What is different in taking Theory of Knowledge online?
- Study alongside students from around the world.
- Gain experience of using the latest online learning tools.
- Regularly communicate with teachers and fellow students.
- Take part in interactive and engaging lessons that allow them to learn, review and practise easily.
- Practise essential 21st century skills such as digital literacy, collaboration and self-organisation.
Some things won’t be different though. Standards and expectations will be just as high as in a face to face classroom.
Activities and Assessment
The course material conveys the main underpinning concepts of TOK and provides an environment where various aspects of these can be discussed and debated. The global online classroom naturally presents opportunities for collaboration through the development of wikis and class projects, and the participation in live lessons and discussion forums. Students are encouraged to reflect on their learning and make regular journal entries throughout the course.
Summative assessments in the form of an essay, exhibition or presentation occur at the end of each unit (each six weeks). Specific time is allotted in the final weeks to complete the final essay and exhibition. Formative assessments include writing in wikis, journals and discussion forums throughout the course.
Advice from Our Teachers
In order to succeed in Theory of Knowledge, we recommend students set aside five to six hours a week.
