500 Words Essay On Teachers' Day

The word "teacher" in India refers to more than just a profession. With a teacher, there is an intense emotion. If we look at ancient India, we can see how essential gurus (teachers) were in influencing the views of their followers.

Role Of Teacher In Life

Make learning enjoyable: Along with educating, their primary responsibility is to get kids ready for a better future. Instead of presenting concepts in in-depth, technical lectures, they make their classes engaging and enjoyable.

Connecting to actual events: The children's closest friends are good teachers. By relating various subjects to actual events, they facilitate learning. Using real-world examples, they show how even the most complex subjects can be understood and how doing so would benefit the future.

Motivate Learners: Teachers help pupils develop since they frequently look to them for approval. Compliments like "come on," "good job," "well done," and "keep it up" go a long way in motivating children. These appropriate remarks have great value in their lives. They always inspire us to attain our greatest accomplishments in addition to teaching us. They support us, cheer us on, and boost our confidence whenever we fail so that we may keep trying until we achieve. They constantly show us the ideal course for our lives. They consistently go above and beyond to assist pupils.

Alter the course of your life: It is true what is claimed that "excellent instructors hold the future growth of a nation in their hands". The quality of the education we receive from our teachers determines who we become in life. Children's minds are given data and information to examine the scenario. The most critical skill we acquire from teachers is the ability to analyse what is essential. They fashion an exquisite statue out of an unformed stone. They increase our understanding and promote the proper transfer of knowledge from one generation to the next.

Monitor Progress & Set Performance Objectives: The best teachers always succeed in pointing out to their students how far they have come since the beginning. Establishing short-term goals, encouraging improvement, and maintaining self-evaluation keeps track of the kids' every move and is a confidence builder. Teachers support students by providing them with clear objectives that are doable. For pupils, they design challenging assignments that aid them in resolving problematic situations in life.

Sujana ma'am taught me English for the first time. She is very knowledgeable and kind and is also my favourite teacher. I played the role of Sujana ma'am in the annual tradition of students dressing up as their favourite teachers for the day. I hold all teachers in the highest regard.

Essay on Teachers Day

Teachers’ Day in the United States is not just a day; it is a celebration of the heart, soul, and essence of education. It is a day dedicated to acknowledging the pivotal role teachers play in shaping the futures of their students and, by extension, the future of the nation. Celebrated on the first Tuesday of the first full week of May, National Teacher Appreciation Day, as part of Teacher Appreciation Week, offers a moment for students, parents, and the community to express gratitude and recognize the dedication, hard work, and impact of teachers.

Historical Context and Significance

The origin of Teachers’ Day in the United States dates back to 1953 when Eleanor Roosevelt persuaded the 81st Congress to proclaim a National Teacher Day. This advocacy underscored the importance of recognizing the valuable contributions teachers make to society. Over the years, the celebration has evolved, and today, it is observed for an entire week, known as Teacher Appreciation Week. This expansion signifies a growing acknowledgment of the extensive contributions teachers make beyond the classroom.

The Role of Teachers in Education

Teachers are the cornerstone of education. They are not just educators; they are mentors, guides, and sometimes even friends who inspire curiosity, drive ambition, and instill a love for learning. They play a multifaceted role in shaping the intellectual and ethical foundations of their students. Through their dedication, teachers nurture the talents of the youth, preparing them to face the challenges of the future and to contribute positively to society.

Shaping Lives and Futures

Teachers influence lives not just academically but also by teaching essential life skills such as critical thinking, empathy, and resilience. They recognize the unique strengths and weaknesses of each student, fostering an environment where every child can thrive. The impact of a teacher can echo throughout a student’s life, influencing their career choices, values, and perspectives.

Adapting to Change

The role of teachers has evolved significantly, especially with the integration of technology in education. Teachers today are not just sources of knowledge but facilitators of learning in a digital age. They adapt to new teaching methods and technologies to provide students with the best possible education, preparing them for a world that is constantly changing.

Building a Strong Community

Teachers also play a critical role in building strong, educated communities. They act as role models, demonstrating the values of hard work, respect, and integrity. By fostering a sense of community within the classroom, they teach students the importance of cooperation, mutual respect, and understanding, laying the foundation for a cohesive society.

Challenges Faced by Teachers

Despite their critical role, teachers often face numerous challenges. These include limited resources, overcrowded classrooms, and the need to adapt to diverse learning needs and backgrounds. The increasing demands for accountability and high-stakes testing add to the pressure, requiring teachers to continually update their skills and methodologies.

Furthermore, the shift to remote learning during the pandemic highlighted the flexibility and resilience of teachers. They adapted to new technologies and teaching methods, ensuring that education continued despite unprecedented challenges. This period underscored the essential role of teachers in maintaining continuity in education and supporting the well-being of their students.

Recognizing and Celebrating Teachers

Teachers’ Day provides an opportunity to express appreciation for the tireless efforts of educators. Schools and communities celebrate this day in various ways, from hosting special events and ceremonies to presenting gifts and tokens of appreciation. However, recognition should extend beyond a single day. Supporting teachers through adequate funding, professional development opportunities, and creating a supportive work environment is crucial.

Teacher-Student Relationship

The relationship between teachers and students is at the heart of education, and it deserves special attention on Teachers’ Day:

a. Trust and Respect: – A strong teacher-student relationship is built on trust and mutual respect, creating a safe and supportive learning environment.

b. Effective Communication: – Effective communication between teachers and students is essential for learning and personal development. It fosters open dialogue, active listening, and feedback.

c. Empowerment and Encouragement: – Teachers empower students to take ownership of their learning journey and encourage them to overcome challenges and setbacks.

d. Individualized Support: – Understanding the unique needs and strengths of each student allows teachers to provide personalized support and guidance.

e. Mentorship and Role Modeling: – Teachers often serve as role models, inspiring students to develop strong character, values, and a lifelong love of learning.

In conclusion, Teachers’ Day in the United States is a testament to the invaluable contributions of teachers to society. It is a day to reflect on the profound impact educators have on shaping the minds and futures of their students. Teachers nurture, inspire, and guide, preparing the next generation to lead and innovate. As we celebrate Teachers’ Day, let us remember that the best way to honor teachers is by supporting them in their mission to educate, not just on this special day but throughout the year. Recognizing the challenges they face and providing the necessary support ensures that teachers can continue to perform their vital role in society. In honoring our teachers, we celebrate the very essence of education and its power to transform lives and build a better future.

What is Presidents Day and how is it celebrated? What to know about the federal holiday

Many will have a day off on monday in honor of presidents day. consumers may take advantage of retail sales that proliferate on the federal holiday, but here's what to know about the history of it..

teacher essay day

Presidents Day is fast approaching, which may signal to many a relaxing three-day weekend and plenty of holiday sales and bargains .

But next to Independence Day, there may not exist another American holiday that is quite so patriotic.

While Presidents Day has come to be a commemoration of all the nation's 46 chief executives, both past and present, it wasn't always so broad . When it first came into existence – long before it was even federally recognized – the holiday was meant to celebrate just one man: George Washington.

How has the day grown from a simple celebration of the birthday of the first president of the United States? And why are we seeing all these ads for car and furniture sales on TV?

Here's what to know about Presidents Day and how it came to be:

When is Presidents Day 2024?

This year, Presidents Day is on Monday, Feb. 19.

The holiday is celebrated on the third Monday of every February because of a bill signed into law in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson. Taking effect three years later, the Uniform Holiday Bill mandated that three holidays – Memorial Day, Presidents Day and Veterans Day – occur on Mondays to prevent midweek shutdowns and add long weekends to the federal calendar, according to Britannica .

Other holidays, including Labor Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day , were also established to be celebrated on Mondays when they were first observed.

However, Veterans Day was returned to Nov. 11 in 1978 and continues to be commemorated on that day.

What does Presidents Day commemorate?

Presidents Day was initially established in 1879 to celebrate the birthday of the nation's first president, George Washington. In fact, the holiday was simply called Washington's Birthday, which is still how the federal government refers to it, the Department of State explains .

Following the death of the venerated American Revolution leader in 1799, Feb. 22, widely believed to be Washington's date of birth , became a perennial day of remembrance, according to History.com .

The day remained an unofficial observance for much of the 1800s until Sen. Stephen Wallace Dorsey of Arkansas proposed that it become a federal holiday. In 1879, President Rutherford B. Hayes signed it into law, according to History.com.

While initially being recognized only in Washington D.C., Washington's Birthday became a nationwide holiday in 1885. The first to celebrate the life of an individual American, Washington's Birthday was at the time one of only five federally-recognized holidays – the others being Christmas, New Year's, Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July.

However, most Americans today likely don't view the federal holiday as a commemoration of just one specific president. Presidents Day has since come to represent a day to recognize and celebrate all of the United States' commanders-in-chief, according to the U.S. Department of State .

When the Uniform Holiday Bill took effect in 1971, a provision was included to combine the celebration of Washington’s birthday with Abraham Lincoln's on Feb. 12, according to History.com. Because the new annual date always fell between Washington's and Lincoln's birthdays, Americans believed the day was intended to honor both presidents.

Interestingly, advertisers may have played a part in the shift to "Presidents Day."

Many businesses jumped at the opportunity to use the three-day weekend as a means to draw customers with Presidents Day sales and bargain at stores across the country, according to History.com.

How is the holiday celebrated?

Because Presidents Day is a federal holiday , most federal workers will have the day off .

Part of the reason Johnson made the day a uniform holiday was so Americans had a long weekend "to travel farther and see more of this beautiful land of ours," he wrote. As such, places like the Washington Monument in D.C. and Mount Rushmore in South Dakota – which bears the likenesses of Presidents Washington, Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt – are bound to attract plenty of tourists.

Similar to Independence Day, the holiday is also viewed as a patriotic celebration . As opposed to July, February might not be the best time for backyard barbecues and fireworks, but reenactments, parades and other ceremonies are sure to take place in cities across the U.S.

Presidential places abound across the U.S.

Opinions on current and recent presidents may leave Americans divided, but we apparently love our leaders of old enough to name a lot of places after them.

In 2023, the U.S. Census Bureau pulled information from its databases showcasing presidential geographic facts about the nation's cities and states.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the census data shows that as of 2020 , the U.S. is home to plenty of cities, counties and towns bearing presidential names. Specifically:

  • 94 places are named "Washington."
  • 72 places are named "Lincoln."
  • 67 places are named for Andrew Jackson, a controversial figure who owned slaves and forced thousands of Native Americans to march along the infamous Trail of Tears.

I consider myself a good citizen, because my family taught me from my childhood to preserve public property. When I used to go with my family to the public garden, my mother used to ask us not to pick roses and not climb trees, and to keep the garden clean by throwing garbage in the designated bin.

Then when I joined school, my mother asked me to keep my school clean, just as I keep my house clean. She also asked me to respect the school’s rules in terms of appointments, uniform, and dealing with other students, in addition to respecting teachers and all school staff.

My mother also asked me to work hard in my studies, and she told me that you study in order to benefit your country, and this goal you must remember throughout the years of your studies.

Indeed, I carried out my mother’s directives until I became a good citizen, and I am appreciated and respected by everyone.

Teacher’s Day Essay for Students in English

The teacher’s day is to honor and appreciate teachers for their dedication and hard work. Because teachers play a great role in everyone’s life. From teaching science and languages to giving life-long lessons, teachers help us build ourselves in every field of life. Therefore, they deserve to be honored. So, we should at least dedicate a day to thank them for everything that they do for us. With that being said, in the article below, we have written a teacher’s day essay and we have listed some best teacher’s day quotes for you to add icing on top of the cake.

Teacher’s Day

Teacher’s day is a very special occasion for students, teachers, and everyone in general. Every year students celebrate teacher’s day on the 5th of September to honor teachers and pay tribute to their dedication and hard work. In India, 5th September is celebrated as teacher’s day as a reminder of one of the greatest teachers, in Indian history, Dr. Servepalli Radhakrishnan’s birth. Dr. Radhakrishnan was also the second president of India besides being a great mentor. On this special occasion, students present their best wishes and respect to their teachers. They also give cards, flowers, gifts, and write a teacher’s day essay for their favorite teacher to express their love. Among all, writing a special teacher’s day essay for their favorite teacher is most appreciable.

Moreover, on this day, students organize teacher’s day events that include inspirational acts, singing competitions, speeches, and debates to make their teachers feel proud and honored. Students also dress up as teachers, on this special day, and perform.

It is indeed true that there is no other profession as honorable as the profession of teaching. And it is the most respectable profession in the world. September 5 was dedicated to the teaching profession by celebrating this day as Teachers’ Day across India. It is celebrated annually to commemorate the birthday of one of the greatest teachers in Indian history and former President of India, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, as well as to honor teachers. India’s former president’s birthday was dedicated to highlighting the nobility of the teaching profession and the contributions of our teachers to society and the development of the country.

In the life of a student, a teacher reserves a place above the parents. Parents give birth to and care for their children while teachers create their future. Only teachers make children successful in their lives. A good teacher can lead children to limitless heights of success in life. Besides, teaching is a prophetic profession. Because teachers disperse knowledge which is the most precious thing ever found. Knowledge shows us the right path and enables us to distinguish right from wrong. Moreover, teachers are a source of inspiration and guidance for students. It is rightly said that “The mediocre master tells, the good master explains, the superior master demonstrates and the great master inspires”. Masters inspire students with diligence, hard work, and dedication.

Moreover, there is no doubt that teachers are like real potters who not only shape our lives but also allow us to light ourselves like a lamp forever after dispelling darkness from all over the world. So that our nation can be illuminated with many luminous lamps. Therefore, we pay homage and respect to all teachers in the country on this honorable day. However, we cannot give our teachers anything in return for their excellent work; we must always respect them and be grateful for their hard work and dedication. Besides, we must make a commitment to respect and wholeheartedly honor our teachers in our daily lives. Because without a good teacher we are all incomplete in this world.

In conclusion, we need to realize the need and importance of teachers in our lives and celebrate Teachers’ Day every year to honor them for their great work. Teachers are more than our parents who shape our minds for success in every field of life. Besides, they only become happy and successful in life if their dedicated students go ahead and spread the name of teachers all over the world through our activities and by reflecting back on all the lessons that we learned from our teachers. Thus, we should follow all the good lessons in our life taught by our teachers.

There Is Much More at Stake in Trump’s Manhattan Case Than Just Hush Money

A photo of Alvin Bragg entering a room.

By Norman Eisen ,  Joshua Kolb and Barbara McQuade

Mr. Eisen was special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee for the first impeachment and trial of Donald Trump. Mr. Kolb is an attorney who served as a law clerk on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Ms. McQuade is a professor from practice at the University of Michigan Law School and a former U.S. attorney.

With Justice Juan Merchan’s proclamation last week that jury selection in the Manhattan prosecution of Donald Trump will begin on March 25, it is time for a reappraisal of the case. The charges brought by Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan district attorney, have been overshadowed by the three other criminal prosecutions of Mr. Trump, but the 34 felony counts constitute a strong case of election interference and fraud in the place where Mr. Trump lived and conducted business for decades.

Mr. Bragg will face tough challenges ahead, fueled by lingering skepticism that critics have harbored about the strength of the evidence and whether Mr. Trump has been unfairly targeted.

But we think he can overcome those hurdles and, by seeking to secure a conviction, reinforce the principle that in Manhattan — as across the country — playing by the rules is critical to the integrity of both our businesses and our democracy.

To understand why this case matters, think about a precedent, an earlier episode of an election-related felony and its cover-up. That was the Watergate scandal, which hung over Richard Nixon’s re-election campaign in 1972. Voters did not have the information then to make an informed decision about Mr. Nixon, partly because the criminal investigation and trials of “the plumbers” had not concluded before the election and the majority of the evidence remained concealed. Because the investigation was unresolved, Mr. Nixon’s nefarious conduct worked; he was in the White House when the full revelations came out later, to devastating effect.

The salaciousness of the details in Mr. Trump’s case obscures what it is actually about: making covert payments to avoid losing an election and then further concealing it. Indeed, that is how Mr. Bragg has described the case, that it is “about conspiring to corrupt a presidential election and then lying in New York business records to cover it up.”

It is entirely possible that the alleged election interference might have altered the outcome of the 2016 contest, which was decided by just under 80,000 votes in three states. Coming, as it might have, on the heels of the “Access Hollywood” disgrace, the effort to keep the scandal from voters may have saved Mr. Trump’s political prospects.

The charges against Mr. Trump are also a deterrence against business fraud and a support of legitimate business in Manhattan. They target the essence of Mr. Trump’s identity and reputation, as a businessman, before his entrance into the political arena.

For decades, Mr. Trump lived and ran his businesses in New York City. We now know as a result of multiple New York court proceedings that fraud appeared to have been a regular part of his dealings. The Trump Organization and Allen Weisselberg, its chief financial officer, were both criminally convicted of fraud (before Justice Merchan) in 2022. In the New York attorney general’s civil fraud suit, Justice Arthur Engoron ruled last week that the former president is liable as a result of fraudulently manipulating his net worth and ordered him to pay a staggering $355 million penalty — over $400 million with interest.

Mr. Bragg’s prosecution is the next step in probing — and, however much possible, deterring — this pattern of conduct by Mr. Trump and his display of contempt for the rule of law that every other New York business and Manhattan executive has to follow.

To succeed, Mr. Bragg will need to overcome the first impressions of the case from its critics. In this view, it is nothing more than a years-old, stale case about hush money payments to a porn star on shaky legal ground. But since the indictment in April 2023, the legal foundations of the case have been revealed to be much stronger than the naysayers suggested. A particularly strong endorsement, for example, came from federal Judge Alvin Hellerstein, who rebuffed efforts from Mr. Trump’s lawyers to move the case to federal court.

In his opinion sending the case back to state court, Judge Hellerstein seemed to endorse Mr. Bragg’s theory of the case. He noted that the evidence against Mr. Trump appeared to support Mr. Bragg’s “allegations that the money paid to [Michael] Cohen was reimbursement for a hush money payment.”

For the trial itself, Mr. Bragg has that strong evidence and a favorable jury pool in Manhattan, but he will have to overcome two major challenges in order to prevail: one each for the jury and the judge.

First will be the challenge of how Mr. Bragg and his team present Michael Cohen, Mr. Trump’s former fixer, to the jury. Mr. Trump’s trial team will try to hammer Mr. Cohen as an admitted liar and convicted criminal who pleaded guilty to multiple federal crimes for the alleged election interference in New York. But Mr. Bragg and his own team have deep experience with putting on cooperating witnesses with complex pasts.

Mr. Cohen has not wavered in his account of the hush money payments, their election interference purpose and their cover-up. And perhaps most important, everything Mr. Cohen has said is corroborated by documentary evidence and other witnesses. Even after a tough cross-examination in the New York civil fraud case, Justice Engoron found that “Michael Cohen told the truth.” Prosecutors also have the benefit of learning from Mr. Cohen’s civil testimony and can focus on his consistency, corroboration and acceptance of responsibility.

Second, Mr. Bragg and his team will be confronted with the challenge of working with Justice Merchan to prevent Mr. Trump from acting out in front of the jury and thereby disrupting the case or introducing irrelevant information to try to prejudice the outcome. We all saw the spectacle that Mr. Trump created in the New York State civil fraud trial. But we also saw Mr. Trump reined in by federal Judge Lewis Kaplan in the E. Jean Carroll case, which, unlike the civil fraud one, featured a jury watching every move.

Justice Merchan is cut more from the cloth of Judge Kaplan. He is a widely respected and experienced jurist. Moreover, criminal trial rules and practice give him even more latitude than Judge Kaplan had in the E. Jean Carroll civil matter. With a jury in the box, Justice Merchan is unlikely to tolerate repeated outbursts. We got a taste of that at the hearing last week, when he repeatedly and summarily shut down frivolous objections from Mr. Trump’s counsel.

The seriousness of the prosecution can also be conveyed at sentencing. If Mr. Trump is convicted, Mr. Bragg should seek jail time. Each count of document falsification carries a term of up to four years in prison. Many individuals, including first-time offenders, are sentenced to imprisonment for this crime in New York.

Whether it comes to American business or constitutional democracy, individuals who flamboyantly and persistently flout the rules of a system must be deterred for that system to endure. That principle underlines the gravity of the forthcoming case in Manhattan and the cases elsewhere against Mr. Trump.

Norman Eisen, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, was special counsel to the House Judiciary Committee for the first impeachment and trial of Donald Trump. Joshua Kolb is an attorney who served as a law clerk on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Barbara McQuade is a professor from practice at the University of Michigan Law School, a former U.S. attorney and the author of the forthcoming book “ Attack From Within : How Disinformation Is Sabotaging America.”

10 lines on teachers’ day, short essay on teachers’ day in english, long essay on teachers’ day for kids, what will your child learn from the essay on teachers’ day.

Teachers are the closest people in a child’s life outside their homes. Right from the moment they enter school on their very first day till the day they graduate, teachers play a central role in every child’s educational journey. They are responsible for inspiring students and shaping their futures. Therefore, it’s not surprising that children are very close to their teachers and love and respect them immensely. Children love celebrating Teachers’ Day in school. They show their appreciation, respect, and gratitude towards their teachers through various expressions on this day. Schools organise a grand celebration with various activities where children can participate. Teachers’ Day is thus a common topic assigned to children of lower primary classes for essay writing. Through this essay, students are expected to highlight the importance of teachers and share how they like to celebrate Teachers’ Day.

Teachers’ Day is celebrated in all schools to honour the contribution of teachers to the students’ lives. Children will have a lot of ideas about what to write on this topic. There are a few essential tips to remember when asked to write an essay on teachers. Here are some details that you can include:

  • Mention the date that Teachers’ day falls on.
  • Write why it is celebrated.
  • Write why it is important to celebrate Teachers’ day.
  • Describe the importance of teachers in students’ lives.
  • Write about various activities on Teachers’ day.

Right from the first day of school, a teacher is a child’s mentor in their studies, guardian away from home and a friendly guide for life. Lower primary class students are very excited about Teachers’ Day but are just about learning how to put down their feelings and ideas in words. It will help them to gather their thoughts and write them in simple sentences. Here is a sample essay on Teachers’ Day for class 1 & 2 students in 10 lines:

  • We celebrate Teachers’ Day in India on September 5.
  • It is celebrated to show our respect and gratitude for our teachers.
  • It is celebrated to mark Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishan’s birth anniversary.
  • International Teachers’ Day is celebrated in other parts of the world on October 5.
  • On this day, teachers are off-duty. Senior students come to school dressed up as teachers and take over the classes.
  • Teachers relax and enjoy the activities planned for them by the students.
  • In my school, we also perform skits and other cultural activities to showcase the importance of our teachers.
  • We also have a special assembly conducted by students.
  • We give small gifts to our teachers. I like to make greeting cards for all my favourite teachers to show love and gratitude.
  • Schools across India celebrate Teachers’ day with a lot of enthusiasm and zeal.

After writing an essay in simple lines, students will be expected to weave their ideas into small paragraphs to share their experiences on Teachers’ Day. For this short paragraph, they will have to include more details and facts in their essay, with a small introductory and concluding line.

Here is an example that will give your child some guidance:

From our first day at school all the way through college, teachers are the ones who guide us, educate us, and inspire us. They not only teach us but also make us better humans. Therefore, every year on September 5, we celebrate Teachers’ Day to honour our teachers. It is the most important event on the school calendar.

Teachers’ Day was first celebrated by students and colleagues of the former President of India, Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishan, to honour him on his birthday. Since then, it has been celebrated to honour and respect all teachers upon his humble insistence.

In our school, we have many cultural activities to celebrate this day. Students honour their teachers with flowers and gifts to express their gratitude. It is not just on this day, but every day, that we are grateful to our teachers for educating us and making us good human beings.

Class 3 students are expected to write longer essays and express their views articulately along with essential facts and knowledge. Therefore, students will have to memorise these facts while writing about their experiences creatively. Here is a sample of a long essay on Teachers’ Day essay for class 3 students:

We all know that Teachers’ Day is on September 5 and is celebrated with gusto. However, very few know that while it is celebrated on this day in India, the International Teacher Day is observed worldwide on October 5. Teachers’ Day in India is celebrated to honour Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the second president of India who was an incredible teacher. His students wanted to celebrate Teachers’ Day on his birthday to honour him and show their respect for him. However, Dr Radhakrishnan suggested honouring all teachers instead, and his birthday started being celebrated across the country to commemorate teachers and their importance in shaping students’ lives.

The future of every society and country lies in the hands of the children. And teachers are the ones that nurture, educate, and shape the future of these children who grow up and make a better society and country. They not only impart education but also guide children to become better humans. Therefore, every year Teachers’ day is celebrated in all schools, colleges, and educational institutions with fervour and enthusiasm. It is a day dedicated to teachers who work hard to ensure their students learn well and excel in school and life. Teachers have a powerful impact on students’ lives and minds. Therefore they have always been respected and held in high regard. On Teachers’ Day, students express that regard and gratitude through various activities.

In my school, senior class students dress and act as their favourite teachers for one day. They conduct the assembly, take classes, and organise various activities for teachers. We have speeches and skits that show the importance of teachers in our lives. We also present dances and sing songs dedicated to our teachers. In our school, we also have performances like fancy dress competitions on this day. Teachers get a day off from their responsibilities and enjoy these acts. Boynton teacher accused of crime with student was 'reminded' not to give students rides, gifts

Damian conti was suspended from teaching at south tech academy just hours before he was arrested by palm beach county sheriff's deputies on feb. 6..

teacher essay day

A 35-year-old teacher in Boynton Beach was told by his school's administration not to give students rides in his car or gifts in the weeks leading up to his arrest on charges of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student, school records show.

Damian Conti of Greenacres was suspended from his job at South Tech Academy for misconduct just hours before he was arrested by Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies on Feb. 6.

The first communication from school officials came on Jan. 12 when an assistant principal said that he should not transport students in his personal car. Documents from Conti's personnel file don't specify where he and the students were going or how often he was giving them rides. The documents also don't say whether one of the students was the 16-year-old involved in his arrest.

"I want to remind you that you should not be transporting students in your car. If you are transporting them for a field trip, the appropriate paperwork should be on file and there should always be a minimum of 3 people," assistant principal Erin Kurtz wrote to Conti.

The subject line of Kurtz's email to Conti was "reminder." The school provided no investigations or disciplinary records relating to Conti, and Kurtz did not return a request for comment about whether her emails to Conti constituted discipline of the teacher.

Kurtz again wrote to Conti on Jan. 24 that "giving gifts and spending time with student groups outside of school activities is outside the boundaries of the teacher/student relationship." She said in her email that she was "confident" he would avoid such situations in the future. Again, her email did not describe specific students involved.

Conti was fired by South Tech on Feb. 7, according to a letter in his school file signed by the school's Executive Director Carla Lovett.

More on Conti's arrest: Former South Tech charter teacher faces charges of inappropriate relationship with student

A dearth of details in personnel files from South Tech and redacted police reports make it difficult to determine more about the incidents he was confronted with.

Conti was charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor and three counts of offenses against students by authority figures. He has been assigned a public defender and had not entered a plea to the charges as of Monday afternoon.

Conti did not return a request for comment on his case.

Teacher worked at four schools, one day-care office since graduating from FAU

Conti's records show he's worked in four schools and one private day care center since he graduated in 2014 from Florida Atlantic University with a bachelor's degree in English.

He first taught English at Everglades High School in Broward County during the 2015-16 school year, then worked as a teacher at AMI Kids, a private alternative education center in Fort Lauderdale, during the 2016-17 school year.

After that, he worked as a marketing specialist at The Learning Center day care in Deerfield Beach from 2016 through 2020. Conti worked as a teacher at the SLAM! Palm Beach charter high school from 2020 until he began at South Tech in August 2022.

While their hiring and progressive discipline processes can be similar to that of public schools, charter schools like SLAM! and South Tech are public schools run by private entities.

South Tech charter provided Conti's personnel file in response to a public records request by The Palm Beach Post but did not provide more detailed investigative reports of what led to Kurtz's written reminders to Conti.

Records from the school district show he applied to be a teacher in 2020. It's not clear whether he was offered a job, but Conti's resume shows he went to work at the SLAM! charter school instead of working at a district-run school.

Conti has had no previous discipline from the Florida Department of Education, state records show.

On the day of his arrest, Conti told police that he had been suspended from his job and was having an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old who was his student at the school, his arrest record shows. He said the student expressed concern that Conti would get into trouble because of the relationship.

His arrest records provide few details about his contact with the student except that they communicated via Instagram, text messages and phone calls.

Unlawful sexual activity with certain minors and offenses against students by authority figures are both second-degree felony charges in Florida punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

As of Monday afternoon, Conti remained in jail. His bond has been set at $100,000, according to court records.

South Tech principal retires after 30+ year career in schools

Just three days after Conti's arrest, longtime South Tech Principal Eileen Turenne said on social media that she would be retiring.

On Sunday, the principal posted on X (formerly Twitter) that Friday, Feb. 15, would mark the end of her 11 years with South Tech and 19 previous years with the Palm Beach County School District.

"Now begins #retirement with the love of my life, our daughters, our sons-in-law, our grandson, and the little guy who is due in June," Turenne wrote. "It’s time for the next chapter."

As of Feb. 13, former assistant principal Kurtz was listed as South Tech Academy's interim principal in a school district database of charter schools.

Kurtz and South Tech Lovett did not return requests for comment on Turenne's employment status.

Essay on Teachers’ Day

The teaching-learning tradition has long held a centre stage in India’s lineage of developing knowledge systems. This system was conducive to the holistic personality growth of the student and ensured knowledge became a lived experience for him rather than remaining merely theoretical. The teacher was a worshipped figure then and continues to be a respected figure in today’s times as well.

Since time immemorial India has produced a number of gems who have strengthened India’s place in history and earned the awe of the people from across the globe. Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan is one such addition to the long list of gems. He was born on 5th September in the year 1888. He was a teacher and a philosopher. In his words , “Teachers should be the best minds in the country”. His birthday is celebrated as the Teachers’ Day every year in India to mark his wisdom, knowledge and contribution in the development of the country and its students, the future citizens.

History of Teachers’ Day

In 1962, the students and friends of Dr Radhakrishnan came together and requested to celebrate his birthday. Glad though he was, the great teacher and philosopher wanted this day to be held in greater importance than his birthday only. So he asked the enthusiastic people to celebrate the day as nationwide Teachers’ Day as teachers are, after all, one of the pillars of the society. Everyone agreed upon this proposal and since then, this day is observed as the Teachers’ Day in India.

The Perspective of Radhakrishnan

Dr Radhakrishnan's perspective on education was very different. He believed that the right kind of education as delivered by a teacher can help in eradicating numerous societal problems and superstitious culture that prevails among a significant number of people to date. He wanted a thorough change in the education system as existing in the country by opting for a deeper connection between the teacher and student and changing the way of teaching too. He emphasized on the fact that a teacher and a student must have a good understanding and relationship that should help in imparting and gaining knowledge.

It was his belief that teachers lay the foundation for the future and hold utter responsibility for how good a citizen a student turns out to be. Teachers’ Day is not only a showcase for the acknowledgement towards teachers, but it also implies the recognition of the hard work the teachers put in for the holistic development of the students.

Teacher’s Day Celebration in India

This day is celebrated with utter respect and excitement by the students of all ages. Students look forward to this day with a lot of anticipation. Students showcase their performances and teachers get delighted by them. Often, the students bring gifts to their favourite teachers as a token of appreciation and respect. The day does not only hold importance for students but the teachers also. They are once again reminded of how appreciated they are by the students. No official classes are held on this day in schools, colleges or universities.

Dr. Sarvapali Radhakrishnan was an exceptionally great teacher and philosopher. We must carry forward his torch and fulfil our responsibilities towards our teachers with utter respect and humbleness. Dr. Radhakrishnan breathed his last on 17 th April 1975. But his legend is still alive and every year through the celebration of Teachers’ Day in India, he and his philosophies are remembered time and again.

India has been blessed with a long, unbroken line of teachers and discoverers who have created treasures of knowledge. One such teacher was Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. A remarkable teacher and philosopher, he believed that “Teachers should be the best minds in the country.” In 1962 when his students and friends came up to him wanting to commemorate his birthday.

However, he wished for this day to fulfil a much larger purpose than merely his birthday. Hence he requested all the people to celebrate this day as Teacher’s Day nationally. Since then, September 5th is being celebrated as Teacher’s Day to honour Dr Radhakrishnan’s wisdom and contributions and also pay tribute to the teacher who toils to build the future of this country year after year.

Opinion: We know how voters feel about Trump and Biden. But how do the experts rank their presidencies?

Presidents Day occurs at a crucial moment this year, with the presidency on the cusp of crisis as we inexorably shuffle toward a rematch between the incumbent and his predecessor. It’s the sort of contest we haven’t seen since the 19th century, and judging by public opinion of President Biden and former President Trump, most Americans would have preferred to keep it that way.

But the third installment of our Presidential Greatness Project , a poll of presidential experts released this weekend, shows that scholars don’t share American voters’ roughly equal distaste for both candidates.

Biden, in fact, makes his debut in our rankings at No. 14, putting him in the top third of American presidents. Trump, meanwhile, maintains the position he held six years ago: dead last, trailing such historically calamitous chief executives as James Buchanan and Andrew Johnson. In that and other respects, Trump’s radical departure from political, institutional and legal norms has affected knowledgeable assessments not just of him but also of Biden and several other presidents.

Opinion: Panicking over polls showing Donald Trump ahead of President Biden? Please stop

Like Biden, Obama and Reagan had rough reelection polls. Too many journalists treat polls as predictive, but political professionals use them to inform campaigns.

Jan. 24, 2024

The overall survey results reveal stability as well as change in the way scholars assess our nation’s most important and controversial political office. Great presidents have traditionally been viewed as those who presided over moments of national transformation, led the country through major crises and expanded the institution of the presidency. Military victories, economic growth, assassinations and scandals also affect expert assessments of presidential performance.

The presidents at the top of our rankings, and others like ours, reflect this. Hallowed leaders such as Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and George Washington consistently lead the list.

Our latest rankings also show that the experts’ assessments are driven not only by traditional notions of greatness but also by the evolving values of our time.

Donald Trump speaks at a rally in Las Vegas.

Op-Ed: Worst. President. Ever.

President Trump’s final grade will be in the hands of scholars. It doesn’t look good.

Jan. 13, 2021

One example is the continuing decline in esteem for two important presidents, Andrew Jackson and Woodrow Wilson. Their reputations have consistently suffered in recent years as modern politics lead scholars to assess their early 19th and 20th century presidencies ever more harshly, especially their unacceptable treatment of marginalized people.

More acutely, this survey has seen a pronounced partisan dynamic emerge, arguably in response to the Trump presidency and the Trumpification of presidential politics.

Proponents of the Biden presidency have strong arguments in their arsenal, but his high placement within the top 15 suggests a powerful anti-Trump factor at work. So far, Biden’s record does not include the military victories or institutional expansion that have typically driven higher rankings, and a family scandal such as the one involving his son Hunter normally diminishes a president’s ranking.

Biden’s most important achievements may be that he rescued the presidency from Trump, resumed a more traditional style of presidential leadership and is gearing up to keep the office out of his predecessor’s hands this fall.

Trump’s position at the bottom of our rankings, meanwhile, puts him behind not only Buchanan and Johnson but also such lowlights as Franklin Pierce, Warren Harding and William Henry Harrison, who died a mere 31 days after taking office.

Trump’s impact goes well beyond his own ranking and Biden’s. Every contemporary Democratic president has moved up in the ranks — Barack Obama (No. 7), Bill Clinton (No. 12) and even Jimmy Carter (No. 22).

Yes, these presidents had great accomplishments such as expanding healthcare access and working to end conflict in the Middle East, and they have two Nobel Prizes among them. But given their shortcomings and failures, their rise seems to be less about reassessments of their administrations than it is a bonus for being neither Trump nor a member of his party.

Indeed, every modern Republican president has dropped in the survey, including the transformational Ronald Reagan (No. 16) and George H.W. Bush (No. 19), who led the nation’s last decisive military victory.

Academics do lean left, but that hasn’t changed since our previous surveys. What these results suggest is not just an added emphasis on a president’s political affiliation, but also the emergence of a president’s fealty to political and institutional norms as a criterion for what makes a president “great” to the scholars who study them.

As for the Americans casting a ballot for the next president, they are in the historically rare position of knowing how both candidates have performed in the job. Whether they will consider each president’s commitment to the norms of presidential leadership, and come to rate them as differently as our experts, remains to be seen.

Short Essay on Teachers’ Day in 200 Words

In India, teachers’ day is celebrated every year on the 5th of September to mark the birth anniversary of India’s first vice-president and second president, Dr Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan. Dr S. Radhakrishnan was an Indian philosopher, teacher and statesman who served as India’s first vice-president from 1952 to 1962.

He also held office as the second president of India from 1962 to 1967. During his tenure as the president, one of his students asked for his permission to celebrate his birthday on a national level. Dr Radhakrishnan suggested that instead of celebrating his birthday, he would be happier if the 5th of September could be celebrated as Teachers’ day to pay respect to teachers all over the country.

Since then, teachers’ day has been celebrated every year by students all over the nation, to express their love and gratitude for their dear teachers. If children are the future of a country, teachers are the people who shape the future of the country as they guide the children to become better human beings.

On teachers’ day, students decorate their classrooms, organise games, singing and dance performances for their teachers and give them gifts as tokens of gratitude. It is a fun-filled day for all teachers and students.

Short Essay on Teachers’ Day in 400 Words

Teachers’ day, as the name suggests, is a day to celebrate the teachers in our life and shower them with love and gratitude for all that they have done and still do for us.

During his tenure as the president, one of his students and friends asked for his permission to celebrate his birthday on a national level.

Our parents who taught us how to eat, talk, walk and run, our kindergarten teachers who helped us grasp the first alphabets of our life, our school teachers and college professors as well as our dance, drawing, singing mentors – every single one of them have played a role in shaping our lives and making us better and stronger human beings. All our teachers deserve to be shown respect, love and gratitude. Teachers’ day gives us the opportunity to do the same.

On teachers’ day, students decorate their classrooms, organise games, singing and dance performances for their teachers and give them gifts as tokens of gratitude. They also visit their tuition and coaching centres to celebrate the day with their tutors and mentors.

The students who have already passed out from schools and colleges, make it a point to visit their old teachers and bring them sweets and gifts. In many schools and colleges, senior students dress up as their teachers, take classes for junior students and let the teachers rest and enjoy the day. They also arrange delicious food and treats for the teachers. It is a fun-filled day for all teachers and students.

In this lesson today, I have discussed the topic through three individual sets of essays coving different word limits. Besides, I have adopted a very simplistic approach to writing these essays for a better understanding of all kinds of students. But if you still have any doubts regarding this session, mention that in the comment section below. I will try my best to resolve them as soon as possible. Black History Month 2024: African Americans and the Arts

A woman reads a book

The national theme for Black History Month 2024 is “ African Americans and the Arts .”

Black History Month 2024 is a time to recognize and highlight the achievements of Black artists and creators, and the role they played in U.S. history and in shaping our country today.

To commemorate this year’s theme, we’ve gathered powerful quotes about learning, culture and equality from five historic Black American authors, teachers and artists who made a significant impact in the Arts, education ― and the nation.

  Making history

“Real education means to inspire people to live more abundantly, to learn to begin with life as they find it and make it better.” – Carter G. Woodson, Author, Journalist, Historian and Educator, 1875-1950

Known as the “Father of Black History,” Carter G. Woodson was primarily self-taught in most subjects. In 1912, he became the second Black person to receive a Ph.D. from Harvard.

He is the author of more than 30 books, including “T he Mis-Education of the Negro. ”

Carter G. Woodson dedicated his life to teaching Black History and incorporating the subject of Black History in schools. He co-founded what is now the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, Inc. (ASALH) . In February 1926, Woodson launched the first Negro History Week , which has since been expanded into Black History Month.

Providing a platform

“I have created nothing really beautiful, really lasting, but if I can inspire one of these youngsters to develop the talent.” – Augusta Savage, Sculptor, 1892-1962

An acclaimed and influential sculptor of the Harlem Renaissance, Augusta Savage was a teacher and an activist who fought for African American rights in the Arts. She was one out of only four women, and the only Black woman, commissioned for the 1939 New York World’s Fair. She exhibited one of her most famous works, “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” which she named after the hymn by James Weldon Johnson, sometimes referred to as the Black National Anthem. Her sculpture is also known as “ The Harp, ” renamed by the fair’s organizers.

Raising a voice

“My mother said to me ‘My child listen, whatever you do in this world no matter how good it is you will never be able to please everybody. But what one should strive for is to do the very best humanly possible.’” – Marian Anderson, American Contralto, 1897-1993

Marian Anderson broke barriers in the opera world. In 1939, she performed at the Lincoln Memorial in front of a crowd of 75,000 after the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) denied her access to the DAR Constitution Hall because of her race. And in 1955, Marian Anderson became the first African American to perform at the Metropolitan Opera. She sang the leading role as Ulrica in Verdi’s Un Ballo in Maschera.

Influencing the world

“The artist’s role is to challenge convention, to push boundaries, and to open new doors of perception.” – Henry Ossawa Tanner, Painter, 1859-1937

Henry Ossawa Tanner is known to be the first Black artist to gain world-wide fame and acclaim. In 1877, he enrolled at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts , where he was the only Black student. In 1891, Tanner moved to Paris to escape the racism he was confronted with in America. Here, he painted two of his most recognized works, “ The Banjo Lesson” and “ The Thankful Poor of 1894. ”

In 1923, Henry O. Tanner was awarded the Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the French government, France’s highest honor.

Rising up

“Wisdom is higher than a fool can reach.” – Phillis Wheatley, Poet, 1753-1784

At about seven years old, Phillis Wheatley was kidnapped from her home in West Africa and sold into slavery in Boston. She started writing poetry around the age of 12 and published her first poem, “ Messrs. Hussey and Coffin ,” in Rhode Island’s Newport Mercury newspaper in 1767.

While her poetry spread in popularity ― so did the skepticism. Some did not believe an enslaved woman could have authored the poems. She defended her work to a panel of town leaders and became the first African American woman to publish a book of poetry. The panel’s attestation was included in the preface of her book.

Phillis Wheatley corresponded with many artists, writers and activists, including a well-known 1 774 letter to Reverand Samson Occom about freedom and equality.

Honoring Black History Month 2024

Art plays a powerful role in helping us learn and evolve. Not only does it introduce us to a world of diverse experiences, but it helps us form stronger connections. These are just a few of the many Black creators who shaped U.S. history ― whose expressions opened many doors and minds.

Black History Month is observed each year in February. To continue your learning, go on a journey with Dr. Jewrell Rivers, as he guides you through Black History in higher education. Read his article, “A Brief History: Black Americans in Higher Education.”

Thanks for contacting us. We've received your submission.

A Syracuse mom burst into her daughter’s classroom and repeatedly punched her teacher in the face, breaking several bones as at least 25 horrified children looked on, according to police.

“These are injuries you don’t often see in a boxing match,” Onondaga District Attorney Bill Fitzpatrick said at a Tuesday press conference about the incident.

Lynzina Sutton, 31, arrived at Lincoln Middle School Friday with her mother, Roxanne Thompkins, and both women attempted to make their way past security.

The day prior, Sutton’s daughter told her teacher, “My mom will handle this” after she was disciplined for allegedly lying about her whereabouts during the school day.

The fearful staffer filed an official complaint with the school that afternoon.

While Thompkins was prevented from entering the next morning, the 4 foot 10 inch Sutton had her hood pulled over her head and was able to blend in with other kids, according to Localsyr.com.

Sutton then headed to her daughter’s classroom and proceeded to repeatedly punch the female teacher in the face as traumatized students looked on.

The victim, described as a “dedicated” veteran educator, suffered a concussion and several broken bones in her face, officials said.

“She’s going to have some long-term issues,” Fitzpatrick said. “I know her nasal passages were severely affected by this.”

Sutton managed to leave the school after the beating but was later arrested and charged with burglary and assault.

The shocking incident spurred Syracuse City School District’s Superintendent Anthony Davis, Fitzpatrick, and Syracuse Police Chief Joe Cecile to hold a joint press conference Tuesday.

“When people are dedicating their lives to educating our students they shouldn’t have to worry about this,” Davis said.

Thompkins, Sutton’s mother, said they were angry with the school because Sutton’s daughter was a victim of repeated bullying that went unaddressed.

“She’s been slapped, she’s been kicked, they’ve broken her glasses three times, they’ve broken cellphones twice, and all we get [from the school] is, ‘Well what is she doing?’ They made her out to be the problem,” Thompkins told CNYCentral.

Thompkins said she felt bad for the injured teacher.

“That was never supposed to be that way,” she told the outlet. “I apologize for that, and I hope she recovers. There’s always a better way to handle stuff and we were going to talk at the school to have a conversation, with the school, like we have numerous times.”

The Onondaga DA’s office told The Post Wednesday that Sutton was released on bond and will appear in court at a later date.

The teacher has been released from the hospital and is recovering.

Long Essay on Teachers Day 8 (1300 Words)

Teacher’s Day in India is a very important annual event to applaud and recognize our teachers for their exceptional and extraordinary work. The Teacher’s Day is also a good medium for students to express their love and respect for their teachers. It is celebrated on 5 th September every year with great enthusiasm by the students across the whole nation. Teacher’s Day falling on 5 th September of every year is actually the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who served as the first vice-President and second President of India and also was a distinguished scholar and excellent teacher. We celebrate this day just to remember him and pay him tribute for his great acts and achievements.

Teachers Day is not about only those teachers who have taught us in Schools, Colleges or any other Institution but it is also about all those people who have ever taught us something valuable.

Why do We Celebrate Teacher’s Day?

As it is clear from its name, Teacher’s Day is a day of Teachers. According to Hindu Scripts, ‘Brahma’ is the creator of the Universe. In the same way, a teacher is the creator of the future of the Nation. A teacher is a person who never leaves teaching and keeps educating the youngsters throughout his/her life. S/He performs his/her duty with full honesty and dedication just to make his/her pupils successful and the success of his/her pupils is the actual success of the teacher.

For a good teacher, teaching is not just a profession, a service or a job but s/he regards education as a pillar of the Nation. We can never get over their beneficences so we celebrate the Teacher’s Day just to pay them respect and make them understand how valuable they are for us.

Origin of Teacher’s Day

Teacher’s Day which is celebrated across the country to mark the contribution of the Teachers and tribute to them is actually the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was born on 5 th September 1888. He was an Indian Philosopher and Statesman who also served as India’s 1 st Vice-President and 2 nd President. He was honoured with several awards including Bharat Ratna in 1954, Knighthood in 1931, and Order of Merit in 1963.

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan had also served as a teacher and professor during his early career. He was loved and highly respected by his pupils. He was elected the 2nd President of India on 14 th May 1962. While serving as the President in 1962, some of his friends and Students requested him to celebrate his Birthday every year as “Radhakrishnan Day”, as they wanted to pay him tribute every year for his service and achievements. Dr. Radhakrishnan denied celebrating 5 th September as his birthday, instead he requested them to celebrate 5 th September as Teacher’s Day saying “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers’ Day”.

Since then the birth anniversary of Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan is being celebrated as the Teacher’s Day. Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan wanted the students of India to understand the importance of their Teachers and always pay them respect that is why his birthday is celebrated as the Teacher’s Day every year.

Teacher’s Day Celebration

On 5 th September, Teacher’s Day is celebrated all across the Nation with great enthusiasm and respect for the teaching community. The most of the excitement can be seen among the students of pre college schools. They eagerly wait for the day to celebrate and tribute their teachers.

Various kinds of social and cultural events and especially acts based on teachers are organised in Schools and Colleges on this day. The preparation starts few days before the Teachers Day. The students prepare speeches and poems dedicated to their teachers and perform them on the stage. They also prepare some beautiful gifts, greeting cards and flowers for their teachers.

Also many quizzes, essay competitions and other such events are organised by authorities. The celebration usually starts with cutting of cake by the teachers. It is not necessarily done in every institution but most of the institutions, Schools and Collages do so. Students also bring presents for their favourite teachers. Teachers accept the gift and respect of their students and fill them with their love and blessings. Students also decorate their School and Classroom beautifully to surprise their Teachers. The excitement for teacher’s day and the love and respect for their teachers can clearly be seen in the eyes of every student.

Importance of Teacher’s Day

Importance of Teacher’s Day in our life depends completely upon the importance of Teachers in our life.

If you are a student then you know very well what a teacher is. A teacher teaches us, guides us, amends our mistakes, scolds us when necessary and also punishes us too, but deep in our heart we all know that he is trying to make us civilized and successful by policing and improving our positive sides. To pay them high respect and follow their every direction should be our utmost aim at this age forgetting all other things. Celebrate the Teacher’s Day to pay respect to your teachers.

If you are a successful person, either employed or a businessman, then undoubtedly you understand very well the importance of a teacher and his contribution in your successful life. All that you have achieved till date and also what you will achieve in future is just because of the knowledge given to you by your teachers. The Teacher’s Day is very important for you and it brings you the chance to thank your teacher and show your love to them.

Relation between an Ideal Teacher and Student

The bonding between a teacher and his pupils is a very important and sacred part of Indian Culture. Our history is the proof of it. A student is like a bud of flower which has not bloomed yet and the Teacher is the gardener. S/He nourishes it, cares for it, and helps it in growing and smelling the entire Garden.

A good teacher is always dedicated towards developing his/her students. S/He works on making him/her able to fight and survive in the fast moving world. It does not matter if s/he lives in a hut or a small room but s/he becomes much happier to see the success of his/her students.

A student must understand the purpose of teacher and s/he can pay him/her teachers respect only by applying their teachings in life and making them feel proud. Instead of being rich and successful being a good citizen and responsible person obliges the teachers most.

A good bond between a teacher and a student has always led to success and fame. Gopal Krishna Gokhale was the political Guru of Mahatma Gandhi who asked Gandhi ji to return from South Africa and serve his Nation. It was Chanakya who guided Chandragupta Maurya to fight against Nanda Dynasty with the help of which Chandragupta Maurya established Maurya Dynasty.

Thus a good relation between a teacher and his student always has the power to change the history of the world.

So we have come to know that the Teacher’s Day is a very important day in the life of every person because every individual of the nation whether, young or old, has been a student some day. We must celebrate this day with zeal and respect to express our gratitude towards our teachers. It is not necessary to give them heavy and costly gifts but just a sense of utmost respect is enough to make them happy. A student and teacher’s relation is the most important thing in our nation that needs to be maintained for a long time to make the nation leader of the world.

New York City schools went online instead of calling a snow day. It didn’t go well

New York City’s plan to have students go remote instead of a snow day didn’t go quite as planned. Many students, teachers and administrators were unable to log in to their accounts. City officials blamed on a technology contractor. (Feb. 13) (AP Video: Joseph B. Frederick)

NEW YORK (AP) — When New York City officials got wind of the major winter storm headed their way, they rewound the clock four years, reopened their coronavirus pandemic playbook, and announced that instead of canceling school, teachers and students would once again meet online. No snow day.

Mayor Eric Adams said it was important to give children enrolled in the nation’s largest school system stability considering the massive upheaval to education the pandemic had caused throughout the country. Some school districts in other states have done the same since adopting the technology essential in 2020 to make virtual school days possible.

Unfortunately for Adams, the plan didn’t go so well: Many students, teachers and administrators were unable to log in to their accounts — a problem that city officials blamed on a technology contractor.

Naveed Hasan, a Manhattan resident, said he struggled to get his 4-year-old daughter logged on because of the district’s technical issues even though his 9-year-old son was able to gain access. He hoped to take both out for sledding later in the day.

“It honestly worked out for the best,” Hasan said. “I’d rather not have the youngest on a device all day anyways.”

Schools nationwide shuttered classrooms for the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, and some did not reopen fully for more than a year. Some children barely logged on , and many struggled with the social isolation.

The months spent with online education were marked by widespread learning losses . Young students often struggled with the technology, and some parents said online learning was a factor in their decision to delay enrolling their kids .

In a November 2020 survey conducted by the EdWeek Research Center, 39% of district leaders said they had converted snow days to remote learning. Another 32% said they would consider the change. But in recent years, some districts, including Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia, have reverted to prepandemic snow day policies. School systems in Boston and Hartford, Connecticut, among many others, closed in response to Tuesday’s storm.

Connecticut does not allow remote learning on a snow day to count toward the minimum 180 learning days in the school calendar. The state weighed factors such as the challenges of setting up remote classrooms on short notice, and local officials also reported that parents and students wanted traditional snow days, said Irene Parizi, chief academic officer for the state Department of Education.

“Let them have their snow day and go sledding and have their hot chocolate and things like that,” Parizi said.

With schools closed in Columbia, Connecticut, Susan Smith spent the day at home with her three children, ages 14, 11 and 8. She said she likes traditional snow days, but would also like to see remote learning on some bad weather days.

“I still remember being a kid and really looking forward to snow days, so I don’t want to completely wipe that off the map with remote learning,” Smith said.

Adams defended the decision to have NYC schools operate virtually.

“Using this as a teaching moment to have our children learn how to continue the expansion of remote learning is so important,” the mayor said in an interview on WPIX-TV Monday evening. “We fell back in education because of COVID. We cannot afford our young people to miss school days.”

Gina Cirrito, a parent on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, said she appreciated the structure the remote classes provided for her three sons, even if Tuesday morning was a bit of rough sledding in her household.

“I know people around the country get really frustrated with the idea of these remote days and not just letting the kids have a day,” she said. “But I don’t think the teachers are asking above and beyond and to be honest, they’re so far behind. If there’s a way to keep their (students’) brains a little engaged, I’m all for it.”

Cirrito said the family had to work through some early morning logistics, including making sure everyone had a functioning computer and a quiet spot in the apartment to work — only to run into the district’s login issues.

By about 9:15 a.m. her sons — ages 10, 13 and 17 — had settled into the day’s routine.

“For the kids, it’s like riding a bike. Like, ‘Here we go again,’” Cirrito said.

New York City officials did not say how many students were prevented from accessing online classes but they blamed the problem on their technology contractor, IBM. While both teachers and students recently participated in simulations to prepare for remote instruction, IBM was not involved in those walk-throughs, officials said at a news conference.

“IBM was not ready for prime time. That’s what happened here,” said New York City Schools Chancellor David Banks.

In a statement, IBM said it had been “working closely with New York City schools to address this situation as quickly as possible.”

“The issues have been largely resolved, and we regret the inconvenience to students and parents across the city,” the statement read.

The morning technical glitches only added to the stress for teachers already scrambling to pivot lessons and assignments to remote work, said Michael Mulgrew, president of the United Federation of Teachers, which represents roughly 200,000 NYC public schools teachers and staff.

But Mulgrew said educators anticipated trouble after their experience with distance learning during the pandemic. He noted that by 12:30 p.m., 900,000 students and teachers were utilizing the district’s remote learning system — a testament, he said, to how teachers were able to keep their classes engaged despite the morning challenges.

“It’s also a good lesson for students,” he said. “This is what happens when things go wrong. You don’t get frustrated or angry. You got to figure it out.”

Mulgrew added that this year’s school calendar only allows for one or so snow days, “so you want to save that, just in case.”

Still, Hasan, a software developer, wondered whether students and teachers alike would have been better served with a snow day, even as he acknowledged Tuesday’s accumulations in the city might not have warranted it in a bygone era.

“It’s like a mental health day for kids to just go and play,” he said. “It’s already enough of a challenge for parents to figure out how they are going to do their work.”
