Social Issues Essay

Social issues are the problems that affect the masses. These are due to current situations and protracted lived disagreements and complications that are difficult to resolve due to different beliefs, viewpoints and opinions. Here are a few sample essays on ‘social issues’.

100 Words Essay On Social Issues

Social issues are due to traditional and cultural stereotypes harming ordinary people, which need immediate attention. Social problems are subjective. They mean different things to different people. Social issues include poverty, child marriage, violence, crime, illiteracy, racial discrimination, gender bias, economic inequality, caste discrimination etc. Poverty is a severe social issue in rural areas, giving way to a lack of food and education, malnutrition, crime and violence. Gender bias and casteism are very evident in developing countries. Lack of education has resulted in issues like child marriages and racial discrimination. Modern society has resulted in new issues like pollution, climate change, corruption and terrorism.

Social Issues Essay

These issues have plagued every country, society and, at some point, every household. These issues can be solved with strategic planning and educating people about them.

200 Words Essay On Social Issues

Numerous social issues have severely paralyzed our society. Ancient social issues like Sati, Polio etc., had taken tremendous effort to eradicate. Social problems aren’t just the ill that need solutions; they are topics of debate that affect a particular set of people differently. These are the result of various happenings in society by humans that affect them only.

Social Issues that require immediate attention

Poverty - Unequal distribution of the economy in the urban and rural areas has resulted in a higher level of poverty in the rural part of the country. As a result, many people need access to basic human needs like food, clothing and shelter.

Gender discrimination - Pay disparity between males and females is evident in many walks of our lives. Lack of female representatives in parliament or government duties are some issues the government is trying to tackle. Female infanticide is one of the main reasons for the unequal gender ratio in India.

Other social issues - Religion and Caste based discrimination are significant issues in India. They lead to communal riots.

Other issues like child labour, women empowerment, fundamental human rights, and national wars exist in many parts of the world.

We face these issues regularly, and these lead to violence and anarchy. Changing the mindset of people is the first step towards change. Governments and NGOs are actively moving towards enhancing these situations.

500 Words Essay On Social Issues

Social issues have existed since before civilization. Social problems occur when people’s views and beliefs don’t align. They affect the growth and peace of the country adversely and in the long run, affecting its development too. Pre-Independent India faced social issues like sati practise, untouchability, female infanticide, polygamy, female discrimination etc. The fact that some of these issues still prevail in a few parts of our country is undeniable. Issues like poverty, illiteracy, economic inequalities, unemployment, drug abuse, gender disparity, child abuse, climate change, corruption, casteism etc., have plagued modern India. Advances in science and technology have resulted in new socio-environmental issues like climate change, pollution, and deforestation.

Primary Cause For Social Issues

Described as a ‘Melting Pot, ’ India is home to 28 states, 8 Union territories, and 36 entities. These states and UT follow different cultural traditions, languages, music and art. India is an accurate representation of the term “Unity in diversity.” With diversity comes diverse opinions and beliefs. Sometimes these opinions can’t align, resulting in disputes that negatively affect society, leading to social issues.

Major Social issues

Poverty -Around 17% of the Indian population lives in poverty. Research shows people earn as little as 1059/- in rural India. High population, Illiteracy, unequal distribution of wealth, lack of financial resources, and unemployment are significant reasons for Poverty. Poverty leads to homelessness, less access to health care, lack of food and malnutrition.

Communalism - Casteism, Religion-based discrimination gives way to communal riots now and then. Dividing people based on their caste and religion is known as communalism. Political elements add fuel to this fire. India has witnessed a few of the worst riots, like the Mumbai riots of 1991, the Ayodhya riots, Godra riots. The caste system is a deep-rooted problem in India. Removal of Caste based reservations in education and employment can be the first step towards removing this discrimination.

Gender Discrimination - This issue impacts all developing countries. Females aren’t given equal opportunities as men. The Dowry system has affected females and their families adversely. There are many households where women are not allowed to work or obtain higher education. Female foeticide is banned now, but it has resulted in an unequal gender ratio. Pay disparity based on gender is also present.

Corruption - Abusing one’s power for personal gains is corruption. It is a deep-rooted problem of India slowing the economic development of our country, which is present both in the private and public sectors. Commonwealth scams, 2G scams, 3g scams, and Satyam scams are some of the significant frauds that recently came to light. Moral laws must be laid out and practiced by everyone to become a corruption-free country.

Solution To Social Problems

The first step is to educate the masses about these issues and create awareness about them. Governments and NGOs enforce strict laws and schemes. Recognising the origin of the problem and discussing all aspects with an open mind is the first step towards finding a solution. We have successfully dealt with issues like Sati and polygamy in the past. If proper steps, along with everyone's support, are taken, we have hope to overcome the current problems.

What is Social Issues?

Social issues are problems or conditions that affect individuals or society as a whole and are often related to social and economic inequalities, discrimination, and injustice. Social issues can impact various aspects of society, including health, education, employment, and the environment.

Social Problems in India

India, like many other countries, faces several social issues. Some of the major social problems in India include:

 • Poverty: Despite significant economic growth, India is still home to a large number of people living in poverty. Poverty is linked to various issues, such as lack of access to education, healthcare, and clean water.
 • Gender inequality: India has a long history of gender inequality, including discrimination against women and girls in education, employment, and healthcare. Violence against women, including domestic violence, rape, and sexual harassment, is also a major issue.
 • Caste discrimination: The caste system is deeply ingrained in Indian society, and discrimination based on caste still exists, despite it being illegal. Dalits, also known as “untouchables,” and other lower castes often face discrimination in education, employment, and housing.
 • Religious conflicts: India is a diverse country with multiple religions and cultures, but religious conflicts between different communities often arise, leading to violence and unrest.
 • Child labor: Despite being illegal, child labor is still prevalent in India, particularly in rural areas. Children are often forced to work in hazardous conditions and denied access to education and healthcare.
 • Environmental degradation: Rapid industrialization and urbanization have led to environmental degradation in India, including air and water pollution, deforestation, and soil erosion.

These are just a few examples of the social problems that India faces. Addressing these issues will require a multifaceted approach that includes government policies, education, and community-based initiatives.

1. Creating Awareness

The first step is to create awareness let’s suppose I taken ‘Tackling Social Issues in Our Community – A Class 10 Project’ as an title to aware my audience what we are striving to drive for.

2. Introduction

After creating Awareness, Here comes the 2nd step that is ‘Introduction’. It’s like a preface to book. So, according our supposed title as above our introduction would be like; “Social issues are pervasive problems that affect our communities and society at large. As part of our Class 10 project PDF, we have decided to explore some of the most pressing social issues in our community and find ways to address them.”

3. Explanation of Social Issues

In our project, we will be exploring issues like poverty, gender inequality, child labour, and environmental degradation. These issues have a significant impact on our community, and it’s important that we address them to create a better future for all.

4. Research Findings

Through our research, we found that poverty is one of the biggest social issues in our community. A large number of people live below the poverty line, and many struggle to meet their basic needs. We also found that gender inequality is a significant problem, with women and girls facing discrimination in education, employment, and other areas. Child labour is another issue that affects our community, with many children forced to work instead of attending school. Finally, environmental degradation is a growing concern, with pollution and deforestation causing harm to our natural resources.

5. Solutions and Recommendations

To address these social issues, we recommend community-based solutions like setting up micro-enterprises for low-income families, providing scholarships for girls, creating awareness about child rights, and promoting sustainable practices to protect the environment. We also suggest policy changes like implementing a living wage, enforcing anti-discrimination laws, and investing in renewable energy.

6. Call to Action

In the last part we give call for an action message to our audience. Like; We encourage our community to take action on these social issues. We urge you to support organizations that are working on these issues, spread awareness about them, and take action in your own communities. Together, we can create a better future for ourselves and for generations to come.

Essay on Social Issues | 500+ Words

Social issues are the challenges and concerns that impact society at large. They encompass a wide range of topics, from poverty and inequality to environmental problems and human rights. In this essay, I will argue that social issues are crucial to address because they affect the well-being and future of our communities and the world.

Inequality is a pressing social issue that deserves our attention. According to Oxfam, just 1% of the world’s population holds over 44% of the world’s wealth. This vast wealth gap means that many people struggle to meet their basic needs, such as access to food, clean water, and education. Addressing inequality is not only a matter of fairness but also essential for social stability and harmony.

Poverty is a pervasive social issue that affects millions of people worldwide. The World Bank reports that over 9% of the global population lives in extreme poverty, surviving on less than $1.90 per day. Poverty leads to a lack of access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities. It perpetuates cycles of disadvantage and inequality within communities.

Environmental Concerns

Social issues are closely tied to environmental challenges. Climate change, pollution, and deforestation threaten our planet and its inhabitants. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) warns that failing to address climate change will result in devastating consequences for future generations. Environmental issues are inherently social issues because they impact our communities, health, and quality of life.

Human Rights

Human rights violations are significant social issues that require global attention. Organizations like Amnesty International work tirelessly to address issues such as discrimination, persecution, and violence against marginalized groups. Respecting and protecting human rights are fundamental for creating a just and equitable society.

Access to quality education is a critical social issue. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) estimates that over 260 million children worldwide are out of school. Education is the gateway to opportunities and empowerment. Addressing educational disparities is essential for breaking the cycle of poverty and inequality.

Healthcare Access

Healthcare access is another vital social issue. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), millions of people lack access to basic healthcare services, resulting in preventable deaths and suffering. Ensuring equitable access to healthcare is not only a matter of compassion but also crucial for overall societal well-being.

Discrimination and Prejudice

Discrimination and prejudice based on race, gender, religion, or other factors are pervasive social issues. The United Nations aims to combat discrimination through various initiatives. Addressing these issues fosters inclusivity, equality, and social cohesion.

Migration and Refugees

Migration and the plight of refugees are significant social issues in today’s interconnected world. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) reports that millions of people have been forcibly displaced due to conflict and persecution. Providing support and protection for refugees is a humanitarian imperative.

Mental Health

Mental health is a growing social issue that affects people of all ages. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes the importance of mental health for overall well-being. Addressing mental health challenges reduces stigma and ensures that individuals receive the support they need.

Conclusion of Essay on Social Issues

In conclusion, social issues are not distant problems; they are deeply interconnected with our daily lives and the future of our world. Addressing these issues is not only a moral imperative but also essential for creating a just, equitable, and sustainable society. By working collectively to tackle inequality, poverty, environmental concerns, and other social issues, we can create a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come.

As we reflect on the significance of social issues, let us remember that change begins with awareness and action. By advocating for social justice, supporting organizations that address these issues, and engaging in constructive dialogue, we can contribute to a more compassionate and equitable world. Social issues are not insurmountable; they are challenges waiting to be addressed by individuals and communities working together for positive change.

Essay on Social Issues in India for Students in 2000 Words

On this page, you will read an Essay on Social Issues in India for Students in 2000 Words. In India and Every society has specific problems that commonly refer to social issues or social problems. It is a problem that affects a significant percentage of the population or community in a country or world.

So, let’s Start the Essay on Social Issues in India

Table of Contents

What are Social Issues?

Social issues (social problems, social evil, and social conflict) refer to any undesirable state that opposes the society or part of society. This is an unwanted social situation, which often raises problems; continue that is harmful to society.

Social problems cause many problems by factors that are beyond the control of one person and cause many conflicts for moral reasons.

The drawback of all Social Issues

There are many drawbacks to all social issues. This includes:

 • Social issues are situations that have adverse and harmful consequences for society.
 • Social issues arise when people leave from nature or society from an ideal situation.
 • Almost all social issues have some common origins.
 • Many of them are interrogating, and if one solves, the other will also resolve.
 • Social issues have a massive lousy impact on society and can affect any part of it.
 • Social issues need a common approach to the solution.
 • Almost everywhere, societies in this world have social issues.
 • India is struggling with many social issues such as the caste system, child labor, illiteracy, gender inequality, superstition, religious conflicts, and more. It is a critical time for society to free itself from these undesirable social evils.

Major Social Issues in India

The main social issues in India are briefly discussed below in the following order-

 • Caste system
 • Child labor
 • Child Marriage
 • Gender Inequality
 • Domestic Violence against Women
 • Sexual Violence and Harassment to Women
 • Child Sex Abuse
 • Communalism
 • Dowry system
 • Superstition
 • Religious Conflicts
 • Untouchability
 • Child Trafficking
 • Over – Population

1. The caste system

The caste system is a system for determining the class or assigning a status to people from birth. The causes, effects, and solutions of the caste system in India are described below:

The main reason for creating the caste system in India is the caste assignment based on professional specialization. Four classes of the caste system: Four classes include:

 • Brahmins – priesthood class.
 • Kshatriyas – a class of warriors and rulers.
 • Vaishyas – a commercial class.
 • Sudras – the lowest of four traditional classes involved in household members and workers, etc.

The caste system has many disadvantages, such as:

 • Promotes inequality
 • Undemocratic by nature
 • False differentiation in superiority and inferiority
 • It increases the difference between people from the upper and lower caste.
 • People fall victim to the caste.

Education will help people realize the disadvantages of the caste system. There is a need for broad social change for equality. There should include special classes in schools that give children value and moral education. Thanks to better learning and economic progress, people belonging to different castes mix and cooperate.

Poverty means a situation in which it does not fulfill the basic needs of people. This is a vicious circle and means no money or material goods.

The significant causes of poverty are:

When resources and opportunities are limited, and the population is high, there is an unemployment situation that ultimately leads to poverty.

Poor people will always have to rely on others to survive. Poor food quality can lead to poor nutrition. Poor people have less freedom to choose their profession. Poverty can affect the morality and self-esteem of people living in extreme difficulties. It also causes stress, which ultimately affects interpersonal relationships.

Low living standards prevail among poor people. When many people live in poverty, the opportunities for developing the country’s economy become limited. Increasing employment opportunities can control debt.

The government should take further steps towards charity, trust, and some transparency when spending money in these social institutions. The education system should reform and initiatives to attract more children to attain the school.

3. Child labor

Child labor is a system of involving children in any business activity. Child labor means involving underage children. The main reasons for child labor in India are:

 • Unemployment
 • Illiteracy and
 • A low standard of living

If the above problems resolve by Indian society, then the country will have fewer social issues. When the family is poor, they often have no choice but to send their children to work. Because of parents’ unemployment, children do not receive the proper education and forces to engage in child labor.

Adverse effects of child labor are:

Child labor is a cruel practice. It hinders personal development, destroys their childhood. Child labor deprives the opportunity to play, make friends, dreams, relax, and enjoy all critical aspects of a healthy, desirable childhood. Children are the upcoming pillars of the country and engaging them in child labor will weaken these pillars.

The primary solution to the problem of child labor is:

Provide education and knowledge to children. If the parent’s income increases, children get an education. The government will have to take further steps to enforce labor law properly. As the employment opportunity of adults will increase, it reduces child labor.

Child labor is an unfortunate and disturbing phenomenon that unfortunately still needs to be eliminated in many parts of the world, including India.

4. Illiteracy

Illiteracy describes the inability to read and/or write. Because of the problem of unemployment and poverty, children have no chance of proper education. Many people remain illiterate because of physical or mental disabilities. Other social evils like the caste system and gender inequalities also cause illiteracy. One of the leading causes of crime is illiteracy.

Most illiterate people are unaware of the advantages of maintaining cleanliness and hygiene . Illiterates have difficulty in getting a good job and earning. Overpopulation is a massive increase in the number of people and is causing by some factors.

The only and best way to eliminate illiteracy from society is education. The government should take steps to promote free education for the backward class of society in government schools. The government is also looking at the fact that people receive fair pay for their work.

5. The dowry system

Dowry is one of the worst practices widespread in Indian society. There is a tradition of asking for a dowry at the time of marriage and greed among the groom’s family for quick and easy money. People are also asking for a dowry to keep up status.

The main problems of the dowry system in society are:

The bride’s family, which usually belongs to the middle and low classes, face its bitter side. Parents often take out a loan for their daughter’s marriage. Most times, observing the lousy situation of their parents, the bride becomes mentally affected. Sometimes psychological torture caused by dowry leads to suicidal tendencies.

6. Religious conflicts:

Religious conflicts are among the most severe social issues today.

The difference in beliefs: people belonging to different religions have different views.Lack of education: People who want to spread violence in the name of religion can easily mislead illiterate people. Sometimes, conflicts between communities lead to violence and crime.

The solution to religious violence lies only in the hands of Societies.

7. Children’s marriage

Child marriage in India has been practiced for centuries, and children are married before their physical and mental maturity. Regardless of its roots, child marriage is a gross violation of human rights, leaving physical, psychological, and emotional scars for life.

Second, economically weak and large families encourage this practice because it helps to send girls early. While the boy’s marriage provides additional help in household and business operations.

Awareness-raising: all stakeholders should be alert and convinced of the adverse effects of child marriage. Checking loopholes in law: shortcomings need to be corrected to strengthen the law.

8. Gender Inequality

The problem of gender inequality is historical. The sociological reality behind this structure is the transition from a matriarchal society, which is more egalitarian, to a patriarchal society.

Although economic and technological progress has changed the social structure, the problem of gender inequality still exists, even in modern, urbanized societies.

The problem of the education system

In all areas of men-dominated society, including the structure of the state, the education system, the health care system, security forces, and the judiciary, there is a male culture and a sense of power.

In the education system, equal opportunities must be guaranteed for all children, regardless of gender, and the government should ensure this practice is implemented.

The program should be non-discriminatory and textbooks, especially in terms of language, should be prepared under the principles of gender equality.

9. Domestic violence against women

This form of domestic violence is the most common. The most common causes of harassment and torture of women are dissatisfaction with the dowry and abusing women for more, arguing with a partner, refusing sex with him, neglecting children, leaving home without telling the partner, improper cooking or on time, engaging in new matters, not caring for my parents-in-law, etc.

Many other factors in urban areas lead to differences at the beginning and then are domestic violence. Violence against young widows is also increasing in India.

Other forms of physical abuse of women also include beating, grabbing, burdening them with bullying, public humiliation, and neglecting health problems.

10. Starvation

Although the concept of food security was coined 17 years ago, humanity has been fighting hunger and thrust since ancient times. A new global partnership to reduce extreme poverty and set several time-bound targets with a deadline of 2015, known as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), is expected to give new impetus to the cause of food security.

The reasons for this disturbing phenomenon are different in each case. The physical availability of food at both macro and micro levels can be negatively affected due to the lack of local production, natural and human-made disasters, seasonal changes, water scarcity, poor infrastructure, insufficient storage capacity, stockpiling, and even legal problems.

However, factors that impede food absorption include a lack of clean drinking water, inadequate health, hygiene and sanitation, a low level of literacy and a fiscal cushion for governments for public sector development programs that would help ensure essential service delivery.

11. Terrorism

Terrorism not only kills the innocent but it also undermines democratic governance, even in mature democracies such as the United States and much of Europe, India, and other parts of the world.

To eliminate the threat that terrorism poses to democracy , the United States and its allies should continue to emphasize sharing intelligence and make such efforts.

12. Sexual harassment and the violation of women’s rights

Violence against women and girls is a severe violation of human rights. Decades of mobilization of civil society and women’s movements have put the end of gender-based violence high on the list of national and international priorities.

We should work with governments to develop particular national action plans to prevent and counter-violence against women, strengthening coordination between the actors required for lasting and meaningful operation.

13. Sexual exploitation of children

In recent years, it reflects the reality of how child pornography is produced. Sexual exploitation of children is a severe problem in our society, and it happens more often than people realize it.

Based on reports submitted to Cybertip, the Studies show that most criminals do not have criminal records. The sexual exploitation of children covers a wide range of behaviors and situations.

14. Untouchability

This is a practice in which people from the lower caste are kept far away, deprived of social equality and suffering from touch disabilities. These are considered contaminating or polluting the people of the higher castes.

The word “untouchable” refers to a despised and degraded portion of the Hindu population. Untouchables occupy the lowest place in society and have been subjecting to various types of social, cultural, and other restrictions. Eve Govt has been worked a lot on this issue, but few are still happening in rural areas.

15. Child trafficking

Child trafficking is a crime that uses girls and boys for many purposes, including forced labor and sex. It is associated with criminal activity and corruption. Further, smuggling and exploitation are posing an increasing risk to children worldwide.

When human trafficking occurs, children are often victims of trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation or for work, such as domestic service, factory work, agricultural work, mining, or forced to fight conflicts.

Essay on “Social Problems of India” Complete Essay for Class 10, Class 12 and Graduation and other classes.

Essay no. 01.

Social Problems of India

The woman is the builder and molder of the nation’s destiny. Though delicate and soft as a lily she has a heart far stronger and bolder than man-she is the supreme inspiration for man’s onward march, and embodiment of love, pity and compassion” (Tagore). Gandhiji echoed the same feelings when he said, “Woman is the incarnation of Ahimsa”, which to him meant infinite capacity for suffering. This is the Eastern view about women. But men have indulged in fantastic views about women. Shakespeare’s Hamlet identified women with all types of weaknesses, “Frailty the name is a woman”. Brutality is justified by the rhyme-

A dog, a wife and a walnut tree The more you beat them The better they be.

Shaw considers women a vessel of Life Force, “Sexually woman is Nature’s Contrivance for perpetuating its highest achievement”. The Hindu view has nothing in common with the European view of women.

During the Epic period, women did not suffer from disabilities. Monogamy was allowed and marriage was a sacred obligation. According to Manu, “The only Vedic sacrament for them (women) is marriage”. Dharmasastra also advocated the dependence of women upon men. Woman in Vedic India was considered to be goddess-like the Greek goddess Athena. They enjoyed liberty till the advent of Muslim rule. Havelock Ellis, the well-known student of sex, has beautifully summed up the Indian view of marriage, “Sexual life has been sanctified and divinized to a greater extent than in any other part of the world”. Marriage to us is not a convention but a “device for the expression and development of love”. Thus is sexual relations Indians rose above the apes and dogs. According to Rig Veda married woman is the companion of her husband. Marriage provides the opportunity to enable the community of thought and feeling between the two. Wife and husband lived together for developing love which is not merely flame meeting flame but spirit calling to spirit. Marriage was not an end in itself but the means of gaining self-fulfillment. Polygamy and polyandry were forbidden. Sastras did allow the husband to marry a second time but with the consent of the wife. No religious ceremony was complete without the presence of a wife. In Ramayan, it is pointed out that Rama performed ceremonies with an image of his wife by his side. Even the position of widows in ancient India was not degrading. According to S. Radhakrishnan “Regarding the practice of Sati or self-immolation, there is no direct reference to it in Vedic literature”. Garhya Sutra, which describes ceremonies of domestic life in detail, is silent about it. But remarriage of widows was not recommended: in Smrti books, there is opposition to the remarriage of widows.

During the Muslim rule, women were confined to homes. The woman became the target of the Muslim king’s lust. Her position deteriorated and during British rule, women became backward. The rulers preached women’s inferiority because they wanted that the generations should remain backward.

With the dawn of freedom, a serious attempt has been made to emancipate women. “Hindu Code Bill” entitled women to share the property of their parents and the right to get judicial separation. The Dowry system is legally banned. Prostitution has been banned in many of the States of India. Widow marriage is encouraged. Women are to be given equal wages for equal work.

Women get equal opportunity of employment. According to the 1971 Census, out of 180 million workers, 149 million were males and 31 million females. Women occupy the topmost position in some fields in India. But unfortunately, 81.7% of Indian women are still illiterate. With regard to the relation of man and woman, we are imitating the west. Marriage is no longer considered to be as sacred as it was. Still, there is a tendency to treat the woman as an object of satisfying lust. We consider women somewhat inferior to men. India’s President, Mr. Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed in his message for the IWY said, “The women of India played a silent, self-effacing role to sustain Indian civilization down the ages. For their greater participation in national life, it is necessary that they should occupy the position at the decision-making and planning levels.”

In India, a committee for IWY is constituted with representatives of 33 organizations. The Committee has recommended that giving and taking dowry should be a cognizable offense, provide free legal aid to women in distress, and set up one home for women in each State capital. The Committee wanted “equal pay for equal work” and more facilities for vocational training of women. The Committee felt that woman at home is still exploited; “Housewives cannot just curse and bemoan their fate. They should be inspired to act untidily and vigorously against the dishonest ways of anti-social elements”. Conditions of life have changed and the emancipated woman is breaking the trammels that bound her in traditional slavery. She is economically independent, politically equal, and socially free. She is no more confined to home, she is no more intellectual slave of man. So the relation of man and woman needs re-definition and re-adjustment. The new basis of relationship, apart from economic and sex are to be discovered. Man and woman must realize their complementariness and base their relationship on equality and mutual respect. Woman wants more freedom, more facilities, and more rights. Domestic life has its drudgery and its own taboos. This has created many sociological problems. It needs a new family pattern to harmonize the claims of motherhood with the claim of freedom and greater social mobility.

Essay No. 02

Social problems in India center on the connected issues of poverty and inequality. Particularly in rural areas lower castes and marginal social groups, such as tribal people and Muslims, are generally poor. India’s poor face disease, scarce educational opportunities, and often physical abuse by those who control their livelihood. It is difficult or impossible for the poor to escape and enter the modernizing sector of society, where discrimination on the basis of caste or community is less prevalent. In all classes and in urban as well as rural areas, discrimination and at times violence against women is almost taken for granted.

Poverty has been reduced in India since independence, although in 1994, 35.04 percent of the population still lived below the poverty line. The industrialization has created jobs in the cities, and rural workers have been able to diversify their sources of income. Urban workers at entry-level, however, are usually forced to live in appalling conditions in slums.

Modern water supply and sanitation arrangements are rare in the poor areas of most towns and cities and are lacking entirely in most villages. As a result, many Indians suffer and even die from diarrhea, malaria, typhoid, and cholera. India has succeeded in eradicating smallpox and has brought down the overall death rate, in significant part by investing in a health care system that includes hospitals, clinics, and drug manufacture and distribution. By the mid-1990s acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) emerged as a serious problem. To combat the disease, the Indian government, with help from volunteer groups, established a vigorous AIDS awareness program.

Part of the problem of disease and poverty in villages is that poor people cannot afford the money end time it takes to provide treatment for their children, many of whom are already weakened by an inadequate diet. Girls of all classes are given less medical care than their brothers and so die in greater numbers. Many parents prefer sons, who remain with them and provide security for them in old age. Because daughters often require a dowry at marriage and are unlikely to earn an income that could raise a family’s economic position, they are seen as a liability. By the mid-1990s, the spread of family-planning facilities and the increase in confidence that children would survive to adulthood helped reduce the preferred family size to just three children: two sons and a daughter. Second and third-born daughters, especially in families without sons, continue to die at rates greater than average.

Discrimination against women does not end with childhood, nor is it confined to the countryside. Although India has had a woman as prime minister, the percentage of women serving in political or administrative office still remains very low. Some women are major leaders of grassroots movements, and women play an active role in India’s vigorous press. Yet women are rare in senior business positions and in the legal and medical professions. Women’s movements to combat violence against women have had considerable success in raising awareness of the issue and stimulating government action.

Discrimination against lower caste members, including the Harijans or former Untouchables, is still a problem in India. As result violence between castes sometimes breaks out. Since independence, many lower caste groups have mobilized politically

And have achieved positions of power or leverage in several states. More than 50 percent of the positions in the national civil service were reserved for members of lower castes by the mid-1990s. Efforts w re reserved organize the landless and the homeless, however, have not enjoyed the same success. In rural areas, men of lower caste traditionally serve those of higher caste. This situation has aggravated caste conflict and has helped to keep the poor politically and socially weak.

Relations between Hindus and Muslims have also been problematic. After the partition of British India into India and Pakistan, Muslims of the northern provinces who stayed in India—where they were a minority—became vulnerable. Riots between Hindus and Muslims have occurred on occasion since the mid-1960s. Muslims in rural areas remain largely untouched by the conflict. Riots tend not to occur in areas where there are structures of mutual social or economic advantage—for example, in towns with a large industry owned by Hindus and employing Muslims. Also, at the personal level, there are many examples of friendships and mutual respect. Muslim leaders have served as presidents of India, and Muslims have held positions of great prominence in all fields, including the military.

List of Social Issues and Topics for Students

social issues list

Think of the world as a place with social ties, which faces constant social, political, ethical, economic, environmental problems. This blog article will cover some common examples of social issues that can inspire you to choose the best topic for your research paper, essay, or term paper.

Whether you are in high school, college, or university, chances are that you will write a social issues paper. If you are a social work student, you are highly likely to be assigned a social issue essay.

The trick is to begin from a social issue or problem, explore widely what the media, news, and people are saying about a given issue, then apply concepts from class to narrow down to a topic.

These social issues are also subjects of policy briefs. Think of global problems, then start narrowing them down to continental, regional, national, and finally within the state or community. Most importantly, these issues should be represented in national, local, and international news. Your instructor most likely gave samples too, so peruse through your notes for ideas.

If you need some inspiration, let's define social issues, then explore a list of different issues before delving into topic ideas.

What is a Social Issue?

A social issue refers to a problem that affects a large population of people in society. It is a combination of different problems in present-day society, primarily in which people strive to find solutions.

They can also be defined as social conditions that disrupt normalcy in society.

Social problems result from many contributing factors that are beyond the control of an individual or individuals. If left unresolved, social issues birth conflicts based on a different point of view regarding what is morally right and what is incorrect decision either at the personal or group level.

Specific social issues are rampant in given countries, while others can be generic. For instance, the United States is known for police brutality, racism, hate crimes, obesity, overcrowded prisons, junk foods, hunger, homelessness, opioid pandemic, and wealth inequality.

For an issue to be considered a social issue or problem:

 • It has to be one that can be solved or averted through joint action of community or society members
 • Has to be recognized by the public as a problem
 • Must affect a large segment of the population that recognizes it as a valid concern
 • Has to be against the generally accepted values in society

For great space heating, try the best mr. heater products.

Alvina Wang/BestReviews

What are the best Mr. Heater products?

Mr. Heater has been making consumer, commercial and construction-site heating products since 1984. The company is known for using innovative technology to design and build high-quality products, and its propane space heaters have become the industry standard for dependability.

What are space heaters?

Space heaters are designed to heat small areas indoors and out, not entire rooms. The smallest are made to heat spaces smaller than 100 square feet and the largest provide warmth for spaces up to 5,000 square feet. Most are portable and most sit on the floor.

Types of space heaters

 • Fan-forced heaters push air over a heating element. Because they heat rooms quickly and take up little space, they are ideal for places where short bursts of heat are needed.
 • Infrared heaters: Infrared heaters emit electromagnetic waves. These waves warm human bodies as well as objects such as walls, floors and furniture, just as the sun’s rays heat the Earth. There is no fan and the heat lasts long after the heater has been turned off.
 • Radiant heaters: These are made for warming people and small rooms. They are a flameless and nearly silent version of sitting next to the warmth of a fireplace — your body gets heated on one side only, without the whole room having to be warm.
 • Oil-filled heaters: This looks like an old-time steam radiator on wheels, with an electric cord attached. The oil inside gets heated and circulated through coiled tubes, warming the air around them. They have no fans and the heat lasts long after it’s been turned off. They’re efficient but heavier than other types, and only work well in smaller rooms.

There are four basic ways to fuel portable heaters. Mr. Heater makes products that use all of them, but focuses on propane-powered heaters because it’s built its reputation on efficient, affordable ones.

 • Propane: Propane is a clean-burning gas used to power indoor and outdoor heaters. The fuel comes in a pressurized container and an electric spark is used to light the gas, generating heat as it burns. Small propane tanks are easy to handle but large ones are heavier, bulkier and harder to deal with.
 • Kerosene: These run on the same fuel as most camping lanterns. They’re cheaper but have a smell some find unpleasant and are not suited for indoor use. Kerosene is usually bought at gas stations, home supply stores and campgrounds where you bring your own container and fill it yourself.
 • Diesel: Like kerosene and furnace oil, diesel fuel is less refined than gasoline. Heaters using these fuels are good for large outdoor areas such as farms and ranches that keep their own tanks of fuel oils. Generally speaking, they’re smokier and smellier.
 • Electricity: Electric heaters are among the cleanest, most energy-efficient ways to heat indoor spaces but are impractical for outdoor use. As a rule, they cost more to operate than propane heaters.

How powerful a heater do I need?

Multiply the length of your room by the width to get the square footage. Now multiply that number by two if your room is well-insulated, three if your insulation is average and four if it’s poor. Round up that result to the nearest thousand and you have the number of Btu you should look for to get the warmth you need.

What’s a BTU?

A British thermal unit is a measurement of thermal energy. The formula used to calculate Btu lets people compare machines that use different energy sources on an equal basis. The official definition is that 1 BTU is the amount of energy needed to heat or cool 1 pound of water by 1 degree at sea level. BTU numbers are seen on packaging and in descriptions of room heaters, water heaters, air conditioners and the like. Generally speaking, the larger the area you want to heat, the more Btu you need.

Top Mr. Heater products

Mr. Heater Little Buddy 3,800 BTU Indoor-Safe Propane Heater

If you’ve got a space that’s 100 square feet or smaller, this is a handy, ultra-portable appliance. The heat is odorless and continuous. Using a standard 1-pound disposable propane cylinder, it has a run time of 5-6 hours.

Mr. Heater Hunting Buddy 6,000-12,000 BTU Portable Propane Space Heater

This portable heater uses a standard 1-pound propane cylinder and can be connected with a hose to a 20-pound cylinder for longer run times. It makes no claims to square footage because it’s built to be used outdoors. It turns off automatically when it detects low oxygen levels or if tipped over.

Mr. Heater 20,000 Btu Vent-Free Radiant Natural Gas Heater

This 25-pound heater with five heat levels and an automatic shut-off is made to heat spaces from 500-700 square feet. You attach the legs for use on the floor or use the included hardware to mount it on the wall.

Mr. Heater 75,000-125,000 BTU Forced Air Propane Heater

This little 3-pound machine heats up 3,000 square feet with burner technology that’s 50% quieter than a standard propane heater. It’s got a temperature-limit switch and an ergonomically designed handle.

Mr. Heater 175,000 BTU Forced-Air Diesel or Kerosene Heater

This nearly 4-foot-long, 68-pound corded electric unit sits on a steel cart that rides on oversized pneumatic tires. The low-lift handles make it easy for two people to lift it in and out of your work vehicle. It heats a 4,000-square-foot area with a 14-gallon fuel tank for up to 10 hours.

Mr. Heater 75,000-200,000 BTU Propane Convection Heater

This tower unit heats an area of 5,000 square feet and runs for nearly 30 hours on a 100-pound propane tank. It comes fully assembled with the regulator and 10-foot hose already attached. The pilot light shuts off if the unit is tipped over.

Why Data Breaches Spiked in 2023

 • Stuart Madnick

social issues essay class 10

And what companies can do to better secure users’ personal information.

In spite of recent efforts to beef up cybersecurity, data breaches — in which hackers steal personal data — continue to increase year-on-year: there was a 20% increase in data breaches from 2022 to 2023. There are three primary reasons behind this increased theft of personal data: (1) cloud misconfiguration, (2) new types of ransomware attacks, and (3) increased exploitation of vendor systems. Fortunately, there are ways to reduce the impact of each of these factors.

For many years, organizations have struggled to protect themselves from cyberattacks: companies, universities, and government agencies have expended enormous amounts of resources to secure themselves. But in spite of those efforts, data breaches — in which hackers steal personal data — continue to increase year-on-year: there was a 20% increase in data breaches from 2022 to 2023 . Some of the trends around this uptick are disturbing. For example, globally, there were twice the number of victims in 2023 compared to 2022, and in the Middle East, ransomware gang activity increased by 77% in that same timeframe.
