How to play cootie catcher? Where should you write these ideas on the Paper Fortune teller?

Playing cootie catcher is fairly easy. All you have to do is create your origami and add the desired fortune tellers to it. You can use some of the examples above and have a great time with your partner, friends, your child or even yourself.

To create a cootie catcher you will need a square paper of any size that you are comfortable with. (I personally use this 6-inch origami paper for best results) You will have to crease two corners at a time and press them to create a line for each corner. Do that for all corners before you take each corner and fold it into the middle.

Once you folded the corners, flip the paper over and fold all the corners into the middle. The entire process shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. You should write down a fortune teller under each inside flap. On the surface of each flap you can write a number. It can be a random number as long as all the numbers are different. However, the best way to do it is by writing a series of consecutive numbers.

The last step is to fold your origami in half. After you do that you will unfold it and refold it again. You will have pockets underneath the cootie catcher where you can place your fingers. To use your cootie catcher you will stick your thumb and two fingers in the pockets and open the origami to reveal a fortune teller.

Once you created your origami, you are ready to play your game. The player will choose a number and you will open the fortune teller message by using your fingers inside the cootie catcher pockets. You should move your fingers up and down as well as side to side in order to reveal the message. This can be a great source of fun for you and your partner, friend, or kid.

How to Make a Paper Fortune Teller

A single sheet of paper and a few origami folds are all you need in order to spend hours of fun finding out what luck you have in store. 

Humans have always had a fascination with what the future holds. We have our palms read, ask questions with Magic 8-Balls, and love to crack open fortune cookies hoping it will tell us that something good is on the horizon. These childhood favorites are a schoolyard staple. Make one to let your friends know what is in store for them. For extra-fancy versions, use patterned origami paper instead of plain or use a pair of scissors to cut out embellishments like letters, numbers, and stick-on stars.

Remember how to play ? First, hold the fortune teller: Insert your thumbs and index fingers into the four square flaps on one side, and move your fingers back and forth, opening the fortune teller's "mouth" in alternating directions. Have someone pick a panel from the first four flaps, and open and close the teller once for each letter in that word; repeat twice with the words, letters, or numbers on the inside triangles. Pick one last time; lift the flap, and reveal their fortune.

What You'll Need

• Card stock paper (Colorbok Pastel Smooth Card Stock, 8.5" by 11")

Instructions

Fold a square piece of paper in half, then in half again. Open, and smooth flat.

Fold each of the four corners into the center, creating a smaller square.

Fold the paper in half and unfold; fold in half the other way and unfold. Write words, letters, or numbers on each of the four flaps and the eight triangles inside the teller.

Decorate your teller: On the outermost part of the teller, draw or glue colored paper circles. On the next layer, pick numbers to put on each smaller triangle. On the last layer, lift each flap to write "fortunes" underneath.

A fortune-teller is someone who, after examining something like the lines on your hand, tells you what they believe will happen to you in the future.

However, children's games employ this style of origami. Eight flaps on the inside of the fortune teller, each hiding a message, are labeled with colors or numbers to offer as possibilities for a player to choose from. Based on the player's decisions, the person operating the fortune teller manipulates the origami until one of the concealed messages is ultimately exposed. These messages might be tasks that the player needs to complete or they could pretend to be answers (thus the name).

There are various ways to use the fortune teller. The fortune teller holds the four corners of the paper with the index fingers and thumbs on both hands, keeping two pairs of corners together and the other two pairs apart so that only half of the internal sides of the corners are visible.

How to Play a Game Using an Origami Paper Fortune Teller?

Here's how to play. Ask a friend to pick a number from 1 to 10. Then open and close the fortune teller while counting to and stopping at the chosen number. Then ask your friend to pick a color. After a color is picked, open the flap containing that color and read the prewritten fortune to him or her.

There are several comparable techniques used to do manipulations. Another way to play. The player will typically ask the person holding the fortune teller a question, and the device will respond with the appropriate prediction. A number or color is then requested by the bearer. The holder switches between the two sets of colors and numbers inside the fortune teller using their fingers once the number or color has been selected. According to the number of letters in the color chosen, the number initially selected, or the sum of the two, the holder changes these spots a certain number of times.

Introduction: How to Make Paper Fortune Tellers

Paper fortune tellers are fun little origami projects for predicting someone's future.  They can be for silly things like questions  magic 8 ball would answer.  The outside has a color or number.  Someone picks the number/color and the fortune teller is open/closed the corresponding number of times.  Then the person picks a number/color/letter/etc. on one of the inside tabs and whatever is says underneath is that person's fortune!

Take a standard 8.5 x 11 inch sheet of paper.  This will be what you use to make your paper fortune teller.

The goal is to get a perfect 8.5 x 8.5 inch square.  First, lay the paper down vertically on a flat surface in front of you.

Fold one of the top corners until the top edge of the paper is exactly in line with the side opposite of the corner that you started at.  The result should look like a right trapezoid. 

The rectangle at the bottom of the piece of paper needs to be discarded.  There are two ways to get rid of this. Option 1:   Fold along where the folded down portion of paper and the rectangle meet.  Do this repeatedly and crease the fold each time.  After 3 or 4 folds, the paper should tear along the fold line. Option 2: Cut a straight line parallel with the bottom of the page along the line where the folded portion of paper and the small rectangle meet.   The result should be a perfect square folded in half.

Now that you have the square, observe the fold line going from corner to opposite corner.  Create another fold line going from the corners that do not currently have the fold line; corner to opposite corner.  Fold in the same direction as the other fold is in.  (So if the paper folds towards you along the diagonal, then the new fold should  also  fold towards you.)  The result should be a square with two intersecting folds along the diagonals.  The folds should make four identical triangles within the square, with the tops all meeting in the middle.

Now turn the paper over so that the two diagonal folds will be folding the paper away from you.  Take the four corners and fold them inwards towards the center.  Use the intersection of the folds as a reference for where the four corners should meet.  The result should look like a smaller square.  

Repeat Step 6:  Turn the paper over and fold the new corners inwards towards the middle making an even smaller square.  The part you see now is the inside of the paper fortune teller.

Now fold and unfold the square in half both ways.  The outside part of the paper fortune teller should be on the outer part of the fold.  This will ensure that the fortune teller will work.

Open up the bottom of the paper fortune teller and push out the flaps as shown in the image.  This is where you will put your fingers.

Congratulations!  You've made your paper fortune teller.  You can decorate it however you wish.  Just pull the tabs back and forth.  Have fun!!! WARNING!!! Vigorous fortune telling may result in paper cuts which may result in blood loss and an unsightly cut.  If this happens, stop crying and get a band-aid.
