activate shoulder joint stabilizers and neutralizers and a lower body exercise must activate the hip, knee and ankle joint stabilizers. These exercises also need to balance body segments over ones base of support and challenge the body to maintain ideal posture. The body is designed to work as a unit with muscles are firing up in a specific sequence to produce the desired movement. Popular Strength Coach from International Performance Institute, Mark Verstegen says Your world is 360 degrees; its chaos.

In other words, your body needs to train at every angle and in every plane to mimic real life. Functional training is also based on the principle of individualization. What is functional for one, is not necessarily functional for another. Each individual has different functional needs and these needs have to be assessed before a functional training program can be recommended. Functional exercises will vary, based on a persons needs and the specific demands they have to meet in their daily life and in sports.

Conclusion Functional Training has many benefits and should be part of any exercise program whether it is for sport-specific conditioning, rehabilitation or general fitness. Traditional strength training should serve as a complement to functional training. Not only is functional training is an excellent concept but it is also fun and challenging. A word of advice: get familiar with stability balls, balance boards and foam rolls and add a whole new dimension to your workout.

Jerome "Jerry" Christal-Gattanella was rear-ended and killed while his car was parked in the shoulder of the northbound side of the highway in Newark late Monday, Feb. 19, as previously reported by Daily Voice.

The 42-year-old New York City resident worked as a trainer at Inwood Fitness, who announced his passing on Instagram.

One of his clients said she waited and waited for him to show up for their session the following day. He never did.

"Jerry, I waited for you at 8am yesterday for our training session and you never showed up, only to learn of the worst possible thing," she wrote in the comment section of the gym's post.

"Words cannot express the immense pain it has been to learn that you are no longer around. It truly hurts to speak of you in the past tense. You had a smile that lit up any space. Your personality was unparalleled; a kind and gentle soul. I extend my deepest sympathies and condolences to all those who love you 💐 ❤😢."

Jerry's LinkedIn page shows he worked as an insurance agent in addition to fitness, his clear passion.

Inwood Fitness said Jerry was a pillar of the community, having "poured" himself into the business.

"He championed not only a welcoming and inclusive environment, but truly made the gym feel like home; the members, like family.

"His passing has left our hearts indescribably heavy, as we mourn the loss of an amazing trainer, but more importantly a true example of leadership, change, kindness and love."

"Omg what a shock to see this 😭😭😭," another mourner wrote. "Jerry was good neighbor and kind soul. Really feeling this today and sending my condolences all around 💔💔💔."
