Essay on My Passion in Life:

My passion in life is something that has been with me for as long as I can remember. It’s a driving force, a constant source of inspiration and motivation, and it brings so much joy and fulfillment to my life.

Growing up, I was always encouraged to explore different activities and hobbies to find what truly sparked my interest. From music to sports to art, I dabbled in many areas, but nothing quite captured my heart like writing did. From the moment I started putting words on paper, I knew that this was my passion.

Writing allows me to express myself in ways that I never thought possible. It’s a form of therapy, a way to process my thoughts and emotions, and a means to connect with others. Whether it’s through poetry, short stories, or personal essays, writing gives me a voice and allows me to share my perspective with the world.

But my passion for writing goes beyond just self-expression. It’s also a way for me to make an impact and leave a lasting impression on others. Through my words, I hope to inspire, educate, and bring about positive change in the world. Whether I’m writing about social issues, personal experiences, or fictional tales, my goal is always to ignite something within the reader and leave them with a newfound perspective.

My passion for writing has also led me to constantly seek out new knowledge and skills. I’m always reading books on different writing techniques, attending workshops and conferences, and connecting with other writers to learn from their experiences. This constant growth not only helps me improve my craft, but it also deepens my love for writing and keeps the flame of passion burning bright.

As I continue on my writing journey, I am grateful for the opportunities that have come my way and the people who have supported me. My passion in life has not only brought immense joy to myself, but it has also allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals and build a community of passionate writers.

In conclusion, my passion for writing is an integral part of who I am. It has shaped my identity, provided me with purpose and meaning, and continues to be a source of endless possibilities.

Short Essay on my Passion for Fashion:

Fashion has always been a significant part of my life. Since I was young, I have been fascinated by the way people express themselves through clothing. The colors, patterns, fabrics, and styles all come together to create an individual’s unique fashion statement.

As I grew older, my passion for fashion only intensified. I started experimenting with different styles and trends, trying to find my own personal aesthetic. I would spend hours scrolling through fashion blogs and magazines, admiring the latest collections from top designers.

Not only do I love fashion for its outward appearance, but also for the creativity and artistry behind it. Designers are constantly pushing boundaries and expressing themselves through their designs, which is something that deeply inspires me.

Fashion is not just about following trends; it’s about self-expression, confidence, and creativity. It has the power to make a statement and evoke emotions.

My passion for fashion led me to pursue a degree in Fashion Design, where I have learned the technical skills of garment construction and design principles. Through this, I have been able to bring my ideas to life and create clothing that is a reflection of my personal style.

Fashion will always be a significant part of my life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to turn my passion into a career. It allows me to constantly learn and grow, all while expressing myself in a unique and meaningful way. Overall, fashion has not only shaped my sense of style but also who I am as an individual. So, I will continue to follow my passion and see where it takes me on this exciting journey of self-discovery through fashion.

Essay on My Passion For Learning:

Learning has always been a fundamental part of my life. I have had a deep curiosity about the world around me from an early age, and this curiosity has only grown stronger as I have gotten older. For me, learning is not just a means to an end or something that needs to be done for school or work – it is a lifelong pursuit that brings joy and fulfillment to my life.

Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have parents who encouraged and supported my love for learning. They always made sure that I had access to books, educational activities, and opportunities to explore and discover new things. This laid the foundation for me to develop a strong passion for learning, as well as a thirst for knowledge that cannot be quenched.

One of the things that I love about learning is that there is always something new to discover. No matter how much I learn, there will always be more to explore and learn about. This constant cycle of discovery and growth keeps me motivated and excited to continue my journey of learning.

Through my passion for learning, I have been able to expand my horizons, challenge myself, and develop new skills. It has not only helped me in my academic and professional pursuits but also in my personal life. Learning has taught me how to think critically, problem-solve, and communicate effectively – skills that are essential for success in any aspect of life.

Moreover, learning has opened up a whole world of possibilities for me. It has allowed me to explore different subjects, cultures, and perspectives, broadening my understanding of the world and fostering empathy towards others. It has also given me the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals who share my passion for learning.

In conclusion, my passion for learning is not something that can be easily put into words. It is a driving force in my life that motivates me to continue growing, exploring, and discovering. Learning is not just a hobby or a habit for me – it is a way of life, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue learning and growing every day. Football has been my passion from a very young age. I remember watching my first match at the age of 6 and being completely mesmerized by the energy and excitement on the field. I couldn’t wait to get home and try out all the moves I saw on TV with my friends.

Singing has always been my passion since I was a child. I still remember when I used to sing along with the radio, trying to imitate the beautiful voices of my favorite singers. As I grew older, my love for singing only intensified and it became an integral part of my life.

One of the main reasons why singing is my passion is because it allows me to express myself in ways that words cannot. When I sing, I am able to convey my emotions and feelings to the audience without any barriers. It’s a form of catharsis for me, as I can release any pent-up emotions through my voice.

Moreover, singing also brings me immense joy and happiness. There is a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction when I hit the right notes and create beautiful melodies. It’s a feeling that cannot be described in words but can only be felt.

I have also had the opportunity to perform on various stages, from school functions to local competitions, and each performance has been a thrilling experience. The adrenaline rush I feel while performing is incomparable to anything else. It’s like a form of meditation for me, where I am completely immersed in the music and forget about everything else.

Swimming has been a major part of my life ever since I was a child. Growing up near the beach, swimming became one of the activities that I enjoyed the most. As I grew older, my love for swimming only increased, and it eventually turned into a passion.

One of the main reasons why swimming is so important to me is the sense of freedom and relaxation that it brings. Every time I dive into the water, all my worries disappear, and I feel completely at peace. It’s like a form of meditation for me, where I can disconnect from the outside world and focus on my own thoughts.

Aside from the mental benefits, swimming also has numerous physical benefits. It is a great workout for the entire body, and it helps me stay in shape and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The feeling of being weightless in the water is also a big plus for me, as I have always been fascinated by the ocean and its mysteries.

My passion for swimming has also led me to participate in competitive races and join swim teams. The adrenaline rush that comes with competing against others while pushing my own limits is exhilarating. It has taught me discipline, determination and the importance of hard work.

Essay on My Passion for Cooking:

As a child, I was always drawn to the kitchen. While other kids were playing outside or watching cartoons, I found myself eagerly learning how to chop vegetables and mix ingredients. This early interest in cooking has only grown stronger as I’ve gotten older.

For me, cooking is not just about following recipes and making food. It’s an art form that allows me to express my creativity and passion. I love experimenting with different flavors, textures, and cooking techniques to create unique dishes that are both delicious and visually appealing.

Not only is cooking a creative outlet for me, but it’s also a way to connect with others. There’s something special about sharing a meal with loved ones – whether it’s a fancy dinner party or just a casual weeknight dinner. Cooking brings people together and creates lasting memories.

I am constantly seeking to improve my cooking skills and knowledge, whether it’s through trying new recipes or taking cooking classes. I am always excited to learn about different cuisines and techniques from around the world.

Ultimately, my passion for cooking stems from a deep love of food and the joy it brings to myself and others. It’s a never-ending journey that I am grateful to be on, and I can’t wait to see where it will take me next.

My Greatest Passion and How It Has Contributed to My Personal Growth Essay

The 18th century French philosopher Denis Diderot’s remark that “Only passions, great passions can elevate the soul to great things”, is significant and deserves primary attention as a close look at history reveals that all the great people were obsessed with some passion or the other. The ambition and the passions of an individual are closely linked as one is most likely to go after his most dominant passion to cherish his ambition in life.

It is the innate passion of the individual that motivates him and leads him to undertake any amount of challenges for the accomplishment of his dreams and ambitions. Each individual has his/her own unique passions and my greatest passion in life is for the poor and needy humans.

Hailed from a very poor region in Russia and having lost my dad at the age of 15, I always had a passion to make this world a better place for the poor and the homeless children whom I came across from my early childhood onwards. Thus, my passion for the suffering humanity has drastically changed my life and this instilled in me a strong desire to dedicate my life for their cause. Within no time I realized that I needed to pursue the career of a social worker to fulfil my passion for the poor and downtrodden section of the society.

My desire to become a committed social worker transformed my way of life too. I became more and more interested in social issues, and each time I saw injustice and maltreatment done to the helpless, I was tormented with sympathetic and empathetic feelings towards them. I still remember how I dreamt of building a huge house in my locality so that I can provide solace and shelter to the homeless and the needy. I even cherished the fantasy of building a shelter for the strayed animals and birds that did not have a resting place to sleep. I wanted to learn more about social problems and my passion for the society and the people around me prompted me to pursue my higher studies either in psychology or sociology.

My passion for the suffering humanity was so strong that I always enjoyed travelling, discovering new cultures, and meeting new places and people. Knowing more about various cultures and human beings provided me immense satisfaction and I used to spend sleepless nights learning about human behaviour and human psychology. After my school studies I decided to pursue my higher studies at the California University where I want to study either Health and Social Care Management or Sociology.

My family members realized how determined I was in the pursuit of my ambitions and I am grateful to my mother and relatives for providing me constant support, encouragement and confidence. One of the reasons I wanted to study in California was that I really fell in love with Los Angels the very first time I visited the city. Besides, I am fascinated by the American culture and I believe that Los Angels is the right place to equip myself with the necessary knowledge and skills to cherish my passion in life-that of helping the humanity and making the lives of the people around me happier.

Thus, my passion for the cause of the poor, the helpless and the needy has contributed both to my personal and professional growth. The years I worked hard to accomplish my innate passion also saw me through the development of my personality. Within no time I established myself as a person with a lot of social contacts and I could see that my communication skills and leadership abilities have also been improved considerably. To conclude, it was my social commitment and my passion for the poor and the needy that resulted in my personal and professional growth.

One day, when my male cousin asked me to go to a secluded room, I didn’t resist. By the time he walked away, I was overwhelmed with confusion. Over time, I learned to bury the memory deep under a wall of silence. Years later, my secret came out in waves of teary confessions. What I heard next was my worst nightmare; my younger sister had been hurt too. That was a defining moment for me, where I learned the power of speaking up.

I am passionate about using my voice to advocate for the equality of status for women in and out of the workspace. I am also passionate about helping other women discover their voices so they can take their rightful place in the conversation at the workplace. This quest directly relates to my identity as a progressive woman and my need to cultivate a safe, nurturing space for women.

Furthermore, I want women to understand their inherent power in the workplace as equal contributors to profitability and productivity. My experience with the Women’s Club chapter at Coca-Cola, where I witnessed the impact and influence of mentoring and training, has fueled my passion for utilizing my voice to ensure that women are provided with the avenues of growth they deserve at the workplace.

My consulting practice that will develop learning and organizational development solutions resonates with my passion for helping women achieve their true potential in a diverse, accepting and empathetic work environment.

My passion relates to finding the truth and understanding the world and this has played a vital role in my storytelling hobby. My father was very keen to keep me updated concerning the need to gather knowledge as an important part of gaining wisdom. My craving for knowledge heightened my fascination concerning nature, religion, the stars and play. I also love to research about history, and looking in the cultures of different civilizations, which help shape my storytelling. However, my passion for history would not likely have a strong effect on the world, but it provides knowledge and wisdom of the past. I would love to be a historian or a archeologist if given the opportunity. As my passion is world history. My family heritage gave me this passion. I have learned so much over the years from reading, and hearing my grandfather talking about the Korean War. When I went to Seoul Korea, going to the museums, my relatives were surprised how well I am familiar with Korean history, despite not ever visiting Korea. Then they offered me a personal family tree book. This escalated my interest, as I learned that my great ancestor was a great general in ancient Korea. The experience of researching history made me a better thinker and communicator, and, in turn, a better filmmaker. My passion for history persists as an avocation, if not a vocation, and my passion gives me a unique perspective in the movie business world. During my childhood, I appreciated the fact that I needed to gather knowledge on the issues that I knew least. I was keen to watch our television that I believed is a good medium to access important information on diverse issues. I was also interested in reading books and therefore I was a fun of cracking encyclopedia and libraries. My motivation to read the books and encyclopedias that I could access was out of the fascination of the information contained in these materials. Interesting information concerning the world was clearly displayed in these materials waiting for somebody to read and gain knowledge.

When I discovered that books were the greatest source of information, I made sure that I carry all the favorite books that I came across and I kept most of them within my reach. Every moment of my time was spent on these books that contained sufficient information on animals, the space and all scientific knowledge that one could aspire to know about. Passion plays a vital role in reading and this has greatly transformed me in my storytelling hobby. Extensive reading gives me the needed knowledge on diverse fields such that, I can competently narrate a story with a high degree of creativeness and authenticity. Such passion does not necessary need that a person was successful in school. It is possible to get a lot of solace in books even after failing to achieve excellently in school. Books are good sources of connections and they contribute significantly in building our memories and feelings. To be a passionate reader of books makes one to actively share experiences, connections and feelings, in life with others.

I came to appreciate the greatest gift one can ever acquire as the passion to read extensively. Extensive reading distracts the reader from many things; it consoles, excites and gives the necessary knowledge and experience that are needed in the world as a moral illumination. A lot of gains are associated with reading books. The most notable of the benefits is associated with mind-expanding gains. Great thinkers of the past left behind their works in books and this is the best place that we can access the wisdom that they had.

Sometimes life become unbearable and such a situation can be surmounted by taking a brief escape in to the books. Reading has the potentials of absorbing the brain leading to relaxation thereafter.  Some of the books serve to entertain the reader. Such books include thrillers, novels and scientific books that entertain and opens the minds to a new world. Books are the best and outstanding source of wisdom and knowledge that can be accessed with comparatively low cost. Continuous reading is therefore a great source of knowledge that greatly influences the future of the reader. The reader becomes informed in a wide range of fields that enhances other skills such storytelling as is in my case.

What's Your Passion?

Research shows that tapping into your life passions can lead to happiness..

Posted June 12, 2017 | Reviewed by Abigail Fagan

Shoes/Pixaby

Ever since I was a little girl, my parents told me that when I grew up, I should do what I love and love what I do. Making a lot of money was not a huge criterion for choosing a career or profession.

For some reason, my mother assumed I would be a biology major in college, because she thought I would follow in the footsteps of my grandmother, who’d always wanted to be a physician. However, due to the interference of World War I, my grandmother was unable to fulfill that life passion.

Biology was not one of my strongest subjects, but I made it through my college studies and ended up becoming a registered nurse. I was in this profession for a few years, but all the while I made time to write. Ever since my mother bought me my first box of stationery, followed by my first journal, I knew that writing was an endeavor I loved. I always felt good when I was writing, and that’s how I figured out my life passion.

Passion may be defined as an inclination or desire to do something one likes to do or thinks is important to do. In one of his studies, Professor Robert J. Vallerand (2008) presented a concept he termed the dualistic model of passion. He identified two different types of passion, each having different outcomes—harmonious passion is when people do something because they love it in a controllable and manageable way; obsession passion is when people have an uncontrollable urge to become involved in an activity, and the outcome might not be as favorable.

Psychologists often ask the question: How do people conclude that their lives are worth living? Figuring out our passion is one way to do so, and having a harmonious passion is another way. When my students ask me how they can determine where their passions lie, I often ask them to look back into their childhoods to identify what brought them joy. Many know the answer without much reflection; in many cases, their life’s work is similar to their childhood passion. My next suggestion is to write an essay about what they would rather be doing. This provides great insight into what might bring them the most joy and fulfillment.

We are all in search of happiness , which is so often tied to life passion and doing what we were meant to do. Our passion is what we want to do naturally, not what sounds good or what others want us to do. Passion is the fuel that drives us to get out of bed in the morning; it moves us toward our goals . Sometimes, finding our passion simply has to do with listening to our inner voice and ignoring the noise around us telling us what we should do. It’s also about surrounding ourselves with people who have similar interests, and passions we admire. If we prefer being alone, sometimes it’s best to distance ourselves from others so we can hear our inner voice clearly.

Spanish poet and theater director Federico Garciá Lorca (1998) used the word duende, or life force, to signify a deep passion. Creativity and inspiration pull us toward duende. For the writer, the best art keeps the fire and ecstasy alive within. Lorca says that when the duende comes, it is followed by radical change, a sort of religious enthusiasm. Lorca believes that all the arts—especially music, dance, and poetry—are in touch with duende, basically because they need to be expressed and then interpreted.

In her book Exuberance: The Passion for Life, Kay Redfield Jamison claims that we’ve formulated many words for sadness and sorrow, but few words for having a passion for life. Exuberance, which goes hand in hand with a passion for life, is what compels us to go where we might not normally go. Exuberance brings us to a place where our imagination exists far from common, quieter places. Exuberance is what we feel when we’ve discovered our life passion.

Jamison writes about how John Muir and Teddy Roosevelt were exuberant men who knew early on that their life passion was to preserve nature. She said this about Muir: “He understood nature, felt nature, and then illuminated her to those who did not” (p 17). A huge part of finding one’s passion is sharing that passion with others—as Muir did through his art—in a most contagious manner.

Here are some tips for finding your life passion:

  • Think about when you felt or feel happiest.
  • Think about an activity you love doing.
  • Think or write about your values.
  • Think about what drives your decisions.
  • Do a self-assessment and identify your strengths.
  • Think about your current job and ask yourself, “Do I truly have a passion for it?”
  • Think about subjects you love talking about.
  • Think about what you’ve always dreamed of doing.

Do the practical steps you need to do to find your passion (take assessments, get additional training, hire a coach, read books, research, etc.), but at the same time engage in other things you find interesting and valuable.

While you're taking these actions, actively look for clues and passion in life examples to inspire you.

You might discover that what you are most passionate about is the very thing you are doing while you search.

If you'd like to fill that restless “When will I ever find my passion” time with interesting and positive activities, take a look at our passionate examples below.

21 Things To Be Passionate About

Choose from the list of things to be passionate about and begin practicing one of these activities now. They all will benefit you in some way, and we show you how to use each of them in the search for your passion in life.

If you've been feeling passionless and frustrated, you're probably neglecting your physical well-being.

This malaise tends to happen when we're unhappy, but actually, it's the perfect time to reignite your commitment to health and fitness.

Find an interesting fitness routine that includes an aerobic activity. I took up rebounding because I'd read so much about the health benefits of it — and it looked so fun.

My rebounding commitment that I practiced during the cold months led to a new passion for running, which I took up when it got warmer.

Even if you have an established routine, change it up with something new. Take up a sport or activity where you can meet new people who are pursuing interesting activities.

Research new healthy recipes and start cooking them. Join an online community where you share health and fitness goals and support one another.

How this passion example helps your search: When you feel great physically, it will undoubtedly help you feel better mentally and emotionally. You'll be in the right frame of mind to discover your passion.

As you explore new health and fitness opportunities, you may meet someone, encounter a situation, or realize something about yourself that leads to a passion, as rebounding did for me.

When we're preoccupied with the things that are not going right in our lives, our relationships can suffer. We might become inattentive and distant from those we love.

A negative attitude can undermine the joy and spontaneity in the relationship. Sometimes the people close to us begin to pull away because of the negative energy we're putting out.

Your close relationships are THE most valuable part of your life. As you search for your passion, take time to focus on the health of your most important connections.

If there are problems in a relationship, take the initiative to address them and work them out. Be proactive in expressing your gratitude and feelings to your loved ones.

Think about what brings them joy, and make that happen for them. Explore new and fun activities to enjoy together. Lovingly tend to your most valued relationships as you would a prized garden.

How this passion example helps your search: The important people in your life will ultimately share in your life passion when you find it. You want and need their support, patience, and engagement.

They may have input and ideas that can give you insights about yourself and your passion. More importantly, having healthy, happy relationships is essential to your own well-being.

If your relationships are going poorly, you won't be emotionally healthy enough to find your passion.

While you are seeking your passion, find something mildly engaging, and begin learning everything you can about it.

It can be a useful skill (like learning a new language, creating a website, or investing) or an enjoyable activity that involves research and learning (like bird watching, uncovering your family tree, or drawing ).

Immerse yourself in whatever piques your interest, whether or not you believe it will be your passion. Become more skilled or knowledgeable, practice regularly, and take pleasure in the process of learning.

How this passion example helps your search: As you become deeply engaged in this new activity, it may very well reveal itself to be your passion or lead you to a passion.

Even if it doesn't, it will expose you to new and exciting ideas, people, and knowledge. You'll see that the process of engagement is a passionate activity itself. You will expand as a person, opening your mind to possibilities and insights you didn't possess before.

As you work toward finding something to be passionate about, prepare yourself financially for that passion so you can enjoy it with security.

If you are in debt, this is a perfect time to work on paying it off. Brainstorm ways to cut back on spending and to make extra income on the side.

If you need some ideas, check out the book The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness  by finance guru Dave Ramsey.

Consider your personal philosophy around money and spending.

  • How much money do you really need to live the life you want?
  • How much savings do you need for a possible job transition or time off?
  • What do you need to learn about investing and growing your money?
  • How are you spending money unconsciously?

How this passion example helps your search:  Managing money isn't on everyone's list of passions. But solid financial preparation will be a huge benefit to you when you know your passion and you're ready to pursue it.

You'll be in a great position to make the necessary life changes that might be required to make your passion part of your life .

happy woman, things to be passionate about

As you're searching, just knowing you're in a financially sound position reduces the fear and doubt inhibiting you from seeking your passion.

Look around you at all of the nonessential “stuff” in your life — like material possessions, clutter, demands on your time and energy, draining people, or tolerations that distract you.

Get passionate about decluttering your life and simplifying it to the most essential and valuable elements.

If you have material things you never use or that take up your time and energy with cleaning, care, and repair — sell them or give them away.

Clean out your closets, clear off your desk, clean up your inbox on your computer. If you need help, check out my book with my co-author Steve Scott called, 10-Minute Declutter: The Stress-Free Habit for Simplifying Your Home .

If you fill your time with activities or commitments you don't enjoy or that make you feel stressed, start eliminating them.

Are there people in your life who are negative, demanding, or otherwise difficult to be around? If so, let them go or cut back on the time you spend with them.

How this passion example helps your search:  More time, energy, and space frees you from distractions that pull you away from your passion search.

It also frees up room for your passion, and eliminates the doubt and worry that you might not have time to find or live your passion. By eliminating what isn't productive, useful, or necessary, it creates room for what is.

Surprisingly, it's when we are engaged in something else that our passion often makes itself known to us — or at least provides clues to lead us to it.

As you search for things to be passionate about, make good use of your time by becoming passionate in these activities that support your search.

If you want to be passionate for life, the first place to begin is within yourself.

Personal growth is the intentional effort to explore yourself and notice where you need to change and improve your habits, behavior, attitudes, actions, and reactions.

You seek to find these areas that need improvement and to learn new mindsets and actions to build emotional intelligence, confidence, and character.

You can do this by taking courses and workshops, reading self-improvement books , working with a counselor or coach, and finding a mentor.

Having motivation for personal growth isn't enough. You also must be willing to push yourself beyond your comfort zone and do things that stretch you.

Maintaining a growth mindset and the willingness to improve is key to becoming a fully actualized person who is ready and open for a passionate life.

How this passion example helps your search:  Working on your personal growth is foundational to any positive change in your life. To find your life passion, you need to understand yourself, your inner roadblocks, your limiting beliefs and assumptions, and your insecurities.

By addressing these, you'll free yourself to explore ideas and interests that you might not have previously felt confident exploring.

Also, learning to push past your comfort zone during personal growth will prepare you to explore as you seek your passion. You learn to get more comfortable with discomfort and realize the things you fear aren't so daunting after all.

Mindfulness means being attentive to what is happening right now and being present in the moment — which is the only reality we have.

And what better thing to be passionate about than the thing you are doing right now? Rather than dwelling on regrets or worries about the future, remain focused on the now — even when it's tedious or unpleasant.

However, practicing mindfulness is harder than it sounds. In the rush of our hectic lives, we don't take the time to appreciate the task or experience at hand.

Our thoughts tend to wander and get stuck in negative loops. It almost seems our minds control us and force us to think about everything except the present moment.

But the practice of mindfulness helps us gain control over our thoughts. We learn to tame our mental muscles, so we don't suffer so much from worry and regret.

There are many ways to practice mindfulness, but one of the best is through mindfulness meditation . Meditation is proven to reduce stress and anxiety and lower incidents of addiction, depression, and eating disorders, among many other benefits.

Use this time of waiting to learn the power of mindfulness and meditation.

How this passion example helps your search:  When you become more mindful, through meditation and other mindfulness practices, you will become more centered, calm, and focused.

You'll also be more appreciative and grateful for all of the good things in your life rather than so intently focused on what's missing.

Having this openness and inner equilibrium leaves you more receptive to inspiration and creativity. When your mind isn't cluttered, you have room to explore possibilities for your life passion.

And as you explore,  you're less agitated and worried about how to find your passion or make it work in your life. Your appreciation for the present moment invites confidence that life will unfold in the best way to match your goals and desires.

Michael Gelb, the author of How to Think Like Leonardo daVinci , suggests there are seven principles (he learned from daVinci) to increase creativity. These include:

  • Curiosity – Having an insatiable quest for knowledge and continuous improvement
  • Thinking Independently – Learning from experience and applying that in new ways
  • Sharpening Your Senses  – Paying attention to all of your senses to explore the world
  • Embracing Uncertainty  – By getting comfortable with discomfort and managing ambiguity and change
  • Balancing Logic and Imagination – Using your whole brain rather than relying on one or the other
  • Balancing Body and Mind  – Not focusing too much on one or the other
  • Making New Connections – Finding patterns and new idea combinations from existing ones

Your job is to apply these principles in a fun way in your life, even if you don't think of yourself as creative. To get passionate about creativity, you can find new activities that stimulate creativity (painting, drawing, writing , dancing, photography).

Or you can apply creative thinking to your current work projects, home tasks, or even your social life. How can you shake things up, make unique connections with old ideas, or do something differently?

Make it a point to get out of your rut and use creative thinking and activities to expand your horizons.

How this passion example helps your search:  Most common passions require creative thinking. It's the lack of creative thinking that may have led to your feelings of being without a passion.

The more you practice tapping into your creative brain (yes, we all have one), the more adept you'll become at seeing new possibilities and devising unique solutions for any roadblocks you encounter.

The more you practice being creative , the more confident you'll be in your ability to tap into it when you need it.

You may be fretting about how to find work you love because you're suffering in a job you don't like. Maybe your work isn't fulfilling or feels meaningless.

It's hard to feel any amount of joy in your work if a big part of it causing you angst. That negative part taints your entire experience, and you begin to see your job as a big drag.

But even in these situations, you can find something you enjoy about your job — your co-workers, a particular client, your office space, or your salary.

You may find a way to make the negative parts of your job more bearable by using creative thinking and devising a new way to make your work more interesting.

Applying mindfulness to your daily work and focusing intently on the task at hand (rather than stewing about how much you hate it) can ease the pain and give you more of a sense of purpose.

As the poet Kahlil Gibran writes in his book The Prophet , “Work is love made visible. And if you cannot work with love but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of those who work with joy.”

How this passion example helps your search:  Passion begins on the inside as you recognize that you can bring joy and enthusiasm to everything you do, even if it's a job you aren't crazy about.

As you learn to approach even the most unappealing tasks with joy, you'll find that your joy expands and opens doors for new possibilities.

Others will be attracted to your positive mindset, and they will see you as a go-to person for other potential career opportunities.

According to happiness researcher and author, Sonja Lyubomirsky in her book, The How of Happiness , helping other people is one of the keys to sustained happiness.

“Kindness can jump-start a whole cascade of positive social consequences ,” Lyubomirsky said. “Helping others leads people to like you, to appreciate you [and] to offer gratitude.”

As you help others, you also discover abilities that you are naturally good at — and that make you feel good about yourself.

As you extend yourself, those around you realize how valuable you are and that you have more to contribute than they may have previously realized.

How this passion example helps your search: When you help and support others, you may discover a new passion when you give your time and energy to someone or something that's important to you.

I often advise passion-seekers to volunteer in organizations that are intriguing to them. As a volunteer, you may have the opportunity to work in various areas of a business, giving you a taste of the day-to-day requirements involved.

By extending yourself to others, no strings attached, you'll find that others want to help and support you in some way. You'll expand your network of people who might lead you to your passion.

While you're waiting to figure out your passion in life, do something to expand your existing skills or to become more educated.

Think about getting an advanced degree or taking continuing education classes in your field. Or work on an entirely different degree that can help you transition to another field altogether.

The return on your investment for an advanced degree can well make up for the expense and time involved in attaining it.

If you're not sure you want an advanced degree in your current field, consider a Masters in Communication Leadership, making you invaluable in any career in which proven leadership qualities and communication expertise are highly valued.

You might be interested in venturing out on your own, so an MBA in entrepreneurship will give you expertise for starting, building, or advising new business ventures

How this passion example helps your search:  Whether you take master's courses at a university or online, you'll encounter other students from a wide variety of industries and backgrounds that might interest you.

Also, you'll interact with numerous professionals who are successful in their careers who can mentor and advise you.

You'll learn from professors who are often industry leaders and can provide real-world knowledge and valuable networking opportunities.

You might not be able to think of anything in your life that you feel passionate about. Maybe, for too long, your days have revolved around work, meals, and evening entertainment. And you don’t feel passionate about any of those things.

So, why not mix it up by visualizing the life you want and by adding something from that vision to your daily life? Let something in your daily routine remind you of where you want to be — and get you a little closer to that.

Maybe you’ll create a vision board. And if you enjoy making it, you could even host vision board parties for friends and family.

It also helps to keep a journal where you can sort out your thoughts and make sense of what you’re feeling about your life. It’s easy to look for escapes and rely on those every day.

How this passion example helps your search: You’ll get closer to the life you want if you allow yourself to articulate what that is.

The more time you spend clarifying that vision, the more excited you’ll get about the direction of your life, and the more likely you are to take action every day to make things happen.

If you love spending time in nature, and you’re motivated to give of your time, talent, or treasure (or all three) toward conservation efforts and sustainable energy production, this is an excellent outlet for your creative energy.

A simple internet search can lead you to a number of conservation groups and environmentalist activists whose efforts you might want to support or even join.

Or if you’d rather, you could simply spend more time out in nature, where you might find inspiration for your next passion project.

If you’re already someone who loves spending time in the outdoors — camping, hiking, or just taking long walks — you have the perfect excuse to spend more time with something that restores you and reminds you of what you love.

If you’re not outdoorsy, you can still benefit from more time in nature. And you can still take action to protect the environment and its natural resources.

How this passion example helps your search: Time spent mindfully in nature can make you more aware of what’s important to you and what you’re grateful for.

So, even if enjoying and defending nature isn’t at the top of your list, being passionate about nature — at least for a little while — can yield lasting benefits.

If you feel compelled to work for the correction of the injustices in your world, you have that drive for a reason. In some way, you’re uniquely qualified to work on behalf of justice for all — particularly those marginalized by society and its laws and institutions.

You feel a pull, and your experience up ‘til now has only strengthened it.  You don’t see yourself as a savior or expect the work to be easy or even gratifying. But you do expect to make a difference, even if it’s the last thing you do.

It’s not an easy path. And maybe few people will take you seriously. But that hasn’t stopped you yet.

How this passion example helps your search: When you’re working to alleviate the sufferings of others or to fight alongside them for justice, you see more clearly what’s most important — in your life and in theirs.

Don’t be surprised if the way you live your daily life changes because of the work you do. Taking real risks to help others get justice makes it harder to spare any space or energy for petty disagreements or things that don’t make life better.

And without the clutter, you see more clearly where your passion lies.

If you love animals and enjoy spending time with them, you might love spending some time every week volunteering at an animal shelter. Or you could help out a local farmer who needs help tending the animals.

You could also volunteer to provide foster care to a rescue animal. It’s not a commitment to take lightly, but the energy and affection of an abandoned pet might be as healing for you as your care and attention are for them.

Along with donating to your favorite animal charities, you might also find a purpose in fighting for animal rights, training dogs for support roles or for search and rescue, or simply helping new pet owners properly socialize and train their animals.

How this passion example helps your search:  Spending time with animals can be therapeutic in itself. The better acquainted you become with each animal’s behavior, personality, and mannerisms, the easier it is to know what they need from you.

It’s a training in nonverbal communication. And while it can often be frustrating, it has a way of revealing your own personality (as well as the limits of your temper).

And the better you know yourself, the more clearly you see what you care about most.

If part of you has always wanted to start your own business, entrepreneurship has much to teach you, if you’re willing to take the risks. And for many business ideas, you don’t need thousands of dollars to get started.

Consider what you’re good at, what you enjoy, and what the world needs (more of). Then find a novel way to create the thing or to render the service and ensure each customer or client has a memorable experience they’ll want to recommend to others.

You can find plenty of books and courses on starting a business. Pick one and see where it leads you.

How this passion example helps your search:  Starting a business involves the risk of loss, as well as other mishaps that represent more of a social cost than a financial one. Lose someone’s trust, and they’re not likely to do any kind of business with you again.

But even if you learn some painful lessons as a business owner, you’ll learn more about yourself and your personal values, which are essential to establishing a brand that will attract your ideal customers.

And you’re likely to have some passions in common with them.

Whatever you believe about the meaning of life, the universe, and everything, you probably feel more deeply invested in some beliefs than in others. Yet, as you grow in knowledge and experience, you’re likely to question things you once took for granted.

However, you may find that certain spiritual practices make it easier for you to make sense of each day’s irritations, challenges, and synchronicities.

Your beliefs might help you see the bigger picture behind each day’s disappointments and surprises, as well as your daily routine and everything that threatens to disrupt it.

As long as you don’t use your beliefs to violate the rights of others, your passionate, respectful, and articulate defense of those beliefs can help open minds to different perspectives.

How this passion example helps your search : Exploring what you believe and learning how to articulate it for others makes it hard to ignore what’s most important to you.

Plus, your willingness to question beliefs and teachings makes it much more likely that you’ll identify the core values critical to your self-knowledge and personal development.

All the more reason to do some soul searching — ideally with a journal handy.

You can easily take them for granted. Sometimes you argue with them or say things to them you later regret. Where better to put your passion energy than toward your family — the people you love the most and whose happiness is key to your own?

So what does it mean to be passionate about your family? It means . . .

  • Being fully present with them when you are talking with them.
  • Making more time to engage with each of them individually and as a group.
  • Knowing your family values and doing your best to honor them.
  • Showing up when they need you.
  • Finding ways to strengthen your family bond.
  • Engaging in rituals and traditions that bring you together.

How this passion example helps your search : Your family is the centerpiece of your life, and if things are out of balance with them, it impacts everything you do.

The strength of your family bond supports you emotionally as you strive to create the life you want for yourself and them. Your closeness and care for your family members help you make choices and decisions in everyone's best interest.

If you are suffering from stress, anxiety, depression, or any other mental health challenge, and you haven't dealt with it, now is the time to get passionate about improving your mental health.

It's hard to feel passionate about anything when you are suffering emotionally. However, you won't have the emotional bandwidth to do anything you love if you don't tackle the issues holding you back.

Use any emotional energy you can muster to prioritize getting better. Start by going to a doctor to ensure you don't have a physical issue causing the mental one. Meet with a counselor to discuss your feelings and learn coping strategies. Be diligent about taking any medications your doctor prescribes for you.

How this passion example helps your search : It's self-evident that being mentally healthy is necessary to feel excited and engaged in anything. If your energy is low, you won't be in the frame of mind to search for your passion — much less feel passionate about it.

The more committed you are to your mental health, the better you'll feel about everything in life. You'll have more clarity and energy to pursue any endeavor.

How much time have you spent exploring and engaging in your community and the activities available to you? Getting involved in your local community can open up a world of ideas and opportunities for you.

You might consider. . .

  • Joining the school board or Chamber of Commerce.
  • Attending local Meet-Ups in your area.
  • Volunteering in the library, local non-profit, or community event.
  • Hosting a study group, clean-up project, or bake sale.
  • Coaching a youth sports team.
  • Teaching at the parks and recreation center.

How this passion example helps your search : Not only can you explore areas of interest in your community, but also you will meet a host of new people who might lead you to new career opportunities or expose you to other interests you haven't considered.

You don't have to be an exceptional writer or expert to write a book. You can write a book just for yourself or your family. Or you might use book writing as a way to explore an interest or skill you possess.

You can use a self-published book as a way to share your ideas and knowledge with others and add to your credibility in your field.

Come up with a few ideas for your book topic. Explore each one to see how easy it is to flesh out the information. Then outline your book and start writing. The process itself will be fun and fascinating.

How this passion example helps your search : Writing a book about something that interests you is the perfect way to explore that something more deeply. Your research may require you to interview or talk to people who have this passion.

You'll discover elements of your interest that you didn't previously know about through this research. As you write, you become more of an expert and make yourself more marketable to anyone who might want to hire you.

How to Hone Your List of Passions

Are you ready to start developing your own list of passions that might eventually become a career or hobby ?

You probably know some of the interests and endeavors you already feel passionate about, and creating your list will help you clarify your next steps.

Here's how to get started:

  • Grab a pen and paper, and start writing down every idea you can think of — even if it seems outlandish or undoable. Just conduct a brain dump of all of your ideas.
  • Once you've exhausted all of your ideas and put them on paper, go back and circle your top five to ten ideas.
  • Next, grab a sheet of paper for each idea, and write it at the top of the page.
  • Begin researching the passion idea, making notes on the paper about the skills involved, any educational requirements, and (if it's a passion that can become a career) the salary potential. Do this for each of your top passions.
  • Now go back and refine your list again, looking at the ideas that seem to intrigue you the most. Separate the papers for these finalists.
  • Your next task is to write goals and action steps for each of these ideas. What is the bigger picture you want for this passion (a career, a side-gig, a hobby)? What are the specific steps you need to take to reach this goal?
  • Finally, make a decision about the passion that seems to fit best into your life, your finances, and your overall goals.

Once you refine your list to your top idea, you may want to volunteer or experiment with the idea before investing too much time and money.

You can shadow someone who is already engaged in this passion, set up meetings to talk with people who do this thing or take a part-time job in the field.

Spending some time testing the water before you jump in head first.

Final Thoughts

Have you wondered what to say when asked what you are passionate about? If so, we hope this post helped you on your journey to find your life passion.

If you haven't figured it out yet, don't allow the uncertainty and confusion to bring you down. Try to view this time as an adventure and enjoy the process.

In addition to trying the activities listed in this post, take a look at the things people are passionate about in your circle of family and friends. Ask them questions to learn what led them to their passions. Pick their brains for ideas and actions to help you move forward.

In the meantime, do your best to love what you are doing now. Make it a point to try something new every month.

Remain upbeat and positive with the assurance that your passion is waiting for you.

10 thoughts on “21 Extraordinary Things To Be Passionate About This Year”

This is a great list that can apply to everyone. I’m currently working on each of these items to a certain extent. I’ve been someone who has never really seemed to have a deep passion but a few different smaller ones. These are great ways to keep me moving while I keep working to shape and grow my passions.

That’s wonderful! Maybe the smaller passions can be combined into a big passion? Do they work together in any way?

Great post made here. One thing I would really like to say is the fact most professional career fields consider the Bachelor Degree like thejust like the entry level standard for an online course. When Associate Qualifications are a great way to get started on, completing your current Bachelors uncovers many doors to various employment goodies, there are numerous internet Bachelor Course Programs available via institutions like The University of Phoenix, Intercontinental University Online and Kaplan. Another concern is that many brick and mortar institutions present Online versions of their qualifications but normally for a substantially higher price than the corporations that specialize in online diploma plans.

Great tips, Barrie! Life without passion is dry indeed. I’m so blessed to actually live mine. And I just love “Your close relationships are THE most valuable part of your life.” SO true! The Grant Study showed that “the capacity to love and be loved was the single strength most clearly associated with subjective well-being at age eighty.” And when you’re happy, with a sense of well-being, passion soars. Always love your insightful posts!

I strongly agree with you Susan.

Love these areas you mentioned where we need to be passionate about. Currently I have sections in my blog such as Health and Fitness, Love and Relationships, Life Lessons and my latest post is dedicated about simple living.

Thank you for your awesome tips.

175 Passion Examples (What are you Passionate About Ideas)

passion examples and definition, explained below

The easiest way to answer the question “What is your Passion?” is to simply state the thing you think about most.

Not only is this the honest answer, but it’s also the one that you’ll be able to talk about with the most conviction!

Below are some examples of passionate behaviors that you can peruse to get an idea. Think about which ones resonate with you and use them as a springboard for your own answer to this question!

How to Know what you’re Passionate About

  • You Think About It Endlessly – You’ll know you’re passionate about something when you find yourself thinking about it over and over again.
  • You Do it in your Spare Time –  It’s something that you dedicate your own personal energy toward, not just something you do when you’re paid to do it.
  • You Never Give Up on It – People who are passionate do not give up because they believe so wholeheartedly in their cause.
  • You Dedicate your Life to It – If you’re passionate enough about something, you will dedicate your life to it. You see this with artists, politicians, and entrepreneurs.
  • You Train to Get Better at It – If you’re passionate about sports, you’ll train every day to become the best you can possibly be at the sport.
  • You Study your Passion at University – When students graduate high school, they’re often asked: “what are you passionate about?” This question, people say, should influence what you decide to study at university.
  • You Volunteer for your Cause – If you’re passionate about animal welfare, then you’ll likely want to volunteer your time to help animals.
  • You Blogg About It – If you love something and have a lot to say about it, you might start a blog, podcast, or social media account dedicated to talking about the topic.

“What are you Passionate About?” Examples for a Job Application

1. i’m passionate about my career.

One of the most common passion examples presented in job interviews is: “I’m passionate about this job – so give it to me!”

While this may be true, you might need to dig a little deeper.

For example, you could say that you’re passionate about your career because :

  • The career gives you purpose
  • You feel filfilled when you end the day and have done your best
  • You want to be the best at what you do
  • You have long-term career goals that you desperately want to achieve

When demonstrating your passion for your career, you want to come across as if you’re the sort of employee who will give your best every single day. You want to show that you have initiative , ambition , and work ethic .

2. I’m Passionate About a Cause

The next option would be to talk about a cause that motivates you. Here, the idea is to demonstrate your values to the potential employer.

You would want to show that your values are consistent with a good employee (i.e. you believe in doing your best, being ethical, and being a thoughtful person.

A secondary benefit is that you could demonstrate that your values are consistent with the values of the workplace. For example, if you want a job at a Veterinary office, then showing your passion is animal welfare makes perfect sense.

3. I’m Passionate About my Hobby

When talking about your passion for a hobby, your goal should be to demonstrate that you have drive and purpose.

Employers want to hire people who have energy. They want to hire go-getters and enthusiasts. These are the sorts of people who will have initiative around the office.

They don’t want to employ people who are low-energy and can barely think of something they like to do in their spare time!

So, when talking about your hobby passion, mix in evidence of how this motivates you, how it demonstrates your persistence , and how you have dedicated yourself to it to frame it as an example of commitment and work ethic.

175 Passion Examples (A to Z List)

Passion examples for students.

  • Membership of a Club – If you’re active in a student club, then it’s likely that this is your passion!
  • A Life Goal – Talk about the thing you want to achieve in life. It could be related to having a family, moving somewhere, or becoming a respected community member.
  • A Specific way you want to Make Positive Change – It could be to invent something to lower greenhouse gasses, educate the youth of tomorrow, or simply improve the local community.
  • Your Career Goal – Students should be able to state a lofty career goal, like “Be a CEO of a marketing firm.”
  • A Sporting Pursuit – Many students are passionate about a sport. This can help demonstrate your inner drive.
  • The Thing you Do During your College Break – It might be traveling, training for a sport, or doing an indoor hobby like arts and crafts.

Examples of Passionate People

  • Elon Musk – Musk has created several businesses oriented around solving big problems in the world like climate change (Tesla, Solar City) and space travel (SpaceX).
  • Nelson Mandela – Mandela was so passionate about democracy in South Africa that he went to prison for over 10 years for protesting for democracy. He later became the president of South Africa.
  • Bill Gates – Gates has been passionate about using technology to improve the world since he was a teenager. He co-founded Microsoft and is now one of the richest men in the world.
  • Malala Yousafzai – Malala is a Pakistani girl who was shot by the Taliban for speaking out against them and advocating for girls’ education. She has since recovered and become a powerful advocate for education and human rights.
  • Tony Robins – Tony Robins is a motivational speaker who is passionate about helping other people find their passions!
  • Greta Thunberg – Greta is a climate change activist who passionately protested, all alone, in Stockholm to get the world’s attention.
  • Bernie Sanders – While he never became president, Sanders was noted as one of the most passionate political leaders in the United States. He advocated for human rights and equality.

Passionate Examples in a Sentence

  • She was passionate about human rights.
  • Bill Gates is passionate about educating children in Africa.
  • The saxaphone player is passionate about jazz music.
  • The baseball coach is passionate about winning the tournament.
  • The struggling writer is passionate about sharing her first novel.
  • The speech was a passionate argument against the government.

Passions are unique to each and every one of us. The above examples should hopefully stimulate some “passionate examples” that you can use as a springboard for your discussion of what you’re passionate about. Try to talk about passions that are not only true passions of yours, but talk about them in a way that demonstrates your initiative, work ethic, and moral values .

Why Is This An Interview Question?

Let’s start with explaining exactly what passion is in the context of this blog post and how it’s used in job interviews. For the sake of what we’re discussing here, passion is something you enjoy doing in your free time; a task or activity that brings you pleasure and that you find reward in doing.

It can be hard to see how passion might apply to your job interview, but more and more employers are asking potential hires exactly that. That’s why we’re here today to discuss with you exactly why knowing what your passion is is important, and how exactly how to answer that question.

First off, let’s get something important out of the way. Your immediate answer should never be “This job!”

While it might seem like that’s the correct answer, it’s not.

Yes, an employer wants employees who love their job, and in very rare cases, it really could be the truth, but let’s be honest, in most cases it isn’t…and employers aren’t stupid and aren’t going to believe you. In this case, it’s perfectly acceptable to talk about things you do outside of the job that excite you.

But hang on, don’t employers just care about the work I’m doing? Why would they want to know what I enjoy when I’m not here pushing buttons?

When you have two candidates who are equally skilled and qualified for a job, the hiring manager has to look deeper into what makes each candidate tick, and sometimes what can really make the difference is discovering which employee has a passion for life and which one is just coasting through on autopilot.

Why Is Passion Important For a Job Interview?

essay about your passion in life

To an employer, the side effects of a candidate with an outside passion can actually be highly desirable, even if it seems like that passion has absolutely nothing to do with the job you’re applying for! Here, let us explain:

When you have someone who is passionate about something, odds are that person is self-motivated to learn as much as they can about that subject. This is an incredibly desirable trait to a potential employer. Odds are this self-education has not only increased your knowledge about your chosen subject, but has also strengthened other soft skills you might have, (and remember, soft skills are the skills that come with life experiences that many hiring managers find desirable but that can’t always be taught directly (we go into much greater depth about soft skills in our blog post here.).

Let’s pretend you’re passionate about animal rights and you spend your weekends working at the local shelter helping out with the pet adoptions. Now let’s pretend you’re interviewing for a job at a local law firm as a paralegal.

While it might not seem like the two overlap, there are actually a lot of soft skills that you use as a volunteer that make you a desirable paralegal including the ability to work as a team , organizational skills , motivation to succeed at the task (who doesn’t love seeing a happy pet successfully adopted off to a new home?), networking and dedication .

Candidates with a passion are also usually hard working. They take their free time to develop the skills they need to pursue their passion. This can demonstrate to a potential employer that you’re someone who is committed to completing tasks and who has the ability to follow through on a project.

But what if my passion is boring? Or not exciting? Or just…weird?

Here’s the thing…

While an employer might not share your same passions, the bottom line is, they’re looking beyond what it is that floats your boat and examining instead the skills it takes to get that boat floating in the first place.

So even if your passion is collecting lint balls and spending hours poring over them one at a time, examining each one in exquisite detail for minute variations, it isn’t what you’re doing, but what skills you’re using while you’re doing it ( attention to detail , organization, patience, etc.).

Top 5 Tips For Answering “What is your Passion?”

Now that we’ve discussed what passion is in this context and why an interviewer is curious about it, let’s talk about how to answer that question:

1. Do your homework:

As a student of The Interview Guys , you’re already familiar with the Tailoring Method , our technique of preparing for a question before it’s asked, and this is no different!

Prior to going into that interview you’ll want to take some time and really look at what makes you happy in life and what your passion is. Treat this question with the same amount of seriousness you apply to all your pre-interview homework.

2. Be appropriate about your passion:

Passion is a funny thing…what makes one person wildly enthusiastic might be a complete and total turn off for another person. When thinking about how to answer this question, make sure that what you bring up in the interview is something you’d be comfortable talking about and that others would be comfortable listening to you talk about.

We’re not saying censor yourself and certainly are NOT encouraging you to lie, but what we are doing is telling you to be cognizant of your audience and your ultimate end goal ( hint: it’s to get the job. ) A good way to determine if you should discuss a particular passion with your potential employer is to go back to step one and really make sure that what you’re about to share with them really does align with the job you’re interviewing for.

3. Apply your passion…to your application:

While you’re preparing for your interview, look at the job you’re applying for and see if there are any skills that are required for it that align with what you’re passionate about . Remember, every answer you give to a hiring manager is an opportunity to demonstrate to them that you’re the perfect candidate!

4. Be passionate enough about your passion to share that passion:

Be prepared to talk about what your passion is and potentially answer follow up questions (especially if your passion is unique , you mad lint ball collector, you!).

5. Get excited:

Use the opportunity to talk about your passion to really engage your hiring manager. Part of what makes passion so exciting to them is being able to see how you act when you’re truly engaged in something you enjoy, even if it’s just talking about it.

This is an opportunity for an employer to not only see what drives you outside work, but to also get to know you a little bit better as a person, and not just as an employee. One of the things hiring managers look for are individuals who will mesh well with the already established corporate culture and one way for them to quickly see how you are when your guard is down and you’re truly excited is to ask you about your passion.

How NOT to answer the question “What Are You Passionate About?”

Of course, just like every question you’ll face in an interview, there are right ways and wrong ways to answer this question, starting with not being honest.

While discretion is a good idea if your passion is…ahem…unique (not everybody’s going to understand lint ball collecting), outright faking your way through an answer can be disastrous. An interviewer genuinely wants to know what drives you, and while it’s tempting to give them an answer that you think they’ll like as opposed to what’s honest (again, going back to the ‘don’t ever tell them this job is your passion’ statement from earlier) don’t let that temptation lead you into a situation where you find yourself lying.

Trust us when we tell you…an employer can tell.

Another mistake can be letting your enthusiasm for your passion take you over. Yes, an employer wants to see you genuinely excited to talk about what you love, but remember, this is still a job interview. Launching into an in-depth lecture on how exactly lint balls differ and what to look for when examining cotton fibers versus polyacrylic fibers probably isn’t a good way to spend an hour of your hiring manger’s time.

Finally, and we already touched on this a bit in the above tips section, but it’s worth repeating here… make sure the passion you choose to talk about is appropriate both for the audience you are sharing it with, and the job you’re applying for.

3 Example Answers For “What Are You Passionate About”

Now let’s take a look at three possible ways to answer the question “What are you passionate about.” Use these examples as an opportunity to craft your own responses but remember to make sure to really target both your audience and the job you’re applying for.

ENTRY LEVEL APPLYING FOR A JOB IN SALES

While this person might be ‘entry level,’ the skills they’ve demonstrated with their passion lets an employer know they have the capability to grow and learn in their position.

They’ve also demonstrated their desire to improve themselves and use that to help them advance , both valuable skills when dealing with sales . A winning attitude and the desire to take home that blue ribbon can easily be transferred to the desire to close a deal or make that sale.

This candidate isn’t satisfied with second place or the status quo and is going to do what it takes to do better, including analyzing their failure and using that knowledge to do better the next time.

MANAGEMENT APPLYING FOR A JOB AS A PROJECT LEADER

As odd as it sounds, a good DM is a great management candidate! Someone who is a well-seasoned DM already possess several solid skills that will help them to excel in almost any management position they’re hired for. A good DM is organized, can manage groups of individuals, is comfortable both leading and guiding , and is used to thinking quickly on their feet . A project leader is a DM in many ways. You’re all working towards a common goal and a good leader is going to be there to help the team navigate the process as well as analyze any problems that might arise and determine the best course of action when it comes to solving those problems.

EXECUTIVE POSITION IN A LARGE CORPORATION

Part of what makes a great executive is the ability to be a creative problem solver and to find solutions to large scale problems. This candidate has demonstrated through their passion that they approach problems in a calm manner, focusing their attention in a way that is creative and calm. They’re also demonstrating that they love to build and create , both important qualities to have in a leader.

Putting It All Together

In conclusion, remember, it’s not what you’re passionate about, but what that passion brings out in you that an employer will find valuable. Make sure that what you’re sharing with your hiring manager is not only genuine, but targeted and appropriate. Get excited, get enthusiastic, and above all…get hired!
