Effects on Drivers

The behaviour of a stressful driver is dependent on the driver’s coping abilities. Also, drivers who display high aggression often indulge in direct confrontation strategies when they face stress during driving. It seems like drivers who experience road rage also commit more traffic violations. Driving certainly presents many stresses to a driver who is driving a vehicle.

There is a direct positive correlation between driving stress and road rage. As the driving stress increases, similarly, the likelihood of a person committing road rage increases dramatically.

Furthermore, younger males are more likely to indulge in road rage behaviour in comparison to other types of people. Most cases of road rage take place due to cutting in and cutting out of traffic, parking spots disputes, rude gestures, and lane changes.

Some experts believe that people who customize their cars with stickers and adornments are more susceptible to road rage behaviour. Psychologists probably don’t consider road rage as a mental disorder.

There was an article published from the Associated Press in 2006 which said road rage behaviour can be the result of intermittent explosive disorder. Adults numbering 9200 in the United States came to this conclusion in a survey. The funding of these surveys was made by the National Institute of Mental Health.

Short Essay on Road Rage in India – Essay 1 (200 words)

The growing cases of road rage in India have become a cause of concern. These cases are not restricted to a particular region but are reported across the country. Many people get badly injured while others lose their life as a result of road rage in India. Numerous such cases are registered every day but nothing much is done about them.

The bad conditions of the Indian roads, poor traffic management, rise in noise pollution on the roads and erratic weather conditions of the country are said to attribute to road rage. Whatever be the reason such kind of behaviour is not acceptable. It all begins with an argument between two parties each blaming the other. They use foul language and even try to hit one another in an attempt to prove their point. The fight takes an ugly turn many times and results in physical abuse sometimes leading to murder.

It is unfortunate to see that even though many people gather around them there is hardly anyone who makes an effort to calm them down. People stand at a distance watching the entire scene as if it is a source of entertainment for them. Many people these days capture these incidences on phone and upload them on the social media. People give suggestions on how the situation should have been handled on the social media but nobody steps forward when the help is actually required.

Essay on Road Rage and Violence – A Threat to Life – Essay 2 (300 words)

Introduction

The stress level of people is on a rise and they look for ways to release the same. They enter into unnecessary arguments, shout loudly and even make use of physical force to release their frustration and anger. This aggression is often seen on the roads. Road rage is said to be an outcome of the rising stress levels and the diminishing sense of self control among people. Often a small argument turns into a physical fight and results in murder.

Road Rage – A Threat to Life

Road rage has taken several lives. Many people have become a victim of road rage over the past few decades. The cases are on a rise and the scene is getting uglier by each passing day. It seems like some people take on the road just to release their stress by getting into a physical or verbal fight with other people. People pick up fights for small reasons and end up shooting the victims before they even realize what is going on.

Strict Laws Must be Enforced

There is a dire need to enforce strict laws against people indulging in road rage. Lack of any strict laws to tackle road rage is one of the main reasons behind the increasing numbers of such cases. Our system takes action only when a serious crime takes place as a result of road rage.

People indulging in arguments or even physical fights on the roads or threatening to kill each other are not taken seriously. Not much action is taken against them. They are just warned and left to head on their way and that is if the police officials reach the spot on time. In most cases, road rage victims are hit and left crying on the road and no one is there to listen to them.

Road rage has become a serious threat to life. Such cases should be dealt with seriously. People indulging in the same should be punished severely and fined heavily for such behaviour. This is the only way to bring down such cases.

Essay on Road Rage – Can We Avoid It – Essay 3 (400 words)

Road rage includes violent incidences wherein people get into arguments or serious fight with other travellers or drivers on the road. In many such incidences people injure or kill the other party in the heat of the moment.

The main reason for the rise in such cases is said to be stress caused due to various reasons including poor traffic conditions, extreme weather conditions, time constraint, slow/ rash driving and honking. While the issue raised by the person indulging in road rage may be big at times however in most cases the issues are almost negligible. Everything happens in the heat of the moment and can very well be avoided.

Avoid Being Road Rage Victim

Most people leave their home to reach their destination timely and get back home safely. They are focused on their work and are least interested in pulling a fight on the road. Even as they have no intention of causing harm to anyone many times they end up in unnecessary brawl on the roads and become a victim of road rage. Many people have lost their lives in the event and others have been injured seriously for no fault at all.

People must take a cue from these cases and avoid entering into any kind of argument with anyone on the road. Even if someone acts angrily or accuses you of something you should stay calm and avoid any further discussion over the matter. You never know the intention of the other person. Most people who engage in road rage are frustrated with life in general and do not need a real reason to argue or create havoc. Trying to state your point to such a person is of no use. All he wants is to provoke you and get into a fight to release his stress and frustration.

It is wise to distance yourself from such a person and head to your destination. There is no harm in apologising just to satisfy his ego and get out of the situation even if you are not at fault.

Traffic Police Must Stay Vigilant

In India, we hardly see traffic policemen on the roads. This encourages people to behave the way they want. They feel that they can do anything and get away with it as no one is watching. Deploying traffic police on the roads is one of the best ways to avoid road rage cases. Traffic police officials should stay vigilant at all times and take serious actions against those indulging in such unlawful acts.

Thus, road rage cases can be avoided to a large extent with the intervention of traffic police officials. These can also be avoided if the road rage victim stays calm and does not respond to the person engaging in road rage.

Essay on Road Rage in Delhi – Essay 4 (500 words)

Delhi is one of the most crowded cities in the country. The number of vehicles on the Delhi roads is increasing by the day and so are the cases of road rage. Delhiites are known for their boldness and aggression and the same is evident on the Delhi roads. Though we wish it was put to good use.

Anything can Lead to Road Rage in Delhi

There is a lot of power play in Delhi. A number of rich families reside in the city and a large number of wannabes arrive here every day. Every individual here wants to prove to be better than the other and this fierce competition is seen on the roads too.

This is one city where road rage springs up for the smallest of reasons – something as small as overtaking a car can result in road rage in Delhi. Instead of understanding that the person overtaking may genuinely be running late, people in Delhi take it on their ego. They cannot bear people overtaking them and usually the youngsters try to speed up their car to chase the other party and stop it to raise the issue.

This results in heated argument between the two. People here do not just restrict to foul language. They begin to hit each other within no time and often end up in serious injuries. The cases of road rage among the younger generation are higher.

Cases of Road Rage in Delhi

The cases of road rage in Delhi can give shivers down the spine. Several innocent people in the city are killed due to road rage every day. Here are some such cases that have taken place recently:

  • Two people objected to a person smoking while driving the car. They requested him to drop the cigarette. This person got so furious at their objection that he rammed his car on their bike thereby killing one of them.
  • Recently an argument over removing a scooter from a particular place resulted in road rage. A college student was beaten with sticks and hit with an iron road owing to this issue. He incurred serious injuries.
  • People in Delhi are so blinded by the power of their money and links with affluent people that they do not even hesitate thrashing the police officials. Two traffic policemen were recently beaten by a group of people as they issued a challan to a minor riding a bike.

These are only few examples. A number of other such road rage cases take place in the city each day.

The reasons for road rage in the aforementioned cases are extremely petty and do not call for such an aggressive behaviour. Besides, even if the issue is big people must report the problem to the traffic police officials and get it sorted through the right channel rather than misbehaving and indulging in heinous behaviour on the road. Traffic police must be deployed at every nook and corner of the city and they should stay vigilant at all times. Strict action must be taken against anyone who indulges in road rage. No one should be spared. This is the only way such cases can be brought down.

Long/Descriptive Essay on Road Rage Accidents – Causes, Consequences and Solutions – Essay 5 (600 Words)

Road rage accidents have become extremely common these days. It is sad to see people indulging in such unlawful acts and getting away with it most of the times. Stress is said to be one of the main reasons for these heinous acts but this reason doesn’t seem justified at all. Shooting and killing people on the road to release stress, frustration and anger? Where are we heading as a society?

Causes of Road Rage Accidents

Here are some of the common causes of road rage:

  • Traffic Condition

The traffic in most parts of our country is not managed properly. Traffic jams, especially during the peak hours, are a common sight. Diversion of traffic due to construction of flyovers, underpasses or metro rails is also quite common. This can cause frustration and result in road rage.

Slow driving by a person can also trigger anger and result in a case of road rage.

  • Lane Change

Many people change lanes while driving in an attempt to move faster. This can be quite frustrating for the other drivers and cause road rage.

  • Weather Conditions

Extreme heat can raise a person’s temper. Standing in traffic for long amid scorching heat can thus be yet another cause of road rage.

  • Drink and Drive

When a person is drunk, he has no sense of self control. People often create a brawl in public after drinking. The chances of indulging in road rage become extremely high when a person drinks and drives.

Consequences of Road Rage

Road rage can have numerous negative repercussions on the victim as well as the person who initiates road rage. Some of the consequences of road rage are as follows:

  • Damage to the Vehicle

The vehicle of the victim is damaged in many cases and the victim in turn gets enraged and harms the vehicle of the other party.

  • Police Case

Road rage can lead to police case at times. It can result in confiscating the license and important documents of the vehicle. At times, both the parties are punished for the havoc created and may require visiting the police station several times to get clearance. Charges are filed against those who cause severe injuries to others or kill someone during the event.

  • Fatal Injuries

People often get into physical fights during road rage and this can cause severe injuries. As a result, they need to spend several days in the hospital. In some cases, people become handicapped for life.

  • Loss of Life

In many cases, people lose their life during road rage.

Road rage can earn you disrespect in the society as it is an unlawful act.

Solutions for Road Rage Accidents

The cases of road rage can be brought down in a number of ways. Here are some possible solutions for road rage accidents:

  • Victims must Avoid Arguments/ Fights

Road rage victims must stay calm and not get provoked if a person tries to pick a fight with them. Instead of arguing with them or using physical force they should try to avoid any kind of discussion on the matter and head to their destination.

  • Spectators Must Act Smart

People who gather around during such events must not just stand and watch the fight. They must call the police immediately. They should also try to pacify both the parties.

  • Strict Punishment

Even a small verbal spat on the road must be taken up seriously and people must be issued written warning or taken to the police station to give a written apology for their act. They should be given harsh punishment if they indulge in such an act the next time.

  • Act Responsible

People must act like responsible citizens. They should not drink and drive. They must also take it as their responsibility to maintain peace in their city rather than creating unnecessary havoc.

It is high time the people in power should take strict action against people indulging in road rage. This is a serious issue. The safety and security of the citizens should be the prime concern of the government and it can be achieved only if such issues are curbed.

Long Essay on Road Rage – Essay 6 (800 Words)

“Road Rage” refers to aggressive driving on road, grossly neglecting the safety of self as well as others. There could be many psychological factors triggering road rage and the consequences could be fatal, causing death and injury. An aggressive biker or car driver, racing with others even without provocation is a classic example of road rage. The incidents of Road Rage violate the road safety rules and seriously compromise the safety of other road users.

Examples of Road Rage

Usually the term Road Rage is used to refer to an aggression displayed by a driver to the driver or occupants of other vehicles. There are many examples of road Rage like – intentionally tailgating, making rude and indecent gestures, shouting abusively at other drivers, racing without provocation, continuously honking to show arrogance, ramming other vehicles on purpose and intentionally blocking their way or forcing them to stop. These are the most common examples of Road Rage.

Reasons of Road Rage

It is an understandable fact that aggressive driving varies with age, gender and other factors. Drivers between the age group of 20 to 40 are more likely to involve in tailgating, honking and abusing other drivers/riders or pedestrians on road. Younger drivers on the other hand are more likely to involve in over speeding, racing and overtaking an unsuspected driver or rider. Also, women are much less likely to get involve in Road Rage than men.

Reasons for Road Rage however could be personal or psychological, depending on the situation. The aggression that a driver displays on road could have resulted from a bad personal experience, anguish, distress, frustration or sometimes depression. A burden to reach on time and a mind occupied by stress and fear is a perfect ingredient for Road Rage.

Alcohol also plays a significant role in triggering the incidents of Road Rage, as it impairs one’s ability to think rationally and make correct judgments. A driver under the influence of alcohol is most likely to initiate road rage and compromise his as well as other’s safety.

Adolescent drivers below the permissible age limit for driving are most likely to involve in mindless racing, over speeding and performing stunts. These acts not only constitute gross traffic rules violation, but also seriously threaten the life and safety of other road users.

Solutions to Road Rage

1) Exercise Self Control

The basic rule to nip any incident of Road Rage in bud is – don’t provoke, neither get provoked. If you are late for job, stressed out and struggling in traffic and a driver suddenly tries to move ahead, blocking your way. Don’t get enraged as it would only escalate the situation leading to fatal consequences. Keep calm and let him move, maintaining your dignity. Similarly, whatever the situation may be, you should never provoke other drivers or passengers.

2) Don’t Drink and Drive

Driving under influence of alcohol is the most significant causes leading to Road Rage. Alcohol interprets with one’s ability to think, judge and make decisions apart from instilling over confidence and aggressive behaviour. While driving under the influence of alcohol you are most likely to provoke, insult and yell at other drivers. It would be a great decision to let the chauffer drive the car while you relax in the back seat.

3) Don’t Honk too Much

Honking too much of horn might be provocative to other drivers and perceived as a challenge, more so if they are caught in a traffic jam or stressed over something else. So avoid honking unnecessarily and understand that everyone is in a hurry as you are and there is a need to exercise patience.

4) Don’t Stop

Don’t stop your vehicle if confronted by a rogue driver. In case if you are forced to stop, make sure that you stay inside the securely locked vehicle, until help arrives. Always, no matter what, avoid an argument and confrontation, as it would only further escalate the situation, resulting in harmful consequences.

5) Stricter Penalty

Stricter punishments and penalties for those involved in road rage will stop the offenders from breaking the law. Persistent police vigils against drunken driving and other similar offences, must be hiked 24/7. Zero tolerance policy for any road rage offence should also be ensued, and perpetrators must be booked instantly giving them no time to excuse.

Road Rage is a criminal offence and the law enforcement agencies must deal with offenders strictly. It is also the moral obligation of any driver, to display maturity and concern for the safety of others. We should resist from venting our own frustration and stress onto other poor unsuspecting road users or drivers. Life is much precious, more than the issues those occupy our mind. Extreme caution and care must be exercised while driving/riding on road, avoiding arrogance and negligence, as it might have fatal consequences.

Road Rage and the Possibilities of Slow Driving Essay

Introduction, driving slowly, planning ahead, road rage is unhealthy.

Position: There is no need for road rage.

Thesis and essay map: There is need for everyone to slow, be calm and considerate as this will bring sanity to our roads and eliminate unnecessary outrages and accidents.

There is need for all the road users to slow down and drive carefully. As a matter of fact road rage result from the feeling that time is wasted on the road. This is a realistic concern as one cannot afford to be always late for work, school, or business meetings. In order to avoid rushing on the road in order to beat deadlines one should wake up early to create enough time.

Waking up early will enable a person not to rush against time. One will have enough time and will be in a position to drive within the required safe speed limits. Since there is enough time, a driver will likely not be easily angered by a slight delay caused by a fellow driver on the road.

There is a need for everybody to plan ahead and give enough allowance for a day’s activities. By planning ahead and giving an allowance of, for instance, ten minutes for all the activities that are likely to be executed in a day where driving will come in then it is possible that drivers will not be rushing on the road attempting to beat deadlines.

Adding some time to the expected travel time puts one in a good position to stop for gas, carefully and safely navigate through the snowy roads and construction sites. Adding extra time to the expected time makes it possible for one to drive calmly.

There is a need to play calm music in your car. Playing of calm music in a car is especially helpful when one is caught up in a heavy road traffic which will likely take time to navigate away from.

When one is caught up in a traffic jam and time is running out then playing aggressive music is not the best option. Aggressive music will likely trigger aggressive behaviour thus there is need for some cool relaxing music without necessarily a lot of bass (Hersen 75). Cool music will go a long way to cool tempers and anxiety which build up as one spends more caught up in a traffic jam.

There is a need for drivers to understand that giving up to anger has a long term effect on their health. People who are vulnerable to anger are more likely to suffer from heart attack. Shouting every time you are on the road will mean that you shout and get absurd everyday in your life. Subjecting one’s emotions to sad moods on a daily basis is simply stressing your body on a daily basis which likely build up to a depression point (Hersen 75).

Driving slowly and carefully will lessen the cases of road rage. People should wake up early enough so as to create enough time for driving slowly. There is also a need for people to plan their daily activities early and give some time allowance to the expected driving time. Giving time allowance makes it possible to cover unexpected delays such as stopping for gas and unexpected traffic jam.

In case one is caught up in a traffic jam then there is need to sooth your emotions with cool music as opposed to loud music with a lot of base which will likely make one aggressive. Lastly drivers should appreciate the fact that getting angry, shouting and cursing all the time they are on the road is not good for their health.

Essay on Road Rage 500 Words in English

Below we have provided Road Rage Essay in English, suitable for class 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10.

Road rage refers to the violent acts, aggressive or angry behaviour shown by the drivers on road vehicles. These acts may include rude behaviour, verbal abuse, offensive gestures, physical threats & dangerous driving methods which may cause harm to other drivers or the people on the road, including pedestrians. It sometimes leads to severe damages of life & property, severe cases leading to death.

The leading causes for displaying such kind of activity are to intimidate others or to vent out frustration, stress & anger. Strategies for the same may be many like honking, swerving, attempting to fight etc. It may not sound that dangerous, but it is deadly. It is a widespread hazard of congested, busy & fast-paced roads.

Causes of Road Rage

Generally, the leading causes of road rage are stress & frustration. Aggressive drivers lose their patience & calm, leading to such dangerous activity. Driving under the influence of alcohol sometimes leads to such kind of activity as the person is not fully aware of the actual scenario & the risks involved with these acts. They also sometimes drag themselves to fight with others on the road leading to aggressive activities. Shortage of time or getting late also gives rise to such pieces of evidence. For instance, a person who is in a hurry rushes vehicle with high speed without caring about the safety of others on the road.

These fast actions which do not give time to think about what is going wrong, lead to a significant loss. At other times drivers are in a rush for money or any personal issue, in which situation they tend to stop thinking about anything else. Due to stress & time pressure, they lose track of people around them. This leads to a competitive environment surpassing safety. Nowadays there are more teens behind the wheels, who try to do a different kind of adventures on the road. They love fast driving & are very impatient. They often try to surpass safety to save time & for fun also sometimes, which is one of the causes of road rage.

Effects on Drivers

Road rage affects all the drivers; whether involved, you are involved directly or indirectly. The behaviour of stressful drivers depends on the coping abilities of an individual. Instead of getting angry, which are beyond others control, the drivers must develop patience. Controlling our own emotions on wheels are essential. Developing better driving habits with patience helps us to tackle the situation to some extent. Drivers who experience road rage are also more prone to commit more traffic violations.

There is a direct relationship between stress or frustration & road rage. Few more factors which need to be taken care to reduce the road rage cases are the strict prohibition of driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol. The younger age group of people are most likely to get involved in road rage. Mostly acts of drivers who drag into road rage can be studied according to their behaviour on the road & must be avoided as far as possible. Most cases of road rage take place due to traffic, parking spots disputes, rude gestures, increase speed, to run a red light, to follow and lane changes.

Scope of Road Rage

Almost over eighty-four thousands road rage incidences take place every year. Countless road accidents take place every year. However, road rage cases always do not lead to accidents, but these indeed involve aggressive acts. Any individual may commit this type of activity having no boundaries on gender, ethnicity, age or culture.

Road rage cases are results of misunderstanding, carelessness or ignorance on minimal activities on the road. Everyone always does not do everything knowingly. However, most people take these things wrongly, which develops into road rage. Almost all the drivers have experienced road rage at some point in time. It gets dangerous if a driver does not know how to control the anger & have patience.
