problem solution essay traffic jam

No More Traffic Jams

There is nothing worse than being trapped in your car, waiting in the middle of a traffic jam. It is frustrating, knowing that there is nothing you can do and that you are going to be late to work. Traffic jams often occur during rush hour or right after a large event because there are more cars on the road than normal. Traffic jams can also be caused by car accidents or road construction. They usually occur on major roads that many people use to travel to work or school. Traffic jams are a problem because they make people late for work or school, they can cause car accidents, and they are frustrating. How can we reduce the number of traffic jams? Possible solutions include carpooling or using public transportation. The best way to solve traffic jams is by using public transportation because it will be efficient, economical, and reliable.

First, using public transportation is efficient. A bus is a very efficient way to move lots of people from one place to another using only one vehicle. Instead of having one vehicle for each person on the road, busses take many cars off the road as people ride together. Trains are even more efficient at reducing the number of cars on the road. Because trains have their own dedicated rail system to get people around, all of the cars are eliminated without adding any more traffic to the roads. Not only are busses and trains more efficient at carrying passengers, but time spent on a bus or a train is more efficient for the passenger. This encourages more people to use public transportation. It is easy to see how efficient public transportation is and the impact that it has on reducing traffic.

Another reason that public transportation is the best solution to traffic jams is because it is so economical. People want to use public transportation instead of driving their own car because they can save money. Public transportation usually does not cost very much, especially for people who use it often. There are discounts for seniors and students, which makes it an even more economical way for these groups to travel around town. Using public transportation also eliminates the need to pay for parking, car insurance, and car maintenance, not to mention gasoline. All of the expenses related to owning a car are replaced with one simple fare. Because it is so economical, public transportation is a good solution to traffic jams by encouraging more people to travel together and reduce the number of cars on the road.

Finally, public transportation is the best solution because it is reliable. Many people set up carpools to reduce traffic, but this is only a temporary solution. Every time someone has a change in their schedule, the carpool needs to be adjusted. For example, if someone has to go to the doctor or sleeps in, the carpool will not work that day. If someone changes jobs or transfers to a new school, the carpool will need to be adjusted again. Public transportation, on the other hand, is more reliable. The bus and train schedules don’t change every time that one rider needs to go to the doctor. The schedules are set and people can plan on them. People who use public transportation will find that it is reliable and can help limit the number of cars on the road.

Because it is efficient, economical, and reliable, public transportation is the best way to reduce the number of traffic jams. There are other possible ways to address this problem, but using public transportation is clearly the best. Traffic jams during very busy hours on the road can be reduced and more people can get to work on time and avoid the frustration caused by sitting in the middle of a long line of cars. Cities and governments should consider ways to improve their public transportation system and encourage more people to use it. If they do, they will surely see fewer traffic jams on their roads and much happier drivers.

Band 7 IELTS essay sample

Traffic congestion has become a common trouble almost every city has to confront with. Overpopulation is the main cause of this disturbing phenomenon and it brings inconvenience to citizens’ life. In order to solve this problem, every citizen should make a sincere effort.

Traffic jams are caused when there are too many vehicles on the road at the same time. The most effective way to reduce traffic on roads is to promote public transport. If more people commute to their work using buses or trains, there will be an obvious reduction in the number of private cars on the road. Buses and train can transport a lot more people than cars and this will prevent traffic jams to a greater extent. Of course, this might inconvenience commuters but people need to realize that they are doing this for the greater good.

Another measure that citizens can take is carpooling. They can take turns driving one another to work. With fewer commuters traveling alone, there will be fewer vehicles on road and the road system can be used more efficiently, especially in peak hours. People also need to avoid unnecessary traveling. These days, it is possible to pay utility bills and taxes online and there is no need for people to travel to these offices to pay their dues. In addition, those who jobs that can be done at home should check with their employer to see if they can telecommute.

In conclusion, there are lots of things that regular people can do reduce traffic jams. The most important ones are to limit the use of their private cars and avoid unnecessary traveling.

  • IELTS Essays - plans

A student asked me about the following topic, whether I think it is a situation essay or an argument one.

“The first car appeared on Britain’s road in 1888. By the year 2000 there may be as many as 29 million vehicles on British roads. Alternative forms of transport should be encouraged and international laws introduced to control car ownership and use. What are your views?”

Sample essay - reason solution (writing task 2).

  Question

Nowadays, traffic jams are common across all the cities in the world. Why is it so? What can be some possible solutions?

Traffic congestion is becoming increasingly frequent in urban regions all over the world, because of a variety of reasons, which need to be identified so that this problem can be solved.

There are a number of reasons for the increasing traffic jams. Firstly, inadequate public transport is one of the reasons that most people choose to travel using private vehicles and the usage of these private vehicles leads to an increase in traffic on the roads. Secondly, office timings are usually the same and there is a lot of rush hour traffic in the mornings and evenings. Thirdly, it is becoming easier and cheaper to get car loans by the day because of which more people are buying cars. Fourthly, there are potholes on roads in many cities because the roads are poorly maintained which slow down the traffic. Lastly, in some places, there is insufficient staff in the traffic police. Therefore, people do not obey the traffic rules leading to chaotic and slow traffic.

However, certain measures can help solve this problem of traffic jams. To begin with, authorities should make a good public transport system a priority. Increased usage of public transport will not only reduce traffic jams, but it will also have the added benefit of a decrease in air pollution. Moreover, the government can have rules which do not allow one household to have more than two cars. Another option is to increase the taxes on the purchase of private vehicles. Furthermore, offices can have flexible timings for their employees and if possible, the employees should have the option of working from home. Last but not least, more well-trained police personnel and better maintenance of roads would go a long way in better management of traffic.

To sum up, traffic jams are a major issue worldwide, but this can be solved with the combined effort of the individuals and the government.

Essay on Traffic Jam in Delhi – Essay 3 (400 words)

One of the most common problems that one faces in Delhi is getting caught up in traffic jams. Commuting on the roads of Delhi is becoming more time consuming and exhausting day by day. Poor public transportation, infrastructure and increasing population in the city are the major reasons for traffic on Delhi roads. Our National Capital has become one of the top ten cities in the world for having worst traffic congestions.

Here are some of the major reasons for traffic jams in Delhi:

  • One of the chief reasons for traffic jam is the increasing number of vehicles on the roads. Poor infrastructure is not at par with the growing population. During peak hours there are longer queues and research shows that more than one lakh vehicles travel everyday on the busy roads of Delhi.
  • Another major reason is growing population in Delhi, which results in growing number of workforce.
  • Inadequate public transport network in Delhi is also one of the reasons for traffic jams. Transport system is unable to keep pace with the growing population which results in greater number of private vehicles on the roads that causes traffic congestion.
  • Another reason is mixed traffic which includes cars, buses, two-wheelers, pedestrians, etc which makes it difficult to manage traffic and leads to traffic congestion.
  • Traffic jam results in unnecessary delays that are not preferred by anyone. It results in non-productivity as people get caught up in traffic congestions.
  • Commuting on the roads of Delhi has become unsafe and has resulted in the increasing number of road fatalities. Traffic jams are known to increase these mishaps. Delhi is known for the highest number of road accidents in the country.

The effectiveness of such measures also depends on the people of Delhi and proper imposition of laws.

Essay on Traffic Problems in Big Cities – Essay 4 (500 words)

Population in India is increasing day by day. More and more people are moving to urban areas. So, with the increase in population and urbanization the problem of traffic is becoming more severe in big cities. The pressure of traffic also results in increasing numbers of road accidents. In addition, there are people who have little road sense and often break the traffic rules. This too has resulted in road mishaps.

The major reason of traffic jams is obviously more private cars and vehicles on the road. Poor road management and lack of proper infrastructure also leads to traffic congestion. Besides, the work areas of people are often located far away from the residential areas, which is why they need to travel to work daily. These are the major factors responsible for traffic in big cities and cause several problems.

  • Traffic is one of the major problems in big cities and has made the lives of people really difficult. It is an everyday problem people need to deal with. It wastes time of commuters and motorists. As it is a non productive activity, it also effects our economic growth negatively.
  • People experience delays which result in reaching late for meetings, work, schools and so on. This may even result in personal losses.
  • It also results in waste of fuels that causes air pollution and emission of green house gases.
  • It increases stress and frustration among the motorists and passengers encouraging aggressive driving and annoyed behavior resulting in reduced health of passengers. It may also include verbal insults and intentionally driving in an aggressive and unsafe manner that may lead to road mishaps which can cause injuries and deaths.
  • Traffic congestion may interfere with the route of emergency vehicles that need to move quickly.
  • It is usually not possible for the drivers to estimate the travel time. It takes more time to travel to the destination and results in less productive activities.
  • Traffic jams can also have psychological impact on the mind of a person. The traffic congestion and constant blowing of horns creates excessive noise pollution that leads to aggressive behavior. The delay in work performance and the sense of loss due to less productivity constantly hangs heavy on their heads.
  • Traffic jams hinder the progress of individuals, firms and the nation as a whole. These are not favored by anybody in this fast paced world. Not only do they impact people but also adversely affect our environment and overall economic growth and development.

Traffic problem is one of the major problems that need serious attention. There should be more public transport facility at affordable rates and better infrastructure to encourage people to use public transport. The citizens also need to act in a responsible manner and use public transport or share transport more often to reduce the traffic. Measures also need to be taken to control population which is the major cause of increasing number of vehicles on the roads.

Those who regularly travel through the traffic areas have an idea of approximately how long it usually takes to reach their particular destination. But in case, they get stuck in traffic jams more than the usual time, they get late to reach where they need to head.
  • The breaking and accelerating of the vehicles in traffic jams burns more fuel. More use of fuel costs more to the commuters. And the delay in productivity leads to additional loss.
  • Road rage is the absurd reaction of commuters that is common due to traffic jams. The constant thought of getting late and the loss due to waste of time annoy people. In such a situation if someone is driving slower and blocking the way of person behind him or if someone is overtaking the other driver, it results in aggressive behavior. People often use abusive language and drive aggressively that can lead to accidents. It is basically the outburst by the frustrated drivers stuck in traffic jams.
  • Emergency vehicles get stuck up in traffic jams that causes delay in reaching the location where they need to reach urgently. This may lead to serious loss for some people.

Thus, traffic jam is a serious issue in every big city that causes several problems for commuters on day to day basis. It consumes so much of time and energy unnecessarily and is not preferred by anyone. Serious measures need to be taken to control traffic and promote the use of public transport. Development of public transport network at economical rates is essential. Traffic safety rules should be effectively implemented for the safety of the commuters. People should drive more responsibly, use public transport and opt for car pool whenever possible.

Introduction

India is now the world’s fifth-largest economy. For better opportunities, people are migrating from rural areas to urban areas. India ranks number 2 in the list of countries by ppulation. The rate of urban population is larger than the rural areas. Despite its strong economic growth, the country still faces its share of problems. Due to the deprived facilities, people face many problems. In metro cities one serious problem is Traffic. Traffic Jams have now become a part of our daily lives. Traffic Jams can simply be defined as vehicles stuck on the road and having difficulties in moving smoothly. Vehicles can remain stuck in one place in a Traffic Jam for a very long period of time sometimes. But Traffic Jams are not as simple an issue as defined by the concept. It affects our lives and the national economy.

Reasons for Traffic Jam

There are various reasons why Traffic Jams occur and why they have become an indispensable part of our lives in an unwanted way. Most of the time, Traffic Jams happen due to the infrastructure of Indian roads and bridges. During the rainy season, the pavements of the roads deteriorate due to various factors like cracks, potholes, depressions, rutting, revelling, etc. This causes a lot of distress for people. They have to face unnecessary harassment during their day to day travelling. In our country, public transportation has not been able to cater to the growing travel demand. When urgent situations arise and or people have to reach somewhere within a scheduled time, they are not able to depend on public transport. They prefer to use their own vehicles. This leads to the number of vehicles on the road becoming much more than the capacity of the roads and the flyovers.

One more unfortunate reason as to why Traffic Jams occur is the negligence of Traffic rules and complete ignorance towards the consequences. As a basic Traffic rule, one should always make way for ambulances, but people most often fail to follow this rule as a part of their daily habit. This leads to ambulances getting stuck in Traffic Jams. This in turn can again lead to anyone losing his/her life. By facing problems of pathetic Traffic Jams every day, people become impatient. This affects their attitude towards Traffic rules and they lose the patience to follow the same. People end up flouting Traffic rules causing accidents and injuries. Road rage has become a very common cause of accidents nowadays and more than half of the drivers are guilty of this.

Issues Faced by People due to Traffic Jams

People's lives are greatly impacted by Traffic congestion. It is one of the most important difficulties that residents in big cities face on a daily basis. Because most individuals have to deal with it on a regular basis, they may be affected psychologically. It also has a negative impact on people's employment, education, and personal lives, as well as the country's progress. There are multiple issues that people have to face owing to the increasing problems of Traffic Jams.

It is due to increasing Traffic Jams that most of the time people get late for their work. To avoid getting late, people start driving faster than the prescribed speed limit. This increases the chances of accidents. Because of the issue of increasing Traffic Jams, kids also have to leave their homes early in the morning for school. Many kids spend more than an hour on a school bus because of road congestion even if their schools are a few minutes to hardly half an hour away. Moreover, facing pathetic Traffic every day affects people’s general attitude and mood. People start to get hyper and frustrated and sometimes they take out their frustration on others. A general frustration and hyper attitude affect people’s daily performance at work too.

Most often Traffic Jams are also breeding grounds for increased air pollution and noise pollution. This affects people’s respiratory organs. Kids especially are at higher risk since at such a small age being exposed to pollution reduces their quality of health. Traffic Jams badly affect our health and further reduce the air quality by increasing polluting fumes, unnecessary honking of horns etc. It also results in a waste of fuel. This again can be a cause of unnecessary depletion of our non-renewable energy. Increased Traffic congestion also can be responsible for an increase in the emission of greenhouse gases. This can also lead to increasing global warming.

Solving the Problem of Traffic Jams

Nowadays the government is starting to take some positive steps toward this big problem. Public transport frequency and efficiency are developing day by day. The authorities are also taking care of public transport vehicles, online booking facilities, and following up with scheduled time slots. As people are also becoming more and more aware of the problems arising out of Traffic Jams, they are becoming more and more responsible as well. People are now preferring carpooling and public transport like local trains, metro, buses and so on. They are reducing the usage of their own personal scooters, bikes, cars, etc. Simultaneously, there are many more improvements that are happening in strengthening modes of public transport. Metro and Subways help people to maintain smooth travelling in their day to day lives. With the help of modern technology such as Google Maps, people can now avoid Traffic Jams. If people and the government come together then we can overcome the problem of Traffic Jams.

Employees suffer a maximum loss due to delays for their important work. Traffic jams not only wastes time but also wastes fuels and causes air pollution. 2. What are the measures to be taken to avoid traffic jams?

Use of public transport is one of the best ways to avoid traffic jams as collection of unnecessary personal vehicles not only uses space in your garage but also occupies space on the road. Proper bus bays and cycle tracks are required to encourage people using public transport and cycles.

4. Why have traffic jams become a global problem?

Traffic jams have become a global problem because most of the countries are wasting their time unproductively due to traffic congestions. The U.S is the most affected with almost 10 most congested urban areas. Other places like New York City, Los Angeles, Seattle, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, etc also lose approx more than 100 hours in traffic congestion. U.S. cities compare to the rest of the world because Boston is the only American city that makes the list of the top 10 most congested cities in the world, weighted for population. Moscow in Russia loses around 210 hours of their time in traffic jams. Istanbul, Colombia, Mexico, Brazil, London, Italy all are the top places suffering from traffic jams.

Traffic Jam Essay – PTE, IELTS, TOEFL

Traffic jams are becoming one of the topmost urban problems for the authorities of highly populated cities around the world. Traffic jams lead to many other difficulties such as road rage, air pollution, etc. To overcome this issue, people suggested to impose taxes on drivers but before coming out to any decision, we will first discuss its advantages and disadvantages.

The use of car drivers are increasing every year at a very increasing rate so it caused congestion on the traffic. Some countries impose taxes for car drivers and improve the quality of public transport to solve the traffic problem. The government should encourage society to change public transportation so that the congestion on the traffic can be solved.

Levying taxes is not an appropriate answer to the problem of traffic jams for numerous reasons also. Owners of private vehicles generally belong to the rich class. Imposing taxes does not affect the rich class as they can pay taxes easily. Most of the middle and lower class travel through public transport which could not affect them also. Secondly, the gap between poor and rich increases. Higher taxes means a higher expense for the driver which results to increase in the price of services. This will contribute to inflation and put a great burden on the economy of the country.

In nutshell, i believe that its good to levy taxes for car drivers and then these funds must be used to improve the quality of public transport. This will be suitable solution for solving issue of traffic jam.

traffic jam reasons and solutions essay

Traffic jams happen all the time, and unfortunately they can be both frustrating and dangerous. In this article, we’ll explore some of the most common causes of traffic jams, and offer some solutions that you can use to avoid them in the future. Stay safe and free from traffic jams!

Why do we have traffic jams?

Traffic jams can happen for a variety of reasons, but typically they’re the result of congestion on a highway, road, or city street. Here are some of the most common causes:

1. Too many cars on the road: This is probably the most common cause of traffic jams. When there are too many cars on the road, drivers can’t move quickly enough to avoid getting stuck. The more cars there are, the less space there is for everyone to pass.

2. Inadequate infrastructure: Traffic jams can also be caused by inadequate infrastructure, such as poorly maintained roads or bridges. If a bridge is too narrow or the pavement is in bad condition, for example, cars will get stuck trying to cross it. Or if there’s not enough lanes in a highway, drivers will get jammed up trying to merge.

3. Congestion pricing: Another cause of traffic jams is congestion pricing – systems where drivers have to pay to use a public transportation system or highway lanes during busy times. This can help reduce the number of cars on the road and prevent backups from forming.

4. Weather conditions: Weather conditions can also play a role in causing traffic jams. If it’s windy or raining, for example, drivers can’t see properly and will get stuck in traffic.

How to avoid traffic jams

The best way to avoid traffic jams is to use public transportation or carpooling when possible. If you absolutely have to drive, try to avoid driving during rush hour and use alternate routes when possible. Here are some other tips for avoiding traffic jams:

– Avoid driving in busy areas during peak hours. – Plan your route ahead and steer clear of congested areas. – Leave plenty of time for your trip and allow for detours. – Don’t speed or drive recklessly. This can cause accidents and further congestion.

What to do when you get stuck in a traffic jam

There are a variety of reasons why you might find yourself stuck in traffic, and there are a variety of solutions. In this article, we’ll look at the most common causes of traffic jams, and what you can do to avoid them.

Causes of Traffic Jams

There are a number of reasons why traffic can get backed up. The most common cause is congestion on the roads, which can be caused by a number of factors. Congestion can be caused by too many cars on the road, accidents, or weather conditions like rain or snow. Other causes of congestion include people trying to leave work early or school late, or drivers trying to get home from work.

The solution to congestion is usually more roads. However, this isn’t always possible or practical. Sometimes, it’s necessary to reduce the number of cars on the road in order to improve travel times . For example, some cities have implemented parking restrictions that force people to park farther away from the city center. This makes it easier for drivers to get out of their cars and walk or take public transportation instead.

The best ways to get around a traffic jam

A traffic jam can be frustrating, but there are several ways to get around it. Here are four tips:

1. Use public transportation. This is the most efficient way to get around a traffic jam, since buses and trains get you to your destination faster than cars. 2. Split up your trip. If you need to travel a long distance, try splitting the trip into multiple parts. This will help avoid congestion and make the drive more enjoyable. 3. Drive during off-peak hours. Traffic congestion tends to peak during the morning and evening hours, so try to avoid driving during these times if possible. 4. Check out alternate routes. If all else fails, consider using alternate routes that may bypass the traffic jam altogether.

If you’re like most people, you’ve probably experienced a traffic jam at some point in your life. And if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably wondered what could be causing the backups. In this article, we’ll discuss some of the reasons that traffic jams happen and offer some solutions. Hopefully this will help reduce the number of times you find yourself stuck in traffic!

problem solution essay traffic jam

Traffic Jam in Big Cities | Problem & Solution | Essay | Short Paragraph

December 20, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Traffic is, inevitably, the most irritating grievance that is encountered on a daily basis by millions of drivers. Long queues of vehicles piled up, stranded people, longer trip durations, and are all characteristics of traffic jam which is now a common sight at almost every interjunction.

Not very long ago, Delhi was a peaceful place to live in, when the people were less and consequently the vehicles were also less. Traffic snarls were unheard of. Ever since the population of Delhi started bursting at its seems, the same way these these traffic snarls also started increasing.

According to a recent study, our city has a major distinction of having the largest number of vehicles in the country, the total of which surpasses the combined vehicles of the other metropolitan – Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata taken together.

This is off course a gloomy state for the capital of the nation as it is quite evident that the traffic conditions in this city are quite unmanageable. This sudden surge in the traffic snarls is due to increasing number of vehicles which has resulted in the clogging and choking of the roads to the brim. Our roads are not capable of accumulating the amount of traffic that happens to junk the roads every day.

traffic jam essay

People look up to cars as a status symbol in the society due to which they yearn to possess cars so as to show off their wealth.

Nevertheless, people mindlessly disregard traffic rules which not only cause loss to life and property but also are a major reason for the immediate stranding of innumerable cars lined up behind the vehicle. Additionally, stray dog and cattle take refuge in the middle of streets and are found obstructing smooth flow of vehicular traffic.

If we dig deeper into the menace of traffic jams, we will notice that we ourselves are the cause of traffic. We are the traffic. Blaming someone else for traffic congestion will not do. Have you ever noticed that when you come out from a traffic snarl that the problem was probably nothing.

When you expect it to be a major accident, it turns out to be something as minor as a motorist changing lanes so as to go fast but in this bid, he creates problems for the vehicles behind due to the chain reaction which occurs causing slowdown of the multiple vehicles behind the motorist. Also, the condition of the roads should be improved and the pot holes and manholes should be covered so as to avoid any accident or damage because of them.

Our roads have already reached their saturation point where they can accumulate no more traffic than they are already doing. This has given the rise to the need for more roads and better infrastructure facilities in terms of transportation. Not withstanding the fact that traffic police are doing their best to regulate the traffic yet it is almost impossible to do so due to the lack of civic sense instilled in people.

According to a recent study done on happiness, it was noticed that the people who travelled by cars were found to be 74% less happy than the ones who used public conveyance for travelling. This is because of the blaring noise of horns and impatience which causes them to become irritable and annoyed.

Road rage is on the rise these days with people becoming more egoistic and less patient; they don’t take a minute before picking up a fight with anyone. Consequently, road accidents have also been on a rise due to traffic conditions.

If we are really earnest in improving these chaotic conditions, we have to initiate stringent measures and also focus on infrastructure development of our city. First of all, roads should be widened so as to smoothen the flow of traffic. More roads should be built by the government.

public transport

Traffic laws should be made stringent and violators should be fined so that the menace of traffic snarls can be controlled. Driving under the spell of liquor and usage of cellphones and headphones should be banned so as to stop the creation of any ruckus on our roads.

Another aspect of traffic jams which is unheard of but has gained popularity in the recent times is Air traffic. Air traffic concerns the commotion and movement of aircrafts on the ground levels, while taking and landing flights and when the airplanes are up in the sky.

Air traffic caused by birds flying in that region which can get stuck in the engine of the airplane and conditions can go downhill, risking hundreds of lives on the plane. Air traffic can also be caused due to some other plane passing from that region which might cause collision and lead to catastrophic destruction. Air traffic can be controlled by the use of sophisticated technology and a vigilant staff in the cabin and on the ground level as well.

In surmise, this country will become a happy place to live in if there are less traffic snarls and more patient people. Without these vehicles, which carry human resources, material resources, goods, raw materials and what not; we cannot sustain.

We need vehicles but we also need a patient life without aggression. The fact remains that if on one hand the government is doing its best yet it’s not enough to fulfill our needs.

Life in a big city now-a-days has become very difficult and complicated. A big city offers us many social, economic and political problems which make our life very hard and rough. The first problem which we come across in a big city is the uncontrolled growth of population. This has generated the traffic problem. The traffic problem in a big city has gone beyond proportion. The traffic jams in a big city are a daily occurrence.

Traffic jams make the march of life slow and unsteady. Men and women going to their place of work are at once halted. They do not reach their office in time. The children are delayed to reach the school. The patients do not get medical aid in time. They have to stop on the way. Sometimes, the traffic is jammed for hours together. The small babies In the laps of their mother cry for milk, but they do not get it.

The traffic jams also leave a psychological effect on our mind. The passengers delayed due to traffic jams feel frustrated and angry. They blow out their horns out of frustration. The sense of loss continuously hangs heavy on their head. The delayed performance of work or duty may bring to them untold misery or loss.

Traffic jams in the modern age reflect an ugly mark on the beautiful face of the city. They are the negation of progress. In this age of‘science and technology, such jams cannot be favoured by anybody. They are a denial of the cultural growth of a city.

Reasons behind the Traffic Problems in a Big City

Let us find out the reasons for the creation of traffic jams in a big city.

The first reason for the creation of traffic jams is the unchecked growth of population. The population in a big city is increasing very rapidly. People from the villages come to settle in the cities. Our villages do not offer them the facilities and comforts of daily life. They come to the big cities in search of jobs and modern facilities of life. This thing has increased the bulk of traffic on the roads.

Secondly, the roads of the cities are narrow and uneven. They are not in a good position. They cannot withstand the pressure of traffic. As a result of the traffic jams, the flow of traffic is halted.

Thirdly, The traffic is controlled and put under heavy control when a V.l.P or President 0r Prime Minister comes to the city. The road is fully banned for the flow of traffic from where the V.I.P has to pass. Another route is re-directed for traffic. The heavy flow of traffic creates jams.

Fourthly: The slow vehicles marching ahead of the motorcars sometime put up resistance in the smooth flow of traffic.

Measures to control traffic:

  • We can control the traffic jams by adopting the following measures.
  • The rapid increase in population should be stopped by taking different steps.
  • The villages should be urbanized. The migration of the villagers to the cities should be discouraged.
  • The traffic police must be made alert and vigilant.
  • The roads should be widened and put in a good shape.
  • Some roads should not be reserved for the V.I.P’s. They should visit the big cities as an ordinary citizen.
