24 Questions to Help You Plan for Your Future Marriage

A future marriage begins with the proposal of a serious four-word question: “Will you marry me?”

A positive response then launches thousands of questions to navigate together — from venues and colors to cake flavors and what items make the gift registry. But if couples put off planning for the marriage until after the honeymoon, they miss valuable time getting to know the one they’ve chosen to partner with for the rest of their lives.

Jared and I dated for four years, so by most standards we already knew each other pretty well. Yet as our wedding date drew closer, hypothetical questions gained real-life context. The deeper level of commitment we had made through our engagement helped cultivate a safe space not just for wedding planning but also for marriage planning and dreaming of how we wanted to build our life together.

Below are some conversation starters we found helpful as we began planning for our future marriage . As you approach these topics, I encourage you not to limit yourselves to the “what” questions. Leave space to explore the “why” and “what do you mean by…” behind each of your perspectives. This discovery process often unearths experiences and heart needs that may otherwise go unspoken. Searching your hearts and sharing answers to the deeper questions provide rich opportunities to better understand yourselves and each other.

Relationship check-in

Beyond wedding deadlines and decisions, create regular habits of checking in on how both of you are handling the wedding preparations and how you feel about your future marriage.

  • What are you nervous about?
  • What are you most excited about?
  • What areas of life and teamwork are we excelling at as a couple? Where do you see room to grow?
  • How can we consider each other throughout our wedding planning and on our big day?

As believers, personal faith is the first priority in our lives. And as a spouse, the relationship you have with God directly affects your marriage and your family dynamics.

  • How would you describe the role God plays in your life right now?
  • What role do you want God to play in our life and relationship moving forward?
  • What aspects of faith are difficult for you?
  • What do you want our children to know about God? How will they learn that about Him by watching the way we live?

Ready to Wed

The engagement season is often full of optimism and dreams for your future. It’s also a significant time to start (or continue) conversations about what you’d like your new combined future to look like, especially regarding hopes or assumptions for how things will change once you’re wed. Do you expect that he won’t play video games with his friends as often or that she is prepared to stop online shopping to save for the new house ? Talk about it.

  • What do you see in the way I live right now that you think may need to change in our future?
  • What are your goals and how are you currently working toward them? (Use this question to talk about finances, education and career aspirations.)
  • What are your perspectives on saving and stewarding finances?
  • How do you envision our daily home life, including household responsibilities and parenting roles?

Life pleasures

Dating life offers a variety of fun experiences. Most date nights don’t center around a trip to the grocery store or cleaning the bathrooms. As you begin planning for your future marriage together, it’s helpful to identify what life pleasures are priorities to each of you so you can plan accordingly.

  • What creature comforts are important to you?
  • Would you rather spend money on food, clothes, décor or activities?
  • What lifestyle choices are most important to you (travel, ideal home, car, generosity)?
  • How do you define career success? For example, is a fulfilling job more important than financial success? Would you rather have more free time and less money — or more money and less free time?

Marriage turns you and your spouse into an immediate family. Use this season to plan for how your new priority family unit will change your family relationships and how your family may grow in the future.

  • What role do you see our extended families playing in our daily lives?
  • What’s hard or concerning for you about the family dynamics you’re marrying into?
  • What family traits, cycles, or traditions would you like to continue in our family? Are there any you hope to begin instead?
  • What dreams do you have for growing our family (including children, pets, timelines and family roles)?

You’ve already talked about many dreams through the questions above. What other dreams remain?

Reflect on any promises you’ve made to yourself about what your future would or wouldn’t be like. I’d promised myself that I wouldn’t have kids until I reached a specific dollar amount in my bank account. Sharing that inner vow with my husband was helpful in addressing fears I had about our financial future and determining if I wanted to maintain that stipulation before our family could grow.

  • What other dreams or goals haven’t you talked about yet?
  • Do you find it hard to dream about your future? Why do you think that is?
  • As you consider difficulties from your past, are there any dreams or promises you’ve made to yourself about avoiding these circumstances in the future?
  • Sometimes internal promises we make as children or young adults can limit our dreams later in life. Do you have any inner vows holding you back as we approach this new season of life together?

One of the most beautiful things about planning for your future marriage is that you’re not walking into it alone. Not only are you there with your beloved, you likely have other people in your lives who can provide encouragement and counsel along the way. Better still, God offers himself to be the third strand, weaving His presence into your marriage relationship ( Ecclesiastes 4:12 ). What questions have you discussed that you can now bring to Him in prayer? He’s ready as an active participant in this conversation and in all the ones to come.

An Open Letter To My Future Wife: How I Plan To Make You Happy Every Day Of Your Life

Hello, my future wife.

Whether you are reading this before you meet me, or stumble upon it after, I want you to know a few things.

The reason I am writing this today is because I can’t stop thinking about you, and I can’t stop myself from imagining how happy we will be. Let this letter be a promise to you that I will do my best to be the man I want to be for you.

I may not yet know all of the difficulties that come with a lifetime commitment, but I have enough relationship experience to know what I want and how I picture my life with the person I will commit to: you.

Those around me are a continuous source of education and inspiration on how I want our relationship to be. So here and today, I vow to try my best to do the following:

I promise to do my best to make you beam daily, so count on many surprises. Your smile will be my priority. I get weak knees when anybody smiles, so just imagine the effort I will make to be the source of yours.

I promise I will always look at you with the same adoration as I did the moment I realized I loved you.

I promise to try to ignite the same sparkle in your eyes I see when you’re surprised, inspired, motivated or when you are about to lean in to kiss me.

I promise to hold your hand when we’re 80 years old with the same liveliness that I did when I crossed that line to hold yours for the first time. I vow never to let the excitement of dating me die down; I will surprise you with the location, the reason or the activity itself.

I promise to keep you guessing where we’re going next.  I promise to do my best always to interest you. I will keep reinventing myself, gaining new hobbies, new knowledge and new interests to keep you -- and myself -- entertained.

I promise to have new stories to share with you, and maybe I’ll retell the best ones again if you insist. Our friendship will continue to grow over the years.

I vow to challenge you to challenge yourself for the better; to make you think differently. I promise to try to feed off of your illuminating energy that will inspire me to do the same with myself. I will do my best to ensure that being bored never crosses your mind.

Even in grief and darkness, I promise to show you the different shades of the dark, and to help you find the tiny rays of light that are always there if you seek them. After all, there’s always worse than worst and better than best; everything is relative.

I promise to kiss you throughout our life together, with the same passion I had the first time I felt my lips on yours. When we kiss, I want it to slow down time -- just you and me engulfed in our feelings.

I promise to play the games you like to play.

I promise to do my best to remain physically attractive for you, and I will do my best to be healthy in order to keep up with our children and grandchildren; someone has got to teach them Muay Thai kickboxing. I’ll train you, too; I want you to know how to fight and defend yourself, just don’t use it against me.

I promise to help you to be healthy, both physically and mentally. I will cook and clean for us. Expect the best breakfast: traditional Armenian tomato and pepper omelets, followed by fruit salad with… well, I can’t give all the secrets out.

I promise to strive to be a role model for our children. I want both you and them to see me as a source of motivation. I want to inspire them in the same way that my father inspires me.

I promise to do my best to love your family as you love them and to be by their side as much as I am by yours.

I promise to always listen to you when you simply just want to be heard; when you want someone to vent to about something or when you want advice.

I will listen to you especially when you don’t feel comfortable sharing your thoughts with anybody else, and to the things you try to tell me when you’re not even speaking. I promise to always listen.

During our life together, I promise to make sure that you feel as though you are the center of the household -- I know you will be -- and I will always try to show my appreciation for you because of that. Being the man of the house is nothing without a woman.

I promise never to let my guard down in taking care of us. I know you won’t be one to be satisfied with the bare minimum.

I promise to do everything that I can for you without taking away from your independence physically, intellectually or emotionally.

I promise to create family traditions and to make sure that your legacy lives forever through our children.

I promise to encapsulate the moment when I realize that I am in the most magnetic, amorous and erotic love with you, not to let that feeling dissipate to the best of my ability and to relive it with you constantly, always.

Sincerely, Your Future Husband

Steps to Write a Breathtaking Wedding Essay

my future wedding essay

Let’s state the obvious fact by saying that a breathtaking wedding essay comes from the heart. You can always tell if people really mean what they are writing about. Therefore, the very first tips would be to listen to your heart. By focusing on genuine emotions, unique details, and your connection to the couple, you’ll craft a masterpiece that celebrates their love and leaves a lasting impression on everyone present.

Giving advice is definitely easier than actually writing an essay. Sometimes, it seems impossible to express all the warm and genuine emotions through words. No words seem to be enough. You always have the option to look for experienced essay writers for hire to help you. They will help you organize your thoughts and present them in an engaging and heart-warming way. Here are some more tips on writing an amazing wedding essay to guide you in the right direction.

Finding Your Story

A successful preparation process is already half of the triumph. Take enough time to decide what you are willing to write about before you get to the writing itself.

  • Define the essay goal. Is it a toast, a letter to the couple, a reflection on your relationship with them? Knowing the purpose guides your focus. Also, think about the emotion you want to create with your literary piece. It will help you find the perfect structure and choose the right words.
  • Uncover your narrative arc. When crafting a story about a couple, it’s important to choose a specific theme or event to create a cohesive beginning, middle, and end. Otherwise, there is a possibility of writing about everything and anything, leaving the audience puzzled about your main message.
  • Gather memories. Dig through photos, texts, emails, and conversations to rekindle vivid details and emotions. It might be interesting to incorporate the exact words used by the future bride or groom to describe each other.
  • Identify unique moments. Focus on anecdotes that reveal the couple’s personalities, their bond, and how their love has touched you. Prepare several of them to decide which fits your narrative best later on.

Crafting the Essay

Now that you have every little thing ready, it’s time to move on to the writing process. These recommendations will help you attract the attention of the audience and impress them with your exquisite writing style.

  • Make them interested in what you have to say. Start with a strong opening line that grabs attention and sets the emotional tone. In the case of using the essay as a toast, such a beginning guarantees that people will stop doing whatever they are doing and start listening to you.
  • Take brushes and start painting with words. Paint vivid pictures with sensory details and evocative language. Bring the scene and emotions to life. You aim to create a clear image of something you are describing in other people’s minds.
  • Balance humor and heartfelt. A well-placed joke can make your essay shine, but ensure it complements the overall sentiment. After all, it is not a stand-up comedy night but the most romantic event in the lives of the couple.
  • Highlight shared journeys. Don’t just recount events, explore their significance and how they shaped the couple’s relationship. You are free to increase the level of romance by describing how their life paths intersect at one point.
  • Weave in personality. Use quotes, inside jokes, or specific quirks to make the essay uniquely theirs. Even though you might be reading it out loud in front of other guests, you can include the inside jokes that only the couple will understand.

Polishing Your Gem

my future wedding essay

  • Structure with care. Organize your thoughts chronologically, thematically, or through a series of vignettes. Ensure a smooth flow. Try not to turn your essay into a collection of random facts. Even though all these facts can be fun and exciting, you will not create a wholesome picture for the readers.
  • Read aloud, edit carefully. Listen for awkward phrasing, repetitive words, and ensure clarity and emotional impact. You can use tools like Grammarly to polish your piece. Nevertheless, try to stay objective. Throwing all of your drafts into the garbage bin is not an effective approach.
  • Seek feedback. If you can’t decide whether your essay is well-written and has everything it should, ask for a second opinion. Get trusted friends or family to offer constructive criticism on flow, content, and emotional resonance.
  • Embrace your voice. Even though it is a good idea to look through some wedding essays for inspiration, don’t copy others. You are welcome to borrow some interesting writing techniques if you wish, though. Let your genuine affection and unique perspective shine through.
  • Practice delivery. If you’re delivering the essay, rehearse beforehand to overcome nerves and project your emotions effectively. Sometimes reading in front of others something so touching and personal can be even more challenging than writing it.

Even experienced writers often struggle with conclusions. What way is the best to finish your essay? Consider concluding it with a powerful statement, touching quote, or heartfelt wish that solidifies the essay’s emotional impact. If you lack your own words to create a strong final statement, look through some famous quotes that might fit the topic of your piece. Remember that you can unleash your creativity and write everything that you believe the couple will appreciate.

My Dream Wedding (Essay Sample)

My dream wedding.

It is typical for a person to have their ideal wedding when they finally meet the man or woman they want to spend the rest of their life with. Some already have a picture of the gown or tuxedo they will use in their head. As for me, I am a person who is very particular about everything, especially how the ceremony will become memorable and the food. These are 2 of the most things in a wedding for me. There will be at least 200 guests in my wedding because my family and friends should be able to join us. Accommodations near the vineyard will be available for them so they won’t be late or have to travel far to arrive in the area.

Are you looking for essay writing service which writes correct essays for pay ? EssayBasics always ready to help you.

The wedding will be set in Tuscany, Italy because I want it to be in a vineyard, on top of a hill. My gown will be a designed by Maggie Sottero because her collection is very chic and elegant. I do not want it to be too long because the wedding will be in a vineyard I want to enjoy the breeze as much as possible. The color motif of the wedding is off-white and marsala red which will be the color of my entourage. The flowers will be stargazers and lilies because they are my favorite. There will be an 8-piece string quartet and a wedding singer to make the ceremony more solemn and memorable. I already have a list of wedding songs that I want to be sung during the ceremony so they’ll know what to do. The next thing I want to mention is the menu which will be a combination of French and Italian. I do not want my guests to stand up to get food so they can expect that it will be a 7-course sit-down dinner. With classical music playing in the background. Since I know that most of my relatives are very particular about food, I will make sure that everything is scrumptious and made only from natural ingredients.

The bridal car will be a white Maserati because I want to arrive in style and it is one of the best Italian cars out there. The wedding ceremony will start at 5 pm because I do not want my guests to feel uncomfortable if it will be too hot. I will make sure they will not regret wearing their best cocktail dresses to me wedding because they will be comfortable. Since the wedding will be in a vineyard, only the best wines will be available for the guests to consume and it will be an open bar.

The design of the invitation will be done by my friend who is an excellent calligrapher so that it is handmade and guests can already feel the mood of the wedding upon receiving them. I do believe that a beautiful invitation sends a message to the guests that they are important enough to be part of this memorable experience in one’s life. The ring bearer will be my friend’s son and the flower will be my niece.

I want my wedding to be perfect and memorable because it is a time when 2 people will unite and take on the world together while sharing the love they will keep for a lifetime.

Hey Handsome,

I hope this letter finds you well and living a great life as you await our first meeting. As I write this, I'm thinking about how lucky I am to have you in my life, even though we haven't met yet.

I can't wait to hold your hand and look into your eyes, knowing that we're building a life together that is rooted in love and respect. I promise to always be your biggest cheerleader, your confidant, and your partner in crime.

So, wherever you are right now, know I am sending you all my love and positive energy. I can't wait to meet you and start our life together.

Hey Future Hubby!

I know we haven't met yet, but I'm already stoked to start this journey with you. Where are you? It’s time you headed this way, you handsome guy.

I'm looking for someone who can make me laugh until I pee, binge-watch Netflix with me, and be down for late-night pizza runs. Oh, and you gotta love dogs. Seriously, I have two furry babies that are my everything.

But beyond the fun stuff, I also want someone who can challenge me to be my best self and support me when I'm feeling down. Someone who understands that life isn't always perfect but believes we'll get through it together.

I promise to be there for you always, to hold your hand during the hard times and celebrate the good times with champagne and cake. I can't wait to see what the future holds for us.

Your Future Wifey

rose flower on handwritten note How to Write a Letter to Your Future Husband

Hey There Future Hubby,

First off, I want to say congratulations on snagging the best catch ever (aka me). I'm pretty sure you're going to be thanking your lucky stars every day for the rest of your life once we're together.

Now, before you start getting too excited, let me tell you what you're in for. I hope you like pizza and Netflix binges because that's pretty much my idea of a perfect night in. And if you're not into cheesy rom-coms then we're going to have some serious problems.

But all jokes aside, I'm really looking for someone who can make me laugh, who isn't afraid to be themselves around me, and who values communication in a relationship. Someone who can handle my quirky sense of humor and random dance parties.

I know that finding love isn't always easy, but I believe that when we finally meet, it's going to be epic. We're going to be the ultimate power couple, taking on the world one adventure at a time.

Until then, keep doing your thing, future hubby. I'll be here, dreaming about the day we finally meet.

Waiting eagerly,

There are so many last-minute things to cover leading up to your nuptials. But taking a sec to write a special note to your fiancé is totally worth it and, if you can't find the words, we've composed a guide on writing a letter to your wife on your wedding day. You probably haven't had more than a few minutes to tell each other how excited you are to make things official, so stealing away to put pen to paper will give you time to reflect on your love. And as soon as your bride-to-be takes a peek at what you've written, she's going to gush and melt, then pull herself together and wick away the tears before running down the aisle (yes, she's that pumped, we promise).

If you're feeling a little freaked out because your bride is usually the one who has a way with words, don't worry, we've gathered some helpful hints to take you from apprehensive author to confident composer. Remember, your soon-to-be wife won't be sharing this with anyone (unless you've both decided to read a few lines aloud for your videographer), so you can be as passionate or lovey-dovey as you'd like. Regardless, it'll surely make her melt.

Keep the following tips top of mind when you're writing and don't be afraid to get personal or show some vulnerability. If you've chosen to write your own vows , you'll be sharing them with an audience, but your love letter can (and, dare we say, should) be private, so if being a little comedic helps lighten the mood, do it. If you're comfortable only when you're complimenting someone else, then, by all means, hype up your love and tell her how stunning she'll be on the day you've been counting down to forever. And if you need to activate a little #somethingborrowed on your own end, feel free to pluck some lines from the works of your partner's favorite poet, pop star or playwright—you have our blessing!

1. A Sweet Hello

You might be tempted to go to romantic extremes, addressing your bride as "My Beloved," but we say go with what feels natural. If she's always been your babe or pretty girl, she'll be those things on your wedding day and all the days that follow. So, begin your letter with that sentiment. If she's one for social media trends, then think about her reaction to opening a letter with pics of the two of you as babies and thought bubbles that say, "Who will my bride be?" over yours and "Me, silly!" over hers. The day has finally come to embrace those new titles, so why not start her off with a smile.

2. The Reasons You Love Her

If your engagement kicked off with these reasons as part of your proposal, she already has a pretty solid idea of how much you love her. But, hey, flattery is good for the soul and it'll certainly make her giddy as she finishes getting ready and starts preparing for those all-important "I do"s. Now, when we say the reasons why you love her, obviously you can reference what everyone in your family and circle of friends knows—that she's kind (almost to a fault), that she's thoughtful, that she's ambitious and/or impossibly stubborn. But we're bigger fans of the specific reasons why she's stolen your heart from here to eternity. Perhaps she's the only one who has ever (and we mean ever ) cajoled you into a karaoke debut and, not only that, but a duet. Maybe a waft of her signature scent is all you need to turn a bad day around. Or, better yet, maybe the way she hustles in her career or how compassionately she treats her colleagues and supports junior staff is the example you care to aspire to. Tell her all the things you adore about her, because you know she's going to blush.

3. Your Favorite Memory of the Past

Taking a little walk down memory lane with a letter to your bride on your wedding day is every bit appropriate. You've been through a lot together, you've experienced some of the highest highs in your life and also some of the lowest lows, but it's what got you here. So, have fun reminiscing about the time she was relentless in her pursuit of Mario Kart 1st-place trophies (usurping you of your title). Let her know that you have a stained recipe saved from the night you two cooked together for the first time and you sliced your finger open cutting avocados for your birria tacos. And remind her that you fell in love with her fast and furiously—it wasn't because you couldn't wait to see her after every date, but because you couldn't possibly imagine going through life without her.

4. Your Hopes for the Future

Musing over your iconic past is fun, but envisioning what your future with her will look like is also what makes for a great love letter to your bride. If you feel like you need some inspiration for this part, do a little investigative journalism. Take a peek at the "marital advice" cards she got at her bridal shower and stowed away in her wedding-planning keepsake box. Or, casually ask the married couples in your families (parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, cousins, etc.) about what parts of having a ride-or-die for life are their favorite. And then rework their responses into what you look forward to with your own bride. You could also mention those milestones you can't wait for: going from renters to homeowners, adopting a child, throwing dinner parties and so on.

5. Your Gratitude for Everything They've Done to Put This Day Together

At the end of the day, your bride-to-be has probably thrown her heart and soul into every aspect of planning this wedding (you too, of course, and we're sure she'll be thanking you in her letter as well). Don't forget to say "thank you" for all of the hard work she's put in; it also couldn't hurt to say how well worth it it will all be in the end. You know the last bit of energy she has today will go toward getting dressed up and glam to impress you—so, if you can close with a little: "I can't wait to see you today. You're always gorgeous, but I hear that bride glow is on a whole other level," you'll be golden.

For the Overachievers:

Pair your love letter with a wedding day gift .

End your sweet inscription with one other thing you've been dreaming about: your wedding night . Bonus points if it comes with some newlywed lingerie .

Send it over with your bride's favorite caffeine fix or a Dirty Shirley (because bellinis are nice, but you know vodka's her favorite).

Okay, so you've been schooled on how to craft incredibly cry-worthy wedding morning correspondence to your bride, but how do the tips all come together? Check out this sample wedding letter to your wife we whipped up and, when you're feeling appropriately inspired, start outlining your own wedding-day original.

Hey Pretty Girl,

How are you doing? I know this day has been a long time coming, but we're done with the planning, so today, I just want you to enjoy it all. Don't worry about the flowers (they're perfect), don't worry about the ring bearers (they have fake rings, I promise), don't worry about the first dance (I've been practicing, I won't embarrass you). Everything is perfect (and even if it isn't, we can just do it all over in another 10 years with a vow renewal).

I've tried to let you know just how profound of an influence you've had on me over the last few years, but I'm pretty sure you still have no clue how much I love you. I love how obsessed you are over your glasses. You have seven pairs, in ALL of the colors, and you ask me which style's my favorite all the time. I think I've said they all were at various points in time. I love how excited you get to watch "Top Chef" every Thursday night—we've never perfected any of the dishes we've seen on the show, but you're still game to try as a super fan. It's very cute, I have to say. P.S. You think I knew you were the one on our 12th date, when we saw the Yankees play The A's, and you recalled all the highlights on the subway ride home, but it was actually on our third date. You randomly threw a penny on the ground and, when I asked you about it, you said that you do that every time you have extra change, so that whoever picks it up can have good luck for the day. That's who you are.

I'm so psyched to call you my wife, but in my head, you've been my forever since the very beginning. God, I love you. You're going to look like an angel today and I can only hope to measure up. I know our future is going to be awesome. We've done everything as a team for as long as I can remember and I think that's how we'll get things done from here on out. Today: newlyweds. Tomorrow: puppy parents. And one day: homeowners.

Thank you for making this day the best reflection of us as a couple. People are going to be talking about this wedding for years.

See you in a few! All my love,

Your soon-to-be [Husband/Wife/Spouse]

Wedding by the water with fireworks and cityscape - how to describe a wedding in a story

As you probably know, there are more than one type of wedding.

Here are some of the most popular types you can include in your stories.

Traditional Wedding

A traditional wedding is steeped in customs and rituals that have been passed down through generations

These weddings often take place in religious settings, with formal attire and a solemn atmosphere. The bride walks down the aisle accompanied by her father, while the groom waits at the altar.

Vows are exchanged, rings are placed on fingers, and the couple shares their first kiss as married partners.

Beach Wedding

Imagine saying “I do” with toes buried in the warm sand and waves crashing gently in the background.

A beach wedding is casual yet breathtakingly beautiful. Delicate seashell decorations line an arch under which the newlyweds stand for their vows. Sun-kissed guests can enjoy a relaxed celebration adorned with tropical flowers and soft music floating through the salty air.

Garden Wedding

In a garden wedding, nature becomes an enchanting backdrop for love to unfold.

Surrounded by blooming flowers and lush greenery, couples exchange vows under an elaborately decorated archway or rose-covered gazebo. The natural serenity of chirping birds adds charm to this intimate affair as guests bask in a whimsical atmosphere created by twinkling fairy lights strung between trees.

Destination Wedding

Destination weddings are celebrations held in a location away from the couple’s hometown, often in exotic or scenic places.

They offer a unique opportunity for couples to exchange vows in a memorable setting, from historic European castles to tropical Caribbean beaches. These weddings can also provide an exciting travel experience for guests.

Cultural Wedding

Cultural weddings celebrate the unique traditions and customs of a couple’s heritage.

These ceremonies are often rich in rituals that honor the couple’s cultural background, whether it be an Asian, African, Middle Eastern, or another heritage. Cultural weddings are a beautiful display of heritage, often featuring traditional attire, music, and ceremonies.

Modern Wedding

Modern weddings break away from traditional norms and often incorporate contemporary elements.

They may feature non-traditional venues, personalized vows, and modern decor. Technology, unique themes, and a more relaxed approach to planning characterize these weddings. Modern weddings reflect the couple’s personality and contemporary lifestyle.

Vintage Wedding

Vintage weddings are inspired by elements from a specific era in the past, like the Roaring Twenties or the Victorian period.

These weddings often feature antique-style decor, classic vehicles, and attire that reflects the chosen time period. Vintage weddings are perfect for couples who appreciate the charm and elegance of bygone eras.

Rustic Wedding

Rustic weddings are characterized by their natural, simple, and countryside-inspired elements.

They often take place in rural settings like barns, farms, or vineyards.

Decor includes natural textures like wood and burlap, and the ambiance is cozy and down-to-earth, reflecting a love for the rustic, outdoor charm.

Eco-Friendly Wedding

Eco-friendly weddings focus on sustainability and minimizing the environmental impact of the celebration.

These weddings use eco-conscious materials, local and organic food, and natural decor. Eco-friendly weddings are perfect for environmentally conscious couples who want to celebrate their love while respecting nature.

An elopement is a small, intimate wedding, often involving only the couple, a witness, and an officiant.

Elopements focus on the couple’s commitment without the extensive planning or guest list of a traditional wedding.

They can be spontaneous or planned and often occur in unique or meaningful locations to the couple.

How to Describe Traditional Weddings

Let’s start with how to describe the most common type of wedding.

Elements of Traditional Weddings

Traditional weddings are steeped in rich cultural and religious customs, each with their own unique elements.

These ceremonies often begin with a formal procession, where the bride is escorted down the aisle by her father or another significant family member.

The guests eagerly await her arrival, standing respectfully as she walks towards the altar.

Once at the altar, traditional weddings typically include a heartfelt exchange of vows between the bride and groom.

This deeply personal moment allows them to publicly declare their commitment and love for one another.

Following this emotional exchange, rings are exchanged as symbols of eternal unity and devotion.

After the exchange of rings comes one of the most iconic moments in a traditional wedding: the first kiss as a married couple.

This simple gesture signifies not only their union but also serves as an expression of love and affection witnessed by all those present.

Cultural Customs

Beyond these universal traditions, many cultural nuances can be observed at traditional weddings.

From vibrant Indian ceremonies filled with colorful attire and intricate rituals to elegant Chinese tea ceremonies symbolizing respect for elders – there is no shortage of diversity in how unions are celebrated around the world.

Some cultures emphasize specific customs such as breaking glass (a Jewish tradition) or exchanging leis (a Hawaiian custom), adding depth and meaning to these once-in-a-lifetime events.

Regardless of location or religion, traditional weddings consistently offer moments that celebrate love while showcasing individuality through various cultural practices.

Weddings are steeped in tradition, bringing together customs and rituals from various cultures around the world.

These traditions add depth and meaning to a wedding ceremony, making it a memorable event for all involved.

Here are a few common wedding traditions you might want to describe:

  • The White Dress : A popular tradition in Western weddings is for the bride to wear a white dress. Symbolizing purity and innocence, this tradition dates back centuries.
  • The Procession : At the start of the ceremony, the bridal party walks down the aisle in a specific order, with each member playing an important role. This procession sets the stage for the bride’s grand entrance.
  • Exchanging Rings : During this pivotal moment in any wedding ceremony, couples exchange rings that symbolize their love and eternal unity.

These wedding traditions may vary depending on cultural or religious backgrounds but serve as beautiful reminders of love and celebration.

The Wedding Photographs & Video

Capturing the essence of a wedding day, photographs and videos provide lasting memories for couples and their families

A skilled photographer will document each precious moment – from the bride getting ready to the exchanging of vows and the heartfelt speeches at the reception.

These visual mementos freeze time, allowing everyone to relive the joyous occasion for years to come.

Images crafted with expertise can showcase both candid moments – like giddy laughter and heartfelt embraces – as well as carefully posed shots that emphasize the beauty of the venue, decorations, and attire.

By incorporating various angles, lighting techniques, and artistic perspectives, photographers create a visually stunning narrative that tells the unique story of every couple’s big day.

Videos capture not only still shots but also movement, voices, music, and genuine emotions in real-time.

Skillful videographers fuse these elements together to create a seamless cinematic experience.

Through clever editing techniques that synchronize visuals with audio snippets such as vows or speeches, they craft an emotional journey that elicits tears of happiness when watched later.

Photographs are often given pride of place on mantelpieces or adorning walls in albums which bring back cherished memories whenever they’re opened.

Videos offer a more immersive experience by letting viewers rewatch every step down memory lane during anniversaries or family gatherings.

Think about how to describe the photographer, videographer, and their actions during the ceremony.

Here are examples of how to describe the wedding photos and video:

  • The photographer captured candid moments of laughter and tears.
  • The videographer recorded the exchange of vows for posterity.
  • Group shots froze memories of the bridal party’s joy.
  • A drone soared to capture stunning aerial views of the ceremony.
  • The couple posed against a breathtaking sunset backdrop.
  • Close-ups highlighted the intricate details of the wedding attire.
  • The photo booth churned out snapshots of guests’ merriment.
  • The slideshow played a montage of the couple’s journey together.
  • The photo album told the story of their special day.
  • The video montage edited together the most touching moments.

Writing Wedding Dialogue: Conversations and Speeches

Wedding conversations are filled with joy, anticipation, and a touch of nerves.

As guests mingle before the ceremony, their enthusiastic chatter fills the air.

  • Couples in love can be heard whispering tender words to each other as they exchange vows.
  • Family members excitedly discuss seating arrangements while trying to dodge last-minute mishaps.
  • Friends share heartfelt anecdotes during speeches that bring tears of joy to everyone’s eyes.

The dialogue at a wedding is brimming with emotion and serves as an important tool for telling the story.

It can reveal characters’ relationships, showcase their personalities, and provide insight into their thoughts and feelings on this momentous occasion.

In a well-crafted wedding scene, conversations flow naturally, reflecting the excitement in the air.

Dialogues capture both intimate exchanges between loved ones and larger group interactions that create a warm atmosphere for all attendees. From whispered confessions to humorous banter during speeches, every conversation adds depth and color to the narrative tapestry of describing a wedding in a story.

Examples of Wedding Dialogue:

  • The bride and groom exchanged heartfelt vows.
  • The father of the bride gave a tearful speech.
  • Friends shared humorous anecdotes during toasts.
  • Guests whispered compliments about the couple’s love.
  • The officiant’s words resonated with wisdom and warmth.
  • Couples reminisced about their own love stories.
  • Siblings playfully teased the newlyweds.
  • The best man’s toast was lighthearted and touching.
  • Guests gushed about the beauty of the ceremony.
  • The couple’s gratitude and love shone through their words.

The Reception: Food, Decor, and Entertainment

One of the most important elements of a wedding to describe is the reception.

You might want to talk about the food, decor, and entertainment.

Here is an example:

Here’s a glimpse into describing modern weddings:

  • Non-traditional settings: Modern couples are stepping away from conventional venues like churches or banquet halls, opting for unique locations such as vineyards, rooftops, or even private homes.
  • Personalized touches: Today’s weddings often showcase personalization through customized vows, creative themes that reflect the couple’s interests and passions, and interactive elements like photo booths or food stations.
  • Technology integration: In contemporary weddings, technology plays a significant role – digital save-the-dates and invitations are sent via email or social media platforms; live streaming allows distant loved ones to participate virtually; drones capture stunning aerial shots of the ceremony.

How to Describe Destination Weddings: Describing the Magic of Exotic Locations

Destination weddings offer couples a unique opportunity to exchange vows in breathtaking locations around the world.

  • Captivating landscapes : Imagine standing on a pristine beach, with soft white sands slipping between your toes and crystal-clear turquoise waters stretching to the horizon. Set against such a picturesque backdrop, destination weddings allow couples to create unforgettable memories surrounded by nature’s beauty.
  • Cultural immersion : From historic castles in Europe to vibrant temples in Asia, exotic destinations provide an immersive experience into different cultures and traditions. Guests can explore local customs, taste authentic cuisine, and partake in traditional activities that make their attendance at the wedding even more meaningful.
  • Intimate celebrations : By opting for a destination wedding, couples often prioritize intimacy over grandeur. The smaller guest list fosters quality time with loved ones and encourages deeper connections among attendees. Instead of an overwhelming ballroom affair, these weddings exude warmth as they become cherished shared experiences.

Whether it’s exchanging vows on top of a breathtaking mountain peak or amidst ancient ruins steeped in history, describing the magic of exotic locations brings life to destination weddings’ allure and romance without being repetitive or overly elaborate.

  • In these intimate gatherings, love dances gracefully in each corner as only the dearest ones come together to celebrate.
  • The atmosphere is enveloped in warmth and closeness, creating an unmistakable sense of intimacy that flows effortlessly through every interaction.
  • These small-scale weddings paint a picture of serene elegance, where the focus lies solely on genuine connections rather than extravagant displays.

Capturing the essence of an intimate wedding requires weaving words delicately to evoke feelings of cherished intimacy and tranquility.

  • Emphasize Meaningful Connections : Highlight how intimate weddings reflect deep bonds among loved ones who have gathered from near and far.
  • Create a Sense of Serenity : Mention the calm ambiance that pervades these gatherings, allowing couples to exchange heartfelt vows in tranquil settings.
  • Celebrate Personal Touches : Acknowledge how smaller guest lists enable couples to infuse personalized elements into every aspect – from decor to cuisine – ensuring their wedding truly becomes a reflection of their unique love story.

How to Describe Grand Weddings: Depicting the Extravagance and Opulence

When describing a grand wedding, it is important to vividly capture the extravagance and opulence that surrounds such an event.

Use sensory details to engage readers in the luxurious atmosphere.

Describe the lavish decorations adorning every corner of the venue – from cascading floral arrangements to shimmering chandeliers, painting a picture of wealth and beauty.

Highlight the grandeur of the bride’s attire – her exquisite gown adorned with intricate lacework and sparkling jewels.

Mention how each step she takes evokes elegance, accompanied by a subtle rustle of layers upon layers of silk fabric.

Discuss the groom’s stylish tuxedo, tailored impeccably to fit him like a second skin.

The readers should feel transported into this world through your words – enticed by the rich aromas wafting from tables embellished with silverware, crystal glasses, and delicate china plates.

Let them imagine savoring delectable courses prepared by renowned chefs serving culinary masterpieces on gleaming platters.

The ambience should be further emphasized through descriptions of live music played by talented musicians filling every corner with melodies that make hearts swoon. Paint a visual image of guests gliding across marble dance floors in perfect harmony as they celebrate love beneath dazzling lights that twinkle like stars.

Overall, evoke emotions such as awe and enchantment using eloquent language combined with detailed descriptions when depicting these extravagant weddings.

  • The venue was a grand palace with crystal chandeliers.
  • Guests were greeted with champagne and caviar.
  • The bride wore a couture designer gown.

How to Describe Outdoor Weddings

Outdoor weddings offer a unique blend of natural beauty and romantic ambiance.

They allow couples to exchange their vows under the open sky, amidst the splendor of nature.

Whether it’s a serene beachfront, a majestic mountain view, or the rustic charm of a countryside setting, outdoor weddings provide a picturesque canvas for your special day.

Here is an example to spark your creativity:

The sun casts its golden rays upon the meticulously manicured garden, enhancing the vivid hues of wildflowers that adorn every corner.

The gentle breeze carries with it a symphony of fragrances, mingling the sweet scent of blossoms and fresh grass.

As guests gather on elegant white chairs set amidst nature’s lush carpet, they are embraced by a picturesque backdrop of towering trees and rolling hills. Beyond the wedding altar constructed from intertwining vines and delicate blooms, a tranquil pond reflects the azure sky overhead.

Graceful swans glide across its glassy surface as if performing their own enchanting dance to celebrate this joyous union.

Sparkling fairy lights twinkle in harmony with nature’s own starry canopy as twilight slowly envelops the scene.

Guests indulge their senses further during an exquisite farm-to-table feast using locally-sourced ingredients—vibrant greens picked straight from nearby fields, succulent fruits plucked at perfect ripeness, and tender meat seasoned softly with herbs grown right here—a gastronomic journey designed to reflect not only love but also reverence for Mother Earth herself.

How to Describe Unique Weddings: Showcasing Unconventional Celebrations

Unique weddings are a delightful way to celebrate love, filled with unexpected and refreshing elements.

From the venue to the rituals, these unconventional celebrations create lasting memories for both couples and guests.

The location sets the stage for an enchanting experience that captures the couple’s personalities and passions.
  • Themes and Decor : Unlike conventional weddings, unique celebrations often embrace creative themes that reflect who the couple is as individuals. Whether it’s a vintage carnival theme complete with cotton candy machines or an elegant masquerade ball with extravagant masks adorning every table setting, these wedding decors tell stories that transport guests to another world.
  • Ceremony Traditions : Instead of following traditional ceremonies step by step, unique weddings may incorporate custom rituals inspired by different cultures or personal beliefs. It could be a handfasting ceremony symbolizing unity through binding hands with ribbons or exchanging personalized vows while their favorite song plays softly in the background.

Genre-specific Wedding Descriptions: Romance, Comedy, Drama

I thought I’d add these genre-specific examples of how to describe a wedding in writing.

Romance Genre Wedding Description

The romantic ballroom buzzed with anticipation. Soft candlelight danced on the walls, as the bride descended the grand staircase in her ivory gown adorned with delicate lace. The groom stood at the altar, his eyes shimmering with love and excitement.

The ceremony began amidst a symphony of heartfelt vows and whispered promises. Tears flowed freely as guests witnessed these two souls unite in eternal devotion. Love filled every corner of the room, wrapping everyone in its warm embrace.

Following the “I dos,” old friends and new acquaintances mingled over glasses of champagne, creating an atmosphere charged with laughter and joy. As day turned into night, couples swayed to dreamy melodies under a canopy of stars, celebrating true love that would endure for all eternity.

Comedy Genre Wedding Description

Bob’s wedding was far from ordinary – it was hilariously chaotic! Right from the start, everything went wrong: flower girls tripped over their oversized skirts while ring bearers ran off chasing butterflies!

Even during the vows, mishaps ensued – Bob clumsily mispronounced his wife’s name causing an eruption of giggles throughout the crowd.

But instead of fretting about perfection, they embraced these humorous moments wholeheartedly.

As evening fell, astounding dance moves took center stage as grandmas outshined professional dancers and uncles showcased never-before-seen disco skills. It was an uproarious celebration that left everyone rolling on the floor laughing – certainly a memorable event for years to come!

Drama Genre Wedding Description

In a dimly lit cathedral shrouded in mystery and melancholy, Sarah walked down an aisle lined with somber faces dressed in black attire. Bride and groom exchanged solemn glances while exchanging vows laden with both hope and sorrow.

Intense emotions crackled through every heartbeat as whispers echoed around them like distant thunder.

Each word spoken seemed suspended in time as if carrying within it not just their future but also the weight of past mistakes and lost opportunities.

The day unfolded with an air of melancholy splendor, every gesture heavy with symbolism. It was a wedding that vividly portrayed the complexities of human existence – a celebration not just of love but also of life’s profound mysteries.

Essay on A Memorable Wedding (998 Words)

February 19, 2018 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

Be it simple or grand, a wedding is a joyous occasion to be celebrated with all loved ones.

A wedding ceremony ties up all the customs and rituals necessary to bring together a couple who wish to commit to each other through marriage.

The wedding day is that special day that both the bride and the groom wish to remember and cherish for the rest of their lives. So what could make that special day an unforgettable one?

Could it be the festive environment, the grandeur of the decorations, the happiness of being surrounded by near and dear ones or the excitement of the beginning of a whole new phase of life?

Well, a memorable wedding day is without doubt all of these and a lot more.

Across cultures, wedding celebrations could stretch from a few hours to a few days.

Irrespective of the place or the people involved or their customs, a wedding in general comprises of a nicely decorated venue with a gathering of family and friends, the ceremony, the wedding feast and a reception to wish the newlywed couple.

Table of Contents

Wedding in a Typical Indian Family

A wedding involves a lot of people both on the bride’s and the bridegroom’s side of the families. All these people enjoy and remember the wedding from their own point of view. It is a unique experience for everyone.

The Families

Ever since a child is born, the parents put in their best efforts to ensure his or her good upbringing. They dream of a bright future for their child and provide all that is necessary to make sure that he or she becomes a responsible adult.

And when it comes to a daughter, along with all that they wish for her to accomplish, the parents also dream of a happily married life for her. They plan and save their income to ensure that she has her dream wedding.

For them the happiness of giving away their daughter, knowing that she would from then on continue the journey of her life with her better half and awaiting to see her start her own family, make the wedding day a memorable one.

Most of the wedding rituals are centred around the bride as it is she who is going away in marriage. It is because of this reason that the bride’s family has to make most of the planning and arrangements to host the wedding.

These elaborate preparations bring together close family members and friends and this itself could further add to the joy of the wedding event.

On the other hand the groom’s family enjoys being pampered by the bride’s family at every stage.

For them witnessing their son enter marital life, preparing to welcome the new bride into their family, hoping to share a daughter’s love with their daughter-in-law and to see the family grow would definitely make it an unforgettable day for the groom’s parents as well.

The Bride and the Groom

Any typical girl would start making plans for her wedding even before she could have met her future bridegroom. For her every small detail matters. Nothing short of perfection is acceptable when it comes to the most special day of her life.

A beautifully decorated venue, grand attire with suitable accessories, being in the spotlight are somethings that every bride desires for.

To top it all off is the thought of commencing a new journey in life with her companion, a relation she would treasure for the rest of her life.

Just like the bride, the groom also receives a lot of attention in the wedding ceremony.  Right from the pre-wedding celebrations, the groom is given a royal treatment, offered a lot of gifts and pampered by the bride’s family.

For both the bride and the groom the wedding is a commitment they make to love, honour and respect each other. It’s the first step they take to build their family, something they could look back down the line and cherish in their lives.

After the marriage ceremony, in most customs, the bride leaves her parents house to begin her married life with her husband and her in-laws in the marital house.

This can be an emotionally unforgettable experience for both the bride and her parents.

Relatives and Friends

A well planned wedding does not just concentrate on the bride and the groom. It also focuses on keeping the guests happy and entertained.

For the distant relatives and friends a wedding could be a delightful social gathering.  It can be an occasion to meet and greet old acquaintances and make new ones too.

It can be an opportunity to witness and learn about different customs and rituals across cultures and be a part of the festivities involved.

In many cultures pre or post-wedding celebrations involve singing and dancing or other forms of entertainment, making it an event worthy of remembering and cherishing.

Another important aspect that could make a wedding memorable is a tasty and sumptuous wedding feast. It plays a very essential role in the success of a wedding.

Like the differences that can be seen in the ceremony across cultures, there is also variety seen in the menu.

The type of food that is served and the way it is done can give an insight about the respective customs and traditions of these cultures.

A successful wedding is a much anticipated and cherished event in one’s life. It is a celebration of union of a match made in heaven.

It does not necessarily have to be an elaborate and grand one to always be remembered. The love and warmth of friends and family certainly could make it a memorable day for all those involved.

The Future of Marriage Essay

Marriage is an important stage in the personal life which is discussed in many cultures as a kind of the rite of passage. From this point, persons become ready to create a family when they are mature enough to take responsibility for their family and build strong relations with their partner.

Several decades ago, the family was discussed as the main social institution because society traditionally consisted of many families. Thus, marriage can be presented as the most traditional way to create a family and take a definite position within society. Nevertheless, the future of marriage and its significance for modern people is a debatable issue.

Although today marriage is still a significant stage in the personal life and family is discussed as the fundamental factor for the social development, the role of marriage declines, the rate of divorces increases, and the marriage is often perceived as an insignificant factor to live a vivid and full life.

To understand the future of marriage, it is important to refer to the main reasons for getting married. Americans are inclined to concentrate on the role of tradition, love, definite social and material benefits, and satisfaction of psychological and sexual needs as the major reasons to marry. However, to achieve the mentioned goals and satisfy needs, it is unnecessary to be married.

The position is actively discussed in modern society where the popularity of marriages decreases because of the people’s concentration on their own life and personal and professional development. Today, the family cannot be discussed as the persons’ primary goal.

Emphasizing the fact that marriage is not important for people today and that the tendency can develop, researchers, refer to statistics and divorce rates. Thus, the percentage of adults who are currently divorced, “which was only 1.8 percent for males and 2.6 percent for females in 1960, quadrupled by the year 2000”, moreover, “the percentage of divorce is higher for females than for males primarily because divorced men are more likely to remarry than divorced women” 1 .

From this point, it is possible to speak about the tendency to choose the independent life without the responsibilities of a husband or wife. Moreover, “the national divorce rate is close to 50% of all marriages” 2 . However, it is important to focus on the problem and discuss it from the other perspective. Thus, “for many people, the actual chances of divorce are far below 50/50” 3 .

In spite of the fact the general rate of marriages declines, it is still high in comparison with the rate of divorces. That is why it is impossible to state that the low rate of marriages and the high rate of divorces can affect the Americans and their visions of marriage’s role significantly. Modern people can reject the importance of marriage, but it is rather problematic to change the public’s vision of the traditional family based on marriage in some years because it is a long and challenging process.

People continue to find a kind of security in the traditional form of relations which has deep historic roots. However, it is important to note that the correlation of reasons for getting married changes with references to the development of the persons’ social needs and different global cultural tendencies. According to the latest statistical data, modern young Americans are inclined to choose the partner about his or her social and economic status 4 .

The factor of finances is important today, especially while paying attention to the modern contracts used to regulate marriages. Thus, many people choose marriage because of definite economic benefits. People can marry to improve their social state or gain a higher social status with the help of a spouse. It is possible to consider that future marriages will be more similar to business than to romance.

Marriage lost its legal and social status because those couples who seek for the successful partnership and psychological comfort are inclined to choose relations free from any contracts and duties. From this point, to choose marriage is to choose social security and the public’s approval. However, following the progressive and popular trends, young people choose their private independence 5 .

Modern women are often financially independent and do not discuss marriage as a way to improve their financial and social state. Men choose to marry when they seek for stability and understanding typical for the family relations. The decision-making process which is usual for business operations is performed by many young people today when they choose to marriage or not.

They assess all the possible advantages and disadvantages of marriages. Today, the idea of marriage often depends more on the economic benefits and less on the romantic aspects. Modern representatives of American society choose to get married because they assess all the psychological, emotional, sexual, and social benefits of the process. That is why the future of marriage as a significant stage in personal life is not clear.

Introduction

I have gone through various captivating episodes in my life but I do not think that there is any one that beats my wedding day. A wedding is a celebration that brings pleasure and joy to everyone involved including the family members and friends. My wedding took place on18 May, 2010. It was a delightful day and was characterized by the occasional peeking of the May sun. A cool breeze rustled in the atmosphere from the west giving a cooling effect to the wedding’s invitees as each took a seat on the gazebo walk’s on either side.

Cool classical music played in the background and I could not believe that I was finally getting married to the love of my life, Steven. What a memorable day it would turn out to be! Streamers and balloons fluttered in enclosed railings with the vibrant red, green, and blue colors radiating throughout the premises. Rows of luxurious cars stood parked on the far side of the venue’s left and the overhead sun made them glitter.

As I sat in the dressing room with the make up artist putting the final touches on my face, I could not stop thinking about how everything looked lovely and perfect. When she was through, I stood up and hugged her. I said to her, “I owe it to you for making me look so pretty on a day when I would like to look the best.” She smiled at me lovingly and gave me my bouquet of flowers. I headed towards where the groom and the entire audience were waiting. I clutched tightly to my dad’s hand as we slowly walked down the path leading to the gazebo. The background music started to fade slowly and was replaced by bridal choruses as heads abruptly turned towards the aisle’s far end where I was making my entrance. At the far end stood Steven, the best man, Geoffrey and the bishop who was to solemnize the wedding ceremony. As I slowly walked towards him, I could not help but grin widely at my soon to be husband. He had never looked so handsome in a black suit and I was simply blown away. I wore a white wedding gown that was strapless and my bodice was covered with embroidery. The gown was also sewn with pearl beads and rhinestones. In addition, I wore a golden veil with a matching headpiece. In my hand was the silk bouquet of French roses.

As we reached the last step of the walk, my dad who had been holding my hand the entire time let go and said o me, “You will always be my little girl and my love for you keeps growing each day.” This almost made me teary-eyed and I kissed him and stepped onto the gazebo. Steven gave me a stunning and reassuring smile and whispered to me about how beautiful I looked. I blushed and complemented him likewise. The bishop took the microphone and the ceremony officially commenced. He smiled at the audience as he made the opening remarks and welcomed everybody to the ceremony. The sound system had been very good and everything said was clearly audible to all who were present. The bishop conducted the opening prayer and all this time I could not wait to say “I do”.

After the ending of the prayer, the bishop then proceeded to the next step of leading us through our vows. My little nine-year-old cousin Johnnie who was holding the rings came over and handed them to Steven. As he placed the ring on my finger and uttered the magic words ‘I do’, I was still unable to comprehend how I had managed to land up with such a handsome gentleman as my husband. I took the other ring and put it on his finger as my love for him and also said ‘I do’. After exchanging the vows, the bishop then declared us as husband and wife. We then shared a passionate kiss as the entire audience applauded loudly with claps and cheers.

The solemnization of the wedding was followed by a popular Christian hymn ‘O Perfect Love’ and as the congregation sang it, I felt goose bumps all over my body. While everyone was singing the hymn, Steven held my hand once again and whispered to me “You have made this day so special for me and I can’t wait to see how our life together will be like. I love you!” It was a dream come true for me to be blessed with a life partner like Steven who’s not only a thorough gentleman but man immensely loving and caring person. He belongs to a close-knit family and is grounded in both family and Christian values. He treats me like the most special person in his life and I really believe no other man could have loved me so much. The bishop presented us our marriage certificate and prepared us to walk down the aisle. My chin went up and I felt so proud holding Steven. As we walked down the gazebo hand in hand, the bridesmaids and groomsmen followed suit and music took over once again. Everyone’s eyes were fixed on us and we received such admiration that I was absolutely carried away. There were many hugs and kisses as everyone congratulated my groom and me and wished us all the best for our married life.

Our families were so happy that the wedding solemnization ceremony went well and ending on time. My parents had planned a great reception for us and invited many guests. It was held in a lush green lawn with tons of flowers and balloons. The color scheme was decided by my mother and it was a mesmerizing combination of white and lavender purple. My cousins and friend together had planned a lot of things for the reception. They had games and an elaborate introduction of the families. The introduction was the most entertaining and hilarious part of the whole reception as my cousins mimicked all the members of the family and then we had to guess who they were introducing. Everyone laughed their hearts out and thoroughly enjoyed it.

After all the guests met us and blessed us with their good wishes my father announced our first dance. I was shy yet at the same time I was looking forward to it. Steven held my hand and took me slowly and gently to the dancing floor. He went down on his knees and in front of everyone asked me “May I have the pleasure of dancing with my wife?” I was so taken up by his loving gesture that I blushed even more than before. We had a beautiful dance and soon the dancing floor was filled by all the guests.

Weddings Essay Conclusion

It was so much fun and frolic at the reception party, including the cake cutting ceremony. We had a beautiful 5 tier cake with the same color scheme and I received a beautiful surprise by Steven’s mother. She presented me a beautiful pair of diamond ear rings at the cake cutting ceremony and gave me a huge hug. It was arguably the best day of my life and although it took place about two years ago, I still remember it like it was yesterday. Our love has grown so much in the last two years and Steven still continues to pamper and love me with all his heart.

The Unique Hell of Getting Cancer as a Young Adult

Women Dealing With Mental Health

W hen I got diagnosed with Stage 3b Hodgkin Lymphoma at age 32, it was almost impossible to process. Without a family history or lifestyle risk factors that put cancer on my radar, I stared at the emergency room doctor in utter disbelief when he said the CT scan of my swollen lymph node showed what appeared to be cancer—and lots of it. A few days away from a bucket list trip to Japan, I’d only gone to the emergency room because the antibiotics CityMD prescribed to me when I was sick weren’t working.I didn’t want to be sick in a foreign country. So when the doctor told me of my diagnosis, the  only question I could conjure was: “So Tokyo is a no-go?”

Around the world, cancer rates in people under 50 are surging, with a recent study in BMJ Oncology showing that new cases for young adults have risen 79% overall over the past three decades. In the U.S. alone, new cancer diagnoses in people under 50 hit 3.26 million, with the most common types being breast, windpipe, lung, bowel, and stomach. A new feature in the Wall Street Journal highlights the mad dash among doctors and researchers to determine what’s causing this troubling rise. Strangely, overall cancer rates in the U.S. have dropped over the past three decades, while young people—particularly with colorectal cancers—are increasingly diagnosed at late stages. “We need to make it easier for adolescents and young adults to participate in clinical trials to improve outcomes and study the factors contributing to earlier onset cancers so we can develop new cures,” says Julia Glade Bender, MD, co-lead of the Stuart Center for Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancers at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York City (where I am currently a patient.)

Doctors suspect that lifestyle factors and environmental elements, from microplastics to ultra-processed foods, could be to blame. But many adults in their 20s and 30s, such as myself, were otherwise healthy before their diagnoses. It felt like all those years of forcing myself to run, eat high-fiber foods, and choke down kombucha were for nothing.

Cancer is hell at any age, but the challenges facing young adults are especially steep, as the disease disrupts a formative period for building a career, family, and even healthy self-esteem, from body image to gender identity. It’s critical that our approach to treating and supporting these patients reflects the severity of this disruption. In recent years, a growing number of cancer hospitals have developed young adult-specific programming like support groups, information sessions on dating and sexual health, and even mobile apps to help counter social alienation. But there is still a long way to go.

Shockingly enough, canceling my trip to Japan was the least of my worries. Beyond the excruciating physical side effects of high-dose chemotherapy and a number of life-threatening complications, cancer pulverized my self-esteem into nothingness, as I watched peers get married and promoted from my bed. Thankfully, after switching to a new hospital, I found support groups that connected me with a community of peers who got it, as well as social workers who work exclusively with young adults and thus recognized many of my biggest challenges, like social isolation, financial strain, the dating nightmare, and hating my bald head.

Perhaps the biggest reason I resented cancer was for disrupting a milestone I’d worked for my whole life: a book launch. (My diagnosis came two months before my first book was published.) Young adulthood is meant to be littered with these kinds of professional and personal benchmarks, many of which are hard enough to accomplish without tumors; dating, for instance, is impossible for me even as a healthy person. Now I have to re-enter the pool older, weaker, and more traumatized?

“Young adult patients may be trying to assert independence from parents, establish a career or intimate relationship, or even be parents themselves,” says Bender. “Most will be naïve to the medical system or a serious health condition.” And so they require flexible, creative clinicians who can help navigate them “to and through the best available therapy and back to their lives, inevitably ‘changed’ but intact.” Not only do these patients need specialized psychosocial support, but research initiatives should prioritize developing treatments that minimize long-term toxicities.

Given that many young patients haven’t yet built financial stability and are often in some form of debt, organizations like Young Adults Survivors United (YASU) have emerged to support young adult survivors and patients through the financial overwhelm. Stephanie Samolovitch, MSW and founder of YASU, says that there’s still an enormous need for resources supporting young adult cancer patients and survivors.

“Cancer causes a young adult to be dependent again, whether it’s moving back in with parents, getting rides to appointments, or asking for financial help,” says Samolovitch, who was diagnosed with leukemia in 2005, two weeks before her 20th birthday. “Young adults never expect to apply for Medicaid or Social Security Disability during our twenties or thirties, yet cancer doesn't give us a choice sometimes. That causes stress, shame, depression, and anxiety when trying to navigate the healthcare system.”

When Ana Calderone, a 33-year-old magazine editor, was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer at 30, the most challenging part of getting diagnosed so young was “everything.”

“I felt like it set my whole life back, which sounds stupid because I was literally fighting for my life,” she says. “Who cares if I had to delay my wedding a year because I was still getting radiation treatment? But it was really hard at the time. Everything was delayed, and still is.”

During chemo, Calderone’s doctors gave her a shot that she still receives to try and preserve her ovaries, and she’s been able to try IVF twice. She says she had to proactively advocate for those things with her care team. While Calderone is currently cancer free, she still must take medication that has further delayed her plans to build a family. “I’m fairly confident I’d have a child by now if I didn’t get cancer. That’s been the most devastating part,” she says. “My oncologist would consider letting me get pregnant in two more years, which would be 4.5 years post-diagnosis, and even that is still a risk.”

For 32-year-old Megan Koehler, whose son was one and a half when she was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma, the hardest part “was knowing the world continued on while I spent days in bed,” she says. “My coworkers still worked on projects I was supposed to be part of, and the worst was knowing my son was growing up, learning to speak sentences, and just becoming a toddler without me – or so it felt that way.”

She remembers crying for most of his second birthday because she was in bed post chemo, feeling devastated that she didn’t have the energy to spend the day with him. During a 50-plus day hospital stay caused by an adverse reaction to a chemotherapy drug, she would Facetime him and cry when he spoke in sentences, because he wasn’t doing that before she was admitted. While she’s grateful for the support she had from her husband and mother, she felt alienated. “I spoke to a few people my age via social media, but no one in person. My center mostly catered to the older generations, so it was somewhat isolating. I did have a great relationship with a few of the infusion nurses who were around my age.”

While oncologists may be rightly focused on saving patients’ lives, there must be more consideration for quality of life during and after treatment – both physical and mental. “More questions need to be asked about their relationships, fertility options, and any mental health concerns or symptoms,” says Samolovitch. From a research perspective, initiatives must expand to pinpoint not only the reason for the rise of cancer in young adults, but find ways to screen and diagnose earlier.

Towards the beginning of my treatment, before I switched hospitals, my oncologist seemed to treat my concerns about self-esteem and hair loss as trivial compared to the real work of saving my life. At my weakest, I had to advocate repeatedly to get accurate information on cold capping, a process of scalp cooling that can preserve most of your hair during chemotherapy, and I had to beg again and again for a social worker to reach out to me, which took weeks.

It’s a beautiful thing that more young adults with cancer are surviving their illnesses. But that means they’ll have decades of life ahead of them. Providers must do a better job supporting young adult patients through all the collateral damage that comes with cancer and its treatment.

In some places, portable tube lights, which run on generators, are used. Young friends and relatives of the bridegroom dance to a drum and music beat. Some parades also feature fireworks displays. In rural areas, people are firing their guns into the air.

The procession was welcomed at the bride’s father, brother, and uncle of the bride with great fanfare. Members of the caravan decorated with flowers. The bride’s mother received the bridegroom with a plate of illuminated clay lamps. She also gives gifts to the groom.

Why Data Breaches Spiked in 2023

  • Stuart Madnick

my future wedding essay

And what companies can do to better secure users’ personal information.

In spite of recent efforts to beef up cybersecurity, data breaches — in which hackers steal personal data — continue to increase year-on-year: there was a 20% increase in data breaches from 2022 to 2023. There are three primary reasons behind this increased theft of personal data: (1) cloud misconfiguration, (2) new types of ransomware attacks, and (3) increased exploitation of vendor systems. Fortunately, there are ways to reduce the impact of each of these factors.

For many years, organizations have struggled to protect themselves from cyberattacks: companies, universities, and government agencies have expended enormous amounts of resources to secure themselves. But in spite of those efforts, data breaches — in which hackers steal personal data — continue to increase year-on-year: there was a 20% increase in data breaches from 2022 to 2023 . Some of the trends around this uptick are disturbing. For example, globally, there were twice the number of victims in 2023 compared to 2022, and in the Middle East, ransomware gang activity increased by 77% in that same timeframe.

Importance of Future Plans Essay

“Winging it” might sound like an excellent mantra for today’s generation, but in an ideal world, you must remain practical. In present times, we are all hustling to become the best version of ourselves, to improve our standard of living in the future. However, that is not possible unless you sit down and think about future plans properly, way ahead of time. It is only if you have the plan sorted out and the strategies in place that you can meet your intended and desired goals. Besides, you are working to save yourself a significant amount of time, money, and hard work. If you are sure about what you want from life, there is no getting sidetracked. You will be motivated to work towards your goal. Otherwise, you might end up wasting the prime years of your life trying to figure out your plans for the future. One excellent way is to encapsulate your ideas in essay form. It will also be helpful to you while applying for colleges and universities.

Catchy Titles for An Essay About My Future Plans

  • Where do I see myself in the next ten years?
  • A note to my future self
  • A recipe for future success
  • A blueprint for my plans
  • A guide for a perfect future
  • A conversation with my older self
  • The milestones I want to achieve
  • Engineer in the making
  • My strategic career action plan
  • Plan my future 101

Do not jump directly into writing; start with an outline instead. It is pretty easy to be forgetful about things when your mind is occupied while writing. If you face the issue of getting sidetracked midway through your writing, it will be solved. By following a blueprint, you will be including the details that are entirely relevant to your essay. You will see the bigger picture from the very start instead of just going with the flow. It might seem unnecessary and a waste of time, but an outline can save you a significant amount of time in the end. Also, the quality of future plans and goals essay will not be compromised. Why is that? Well, you will be jotting down all the significant points in advance so that when you start writing, no idea is missed.

Outline writing

“What are your plans for the future” is an essay written without an outline that is likely to be cataclysmic. Always begin your essay writing process by forming an outline that stays in line with the topic. For instance, when attempting a “what are future plans” essay, jot down all the points in chunks. So, your financial goals will fall in a different cluster than your family plans. Let’s just cut to the chase; you need to brainstorm first. Next, group the points that are somehow related. Give headings to those clusters, and voila, you have an outline!

Tips concerning writing a Future Plans essay introduction

A boring introduction is likely to provoke your reader to grab a coffee mug. Nobody wants that. Try to start with an engaging hook. In this case, you are writing about “what are your plans” and writing something lively. It will send good vibes to the reader as they will unconsciously receive the idea that your plans must be excellent. Next, give a background about your past achievements. Do not get carried away. This paragraph needs to be holistic yet short and crisp. The last line of your introduction part must serve as a bridge to the first body paragraph. Try to check a future plan example essay before you start with your essay.

Keep a strict check on the length of body paragraphs as they must be equal. Divide your plans for the future into several chunks. Every paragraph must be dedicated to one central area. The last line of each one should be written so that the reader does not feel in a different realm when they get to the next paragraph. Remember, your words must help the reader spiral down smoothly to the conclusion. So, transition words and connectors will help a lot.

Writing Conclusions for a Future Plans Essay

Now, most of you might have developed the habit of writing a conclusion carelessly. It is always treated as a foster child in the world of writing by many. Do not repeat this. Keep it as breezy as you wrote your introduction paragraph. A summary of your plans will not do justice. Instead, highlight the main points and end your essay with a positive future-oriented note. Before writing this essay, check out some future plan examples and not forget to see how people make future plans.

The last finishing touches before finalization of your essay require you to edit your work to perfection. Here it would help if you were doing the following:

Essay Revision

Revise your work for any structural or organizational problems. It means checking your paragraphing and the way you have used transitions throughout. Look out for instructions like the word count and formatting, and make sure you have done what is expected.

Essay Proofreading

It is a practice of going through your work again to identify any surface mistakes. These include typos, spelling mistakes as well as grammatical ones. You can take help from editing tools like Grammarly or turn towards a reliable friend to provide an unbiased and unfiltered review of your essay on future plans in life.

Make Citations

Finally, if your work demands you to insert references from other sources, do not forget to include them at the end of your essay about the future. A failure to do so, in that case, can mean a reduction in scores.

Short Example of a College Essay About My Future Plans

My Future Plans Essay

It is said that the future is unpredictable. However, it does not mean that we cannot prepare and make plans for it. Having plans are like motivators; they guide us all along. I happen to have a clear set of goals and aims. It does not stop here, as there are plan Bs and Cs too. Being a college student, I am open to the thought of having much turbulence in life.

My education and career goals are somewhat elaborate. I want to get a business degree from the finest business school out there. In the long term, I expect to become a marketing manager. For this reason, I have started working as an unpaid intern in several marketing departments to get experience. Other than this, I am also offering free sales services. It will polish my negotiation skills as I ultimately want to be someone who runs a department.

Apart from the financial goals, I plan to visit the Grand Canyons. The adventurer inside me wants to experience an adrenaline rush in the wild. The plan does not end here as the mountaineer inside me wants to attempt a climb at Annapurna. I have been practicing mountain climbing all my life, which I have been looking forward to. Next year, I plan to visit Dubai. The famous base jump from Burj Khalifa is on my bucket list.

Speaking of the bucket list, I want to marry jill, my fiancé. We have been planning our wedding since forever. A house in the suburbs, two beautiful kids, and peaceful life is what I want. To give my family complete attention, I have started investing my savings in multiple businesses. So, in the long term, I will not have to worry about supporting myself and my family. Like the other adventures that I have planned, I want to go on multiple vacations with my family.

Future planning has helped me stay positive. It has aligned everything that I do with the more significant goals. Without this bucket list, I would have never wanted to work as an intern. The hustler inside me wants to go on all of the adventures, from the base jump and Annapurna to hosting a birthday party for my 2-year-old. My plans are huge yet achievable, and the catch is that I have to take every step mindfully and stay determined.

You should be confident enough by now to write a future planning essay by yourself. Although, there are other ways to go about it as well. These can make your life slightly more manageable. What are they? Let’s find out:

Putin Didn’t Hate Navalny. He Envied Him.

Aleksei Navalny, seen from behind, standing in front of a crowd with his fist raised. There are flags and colorful balloons ahead of him.

By Nadya Tolokonnikova

Ms. Tolokonnikova is a founder of Pussy Riot.

It’s 2007, a warm, sunny spring day in Moscow. It’s my first rally, and I’m nervous. I’m 16, silly and shy, falling in love with courageous and loud people around me. I hear my quiet voice join others screaming, “Russia without Putin.” We lock our arms and together push the police out of the street. Russia could be free: It’s a new feeling for me. This is where I see Aleksei Navalny for the first time.

For the next 17 years, I watched my friend Aleksei rise from a Moscow blogger to a global moral and political figure, giving hope and inspiration to people around the world. He helped me and millions of Russians realize that our country doesn’t have to belong to K.G.B. agents and the Kremlin’s henchmen. He gave us something else, too: a vision he called the “beautiful Russia of the future.” This vision is immortal, unlike us humans. President Vladimir Putin may have silenced Aleksei, who died last week. But no matter how hard he tries, Mr. Putin won’t be able to kill Aleksei’s beautiful dream.

In the autumn of 2011, Mr. Putin announced he was going to become president once again, making it clear that he planned to rule Russia for the rest of his life. My feminist friends and I went to an opposition conference in Moscow to figure out our next steps. Young, riotous and radical, we walked like zombies through all the usual boring panels with sad speakers, poetry readings and sleep-inducing talks on human rights and democracy. It wasn’t inspiring because it was neither practical nor attractive. Yes, we all believed that Russia had to be free. But how do we get there?

And then Aleksei spoke about his anticorruption investigations. I can divide my life into before and after that speech. “We take a stick and poke at the bad guys with this stick, and you can do it with me,” he said. For all of us in that packed room, Aleksei made it feel not only that a free Russia was possible but also that we could get there with joy, laughter and camaraderie. No matter how long the path, you have to break it down into steps and take them one at a time.

That day, Pussy Riot was born. I realized that we needed to create our own set of tools to bring about change: direct, attention-grabbing actions that would be easily replicable, giving birth to a movement. Aleksei gave me the push I needed to create the first Pussy Riot music video, which was based on dozens of dangerous guerrilla performances in Moscow. I was too proud to ever admit it to Aleksei in person, but the idea to make the video came from his speech that day.

We made it our goal to become as effective and loud as Aleksei but with a feminist and queer lens. Months later, when my Pussy Riot colleagues and I were on trial for supposedly inciting religious hatred , there — standing in the courtroom among our family members and activists — was Aleksei.

Despite the support, we were sent for two years to a penal colony, a gloomy and hopeless place, where once again my only hope for political change in Russia came from Aleksei. It was 2013, and he was running a remarkably popular campaign to become the mayor of Moscow. In an attempt to silence him, the government sentenced Aleksei to five years in prison. Infuriated, Russians filled the streets, demanding his immediate release. Miraculously, he was released the next day, pending an appeal. I can’t recall any other opposition force in Russia ever having such power.

People say Mr. Putin feared Aleksei. But I think the reason he wanted to get rid of Aleksei was another emotion — a darker, more sinister one. It was envy. People loved Aleksei. With his jokes, irony, superhero-like fearlessness and love for life, he led with charisma. People followed Aleksei because he was the kind of person you wanted to be friends with. People follow Mr. Putin because they fear him, but people followed Aleksei because they loved him. Mr. Putin clearly envied this appeal. No amount of money in the world can buy love; no amount of missiles and tanks can conquer people’s hearts.

As a feminist, I’ve always found it inspiring that Aleksei, unlike many others in Russian politics, chose to surround himself with strong women — Maria Pevchikh , Kira Yarmysh , Lyubov Sobol — and trusted them in the highest positions of power in his camp. And of course, there was his love and respect for his wife, Yulia. It’s a stark contrast with Mr. Putin, known for his cavemanlike sexism, bragging , “I am not a woman, so I don’t have bad days.” Truly confident men don’t need to build their self-esteem at women’s expense.

“How is life in prison?” Aleksei asked me on the phone in 2013. “Not ideal but not too bad,” I answered. “One can survive here.” Aleksei’s team later told me that he recalled our conversation when he decided to go back to Russia after his poisoning in 2020. It was a characteristically brave decision. From his return to his death, it was just three years.

People say hope died with Aleksei. I see it differently: With Aleksei’s passing, a new sense of responsibility has been born. For many of us in Russia, Aleksei was like an older brother or a father figure, someone who was always there to clean up your mess. We lost him so painfully early, so prematurely. Now there’s no one else in the room. We owe it to Aleksei and his dream for a new beautiful Russia to carry on the fight.

My future dream.

Dreams are the seeds of our future. They give us direction and motivate us to work hard. My future dream is to become a scientist.

Why a Scientist?

I am fascinated by the mysteries of the universe. I want to explore and understand these mysteries as a scientist. I am eager to make new discoveries and contribute to scientific knowledge.

Path to My Dream

To achieve my dream, I will study hard in school, especially in science subjects. I will also read books, watch documentaries, and attend science fairs to broaden my knowledge.

My dream is not just about me. It’s about contributing to society and making the world a better place through science.

250 Words Essay on My Future Dream

Introduction.

Dreams are the fuel that propels us towards our goals. They are the visions that nestle in our hearts, guiding us towards the future we aspire to create. My future dream is to become an Artificial Intelligence (AI) researcher, a path that promises to be both challenging and rewarding.

The Allure of AI

The fascination with AI began when I first encountered the concept in a high school computer science course. The idea that machines could mimic human intelligence, learning from experiences and making decisions, was awe-inspiring. This initial fascination blossomed into a deep interest as I delved into the intricacies of AI and Machine Learning (ML) in my undergraduate studies.

Future Goals

As an AI researcher, I aim to contribute to the development of AI that can solve complex problems, from climate change to healthcare. I envision creating AI models that can predict natural disasters or diagnose diseases with unprecedented accuracy, thereby saving lives and resources.

Challenges and Motivation

The path to my dream is fraught with challenges. AI is a rapidly evolving field with a steep learning curve. However, the potential impact of AI on society motivates me to surmount these hurdles. The prospect of creating intelligent systems that can enhance human capabilities and address global issues is incredibly inspiring.

In conclusion, my future dream is not just a career goal, but a commitment to leverage AI for the betterment of society. The journey will be arduous, but the potential rewards, both personal and societal, make it a dream worth pursuing.

500 Words Essay on My Future Dream

Dreams are the fuel that ignite our imagination and push us towards achieving our goals. As a college student, my dreams are a blend of ambition, aspiration, and a deep desire to contribute to society. My future dream is to become a renowned Artificial Intelligence (AI) researcher, working on projects that can revolutionize the way we live and interact with technology.

The Fascination with Artificial Intelligence

My fascination with AI began during my high school years when I first encountered the concept in a computer science class. The idea that machines could learn, adapt, and make decisions like humans was intriguing. As I delved deeper into the subject, I realized AI’s potential to solve complex problems and make our lives easier. It could revolutionize healthcare, transportation, education, and even how we socialize.

AI Researcher: A Dream Career

Becoming an AI researcher is not merely about the allure of working with advanced technology. It’s about the opportunity to contribute to a field that has the potential to shape the future of humanity. As an AI researcher, I dream of developing intelligent systems that can assist in critical areas like healthcare, where AI can predict diseases before they become critical, or education, where personalized learning could become a reality.

Challenges and the Road Ahead

The path to becoming an AI researcher is fraught with challenges. It requires a deep understanding of advanced mathematical concepts, programming languages, and machine learning algorithms. However, I am ready to embrace these challenges, as they are stepping stones towards my dream. I plan to pursue a master’s degree in AI, followed by a Ph.D., to gain the necessary knowledge and research experience.

Contributing to Society

Beyond personal ambition, my dream is also fueled by the desire to contribute to society. AI has the potential to solve some of the most pressing problems we face today, from climate change to healthcare disparities. By developing intelligent systems, we can optimize resource usage, predict and mitigate the effects of climate change, and provide equitable healthcare solutions. My dream is to be at the forefront of these solutions, contributing to a better world.

In conclusion, my future dream is not just a career goal, but a life mission. The journey to becoming an AI researcher will undoubtedly be challenging, but the potential to revolutionize our lives and contribute to society makes it a dream worth pursuing. As I stand on the brink of my future, I am filled with excitement and determination, ready to step into the realm of AI, where dreams meet reality.

What is Presidents Day and how is it celebrated? What to know about the federal holiday

Many will have a day off on monday in honor of presidents day. consumers may take advantage of retail sales that proliferate on the federal holiday, but here's what to know about the history of it..

my future wedding essay

Presidents Day is fast approaching, which may signal to many a relaxing three-day weekend and plenty of holiday sales and bargains .

But next to Independence Day, there may not exist another American holiday that is quite so patriotic.

While Presidents Day has come to be a commemoration of all the nation's 46 chief executives, both past and present, it wasn't always so broad . When it first came into existence – long before it was even federally recognized – the holiday was meant to celebrate just one man: George Washington.

How has the day grown from a simple celebration of the birthday of the first president of the United States? And why are we seeing all these ads for car and furniture sales on TV?

Here's what to know about Presidents Day and how it came to be:

When is Presidents Day 2024?

This year, Presidents Day is on Monday, Feb. 19.

The holiday is celebrated on the third Monday of every February because of a bill signed into law in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Taking effect three years later, the Uniform Holiday Bill mandated that three holidays – Memorial Day, Presidents Day and Veterans Day – occur on Mondays to prevent midweek shutdowns and add long weekends to the federal calendar, according to Britannica .

Other holidays, including Labor Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day , were also established to be celebrated on Mondays when they were first observed.

However, Veterans Day was returned to Nov. 11 in 1978 and continues to be commemorated on that day.

What does Presidents Day commemorate?

Presidents Day was initially established in 1879 to celebrate the birthday of the nation's first president, George Washington. In fact, the holiday was simply called Washington's Birthday, which is still how the federal government refers to it, the Department of State explains .

Following the death of the venerated American Revolution leader in 1799, Feb. 22, widely believed to be Washington's date of birth , became a perennial day of remembrance, according to History.com .

The day remained an unofficial observance for much of the 1800s until Sen. Stephen Wallace Dorsey of Arkansas proposed that it become a federal holiday. In 1879, President Rutherford B. Hayes signed it into law, according to History.com.

While initially being recognized only in Washington D.C., Washington's Birthday became a nationwide holiday in 1885. The first to celebrate the life of an individual American, Washington's Birthday was at the time one of only five federally-recognized holidays – the others being Christmas, New Year's, Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July.

However, most Americans today likely don't view the federal holiday as a commemoration of just one specific president. Presidents Day has since come to represent a day to recognize and celebrate all of the United States' commanders-in-chief, according to the U.S. Department of State .

When the Uniform Holiday Bill took effect in 1971, a provision was included to combine the celebration of Washington’s birthday with Abraham Lincoln's on Feb. 12, according to History.com. Because the new annual date always fell between Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays, Americans believed the day was intended to honor both presidents.

Interestingly, advertisers may have played a part in the shift to "Presidents Day."

Many businesses jumped at the opportunity to use the three-day weekend as a means to draw customers with Presidents Day sales and bargain at stores across the country, according to History.com.

How is the holiday celebrated?

Because Presidents Day is a federal holiday , most federal workers will have the day off .

Part of the reason Johnson made the day a uniform holiday was so Americans had a long weekend "to travel farther and see more of this beautiful land of ours," he wrote. As such, places like the Washington Monument in D.C. and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota – which bears the likenesses of Presidents Washington, Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt – are bound to attract plenty of tourists.

Similar to Independence Day, the holiday is also viewed as a patriotic celebration . As opposed to July, February might not be the best time for backyard barbecues and fireworks, but reenactments, parades and other ceremonies are sure to take place in cities across the U.S.

Presidential places abound across the U.S.

Opinions on current and recent presidents may leave Americans divided, but we apparently love our leaders of old enough to name a lot of places after them.

In 2023, the U.S. Census Bureau pulled information from its databases showcasing presidential geographic facts about the nation's cities and states.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the census data shows that as of 2020 , the U.S. is home to plenty of cities, counties and towns bearing presidential names. Specifically:

  • 94 places are named "Washington."
  • 72 places are named "Lincoln."
  • 67 places are named for Andrew Jackson, a controversial figure who owned slaves and forced thousands of Native Americans to march along the infamous Trail of Tears.
