Water Conservation Essay

essay on water for grade 3

Introduction

Water is the most basic and important component of our lives. When we become thirsty, we drink water; we wash clothes, bathe and cook with water. Even though we are heavily dependent on water for many purposes, most of us do not face any hardship in obtaining it. But this is not the case with everyone. Certain sections of society face water scarcity, and they cannot meet their basic needs without water . This calls for an understanding of the significance of water and the ways to conserve it, which is discussed in this water conservation essay in English.

We need water to survive in this world. But this does not mean that we are conserving water for our needs alone. We must also be considerate of future generations by remembering that they have equal rights to resources in this world as we have. So, let us see the advantages and methods of conserving water in this essay.

Importance of Water Conservation

Although we claim that the majority of the Earth is covered in water, our selfish and careless use of it has led to the draining of water resources. The water conservation essay focuses on the importance of conserving water. Whether it be for domestic, industrial or agricultural purposes, we continue to depend on water for several tasks. Sometimes, we are not aware of how massively we use water and are negligent of the harm we do to water bodies. Moreover, water pollution is another contributing factor to water scarcity. Thus, this thoughtless use and pollution of water must be avoided, as it is our responsibility to take care of what is left and preserve them for future use.

Methods of Water Conservation

We say that we must conserve water, but you might be wondering how. In this importance of water conservation essay, we will see different methods and practices to conserve water. Every small effort should first begin from home, and if we try to conserve water through these measures, it will have a huge impact on the world as such. By closing the tap while brushing our teeth and teaching our children about this practice, we can save gallons of water every month. We must also look for leaks in pipes and taps and fix them regularly to prevent water wastage. Also, avoiding showers while taking a bath can save water .

In addition to these steps, remember to run machines and appliances, especially washing machines and dishwashers, on full load to conserve water. Apart from this, we can also look for other methods of conservation in this water conservation essay in English. Rainwater harvesting is the most popular method of conservation, where water is collected and filtered to use for agricultural purposes. We can also reuse and recycle water by pouring it into plants after washing the vegetables. More than anything, we must ensure not to pollute water by any means.

Water scarcity is a rising concern for us, and hence, we must pay attention to water-conserving methods. When we come together to fight for this cause, we will be able to create a significant change in conserving water. Water is crucial for the sustainability of life on earth. An essay on water pollution for classes 1, 2 and 3 will teach kids about this important issue.

Almost all the essential physical and natural activities of all living beings are dependent on water in some ways. Moreover, our climate and global temperature depend on the availability of water on land. Our atmosphere controls its temperature because of its physical property to change states. We all how crucial water is for life on earth. Therefore, we must preserve water, prevent pollution and reduce its wastage. In this article, we will write a water pollution essay in English to emphasise its importance.

When writing an essay for lower classes, your goal should be to deliver the basic knowledge efficiently. Here are some key points for writing an essay on water pollution.

  • The introductory paragraph of the essay should talk about the importance of water.
  • Write the definition of pollution. Talk about other types of pollution too.
  • Dedicate a portion to the water cycle.
  • Explain the properties of water to help kids understand how contaminants are introduced into natural resources.
  • Dedicate a short paragraph to the causes of pollution.
  • Next, write a short paragraph on the adverse effects of water pollution.
  • Lastly, conclude by mentioning a few ways to reduce water pollution.

When writing an essay for classes 1 and 2, you should have a knack for keeping it plain and simple. It is better to engage kids in writing in points and simple sentences to understand the basics of pollution. Here are 10 lines on water pollution for kids:

  • Water is important for sustaining life on earth.
  • It is essential for humans, animals, plants and all living beings for life and survival.
  • 71% area of our planet is covered in water. However, only about 3% of that water is fit for use.
  • Pollution is defined as the adverse physical change in natural resources due to the introduction of contaminants
  • Water Pollution refers to the phenomenon where chemicals and other contaminants pollute freshwater.
  • It is difficult to treat severely polluted water, which leads to wastage, and this is the primary cause of water scarcity in most parts of India.
  • When sources of water like rivers, seas, and oceans get polluted, it makes survival difficult for fish and other marine lives.
  • The water cycle is the phenomenon by which nature regulates the supply of freshwater and controls the temperature of the surface.
  • The water cycle includes evaporation, transpiration, condensation, precipitation, and infiltration.
  • Some common causes of water pollution include sewage, sediments, toxins, petroleum oil pollution, and thermal pollution.

When writing informative essays for lower classes, it is crucial to stick to the facts. Avoid too many technical details. Here is how to write a paragraph on water pollution for kids.

Water is crucial for the sustenance of life on earth. Living beings consume water to regulate their body temperature and facilitate digestion. Roughly 60% of our body is made of water, which is central to our survival. However, consuming polluted water can lead to severe health issues. Therefore, we must try to keep our freshwater sources clean. Pollution occurs when there are contaminants in natural sources that cause adverse physical changes. It also adversely affects the marine life. Some common causes of water pollution are industrial chemicals, sewages, thermal pollution, and petroleum oil pollution. We can reduce water pollution by bringing strict regulations and imposing hefty penalties on water-polluting industries.

A short essay on water pollution for kids should contain all the basic details like what is water pollution, the water cycle, the causes of water pollution, and the effects of water pollution. Here is an essay on water pollution in 150 words.

Water is one of the primary reasons that earth sustains life. Roughly 60% of the human body is made of water too. Moreover, 71% of our planet is also covered in water, but only about 3% of that is potable or fit to use. This limited supply of potable water is also known as freshwater, and it is crucial to preserve freshwater if we want to ensure sustainability. However, freshwater reserves have depleted due to the mass wastage of water and water pollution. This has led to critical problems in many parts of the world.

Water pollution means introducing contaminants in freshwater resources that cause adverse physical change. Primarily, water pollution is caused by sewage, plastic, toxins, industrial waste, and petroleum waste. When these contaminants seep into the freshwater sources, they cause health issues to people who consume them directly or indirectly. Water pollution affects the lives of fish and other marine animals.

We can educate ourselves on preserving water resources by not throwing plastic waste in rivers during picnics and trips. Try to never drain fat and grease to avoid polluting sewers which ultimately land in the natural resources.

Water is crucial for all the life forms on earth. Roughly 60% of our body has water, which means we can’t ignore the physiological importance of water for survival. Also, water is equally crucial for nature because that’s how nature controls the temperature and seasons and ensures livable conditions for us. Here is an example of how to write an essay for class 3.

Around 71% of the earth is covered in water, but we can’t consume all of the water available on the earth because approximately 97% of this water is saline and not fit for consumption. This makes it very important to save the limited freshwater resources. We use freshwater for important tasks such as cooking, agriculture, washing, drinking, etc.

What Is Water Pollution And The Water Cycle?

Water is said to be polluted when there are traces of dissolved toxins found in it, making it harmful to one’s health. Now, let’s look at the details of the water cycle to understand the adverse physical change caused by water pollution. It is pertinent to note that the physical property of water allows it to change states like solid, liquid and gas. Here are the processes involved in the water cycle:

  • Evaporation:  This is the first step in the water cycle. The water on the surface of large water bodies heats up due to the sun and rises to form vapours.
  • Transpiration:  Plants and trees also lose water in the atmosphere, in a process called transpiration. Transpiration is the main cause of rain in the Amazon rainforests.
  • Condensation: The water that rises in the form of vapour due to heat begins to cool down eventually to form clouds. This is known as condensation.
  • Precipitation:  When the winds blow profusely, the water-laden clouds collide, leading to rainfall. This phenomenon is called precipitation.
  • Infiltration:  When the rain falls on the earth, the water either flows back into the water bodies or gets absorbed by the soil. This phenomenon is known as infiltration.

Common Causes Of Water Pollution

Some common causes of water pollution are:

  • Domestic Sewage Containing Pathogens

Domestic sewage is full of harmful chemicals like phosphorus and mercury, and this sewage sometimes is released directly into a water source without any treatment.

  • Toxins From Industrial or Factory Waste

Chemical waste from the industries is one of the common causes of water pollution. Such waste is produced in high volumes, which pollutes the nearby water source.

  • The Frequent Oil Spills in Seas and Oceans

Petroleum and other related products are traded via sea routes. The ships carrying these products often fail the safety measures and spill the oil on the seas. The oil forms a thin layer on the surface and suffocates marine life.

Major Effects Of Water Pollution

  • Climate Change

Water pollution leads to climate change and water scarcity. It is crucial to recycle water and reuse it if we want to ensure sustainability.

  • Causing Disease

When people consume polluted freshwater, they become susceptible to terminal diseases. Diseases like cholera, typhoid, etc., are common among people living near a polluted freshwater source.

  • Endangering Marine Life

Several marine species and fishes have been pushed to extinction due to water pollution. The most common example is the bleaching of corals in Australia.

Ways To Prevent Water Pollution

  • Legislative Measures

Government must bring laws to keep a check on industrial and agricultural waste. Stringent laws are the need of the hour, and hefty penalties can add a deterring effect and cause a behavioural change.

  • Agricultural Measures

Farmers must be encouraged to use organic fertilisers. Fertilisers have harmful chemicals that are washed down during irrigation, and these chemicals enter the lakes and rivers and cause water pollution. Hence, we must encourage farmers to use organic fertilisers.

There is no alternative to education. Therefore, we must raise awareness about this issue via modules and public seminars.

Here are some interesting facts on the issue of water pollution for kids:

  • One out of three people globally doesn’t have access to safe drinking water.
  • Chlorination of water is the most common method of water purification.
  • The Yamuna is the most polluted river in India.
  • Several marine species have been pushed to extinction because of plastic waste dumping in water bodies.
  • BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) is the indicator of water pollution.

This essay highlights the definition of water pollution and articulates several facts related to it. Your child will learn how to structure an essay and include all the relevant points. This essay will teach your kid about the importance of water in our lives.

Which River Is The Most Highly Polluted in India?

River Yamuna is India’s most highly polluted river.

Why Is It Important For Us To Prevent Water Pollution?

Water is the most crucial for all life forms on earth. We use water to hydrate ourselves and carry out other routine tasks such as cooking, washing, etc. It is important to prevent water pollution because polluted water can lead to terminal diseases and adversely affect life on earth.

Our water bodies call for help, and we must come forward to take a step toward saving them. Dealing with water pollution has to be a group effort in which people from across the globe have to give their due contribution.

Essay on Save Water Save Life

Water is the most important and valuable natural resource on Earth. It sustains all life. There is no life without water. Water is not only important for human beings but for the entire ecosystem. Without enough water, the existence of humans, as well as animals, is next to impossible. After fresh air, water is the second most important natural resource for the survival of any living being.

Water is necessary for the survival of each living creature on this planet, be it a small worm, plant, or full-grown tree.  Animals and plants  cannot survive without water. About 71% of Earth’s surface is covered with water. Unfortunately, only 3% of the water available  is freshwater. About two-thirds of the freshwater lies in the form of frozen glaciers and ice caps. The rest of the small portion is available in the form of groundwater and surface water.

We totally depend on water for multiple purposes. Water is used in agriculture for the irrigation of crops. We use water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, bathing, and other domestic purposes. Water is used for recreational activities. In industries, water is used as a coolant, solvent and also used in other manufacturing purposes. Hydroelectricity is generated with the help of water. Water is also used for navigation and transportation of goods. This tells us how water is the most essential component of life and every drop of water is vital for sustenance. Therefore, water conservation is important to save life on this planet.

Importance of Water:

The basic use of water is drinking, bathing, agriculture, irrigation, hospitality, factories, etc.

Water helps in blood circulation and improves metabolism in the human body

The entire aquatic ecosystem is located in water. It is a home for all the aquatic animals

Water is a major source of transportation after land and air.

Water aids in saliva secretion and oxygen delivery to our bodily cells.

Some countries have abundant water resources for their residents and serve        the people, whereas others lack natural resources even for survival.

Depletion of fresh water has become a threat to our existence. According to some scientists, the quantity and the quality of water are degrading day by day. Although Earth is covered with almost 71% of water, the quality is that we cannot use it in day-to-day life for domestic purposes. Water quality is so poor that people in some places are prone to several water-borne diseases such as Eluru, caused by contaminated water.

These instances are eye-opening examples and should be taken seriously for better living conditions for us and our future generation.

Below are the Reasons for Shortage of Fresh Water:

Growth of population leads to excessive consumption of water.

Daily excessive wastage of water.

The rapid growth of industries has increased the problem of proper disposal of waste material from them. The waste products from these industries contain extremely poisonous elements that are polluting the rivers and other water bodies.

Pesticides and chemical fertilisers that are used to treat crops also pollute the fresh water.

Sewage waste that is dumped into the rivers is making the water unsuitable for drinking and washing causing several water-borne diseases like cholera, jaundice and typhoid.

Use of plastics and disposing them carelessly in the water bodies are affecting aquatic life and further disturbing the entire ecosystem.

Global warming is another major reason for the scarcity of water on earth. According to several types of research, because of global warming, the world will face more stress for water scarcity till the year 2050.

We now need to be aware of the depletion of fresh water and take adequate    measures to stop this.

Saving Water: Need of the Hour

Many places face extreme water scarcity due to extremely bad weather conditions, leading to less rainfall and groundwater depletion. In other parts of the world, groundwater is either unusable or overused. As the world's population is growing, so increase in industries and globalisation, causing groundwater to be overused and resulting in water scarcity.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) data shows that many people on this planet don't have access to clean and fresh drinking water. These situations are becoming worse day by day, and we need an immediate plan to control this situation. Various collective measures have to be taken by every individual on this planet and the government of every country to control water scarcity.

Government should impose some strict rules for the conservation of water. The government and the citizens have to take the initiative to create awareness and promote the “conservation of water.” One such initiative taken by the Modi government in India was “JANSHAKTI FOR JALSHAKTI.” This programme began as a means of working toward a brighter future.

Initiatives taken by Some State Governments:

The Punjab government contributed to saving water resources by avoiding waterlogging and fixing the drain  leakage.

The Rajasthan government has taken the initiative to construct small ponds, which  helped the local people of Rajasthan in many ways.

Villages of Telangana have constructed water tanks to conserve rainwater for future use.

These states are an inspiration, and others should also take a step forward to conserve and clean the water, water bodies, and groundwater.

Water saving should be and is the universal responsibility of every human being, living on this Earth.

There are many ways in which we can save water and reduce their pollution:

Be responsible to save water daily. Use only the required amount of water and avoid wastage. We should use water wisely.

We should use a washing machine to full capacity for washing clothes.

We should not let the tap run while washing hands and face.

We should water plants in the evening or early morning to minimise evaporation.

We should make provisions to store rainwater on rooftops and reuse the water for household purposes.

Bigger Communities and farmers should adapt to the practice of Rainwater harvesting.

The industrial waste should be treated properly instead of dumping it into rivers.

We should stop using plastics and dispose of them in an adequate way.

We can make people aware about water problems by means of social campaigns and other ways.

We should educate our children about water saving from an early age.

Reusing the water is an important way to save and prevent the scarcity of water. Bathing water can be recycled and used for planting or cleaning.

Rainwater harvesting is the method of collecting rainwater and conserving them for future use.

Conservation of groundwater is another important method in the preservation of groundwater and using it in the future.

 Prevention of waterlogging.

We cannot imagine our lives without water. It is unfortunate that mankind has neglected this precious gift from God. Conservation of water is a necessity to save life. All living organisms on this planet need water to survive. If we do not give importance to saving or conservation of water then our future generations will face water scarcity.

In Unit 2, students build on their knowledge of the three water issues begun in Unit 1--access to water, demands on water, and water pollution--to develop an opinion on the importance of conserving water. In the first half of the unit, they read new texts and compare the point of view of the authors to their own point of view about water. In the second half of the unit, students research actions to help solve the water issues and consider the importance of solving these issues. Then, with teacher guidance, students write an opinion essay using the Painted Essay(r) structure about the importance of conserving water through the lens of water pollution, drawing from their research throughout the module so far. For the End of Unit 2 Assessment, students plan and write a new opinion essay about the importance of conserving water through the lens of demand for water.

Big Ideas & Guiding Questions

  • Why are the world's freshwater sources threatened?
  • Water is a finite resource.
  • The demands on water and water pollution threaten our freshwater sources.
  • Due to rainfall, freshwater is not distributed equally around the world.
  • How do people persuade others to take action to contribute to a better world?
  • People persuade others to take action by explaining the issue with researched facts and evidence and by providing realistic, manageable solutions in an engaging and meaningful way
  • Topic: Developing an Opinion: The Importance of Water Conservation
  • Task: For the mid-unit assessment, students read a new text and answer selected-response questions, comparing the point of view of the author to their own point of view. For the end of unit assessment, students plan and write an opinion essay about the importance of conserving water.
  • Targets (standards explicitly taught and assessed): RI.3.1, RI.3.6, W.3.1, W.3.4, L.3.1b, L.3.5a
  • Texts:  One Well: The Story of Water on Earth, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind , "Real Lives: Angola, Africa," "Dry Days in Australia"

Each unit in the 3-5 Language Arts Curriculum has two standards-based assessments built in, one mid-unit assessment and one end of unit assessment. The module concludes with a performance task at the end of Unit 3 to synthesize their understanding of what they accomplished through supported, standards-based writing.

This module is designed to address English Language Arts standards and to be taught during the literacy block of the school day. However, the module intentionally incorporates science content that many teachers may be teaching during other parts of the day. These intentional connections are described below.

Next Generation Science Standards:

Life Science Performance Expectation:

Habits of Character/Social-Emotional Learning Focus

Central to EL Education's curriculum is a focus on "habits of character" and social-emotional learning. Students work to become effective learners, developing mindsets and skills for success in college, career, and life (e.g., initiative, responsibility, perseverance, collaboration); work to become ethical people by treating others well and standing up for what is right (e.g., empathy, integrity, respect, compassion); and work to contribute to a better world, putting their learning to use to improve communities (e.g., citizenship, service).

In this unit, students work to contribute to a better world , taking care of and improving the environment and applying their learning to help the environment when planning and writing their opinion essays

Each unit is made up of a sequence of between 5-20 lessons. The “unit at a glance” chart in the curriculum map breaks down each unit into its lessons, to show how the curriculum is organized in terms of standards address, supporting targets, ongoing assessment, and protocols. It also indicates which lessons include the mid-unit and end-of-unit assessments.

View the unit-at-a-glance chart

The ability to read and comprehend text is the heart of literacy instruction. Comprehension is taught, reinforced, and assessed across both components of this curriculum: module lessons and the Additional Language and Literacy block.

In this unit, students continue to read research texts independently for homework and engage in frequent research reading shares during the module lesson for accountability.

The Meeting Students' Needs column in each lesson contains support for both ELLs and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and some supports can serve a wide range of student needs. However, ELLs have unique needs that cannot always be met with UDL support. According to federal guidelines, ELLs must be given access to the curriculum with appropriate supports, such as those that are specifically identified as "For ELLs" in the Meeting Students' Needs column.

  • Prioritizing lessons for classrooms with many ELLs: To prepare for the Unit 2 assessments, consider prioritizing and expanding instruction in Lessons 2-3, which establish the routine for comparing and contrasting point of view and include a two-day Language Dive; and Lessons 7-11, which focus on planning an opinion essay and writing each paragraph. Be sure to complete the Language Dive in Lesson 5. If necessary, consider placing less focus on and condensing instruction in Lessons 1 and 12, which provide helpful feedback for students but don't introduce as many new concepts.
  • Language Dives: All students participate in Language Dives in Lessons 2, 3, and 5. These Language Dives support ELLs and all students in deconstructing, reconstructing, and practicing the meaning and structures of sentences from T he Boy Who Harnessed the Wind and the Model Opinion Essay: Access to Water. Many lessons also include optional Mini Language Dives for ELLs. Refer to the Tools page for additional information on Language Dives.
  • Conversation Cues: Encourage productive and equitable conversation with Goals 1-4 Conversation Cues (adapted from Michaels, Sarah and O'Connor, Cathy. Talk Science Primer . Cambridge, MA: TERC, 2012. Based on Chapin, S., O'Connor, C., and Anderson, N. [2009]. Classroom Discussions: Using Math Talk to Help Students Learn, Grades K-6 . Second Edition. Sausalito, CA: Math Solutions Publications). Refer to the  Tools page for additional information on Conversation Cues.
  • Diversity and inclusion: Investigate the routines, practices, rituals, beliefs, norms, and experiences that are important to ELLs and their families. Integrate this background into the classroom as students continue to explore and discuss the topics of water access, water pollution, and demands on water throughout One Well, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, and other informational texts. Be sensitive to students' experiences and perspectives on these topics and foster inclusive action by creating space for students to express their feelings about issues embedded in the text, while being aware that these discussions may unearth trauma or social stigma. Consult with a guidance counselor, school social worker, or ESL teacher for further investigation of diversity and inclusion.
  • Literal and nonliteral meanings of words and phrases: The two-day Language Dive in Lessons 2-3 of this unit supports students in distinguishing between the literal and nonliteral meanings of words and phrases by focusing on a sentence from The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind that uses nonliteral language. Encourage students to notice nonliteral meanings of words and phrases throughout other parts of their day as well, in conversations and texts from other subject areas.
  • Writing opinion essays: Students receive explicit instruction in how to craft an opinion essay: introductory paragraph, focus statement with Points 1 and 2, body paragraphs, and concluding paragraph. Students use the Painted Essay(r) format. Students who are still trying to comprehend the language itself may also need additional support to grasp this organizational structure. Use color-coding and manipulatives inspired by the Painted Essay(r) routines, such as paragraph strips, to support this skill. Also, this essay structure may be different from the text structure students may be familiar with in their home languages. Compare and contrast home language text structure whenever possible.
  • Regular and irregular plural nouns: The Language Dive in Lesson 5 invites students to identify and form both regular and irregular plural nouns. Students then receive explicit instruction in forming and using regular plural nouns in Lesson 8, and in forming and using irregular plural nouns in Lesson 11. This instruction will benefit ELLs by preparing them for the work they will do in revising their opinion essays during the module lessons, as well as preparing them for their revisions in the end of unit assessment. Support students by providing additional practice with regular and irregular plural nouns, including playing a regular and irregular plural noun practice game suggested in the Meeting Students' Needs column in Lessons 8 and 11. Additionally, encourage students to identify regular and irregular plural nouns throughout other parts of their day and add them as examples on the Regular and Irregular Plural Nouns anchor charts introduced in the module lessons.
  • Linking words and phrases: In the second half of the unit, students receive explicit instruction in identifying and using linking words and phrases. This instruction will benefit ELLs by preparing them for the work they will do in revising their opinion essays during the module lessons, as well as preparing them for their revisions in the end of unit assessment. Support students by providing additional practice with linking words and phrases as necessary. Additionally, encourage students to use varying linking words and phrases throughout the unit in their speaking, as well as in their writing.
  • Celebration: Celebrate the courage, enthusiasm, diversity, and bilingual assets that ELLs bring to the classroom.
  • Strategic grouping: Since students work with partners to plan informative essays and to practice reading fluency, seriously consider matching ELLs to a partner who has greater language proficiency. The conversations that happen as a result of such strategic pairing will greatly serve the language development of both partners. During reading fluency practice, more proficient readers can provide helpful feedback to students who are less confident.
  • Language processing time: Give ELLs sufficient time to think about what they want to say before they share with other students or write.
  • Writing and essay organization: Students receive explicit instruction in how to craft an informational essay: introductory paragraph, focus statement, proof paragraphs, and concluding paragraph. Students use the Painted Essay(r) format. Students who are still trying to comprehend the language itself may also need additional support grasping this organizational structure. Use color-coding and manipulatives inspired by the Painted Essay(r) routines, such as sentence strips, to support this skill. Also, this essay structure may be different from the text structure students may be familiar with in their home languages. Compare and contrast home language text structure whenever possible.
  • Analyzing figurative language and determining main idea: Students participate in two close reading sessions during which they will hone their comprehension and interpretive skills by analyzing figurative language and determining details that support the main idea of text. Students will complete a series of note-catchers to help them process these concepts. It may be difficult for some students to grasp the concepts behind figurative language. Many students may need additional support to comprehend literal language, so figurative language may seem abstract to them. Spend additional time unpacking the meaning of figurative phrases.

essay on water for grade 3

384 Words Essay On Water for class or Grade 3

essay on water for grade 3

(384 Words): Water is one of the most precious resources; which is God gifted to us. We see water falling as rain, flowing in the river, staying in the lake, coming from tap. 3 by 4 part of earth is covered with water. It is very cheap natural resources; which is going to cost more than gold. Is it a joke? Not at all, it is the future forecast. APJ Abul Kalam showed a presentation of human future in which he has shown a child of 8 years is looking as of 60 years old because of water shortage and high temperature. He also pointed that many gun men protecting and guarding water from general people. This prediction has been derived from water history and its present trends. So it is right time to be careful about water future to secure future of the globe.

If history of civilisation is studied then it can be concluded that the entire civilisation from ancient time till date developed near water source. Examples of this civil section are Mesopotamia, Egyptian, Sindhu etc. The success of big cities like New York, London, Rotterdam, Shanghai Paris, Honk Kong, New Delhi etc. is because of easy availability of water from the river; near which these cities are situated. Also all the big cities of India are situated at the bank of river.

Water fraction in our body is about 60% by weight. Therefore to keep us live water has 60% role. The biggest role of water is in the water-cycle; which causes rain on the Earth. This rain water is the essence of life of all living things.

Little water is a crisis; huge water is cause of death sufficient water is life. Therefore water needs very important care and efficient water management policy. There must be high effort towards installing waste water recycling Plant. Government must bring a policy and law to economise the waste water recycling Plant to establish the technology in advance. So that there would not be to dig well at the time of need.

In simple way we can say that we have to save water, we have to harvest water and we have to think while using water to safeguard our future. The time has come for engineers to take the responsibility for ensuring water future.

Just as air, water is also important for life. Besides, water consumption, water pollution, and water scarcity are also some of the major water-related issues that need attention so that we can conserve water.

Every year we celebrate World Water Day on 22 March. This day is celebrated to spread awareness about the importance of water and run campaigns to conserve water on Earth. Water is one of the Earth’s most precious resources. But the world is facing water scarcity. As per the SDA report 2022, around 2 billion people worldwide are lacking safe drinking water. This means they are more vulnerable to diseases and unhealthy life.

Apart from the increasing population, climatic change is also hampering the quality of water. Floods and Droughts are more frequent due to the vulnerability of climate, thereby increasing the need to conserve water.

Water conservation is vital to meet the growing global demand for fresh water. Water consumption is very high for agriculture, industry, and households. By conserving water, we can ensure that there is a surplus amount of water to use and avoid conflicts over this limited resource.

Water conservation helps to maintain a balance in the ecosystem because every living thing on this planet is directly associated with the use of water. Reducing water consumption reduces the energy footprint associated with water supply.

The best ways of water conservation are rainwater harvesting , installing water plants, reusing water for gardening purposes, turning off taps when not in use, proper irrigation, installing automatic tap shut-off devices, not polluting water sources, and many more.

If we don’t want to witness the world die due to water scarcity then, it’s high time to conserve water and save the planet and future generations.

essay on water pollution

Water and Water Cycle

As you already know water is everywhere and all around.  However, we have a fixed amount of water on earth. It just changes its states and goes through a cyclic order, known as the Water Cycle. The water cycle is a natural process that is continuous in nature. It is the pattern in which the water from oceans, seas, lakes, etc gets evaporated and turns to vapor. After which it goes through the process of condensation, and finally precipitation when it falls back to earth as rain or snow.

What is Water Pollution?

Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (like oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, aquifers, and groundwater) usually caused due to human activities. Water pollution is any change, minor or major in the physical, chemical or biological properties of water that eventually leads to a detrimental consequence of any living organism . Drinking water, called Potable Water, is considered safe enough for human and animal consumption.

Sources of Water Pollution

  • Domestic Waste
  • Industrial effluents
  • Insecticides and pesticides
  • Detergents and Fertilizers

Some of the water pollutions are caused by direct Sources, such as factories, waste management facilities, refineries, etc, that directly releases waste and dangerous by-products into the nearest water source without treating them. Indirect sources include pollutants that infuse in the water bodies via groundwater or soil or via the atmosphere through acidic rain.

Effects of Pollution of Water

The effects of Water Pollution are:

Diseases: In humans, drinking or consuming polluted water in any way has many disastrous effects on our health. It causes typhoid, cholera, hepatitis and various other diseases.

Eradication of Ecosystem: Ecosystem is extremely dynamic and responds to even small changes in the environment. Increasing water pollution can cause an entire ecosystem to collapse if left unchecked.

Eutrophication: Chemicals accumulation and infusion in a water body, encourages the growth of algae. The algae form a layer on top of the pond or lake. Bacteria feed on this algae and this event decreases the amount of oxygen in the water body, severely affecting the aquatic life there

Effects of the food chain: Turmoil in food chain happens when the aquatic animals (fish, prawns, seahorse, etc) consume the toxins and pollutants in the water,  and then the humans consume them.

Prevention of Water Pollution

The best way to prevent large-scale water pollution is to try and reduce its harmful effects. There are numerous small changes we can make to protect ourselves from a future where water is scarce.

Conserve Water: Conserving water should be our first aim. Water wastage is a major problem globally and we are only now waking up to the issue. Simple small changes made domestically will make a huge difference.

Treatment of sewage: Treating waste products before disposing of it in water bodies helps reduce water pollution on a large scale. Agriculture or other industries can reuse this wastewater by reducing its toxic contents.

Use of environment-friendly products: By using soluble products that do not go on to become pollutants, we can reduce the amount of water pollution caused by a household.

Life is ultimately about choices and so is water pollution. We cannot live with sewage-strewn beaches, contaminated rivers , and fish that are poisonous to drink and eat. To avoid these scenarios,  we can work together to keep the environment clean so the water bodies, plants, animals, and people who depend on it remain healthy. We can take individual or teamed action to help reduce water pollution. As an example, by using environmentally friendly detergents, not pouring oil down the drains, reducing the usage of pesticides, and so on. We can take community action too to keep our rivers and seas cleaner. And we can take action as countries and continents to pass laws against water pollution. Working together, we can make water pollution less of a problem—and the world a better place.
